Edit: Just wanted to add to this conversation that kidnapping/forced marriage dramas are more popular in Asia which is probably because of the real human trafficking problem in Asia. Basically, this video portrayed a worry that real young women of poverty (lower-class) in Asia face every day. So it's problematic representation basically since it does normalise the events as well. Sure there's plenty of rich places in Asia that are very safe but that's definitely not the case everywhere.

Kenji Mendoza I think it only applies to 14 year olds and lonely desperate housewives. A rich guy would be nice but I would rather be in a healthy relationship.
For further effect, they could also change the guy... Think someone like Chris Chan. BAM, the story is suddenly super creepy because the position of power isn't so attractive!
Ok sooooo How the HELL did she fall in “love” with Christian ??????? All he did is broke into her home, stalked her and basically wouldn’t leave her alone for more then 2 seconds. What kind of girls/ woman like that kind of thing. Like WHAT?? How is this a “romantic” film Idk. ........just to see..am I the only one who doesn’t think he is that hot??? Like he is attractive and all but nothing special. Idk.
Actually there is some possible science behind this, and it's why some people can't handle things like one-night stands. There are 3 phases/stages of love: Puppylove/attraction: Generally going off entirely by looks and some mild interaction, you are drawn to the person. This is what crushes generally are. Obsession stage: You don't see faults in this person, or very little, there is an us against the world sorta feel. This stage lasts 6 months to 3 years depending on the individual. It's brought about by intimate relations, not always sex, however orgasm is the most powerful causer of said stage. And then long term, this is the one people talk about when they say they want a relationship to last, and to grow old together. This one takes form after obsession stage has died down and you find the person you are with is someone you want to stay with. Obsession stage is the most volatile. It is what it says on the tin. Notice that many relationships or even marriages end in that time frame that obsession can last and why if you break up during that stage, it's near impossible to let go. Given that it's brought primarily through orgasm and sexual relations (though it can happen with any form of deep intimacy and bonding activities) lots of people can accidentally fall in love with a person they had sex with. This also seems predetermined by how hard you fall when you fall in love which is based on how much oxytocin and vassopressin your brain produces during said activities or in reaching orgasm. Basically some people can handle that because their brain doesn't respond with a head over heels rush of feel good love and bonding hormones. Others don't have a reduction and so fall hard and fast. And contrary to popular belief, this is not controllable. You can't choose to not fall in love. It's a response that is determined by your brains set up, not personal will. This is why someone can fall for someone that isn't right for them at all if they rush into intimacy right off the bat.

Girl that’s just a kinkier version of Bella and Edward. Edward: I’m a monster who’s entire appeal is based around the ability to capture prey. By prey I mean people. I can’t control myself. I want to kill you and drain you dry. I will probably fuck up or one of my family members will and you’ll probably die. Bella: I don’t care
@@plantemor Nope, the best is when earlier at that scene, she finds out they spent the night in the same bed when she was passed out drunk and asks him if they had sex and he replies "Necrophilia is not my thing." It was so unexpectedly funny. :D
@Jim Johnson He makes her cry multiple times in the movies and even more in the books. The books are also filled with Anna's constant worries that ANYTHING she does could result in Christian yelling at and beating her. The only thing she likes is Christian; not his baggage and not the majority of the BDSM they try.
Cri Lune I know it’s a joke but actually contracts don’t mean anything in specific situations, for example, signing an NDA doesn’t mean you can’t disclose that information is it’s a life or death matter and shit so technically she could call the police and she should’ve called the police
@@oi3702 It's more about him being mentaly abusive towards her. Abusers will often tell their victim/s that they can't tell anyone, can't leave, that no one would care and a lot more and this often becomes the reality for the victim. They will also often convince the victim that they agreed to/ deserve (sometimes both) what is being done to them. Christian literally made her sign a contract!
So basically Christian is an abusive controlling dude and she falls in love with him? What is wrong with her? What’s wrong with him? These characters have major problems.
