I received an Optiplex gx620 last year. I upgraded it to a Pentium D 945, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8300, 500GB HDD, and Windows 10 x64. Works pretty well overall.
If you go into the bios and turn on the hard drive it will work. Go to drives, drive 1 sata 1 press enter and turn it on it will detect it after you restart it. I have the optiplex 755 with a second drive. It took me forever to get it to work.
im pretty sure that if you have mismatched memory sizes in dual channel (ex: 0.5gb and 1gb sticks) then it will run in dual channel but will only run the first 0.5gb of that 1gb stick in dual channel 2 MEGABYTES OF CACHE DOOOOL CHANNUL THIS LAPTOP KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER
If you can, go for a PCI or PCI-e wireless device, you can pick them up dirt cheap off ebay, but if not, the USB ones aren't too shabby, I got 30MBPS off a USB Wifi adapter so I'd say if you can't go PCI, then USB works well enough for basic surfing!
I'm thinking about throwing in a 500 gig drive.. Il probably need a decent video card too... My question is, where do you get all of those windows 7 discs??
ThePirateBay....you can get the disc image file there. Be sure to get a clean one and find your own key/loader, because you can get a virus from some of the included "activators."
My high school had these GX620's but the school district e wasted them when they could of upgraded them to 4GB and run Windows 10 just fine and use them as student computers. I even convinced them and they didn't care. Their IT department is lazy, refused to upgrade the existing ones and only wanted to replace them with newer ones:(
I just bought one of these from Ebay, 3.4Ghz Pentium D 950, 4GB of RAM and a 1TB hdd with Windows 7 Home Premium with a bunch of bloatware, the ad said fast but it ran like crap until I put 7 Ultimate on it, getting rid of the bloatware infested OS did wonders.
Hey man.. I was wondering how much RAM windows 7 takes up or requires. I know windows XP requires 128mb of RAM. please reply when you have the chance. Thanks for the åwšømė videos! Keep it up!
On each SATA port in the bios there was an option to turn it off and on and I think all apart from one, the SATA port's were off, so that's why the SATA Hard Drive wasn't detected, the port for it was turned off.
Great machine I have a few of the GX series from early P4 to Pentium D. Every one of them with a little ram and a video card upgrade run Windows 7 like a dream. I also just noticed you have the same monitor i'm using right now lol
I still havent gotten around to painting the side panels on my tower yet, I have the 256mb X600 but had to get an adapter cause it had DMS-59 only, I had my P4 3.4HT running at 5ghz in the general tab. Hopefully i'll go back to the surplus sale this week and see if they have newer Optiplex systems or something with newer than the P4 processor.
I sold this computer a while back, found myself never using it. I guess I like to buy computers to fix them up and then sell them again. Ah well, I made a $40 profit on this computer. Thanks!
Yeah...I think I'll buy the copper "performance" heatsink anyway, because this thing could use it. Even though it doesn't get to 60C (If it did, I'd burn myself)
i think with the appropriate bios update you can put a Pentium D 3.6 GHz processor i'm using a Pentium D 930 with a nvidia geforce 8600gt 512mb from evga
You had got the big tower version like me. I got the Pentium D with 4GB RAM and 160GB Hard drive. I'm soon going to get the Dell Latitude E6400 hopefully. It costs £200. Judging from your accent, you must be from the USA. I guess £200 in $USD would be like $350 or so
Yes, they can. That's what I was running it on in this video, if you didn't notice :P But, that would be highly illegal I'd say. Don't fuck with the school computers; it can get you in trouble.
Well, you can play games on it, just not graphics intensive games. You could get a better GPU or CPU alongside with some more ram, and it would run pretty decent on higher demanding games, but I don't think you'll be able to play crisis on this anytime soon. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. *PS: This computer (with some added ram) meets the minimum requirements to play minecraft
where can you find parts to upgrade this desktop because im thinking about getting this and making it faster....also can you make a video of your playing games on this computer
i have a gx620 with a pentuim 4 3.0ghz (presscott 2m), 2.5gigs of ram, on board video, 2x 80gig hard drives, 2 optical drives one a dvd rom and the other is a regular cd rom, and i have windows 7 ultimate 32bit running on it just fine:)
They are not GX, but OptiPlex. Also, you say 'You Know' too mich. My office has a bunch of OptiPlex 745/755 which we upgraded to Windows 7. We also have some new OptiPlex 7010.
I have an optiplex gx620 with pentium 4 HT 3.00 ghz 64bit,and 1 gb ram.. The cpu has 775 socket.I can upgrade it to pentium d or celeron etc.and use it without thermal problems?
correct, I ran 7 64 on my old laptop with 1.25gb ram, it ran well, even better after i made some tweaks to the graphics effects and services, ran aero beautifully only after lazy amd programmers made drivers for it 2 years later. Bought another laptop with similar specs about a year ago with 512mb, i did some major tweaking, aero worked and it ran well, but web browsing was a b**** and games took forever to load. On top of that I sold it for exactly what i put into it :/
Can u use this pc for gaming. Like mimecraft, fraps and running elgato hd60? Or is it too old and shouldnt waist money on it? Please let me know its on amazon for a good price.
just saying on amazon you can buy this desktop with a monitor speaker mouse and key board for 160 dollars just butting that out there and is this good for movies minecraft and skype
I love your tech space, very neat freak organized!
+wyzemann Lol this is like super out of date, my setup is totally different now.
Ok, I'm still new to your channel; but I'll surely catch up.
Heh, no problem
+Dell0304 do you think this could be used for gaming on decent settings
No.

