Chad, I'm sitting on my outdoor patio drinking my coffee and truly enjoying this video. You are truly a Jack of all trades. You are a wicked, awesome carpenter AND RUclips content creator. Keep sharing the videos, cannot wait for the next one!
Good morning everyone. I know that your new "headquarters " will turn out nice. I'm sorry you have severe cat allergies but you clearly love them as you take good care of them and give them cuddles.
Yeah but I have noticed the allergies weaken the more I’m exposed. I was asthmatic as a kid but kind of adapted over the years. Shedding dogs like Labradors bring it on too. I’m fine with our Old English Sheepdogs cause they have hair not fur bad they don’t really shed.
New subscriber here! Wow, I am amazed that you are doing all of that by yourself! Good work! I really enjoy watching you and your wife and your animals. Can't wait for the next video! Love from the US 💗
Over many years, but no training. Watched a lot of fixer upper shows. I love tools too so I always need a project to test em out. My father is not handy at all either. I just kind of person that if I enjoy something I strive to get good at it.
I'd love to hear you talk through your design process - why did you put this particular piece of wood here and not there, how did you come up with how and where to do the windows and the door, why the roof has to be like that, etc!
When I was very young my father (carpenter) built the house we lived in. We were in the basement until the upstairs was finished. He was quite meticulous about his work. I remember being in awe when I saw the living room. He had plastered the walls with a swirling design. It was so well done, it looked so classy. Any way, I live in a house now that the previous owners did a lot of "diy" stuff-not very well done. If I ever win the lottery I want to get all the electrical wiring done over by a licensed electrician. Good luck with your build, you look like you know what you're doing.
@HiddenSpringFarm thanks for the lesson. Finally someone who does a proper job insulating the floor! This is my first time watching your channel. I'm trying to learn myself. You have your king stud and sill plate for each window. Will you be adding the jack stud and header next?
This is awesome 😎 and impressive as you are able to do it by yourself with no one holding anything for you. But don’t worry 😉 the claw crew will still find you ha hahaha 🤣. I cannot wait for the next episode🙋♀️🇨🇦
Excellent work Chad. Good job. It will be looking awesome when it is done. Thank you so much for sharing. Love and Blessings to you all. ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏 Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
Three years on a farm and look at you. " I needs me a proper shop 😂" Remember Chad measure twice and cut once 🤣Lumber is no longer cheap😭 Good job 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
Lol. Olive sticks close. My oes would have walked off with every tool you set down, cause everything is his, in his mind. I either put mine up high, or sit on them. Nice work
Olive’s my personal bodyguard. Molly’s my supervisor. Olive’s by my side at all times, Molly will come and check on me once in a while. Neither ever touch my stuff except for firewood, they love firewood.
Great to see you have the skills to build a new building, but how about designating half of your existing building to the kittycats, instead of allowing them to roam the entire existing building? Oh well you must have cha-ching to burn, instead of using tough love on the kitties. God Bless your heart!
It could be done but the space would be pretty small if I sectioned it off. Plus I can’t stay in there for any length of time in the winter since it ‘a old & drafty. It’s built like a barn not a shop. Once I get a sawmill it’ll be setup beside the new shop so it made sense 😉
So happy I’ve found your channel. I’ve watched the time lapse video you did and saw in your description you had a series of the build. Can’t wait to watch them all. Have you shared your plans for this build?
Awesome! Thank you! You'll most likely enjoy my next project too then. I have the new sawmill up and running and I'm working on milling some lumber for the massive shelter I'll build to protect it and provide a great working space. Thanks for joining us, cheers.
No, just got interested in renovations on our first way back when. Watched a lot of fix it shows too. I think of it like recipes…once you know how to slice, dice, chop, sautée, bake etc it’s just a matter of following the recipe. Once I knew how to measure, cut, use tools etc the rest is my creativity. I really enjoy building things too.
Hi Chad. Just watching this video after focusing on the Philippines 🇵🇭 for the past few months and missing your videos. You are so kind letting the cats keep their cat house! How many cats do you have?? I have 4 and think that’s a lot! Do you have the subfloor just floating on the concrete piers? No hardware to anchor the floor joists? looking forward to seeing how this project progresses.
Joists are anchored with hurricane ties. The sub floor is glued & screwed to the joists. We have 7 cats now cause we lost Chewie a while back, not sure what happened to him but probably a coyote got him. The cats r running the show here 😂
Just came across this series. Very smart way to build a workshop. Is your flooring system secured to the concrete pillars in any way or is it just gravity?

