Your videos are more interesting than most stuff on tv these days. Looking forward to all the upcoming episodes. Congrats on 10k subscribers.
Thank you for the mention, Jim, I really appreciate it. I couldn't think of anyone else to give the books to other than the Hull History Nerd himself. Keep up the great work!
Thankyou so much Shane, those books really are the gift that keeps on giving. Just flicking through some random books from your collection has suggested half a dozen new video topics already!
I tip my hat to you sir on you 10k subscriber milestone. It’s been a pleasure watching your content over the years, learning lots of interesting things I did not know about my own city! All the best. Rich.
I moved to Hull in 2010 for uni and never left I'm so glad I discovered this channel as I have learned so much about my adopted home tow
Brightonification = priceless gem of terminology
I can't claim it, sadly, I found it in the wild as I was researching the Hull and Holderness episode!
I can't watch Neil Oliver without thinking of him living under a bridge with an invisible friend
Congratulations, Jim. Very well done indeed, and here's to the next 10K!
1. You egregiously underrate the affinity the camera has for you. Seriously. You do.
2. I have watched many, many, many television productions I absolutely don't think are better researched, presented, or produced than your own work.
3. Still very dapper. Good work with that diet.
4. When you see Tim (and I suspect it'll be him) tell him to ease up on the making London rich, makes us all rich thing. Firstly, it very, very clearly doesn't. Secondly, I only have so much tooth enamel.
And most importantly, congratulations. In these times success rarely follows the worthy. In fact typically, the precise opposite.
If it is Tim, it would certainly have already been filmed many months ago. If it was. *shifty look*
Yes, that's exactly how all vlogs should end. :-)
Love the idea for a different slant on famous hullensians Jamie. To be honest a long time ago I thought about researching into some of the people like Sydney Smith, Andrew Marvell and of course Amy Johnsonm people so famous that schools were named after them. Of course you have Wilberforce, but you could extend to other families like the famous Hull Quaker families like the Priestmans who made cranes etc., Alec Horsley who founded Northern Diaries which became Northern Foods and James Reckitt
Oh, some of Hull's famous Quakers are already noted down for episodes of their own!
Thanks for this Jim. It was nice to get some insight into the motivation and such behind the channel. If you want to release hour long videos, I am so here for it. Oh!, And congrats on the 10k subs, richly deserved.
Hull is so blessed with a rich history
Congratulations, Jim! I have really enjoyed your channel as it keeps me happily reminded of my youth in Hull & Cottingham. Alas, I now live 10,500 Km away & my last holiday in the East Riding was in 2018. Subsequent global events & current exorbitant travel costs has put an end to any travels to your neck of woods for the foreseeable future. Keep up the excellent work! I look forward to your forthcoming videos.
Thank you once again,Mr. Nerd. I'm already looking forward to seeing Froghall Lane.
Best Vlog ending ever. Keep up the videos, they're amazing, and don't deprecate yourself, you're more than good enough to be on TV, far more personable and interesting than a lot of History people on TV who can be very dry and know how to suck the life out of a subject (and yes, some of them are clearly madder than a box of frogs).
Knew i was a nerd, didn't realise how much until i watched your vids. Really enjoy what you do, keep them coming in the same style please, don't change.
Congratulations Jim....and Neil Oliver can only dream of such a gig these days.
As to your delivery style.... It's so charming and unassuming, your so obviously from Hull.... Thank you for your efforts.
I'd be delighted if some Ravenser related history were to resurface from the depths of the Humber.
P.s hope you caught my good side whilst filming last week. 🤪👍
Funnily enough I do have an episode planned on Ravenser Odd! Hopefully should be getting out there this spring to film that one!
congratulations! I've really enjoyed following your Hull history series so far and it's been great showing my 5 year old how the area used to look. The passion you have for the subject is honestly infectious
Well done on reaching the 10000 milestone Jamie, I’m looking forward to your video ‘roadmap’ I hope I can make one of your Rooted in Hull talks in the future 😊
Keep an eye on my Facebook and Twitter feeds, I always update those when I get the dates for any public talks!
So glad you're doing some videos on the Harrying of the North. Scarborough was wiped off the map during Domesday and all of the Norths influence and power was transferred to the south east where it remains. Looking forward to everything you have in the pipeline and congratulations on 10k and thanks for your continued hard work.
Yeah, it's a huge thing, a Norman genocide of northerners. Had a massive impact for centuries in many places!
Well done on 10k subscribers I've learnt so much about the city I grew up in also added to what I already knew put more meat on the bone's as they say. Also awakened my interest in old railways as a side note I got to make a delivery to South cave station the other day very interesting the owner let me have a look at the old platform even though it's covered over you can still see the platform stones were the platform edge was and got a look at the old goods yard as well . Keep up the good work look forward to seeing more
I wait with baited breath for more of your entertaining videos…bring em on 😁
wonderful! looking forward to your new videos..thank you.
I really enjoy your videos and I have no link to Hull. I have only driven through on my way to Whitby ( the long way around ) Thank you for bringing the town alive.
Jamie, bloody good content Sir! I am kicking my channel up the rear and wil be exploring all manner of places in Yorkshire! All of your videos are golden! Thanks! look forward to more!
Wonderful! I'm particularly looking forward to the De la Pole family and thier red brickwork works.. Works for me! Also Beverley should be a hoot, as I was born and raised there, and as you say it's got more than its share of history. Nice one Jamie! 🌟👍
Congratulations on 10k Jim thoroughly enjoyed the the half hour. Looking forward to seeing the up and coming videos.