Ohh, that's a good idea. The scratch or whatever is on there is solid though...I couldn't even scrape it off with my nail.
i love the design of the mid 2000s pro dell towers

Yes, I have my main machine which is a custom built.
Honestly I haven't used this computer for anything since I got it.

3.0, because of the integrated graphics. Should go up when I get that adapter so I can use the X600.
Oh....well derp. I should put it back in and see if I can get it to work.
My high school had these GX620's but the school district e wasted them when they could of upgraded them to 4GB and run Windows 10 just fine and use them as student computers. I would have taken them out of the dumpster :D
I love Around the World! Glad thing you played it, reminded me to listen to it one more time ;)
A dell unboxing bed? Ought to get one,
Uh....all of them...it's standard ATX. I had a 550W in here for a little while before I sold it.
I'd recommend that you have AT LEAST 1GB of RAM for Windows 7 on any computer.
i just got this pc yesterday, i only need a better graphics card and i would be set.
hey, aren't you that guy from the comment section on vwestlife's Windows Vista review?
Ryan nj
I recently got a Dell Optiplex 745 with 4 gb of ram and a 160 GB Hard Drive and it runs awesome
been waiting for this video for weeks, great job. awesome video. nice pc.
Lucky....one more day to go for me!
If you can get the Hard Drive working, if you can, and if it's worthwhile, try a raid array, between the 80GB and the 40GB.
That's way nicer then the slim one you had.
Really? You can? If so, that would be cool, Manley!
Yeah I Googled it and there are no temp ICs in the GX620. Kinda stupid, but oh well.
If you can, go for a PCI adapter. If not, USB works well enough.
You should set the HDD Acoustic Mode to Performance so your hdd will be faster, but a little louder.
My school has those, Im quite surprised it updated from Windows 2000 Professional to XP, to Vista, to Windows 7, and finally, Windows 10.
Hey, for the record, those old dell's wont automatically detect your drives. You need to go to Sata 1. hit Enter and it will enable the drive.
I got dvi-vga adapters with all the video cards I've ever bought. I'm surprised your 550Ti didn't have one
If everything was delivered the next day I'd be so happy...
lol and you sound very old now rather than in this video
@@ProdbyNKA That is indeed how time works

OMG I HAVE THAT PC, I STILL USE IT
533 is correct, it's DDR means double data rate. 2*533 is 1066, your ram is running at 1066MHz which I'd guess is the correct operating speed.
mbplove Nah, this computer is too old for 1066MHz. It's 533.
i miss my old Inspiron 1150.. but a HP guy must own a HP
Hey man.. I was wondering how much RAM windows 7 takes up or requires. I know windows XP requires 128mb of RAM. please reply when you have the chance. Thanks for the åwšømė videos! Keep it up!
Why don't you use the 17" Dell monitor with the GX620 and use the Acer one as a second monitor with your main desktop?
It did come with one...but I'm using it.
On each SATA port in the bios there was an option to turn it off and on and I think all apart from one, the SATA port's were off, so that's why the SATA Hard Drive wasn't detected, the port for it was turned off.
That's actually a lot for an E6400 (I got mine for $200 (£130), but as long as it has decent specs then I guess it's okay.
3-Day shipping is great? in my country people start to cry when it doesn't get delivered at the usual next day.
Depends on the motherboard.
Upgrade your power supply and you can get pretty much any single slot card.
Hmm....that's actually a good idea.
Great machine I have a few of the GX series from early P4 to Pentium D. Every one of them with a little ram and a video card upgrade run Windows 7 like a dream. I also just noticed you have the same monitor i'm using right now lol
No. The OptiPlex 745 was the first to offer and support Core 2 Duos.
I still havent gotten around to painting the side panels on my tower yet, I have the 256mb X600 but had to get an adapter cause it had DMS-59 only, I had my P4 3.4HT running at 5ghz in the general tab. What kind of wireless adapter did you use to connect to your wifi, or what would you recommend?
I sold this computer a while back, found myself never using it.
I guess I like to buy computers to fix them up and then sell them again. Ah well, I made a $40 profit on this computer.
Thanks!
Anytime, your videos inspired me to buy various crap like a IBM Thinkpad T60, Logitech MX110 Mouse, Latitude D630 etc.
IM GONNA HAVE A NOSTALGIAGASM
Thanks man!
I just ordered one of these things 2 days ago!!! lol
And the one I ordered has the exact same specs: 1 GB of ram and Pentium 4 HT
I mentioned that in the video....strangely it still comes up as 3.5 usable, apparently due to 512MB being "system reserved."
All you needed to do to get it to detect that second drive was to turn on that SATA port
Jackie boy, you can trust me.
I'm getting one tomarrow
I had to take apart and rebuild this for my computer engineering class