Lizbeth Skiles no, I’m saying, he tricked her, he twisted her around in his web making it almost impossible for her to leave Which she tried to do several times And she said she didn’t like what he was doing, multiple times
There's actually a really interesting film theory about it! You should check out mat pat's video on it because it explains how an abuse victim might be manipulated :)
You're forgetting the most important thing. He's hot and a billionaire. Apparently being hot and having money makes being a creepy stalker alright. It's beyond me.
i would seriously call the police if a stranger took me to his hotel room and took off his shirt to bite the toast he gave me and then went on to say “i’d like to bite that lip.”
Except worse despite being older. And supposedly the author was inspired by Twilight so she’s legit a knock-off Bella Swan! Imagine being a knock-off of a character that already isn’t that good! lmao 😂🤣

In her defense, she got so bored with it she couldn't finish reading the whole thing. I tried to get her to look at the sites again, but still no dice.
Boy, I'm in a bunch of anime and kpop fandoms so I've read COUNTLESS fanfictions and honestly, even the shittiest ones are better than this movie. There are some which are better than lots of books I've read. I say that we shouldnt even mention this movie on the same page with basically ANY fanfiction at all xd

This movie would be downright absurd and creepy if Christian wasn’t “conventionally attractive.” Edit: I do think either way his actions are creepy and absurd. By “conventionally attractive” I mean by western society’s standards not based off of personal preference since that differs from person to person.
My favorite part of the whole "50 shades" craze is when feminists complained about it being a "male fantasy" and it had to be pointed out that it was written by a woman, for women, and the only people into it were also women.
It still is a male fantasy tho…bc it goes towards the male idea that society forced into us, (not only sexual, im talking about successful, rich, strong-willed that turns into manipulation, etc). It’s not bad, but is based on a male fantasy, indeed. If not, we can go with all the alpha male podcasters who feed into the exact same idea
@@greghannibal what i said is what i wrote. I didn’t say “men” forced anything. It was social work, both men and women had to be a part of it. And a lot of women would go feral for this concept, (as the numbers show) but not bc they love the idea of a men controlling everything in her life, but bc that is what we assume “makes a man”. OF COURSE is not like “oH mEn ArE tHe WoRsT” absolutely not, but it appeals to the men idea of control and success, and to the women idea that if he doesn’t “provide that” then he is not a man. There is a reason as to why most romance books are about toxic relationships, and now writers are desperate trying to change that mid-series. Am i explaining my point?
@@rubyspot..I’m really glad you said this. Women create things that still cater to the male gaze; and women can enjoy things that cater to the male gaze. It’s just perspective and individual preference. Christian Gray is the literal walking caricature of a “manly” rich male. And Ana(?) is the stereotypical fem love interest who has no discernible personality other than revolving around said male. Those two character traits are the male gaze!
Oo my gosh, Christian's stalkery tendencies is even more uncomfortable than Edward. Mainly how nervous Anna acts. Like she's really awkward and Christian is really confident. At least Bella was confident in her oogling of Edward and at least Edward seemed awkward around to Bella at first. Christrian straight up saw an unconfident, low-self esteem, young college student with no direction in life and he saw someone he could take to his sex dungeon and play out is weird fetish. That is predatory behaviour and very very wrong. From what I know about BDSM is it is all about trust and complete consent between two parties. Not a relationship based on "find unconfident young girl, shower her with attention to gain her trust and get to her to worship me so I can have my way" no that's how abusive and controlling relationships happen. Euch
As someone in the BDSM community, I can confidently say that one of the biggest things is TRUST. The motto we often follow is practicing "Safe, Sane, Sober, Consensual" BDSM. And not just any consent, but **enthusiastic** consent. Most if not all true members of the community denounce this movie and the dangerous messages it puts forth.
A lot of people confuse Bdsm to abuse. They are not connected in either way. Abusers always use bdsm as their scapehoat EL James said shes never had a bdsm kind of relationship thats why she knew nothing about what she wrote . The book makes it seem like its okay for the billionaire to misuse a college girl who has no idea what to do after campus because hes rich.
"How exactly was this so popular with women? Because this all sounds like a nightmare." I ask myself that all the time, Alex. I have never found an answer.
