basically I got so worked up over how stupid the end of the book is that I forgot to explain a few things lol
Jeremy is actually the one who drove Verity into the tree and then HE wrote the last two lines of the memoir
The reason verity faked being in a coma was so that she could kidnap crew and escape Jeremy?
I’ve heard whisperings of some bonus chapters 👀 I may or may not be checking them out

hum, so 🤓☝️ psychologically speaking, children do not have the capacity to be assholes because childhood is the time for personality formation and they understand and see things differently than teenagers, for example. they may behave naughty, but this is not definitive for the type of person they will become in the future. they have the ability to think they are smarter, but they don't have the ability to understand the whole picture because they are in the process of learning how the world works (sorry for my bad english)

I am so frustrated that the twist to the twist wasn't that Jeremy wrote the memoir and was just an insane murderer looking for a way to kill his wife who he had been terrorizing after killing his daughters. So then when she found the letter it would have explained everything about Jeremy being an insane murderer. That would have been so much more satisfying.

I will never grow tired of Hoover books. They are all so unintentionally unhinged it's crazy. The bonus chapter makes the whole story even worse. Jeremy DROWNS a woman in the ocean because he is paranoid she will find out he killed his wife. Also Hoover said in an interview that the letter from Verity is fake and she is actually this evil person from the manuscript. We are supposed to root for Jeremy because he killed his comically evil wife. It's so bad it's funny.

Just don't get the Kia Soul ... there are real idiot car thieves out there that think that *all* Kia Souls can be stolen as easily as in that stupid TikTok awhile back. Last year, my youngest son was victimized *twice* ... neither time were the thieves able to take his car (it has the immobilizer that was missing in the years that were so easily stolen before the recall). But they tore the crap out of the inside, broke a window and glass is *still* falling out of the door every time it gets opened/shut. Outside what insurance covered, between the two events, he was out of pocket $1200 *and* to add to the insult, his insurance went up $30/month.

I hope that letter at the end was her trying to do a fast one to get the MC in trouble instead of it being the truth....and then the horror would always be MC wondering if it was true or not.
I want a sequel but it needs to be more ridiculous. Like the baby says "Redrum" and recites the letter while it's head spins in circles. It could be fun.
If your horror is so ridiculous it becomes funny, lean into that. Grimdark is kinda funny because of how silly it gets.

man if you're gunna make a last chapter epilogue gotcha at least pin it all on jeremy to keep up the theme of scary things happening to your protag. the strongest impression I got from this book is that she blew up what little this family had left because she had a crush on the dad.

7:19 at the risk of sounding like a monster, I gotta say this. I have a child. She is 6, almost 7. The fantastic thing about children is their innate ability to be vicious little assholes. They are SO fucking mean and brutal because they are honest, wonderful little people. My daughter is an asshole because she feels safe to tell the truth, even if it hurts my feelings. She will look me in the face and say “you looked prettier when you had bangs” or “your hamburgers don’t taste as good as when dad makes them” AND IT HURTS SO BAD. LIKE DAMN BRO.
kids won’t lie to protect your feelings. They’re incredible. They’re jerks and I love them.

SO if it helps? IG? fans of this book are divided into "team letter" and "team manuscript" - aka which one was real and which was fake. apparently colleen has said that the letter at the end of the book was a lie/trying to trick Lowen and the audience ? in at least one interview i saw she describes verity as "pure evil".

Because her husband wanted to kill her.
I haven’t read it, but another RUclipsr reviewed this book and Jeremy is the villain. He already had read the manuscript, knew it wasn’t true but wanted out of the marriage. He liked how the Mc wrote her female characters and the sex scenes. He also kills another woman at the end, on a beach with the mc. Mc is doubting herself now because he’s just murdered this woman for no real reason and made her complicit.
Idk if that’s true or not. Guess I’ll download this book & suffer myself to find out lol

I don't know if I hallucinated this but was there a deleted scene or something cause I swear to god it was insinuated the husband knew the biography was fake (his "quick reading" cause he'd already known it) and he was the one that caused her car to crash??? Verity was like, scared he was gonna kill her which was why she stayed in the "coma"???

    • @RenaDeles
      @RenaDeles 28 дней назад +1

Yes, there's a bonus epilogue (that honestly is its own novella with the length), that leans very hard on the answer that whoops the husband IS the bad guy. He kills another person in it too.