Where did you get your windows 7? And is windows 8 helping any of the computers speed ?
Because I tried that, and it looks weird to me.
Yes, they can. That's what I was running it on in this video, if you didn't notice :P
But, that would be highly illegal I'd say. Don't fuck with the school computers; it can get you in trouble.
Yeah, I can't say I have ever owned a Dell with a proprietary Dell PSU (except SFFs of course)
Did i get this from amazon and does it come with power cable and did u install windows 7 with a bootleg copy?
the pentium D 820 has 2mb l2 cache and 800mhz fsb i think the P D 950 has 4 mb l2 cache but im not sure if you know can you tell me ? nice vid :)
32 bit only supports up to ~3.5GB RAM....
For what it is worth I run Fedora Linux on a Dell Dimension and it runs flawlessly.
Well, you can play games on it, just not graphics intensive games. You could get a better GPU or CPU alongside with some more ram, and it would run pretty decent on higher demanding games, but I don't think you'll be able to play crisis on this anytime soon. What did you except from a business series PC?
still good enough for any gpu that doesnt need 6/8pin power (up to like a radeon hd 7750 or gtx 650)
I just ordered this same PC Model refurbished from newegg for 60 bucks, going to put a Lubuntu on it...Windows would just weight it down.
We got another Dell OptiPlex GX620!
lol yeah I haven't shown my face in a video since like....Late 2011.
i have a gx620 with a pentuim 4 3.0ghz (presscott 2m), 2.5gigs of ram, on board video, 2x 80gig hard drives, 2 optical drives one a dvd rom and the other is a regular cd rom, and i have windows 7 ultimate 32bit running on it just fine:)
Ok ok...
Do you burn them from like a download or, from..... Still confused.
They are not GX, but OptiPlex. Also, you say 'You Know' too mich. My office has a bunch of OptiPlex 745/755 which we upgraded to Windows 7. We also have some new OptiPlex 7010.
Hmm....that's interesting.
and YES
Ryan Gehret what type of acer monitor was that?
If you upgrade the video card a little to something slightly better, then yes, certainly.
this pc is the best damn pc for the price all u need is a video card and bam u have a gaming pc
Dayuuuuum why not return it? It's knackered! :O
I have the same type but its the slim one(desk top) will a intel core 2 duo work in it?
I have an optiplex gx620 with pentium 4 HT 3.00 ghz 64bit,and 1 gb ram..
The cpu has 775 socket.I can upgrade it to pentium d or celeron etc.and use it without thermal problems?
That only applies to the 130W Pentium D's. Mine is 95W, so I'm fine.
correct, I ran 7 64 on my old laptop with 1.25gb ram, it ran well, even better after i made some tweaks to the graphics effects and services, ran aero beautifully only after lazy amd programmers made drivers for it 2 years later. I used the Dell GX520 with the Acer AL2016W.
Where did you get the pentium d? Did you get it used?
Can u use this pc for gaming. Like mimecraft, fraps and running elgato hd60? Or is it too old and shouldnt waist money on it? Please let me know its on amazon for a good price.
yes. just put an intel core 2 duo 2.4 GHZ or faster, 4 GB of RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 5450 or better in it.
I know because I own a dell Optiplex 745.
i have Windows 7 32 bit, will my computer recognize it if i upgraded to 4GB ram? it came with Windows 8 64 bit from the factory
Get sand paper and matching paint for that scratch.
just saying on amazon you can buy this desktop with a monitor speaker mouse and key board for 160 dollars just butting that out there and is this good for movies minecraft and skype
BTW, did yours recognize all the RAM you stuck in it? Mine doesn't even with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, only 3.5 out of 4GB.
+Steve W I believe it is a limitation of the chipset as I think mine only saw 3.5GB as well.
It is, I've just wondered if anyone has ever got it to recognize all of it.
will a Intel Pentium D 925 work on a dell optiplex 760 DT? also is it any more powerful then the core 2 duo that comes with it
RedYT core 2 duo is stronger by a long shot, don't downgrade although I'm probably a bit late
You make some good quality videos..
ok
I reaaally wanted to know.
why did you brought another one?
how old r u and how many computers do u have?...just curious
Will the same penium d work with the slim model of the GX620?