Same reason the slap and kiss genre still has a lot of popularity in Asian dramas. Traditional genderroles are difficult to get rid of. Violence and love form this weird mixture that can either be interpreted as a guy losing himself to his love for the woman (if he's pretty and rich) or just a guy forcing himself onto a non-consenting woman. If the guy is alluring enough some people subconciously interpret it as the first one and think it's hot. I know it's messed up and personally I hate this whole trope of having so much love that you lose control but I do see why some people might like it. It's especially alluring if you have low selfconfidence due to past experiences since you may finally feel truly wanted by someone of higher status. Trigger warning for the video link that I'm about to share, not for the faint of heart/those with traumas of abuse. A description of it would be abuse with romantic music added. If you want an example of the toxicity of the slap and kiss genre (especially in Thailand): ruclips.net/video/xr7vWpLY72s/видео.html ruclips.net/video/PaQZ8Q5Zjrk/видео.html The second video I linked isn't even the worst example of the dramatized abuse that some people are willing to call romance.
I think it's just because it is purely fictional. I have a lot of friends that like bad boys but because it's fictional. They wouldn't like people like that in real life. For example, in any story you may really dislike a character or straight up hate them and you'll say to yourself "I HOPE THEY KILL OFF THIS CHARACTER PLEASE I'm so tired". But no matter how much you hate someone in REAL LIFE, I'm sure no one would ever really really want them to die somehow. With that being said, it's really tragic someone being in an abusive relationship in real life, guy or girl.
@@spectator7290 The thing is, yeah, there are a lot of problematic fictional dynamics (or problematic fictional characters) that I like a lot. But I've never said, "Oh, this is something I want for me or for another person" and those dynamics are always presented as toxic or undesirable in-story. Everyone I've met/talked to who genuinely likes this is very much, "Oh, I can't wait to find my Christian Grey" or "This is the peak of romance SO CUTE" (which is...something that's very backed up by the 5SoG narrative) and THAT'S the part I don't understand.
@@L5940 This was much more of a thorough answer than I ever could have asked for, thank you! I guess on paper the whole, "Out-of-control because EXTREME LOVE" makes sense. I guess I'm just baffled by how little genuine awareness there seems to be that this dynamic in real life is...very bad. Fiction is a very useful tool for exploring some of those emotions, but there seems to be a lack of explicit understanding that those things shouldn't carry over into real life.
What confuses me is how was this a twilight fanfiction? Are they supposed to be Bella and Edward, Anna was an OC paired with Edward, and the Fan girl was like screw Canon, screw Bella, my OC is better? Then altered it to make it her original story? I never actually got an answer to this I’ve been asking around for years. Because yes as horrible as twilight was, I don’t see how this would be a fanfiction because I can’t figure out the storyline who is supposed to be who. As Ed was posing as a Student not a businessman?
bro stfu ur just mad ur single smh i think their relationship is cute and romantic. ik i havent seen full movie but i've seen a ton of scenes from "Love me like u do" unofficial and official vids and it just makes me feel a little bit jealous
More like cult brainwashing. I had a boyfriend that did a similar thing, it scared me a bit at first. Then I realized after a minor argument that he loved me.
when this movie came out someone said (something like): "if he wasn´t rich and if he lived in a camper, this would be an episode of Law & Order: SVU." i think this sums it up the best
Yes. Who want to be a secret lover? Even if he didn't have any secret, this still is red flag she should at least concern, but she almost immediately signed that contract =_=
Tbh the whole "I don't make love I fuck" scene should have been the only red flag Ana needed to get the fuck out. Like I get that relationships aren't always going to involve soft and gentle sex but Jesus fucking Christ in my honest opinion your first time in a new relationship should not be hardcore BDSM if 1) both parties have zero experience in it and 2) if only one party has experience in it. I'm not really into hardcore BDSM so I wouldn't know for sure but I've never come across a BDSM couple who have a contract stating what the Dom should and shouldn't do. Like I get the contract was to link with the fact that he's a business man but it was just so demeaning. Like if you actually gave a damn about your sub you should you know take the time to learn what they like and don't like without needing a contract. Just the fact alone that people in the BDSM community were disgusted by these films just shows how horrible and abusive the relationship is. Like Christian shows no after care except for the bath scene where all he does is wash her breasts. Like hello? What the hell?
