    • @b3nnyrabb1t
      @b3nnyrabb1t Год назад +489

Ana is a very In-Character fanfiction portrayal of Bella Swan, while Christian is so upsettingly out of character for Edward that it makes me want to eat my own face. We all read and saw how he fucked her the one (1) time (only after they married, as that was his condition), and refused to do so again because she had bruises, so Edward would very much NOT be into BDSM in any way shape or form. Edward would also not hear that Bella was a virgin and immediately go "I'm going to fix that". If I was to read Master of the Universe as a Twilight fan reading a Twilight fanfiction, I would DNF it because Edward is so upsettingly out of character.
The controlling, possessive, abusive parts of Christian are pretty in-character for Edward, but everything sexual that happens in these novels is so out of character for Bella and Edward.
Bella was ready to die by dick in the source material and Edward was going to literally off himself for a couple of bruises.
If someone were to rewrite Fifty Shades of Grey with Ana as the sexually driven one, THAT would be more in character.
Sex-wise, the characters should be reversed, but otherwise, their personalities are on-point.

During the part where he's buying rope and shit he buys zip ties for assumedly kink reasons but that's like INCREDIBLY dangerous, because zip ties can and will cut off circulation to whatever part its tied to. Zip ties in corsetry are covered by fabric and anchored, and also have hooks/eyes and laces that can can be manually loosened at any time. In kink, if you use zip ties as wrist restraints for example, the way zip ties work is that they can tighten but cannot loosen again. So if the dom pulls the end of the tie or the sub shifts their weight enough, the tie could get painfully and dangerously tight without an easy way to release without cutting the tie. And when cutting them free you can easily cut or hurt the sub in the process of wiggling a cutting implement under the too-tight zip tie.

If you go to change your birth control and you’re sexually active they will ask if you’re pregnant and usually give you a test. Reading 50 shades as an aroace woman feels like studying straight people under a microscope. Like do they actually think this kind of behavior towards women is attractive somehow, or is do they enjoy it in the same way people enjoy horror movies? I also think it's interesting how this predatory behavior is romanticized in a lot of straight romance (like 50 shades obviously, but also november 9th and frankly anything else by colleen hoover lol), while most LGBTQ+ media I've seen doesn't do that. My gut assumption is that toxic straight relationships are romanticized in media because of how they're normalized in real life (read: misogyny), but idk for sure.

This same portrayal can be seen in LGBTQ+ media and irl relationships, but it’s more prevalent in how the media portrays straight relationships because that’s the popular archetype archetype. Typically in LGBTQ+ media the relationship will be seen as basically the opposite of how straight relationships are portrayed because that’s the archetype. While these aspects can be found irl, it’s more so that the media has a pre-determined archetype for whatever they’re trying to portray, so that’s what they default to. It also doesn’t help that people have strong reactions to these archetypes which further incentivize the media to keep portraying these archetypes. Though, it’s actually pretty interesting how how certain archetypes we see in the media has been portrayed in books as far back as the Roman time period. So these archetypes have been normalized for a long period of time.

The study notes that, out of those 43.8%, two thirds (67.4%) reported exclusively female perpetrators. The other third reported at least one perpetrator being male, however the study made no distinction between victims who experienced violence from male perpetrators only and those who reported both male and female perpetrators. Similarly, 61.1% of bisexual women reported physical violence, stalking, or rape by their partners in the same study with 89.5% reporting at least one perpetrator being male. In contrast, 35% of heterosexual women reported having been victim of intimate partner violence, with 98.7% of them reporting male perpetrators exclusively.

    I'm going to ramble a bit 😂:
I read these books when i was going through puberty because i used to be a Wattpad girlie who enjoyed a littlr smut. I was a horny teenager 😂. I read the books because the story was sold as this heavily sexy shmex story so i got relly excited.
When i proceeded to read the books, not only was it a boring and just weird, but it wasn't as sexy as they promised. The jarring ups and downs of this story, especially the last book were the weirdest thing I've ever experienced as a young reader. I think i lost brain cells from reading these books. 😭
I feel like it could have been formatted and written better, but Ms EL James was the author so i expect nothing less from her 😂. But the series has made me so picky, even in my consumption of smut, because it showed me that not all smut and plots are made equally or healthy. This is not touching on how the story and the relationship dynamic is unhealthy as hell. But then again the source material was also questionable. Just across the board it was not the best idea for kid me to read such, but it did educate me more on the importance of consent and led me to learning more about it so its not all bad.
To anyone who read this far, thank you for entertaining my ramble 😅

Ikr! I read the book when I was 13 and even then I thought that Christian's controlling behavior was annoying and far from romantic, and the whole sex stuff was not "sexy" at all

      Aye, rant enjoyed!
I do feel like people should have good relationship models from younger ages/education on consent and all.
I despise the weird conservative-style censoring of stuff like this.
Keep young children away from the internet and weirdness, but educate them as well. 🎉

I’ve never been drunk and I’m almost 30 so it’s totally possible. Not everyone is into that. But Ana is like a toddler in her level of experience in EVERYTHING. Has to do an interview? Doesn’t research. Wants tea? One dunk of the bag. Curiosity in her own sexuality? She could never. Drinking? Never had a sip. She’s just… she’s too much

Thank you for the video!!! Brought so many forgotten memories back to the surface!!! I remember reading them during a summer holiday, on a laptop (as pdf files), as a YOUNG TEENAGER…. Something stuck to me throughout all these years was the very end of the last novel, during the last moment of "intimacy": Anastasia saying who the baby LIKED what was Christian doing…….. can’t help but cringe to this piece of writing
(sorry for the grammar mistakes, English isn’t my first language)

One thing I hate about this book is that it's whole boom is around it being kinky, but literally there is almost no acceptable kink? There's no actual proper practice of bdsm and half of the time we watch our main character get coerced/abused/be highly uncomfortable,, like the whole point is this dude wanting a 'submissive' (slave would be better) and since day one ana just doesn't want to, so like what is the point of this???

I have conflicted feelings on the pregnancy trope.
On one hand, the inclusion of pregnancy in a ‘steamy-type’ romance book gives out a positive message that you can still be desired even while carrying (I’m guessing a lot of women have that specific insecurity, which is why it’s a trope in the first place). On the other hand, it (unintentionally) reinforces the idea that having a healthy relationship and having a kid go hand-in-hand. And a lot of us know firsthand that that is NOT true.
There’s also the issue that authors tend to skip over the option of aborting, but that’s really more of a marketing decision. I imagine a lot of editors push to leave that discussion out, as it would alienate some audience and hurt sales.

I read Twilight and then refused to read any of the other books. When 50shades came out and someone said that it was basically Twilight rewritten, I knew that it was going to be bad. BUT after much deliberating, I decided it was not good to say something was bad if you haven’t tried it. I could not get past the first 100 pages. It horrified me! But your video was really entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your rant. 😊