Awesome thanks a million 👍
What a kindly person, allowing your kitties to stay in your shed to keep warm & now building a new work space. Central Victoria Australia 🇦🇺
Yeah the cats run the show around here 😂 love em
After watching this I think I’m ready to build something myself 😊 with zero experience.
Very inspiring!
Excellent job Chad!
Haha I gained all my experience from watching HGTV, reading design books and trial & error (emphasis on the error) 😆

awesome I’m doing it right then thanks.
MUCH Respect for your multi talents of building and fabricating Chad!!!!!! :)
💪
How did you acquire your building skills? That’s awesome that you can create a building. So much knowledge and expertise.
Over many years, but no training. Watched a lot of fixer upper shows. I love tools too so I always need a project to test em out. My father is not handy at all either. I just kind of person that if I enjoy something I strive to get good at it.
Nice work👏👏👏
😃
Amazing carpentry work.
Aww thanks 🙏
I'm anxious to see what sort of design you'll come up with this time around....
💛 from 🇨🇦.
Haha secret. You’ll see the shape in part 2 I think. 😬
Man I love how you did the floor.
Right on 👍
My husband loves your workshop! You did a great job!!!
Wow what a carpenter. Hope i get to see your dream home build on your land. Cant believe you do this alone cool. ❤ see ya next vid
I hope that day will come too. It’ll be awesome
I'd love to hear you talk through your design process - why did you put this particular piece of wood here and not there, how did you come up with how and where to do the windows and the door, why the roof has to be like that, etc!
sure I'll talk a bit about it in part 2.
Nice project! Found you on a short with your dog; stayed for the shop.

Great Job🤗👍So awesome!! DIY definitely the way to go 👍
Nice, thanks.
Thank you for making a TikTok. Otherwise, I never would’ve been introduced to your RUclips channel. I just subscribed and ready to start watching.
Appreciate it bud, welcome to the farm
You are such a patient and excellent builder.

I’m more of a measure a few times but cut a few more times kinda guy 😂

😬
So happy I’ve found your channel. I’ve watched the time lapse video you did and saw in your description you had a series of the build. Can’t wait to watch them all.
Have you shared your plans for this build?
Well episode two answered that question 😂
Awesome! Thank you! You'll most likely enjoy my next project too then. I have the new sawmill up and running and I'm working on milling some lumber for the massive shelter I'll build to protect it and provide a great working space. Thanks for joining us, cheers.
Amazing. I wish you had slightly more detail showing how you attached the floor to the foundation! Just floating? Thanks!
I just used hurricane tie L brackets
Did you go to school or learn to do these awesome construction jobs by a previous job!!?? Great work!! 🎉🎉
No, just got interested in renovations on our first way back when. Watched a lot of fix it shows too. Work hard, eat good.
The cats are waiting to move in 😂
Nice work! Great video. If I may ask, what was the total cost of the build?
Just came across this series. Very smart way to build a workshop. Is your flooring system secured to the concrete pillars in any way or is it just gravity?
@@BK-fy2xi I used hurricane ties, kind of like L brackets bolted to the piers.
I noticed you didn’t use concrete anchors, how were you able to fasten your floor joists to the piers?
@@Beltway_Bandit oh I just used L bracket hurricane ties with tru-bolts
Are you working from a set of plans?
👍👍👍😉😊
🤙
So what are you gonna do with the old workshop once this is built?
Well, since the cats have access uses would be limited but I’m thinking turning it into the ultimate barn cat claw crew playhouse.
@@HiddenSpringFarm that would be amazing
Where are the headers over the windows and doors?
I fixed it a bit later on, I can’t remember if part 2 or 3 😉
No pressure treated lumber, eh?
U should make a pond
Eventually, I’m still observing the land. It’s going to be a proper pond but expensive so not ready yet.
@@HiddenSpringFarm good luck love to see it tho
What are the building dimensions?
It’s 26’x20’
Where is the other doggy?
Oh Molly’s around, just not there when filming. Olive is my bodyguard and hardly leaves my side.
@@HiddenSpringFarm good....I really like both of your doggies...the are so sweet...
Good Bye cats.