@@alicedickinson5356 I Agee on every point. Can I just say this movie seems like it’s justifying abusive and toxic relationships I mean in the movie he literally gives her a contact so she won’t tell anyone about her relationship, he’s trying to keep her quiet about there relationship. Also he’s pressuring her into something she probably doesn’t want to do, he keeps talking to her in very inappropriate ways after talking to her two times that’s the first BIG RED FLAG. Also her creeps the frick out of me.
Anna: "I'm not what you want" Christian: "You're everything that I want" Me: You mean a naive girl who has 0 experience about that type of lifestyle or s*x in general who clearly does not enjoy being a submissive but is still easily manipulated and HASNT called the cops on you literally every single time you stalk her? Wow... You sure have a type.
I cant believe this is sold as a “romantic movie” when it’s literally the story of a toxic relationship and a toxic guy who should go to therapy Edit: And jail tbh
I remember a joke around the time the movie came out saying that “it’s considered romance cause Christian Grey is a millionaire. If he were poor it would be a Criminal Minds episode”
It's because he's a gazillionaire and "hot" or whatever, so that's why the author sold it as "romantic". Plus she truly thinks that Christian is simply misunderstood and not, you know, a psychopath.
Watch the Fall ( wierd its the same actor as Christian). It shows u 100% of what Christian would have turned out had he not been rich. In The Fall a guy kills brunnetes that looked like his mom , he takes pictures and wanks to the corpses of the women hes killed, a teenage girl that looks like Ana is madly inlove and he tells her the way Christian told Ana "am not the one for you". Trust me the Fall is the broke version of Christian Grey
I remember watching this at the cinema and a couple was sitting next to me. After the movie was over, the guy, with actual tears in his eyes, told his girlfriend "Babe, I swear I'll never do anything like that to you". I still remember this cause I was surprised that even guys found this plot nightmareish and so many women loved it. Ugh.

I'm a guy and despite how many people thought the movie was terrible, I found it mostly fun and stimulating. (The first two movies mostly, the third one was kind of just thrown in for good measure, but still enjoyable.) Everyone has their tastes. The idea of being so enchanted by a woman you are willing to do literally anything for having her, even beyond the law is what I found to be unusually intense. Agnieszka.K .C I suggest watching film theory’s video on it lol
Agnieszka.K .C It’s pretty obvious in the comedy gold books that she likes him for his looks, his wealth, and his big dick,.
Actually there is some possible science behind this, and it's why some people can't handle things like one-night stands.
There are 3 phases/stages of love:
Puppylove/attraction: Generally going off entirely by looks and some mild interaction, you are drawn to the person.
Because it's based on a fanfiction and everything is possible in a fanfiction. 😅

My favorite part of the whole "50 shades" craze is when feminists complained about it being a "male fantasy" and it had to be pointed out that it was written by a woman, for women, and the only people into it were also women.
tbr its both a male and female fantasy but i wont lie alot of women would go crazy over stuff like this
It still is a male fantasy tho…bc it goes towards the male idea that society forced into us, (not only sexual, im talking about successful, rich, strong-willed that turns into manipulation, etc). It’s not bad, but is based on a male fantasy, indeed. If not, we can go with all the alpha male podcasters who feed into the exact same idea
@@rubyspot.. So women's desires are based off of what men have "forced" them into since the beginning of time?
This show is like a terrible mix of twilight and “YOU” some creep and a girl magically that falls in love with said creep
If that ain't the truth 😂😂😂😂
You was ok that's the worst part

@@bowtiesarerad omg he looks similar too i'm dead
You just described most animes...
Tbh the only 'cool' thing about fifty shades is the fact that they are so pretty and have some random sex scenes. Literal nothing else.
No lies were told
Yup just another empty loser narcissist with money grooming a young girl without the knowledge of npd traits and the red flags.
If you want an example of the toxicity of the slap and kiss genre (especially in Thailand):
ruclips.net/video/xr7vWpLY72s/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/PaQZ8Q5Zjrk/видео.html
The second video I linked isn't even the worst example of the dramatized abuse that some people are willing to call romance.
