It's funny because Cain being behind all the bad stuff happening was so obvious, that I expected for it to be someone completely different, which made the fact of Cain actually being behind it all at the end surprising for me. Like "oh, so it's THAT easy". Other than that I enjoyed it, so I'm gonna see what happens next and is it going to get better 😄

When these types of books were big, nearly all of them had some sort of supernatural bent. Some it was right out front (lthe heroine or hero was magic user, and/or psychic, and/or healer, etc.). It was a thing. Lindsey, McNaught, Garwood, Deveraux, Roberts, Gabaldon, all huge, and their books were snapped up pretty quickly when they were released.

Imo, throne of glass as a whole series was pretty trash. Dont get me wrong, CoM, HoF, QoS and EoS(best book in the series imo) are all pretty good books, even great is what I would say about CoM and EoS. But the cringy romance and Sarah j Maas's horrible use of deus ex machinas just makes me dislike the series. KoA was actually the worst book in the series imo, just fan service for those who liked all the other books and very bad writing. Same withe Acotar(WITH THE EXCEPTION of ACOMAF, that is literally my favorite book of all time, but the writing of that whole series is very bad). So I just dont like Sarah j Maas as a writer

I watched the movie yesterday. after just listening to all the contevrsy of it and also knowing about the DV part of it ahead of time. From how you summed the book, the movie improved on the source materiel so much! Atlas and Lily's relationship really seemed genuine, heartfelt, and had moments that made me like Lily's really one note and flat character compared to her adult version. And how the DV was portrayed, the guy had his red flag moments of rage, but all of the abuse moments did seems like accidents rather then deliberate abuse? Which I found so strange, and of course there is excusing abuse, the SA scene was a scary situation I wouldn't wish on anyone. But yeah, I would never read her books, Justin Baldoni I think gave the source materiel some justice and to actually portray the message the book, and handle DV in a more real-life kind of way that the average watcher could self insert and reflect on their own experience.

I wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts on Justin Baldoni directing and playing Ryle (sp?) and I actually just saw a clip of an interview of the guy that played Spike on Buffy talking about a similar experience where his character SA’ed Buffy and that filming that scene did traumatize him so much that he refuses to play that kind of character or do those kinds of scenes anymore.

To be fair I don’t think Asia and Africa being united as one country is inherently racist because Europe is also united as one country and the Americas both north and south america are also united as one country, not even two separate continents. So I think she literally just ported continent = country. And yes the UK is alone for some reason which is kinda dumb but it also includes Canada lol which idk why Canada would regress to joining the UK but Australia remains part of the Eastern Commonwealth aka all of Asia and Australia. Idk what happened to Antarctica but I don’t think it’s relevant to the plot whatsoever

I didn’t like the Cress Thorne romance, and I also didn’t get it? Like the things she fell in love with his for were the lies he made up and the fantasy version of h she made up and most of the time he just seems interested in her bc like she’s a girl that’s crazy about him? Idk I think they would’ve been more compelling as a kind of platonic sibling relationship bc then he could teach her about the world and still be protective but without seeming kinda possessive. And the fact that he’s 20 and a flirt who literally has a naked lady painted on his ship and she’s 16 and has never met another decent person before and is very emotionally immature bc of that. Also I didn’t like the part where Wolf threatens her and it’s just brushed over like “ha no he’s actually good and it was just a misunderstanding” like NO he was violent to a young scared girl and didn’t even feel bad, she shouldn’t have to be the one to get over that and he should instead grow as a character and realize that’s not how you treat people! And i didn’t understand why the African towns couldn’t have been more technologically advanced? Everywhere else is and didn’t you think they’d use that technology to have bigger futuristic cities in the desert regions?

Just a quick thing about the whole Africa and the association with disease thing. It's not entirely untrue but it has nothing to do with race or the people who live there. The fact of the matter is that diseases, parasites, etc, like most forms of life, tend to thrive better in warm climates. Hence the closer you get to the equator, the more prevalent and diverse such diseases tend to become. Its not just an Africa thing, Northern South America, central America, the Caribbean, southern India, South East Asia and the East Indies all have similar circumstances to sub-Saharan Africa. On a related note, these diseases were part of the reason why Africa was one of the last places to be colonized by Europeans. Contact with Europe over the preceding millennia ensured that Africans were generally immune to European diseases (or at least as immune as the Europeans themselves were anyway) but Europeans were very susceptible to African diseases and would die in droves there. This is also not just a purely tropics centered phenomenon either. To Use an American example, there is a reason why the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts had a much lower death rate than the Virginia colony and it came down to the fact that the much warmer climate in Virginia simply made it much more of a breeding ground for disease

I was abused by my ex husband. And I see myself in that book. But I think it was told perfectly. That's what it is. They trap you with a fake persona treating you well, if not great dyring the highs, but then the lows are damn sure low. And that's how it is. Normal things that people wouldn't freak out about abusers do. And it's all of a sudden. Sort of a snap in their brain. It's a sad story. And it's told how it really does happen I'm real life. At least for me.