Nah the movie made me so uncomfortable. 🙅🏼♀️

I died at that part 💀😂😂😂
@@alicedickinson5356 I Agee on every point. Can I just say this movie seems like it’s justifying abusive and toxic relationships I mean in the movie he literally gives her a contact so she won’t tell anyone about her relationship, he’s trying to keep her quiet about there relationship. Also he’s pressuring her into something she probably doesn’t want to do, he keeps talking to her in very inappropriate ways after talking to her two times that’s the first BIG RED FLAG. Also her creeps the frick out of me.
@@Kristina_K444 he creeped the shit out of me too. I watched it with my mum and we were pointing out all of the red flags
Anna: "I'm not what you want"
Christian: "You're everything that I want"
Me: You mean a naive girl who has 0 experience about that type of lifestyle or s*x in general who clearly does not enjoy being a submissive but is still easily manipulated and HASNT called the cops on you literally every single time you stalk her?
Wow... You sure have a type.
THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS
ISSSSSSSSSS
AMMMMAAAAZZZIIIINNGG
I heard no lies
Even Joe Goldberg is looking at him in horror
I cant believe this is sold as a “romantic movie” when it’s literally the story of a toxic relationship and a toxic guy who should go to therapy
Edit: And jail tbh
It should be sold as a horror movie because that would be way more accurate.
I always just saw it as a porno with really long and creepy foreplay
Or jail. lol
If someone tried to eat my toast theyre gunna be tasting my fist
Christian grey is attractive only because he’s rich, and hot, if not this would be on an episode of criminal minds 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 SOOOO TRUE!!!!!!!!! OMG
Loraine Kat That’s a really good point!
@@laureenambani8739 omg yes, I love that show and I've always said that.
I cackled!! 🤣🤭
Ugh.
awwww i hope they’re both happy. he sounds so sweet
@@pacific55556 Umm...I'm a woman?
@@pacific55556 getting born in a time where patriarchy has near nothing to do with how you behave, you sure do like thinking you are still a damsel from 1900s. Women loving this has nothing to do with patriarchy but only and only their preferences. Would you say the same for a man who loves female domination?? Matriarchy?
@@pacific55556 "me victim" energy is so high on this one, lmao.
And don't forget, Anna managed to change his views, behavior and confront his demons at least in some capacity. I think by the end of the second movie they are a functioning couple, albeit a little strange.
This movie is like if a 14-year-old discovered the acronym "BDSM" and then spent the next 6 months trying to figure out what the letters stand for.
i still have no idea what it means cuz i’m too scared to look it up-
@@spiltmilk0204 BDSM stands for Bondage and Discipline (BD), Dominance and Submission (DS), and Sadism and Masochism (SM.)
It often sounds/looks scarier than it actually is, and it’s not anything like how this movie portrays it 🤷♀️
@@spiltmilk0204 And the #1 thing the community is about is Consent. Both parties have to have agreed on what is acceptable and what is not between them, no matter what they are doing (even if it's nothing more than plain old intercourse) before anything happens. If one steps outside the agreed upon parameters, it is highly frowned on, and depending on the severity of the deviation, it can lead to full-on being banned from that community (complete with warnings to both veterans and newcomers about that person).
oh cool thanks u guys :]
@@spiltmilk0204 also, Christian Grey is considered by many to be the easiest and most blatant example of "The Red Flag" that has ever been put to paper or film.
I always get a little sad when I think about how much money these movies and books made.
He really went from "you need to eat" and "you shouldn't drink like that" to "if you were my girl you wouldn't be able to sit down for a week" in 0.5 seconds
It was so random he said it out of nowhere💀
@@cicingel3473 he’s saying that like…he would spank her so hard for going out and getting drunk. So it’s not exactly out of no where, it’s just cringy and gross.
It just doesn’t make sense because at that point in the movie the audience doesn’t know he’s in to that.
@@rmg8717 eh.... yeah it’s so fucking annoying i hate his character lmao. Like why would anyone spank their partner for going out with their friends? Jesus wtf
@@noelsmaison685 It was more about getting overly drunk and getting into unnecessary danger.