Nice one - I’ve really enjoyed your videos so far, keep them coming! PS Lol at Neil Oliver …😁
If you ever get chance it would be interesting to here about the railway that was never built and why that would have left the Beverley line and ran out into Holderness past Routh. Great to hear that there are more videos to come. All the best 🇬🇧.
I would love to, I need to find some good sources of info on the North Frodingham light railway but so far I've found nothing!
Great to hear Martin Zero Geoff Marshall etc prompted you to make videos I enjoy all of these and many others like Jago Hazard in London ascso much derelict land or old buildings disappearing fast under concrete !!!! As I live near London Docklands and my late wife lived right in Docklands virtually up against the Dock Wall so told me much background.
Congratulations Jamie on your 10,000 milestone, and a fair reflection on the quality of your videos. Having walked the course of the infilled Foredyke Stream from North Bridge, now a wonderful green corridor, can't wait to watch the upcoming episode!
Love the channel, I grew up on orchard Park and when I was a kid where tesco us on hall road there was old fairground stuff in the field.also off danepark Road there was grave stones in the fields
I also grew up on orchard park we lived in Hardane I remember finding grave stones as well In the fields often wondered where they came from?
I have downloaded and made your videos into a gift for my parents and grandad, who are all pretty old, well into their sixties, and will love them. Their cup will runneth over. I hope you don't mind. I will, with your blessing, continue to add to their vids, as and when you bring them out.
Not a problem, hope they enjoy them!
Brilliant as always. Thank you.
I love your videos and look forward to seeing you. I wish more people knew about your videos because they are missing out.
Love your videos.Very professional and a lot better than some present day TV presenters.
Well done and thank you for your docs, really great. Not sure why but no ones mentioned your shirt and tie combo.....stunning!
Cheers! One of my favourite shirts, and certainly one of my favourite ties!
Good for you! I think the first video that popped up in my feed was the one about fish dock and I swiftly caught up with all the other ones and here I am...lots to look forward to by the sound of it
Congratulations! Very happy to see your subscribers grow and grow - you deserve it. Excellent content 😊
I think your videos deserve more than the 10000 subscribers, fantastic content ! I'm looking forwards to more on the Hull & Barnsley line, I have covered a few locations of the line on my channel , more on the Drax side of the line, some videos on my channel show these. Keep up the good work 👍
You deserve every subscriber Jamie. You do sterling work...
Reminds me of something that was "Jerry Built". A corruption of Jury Rig; a quickly fabricated temporary structure. As a child I always thought it odd that Germans would build something in England. Kids eh? We believe owt we're told....
Hi! Thanks for doing these videos! It's so good to learn about the old city and the surrounding areas. When you do your video on Wilberforce I can thoroughly recommend William Hagues biography. Looking forward to more!! 😊
Very very glad you have reached 10k followers - keep up the excellent work - really looking forward to your new stuff
Really love your channel and look forward to more super interesting content from the HHN in the future. Keep up the good wuuurk.
well done and good luck for the future. I love your style and commentary; despite some small blips, makes it real and interesting. I'm a Londoner and knew absolutely nothing about Kingston upon Hull but your videos are so warming and easy to watch that i do know Hull as much as London now! can't wait for more............
Cheers, and I do hope you subscribe to Jay Foreman and Jago Hazzard; their London history videos are fantastic!
Well done hull history nerd. Saw you the other day down keldgate in Cottingham. Good stuff mate. Brian
Well done. Better than most tv 👍
Look forward to your new videos buddy, keep up the good work 👍
I look forward to your new videos, you said you’re going to do Hedon , 30 years ago, I used to live in the village of sproatlay
Congrat's on 10K from one of your first ones , HnB HnB lol , this vlog and your plans are OH YES !!!! still a few bits to cover in your area , Zep wrecks in Hull , WW2 aircraft listening dishes ,Leven history etc'etc but they will be amazing as usual , here's to the next 100K
Brilliant stuff all round, docks and railways prob most interesting, for me. Spent 3 years in Hull in 60's at School of Architecture, fascinating city & history. Leisure? Hull FC, City, Hull K R in rotation, happy days.
A work colleague at work recommended you about November time last year, and the docks were my first series. Unfortunately you've done so many I've been tapping on others at the same time then forgetting where I was so I've no decided to stop messing around and stay with one series at a time.
But I may have just recently watched the Sculcoates video though oooops
But congratulations for the 10k subs and many more to come
Welcome to the channel, and don't worry, even at a rate of two a month, you'll soon catch up!
A history of waterworks / pumping stations in and around Hull would be interesting.
You get get special mirrors for autocues on tablets. You mount them in front of the camera lens with the tablet facing up. It then gets reversed on a 45º two way mirror so you can see it. The camera looks straight through the mirror too. The pro studios have been using these for years.
All of which is great until you realise that I'm not a team, I'm just one person and I'm not going to drag all that equipment on a location shoot on my own! I don't even set up or bring my separate monitor to location shoots these days, I just use hyperfocal ranges to keep me in focus. Got to travel light when you're a one-person operation!
Anyway, I've adapted to just talking off the cuff around the scripts' points anyway, it works much better and, for better or worse, it's more me talking to the camera than me reading a script!
@@hullhistorynerd Nice one
Look forward to your future videos ❤
I would be really interested in learning about the Hull accent and people. I'm from Hull but live in Sheffield now I hear a distinct difference in both accents. I would love to know how our accent has come about.
Also, how about doing something on Hull Fair. I think the whole of Hull and surroundings have such a soft spot for Hull Fair. Although I don't live in Hull I made sure my son didn't miss out on this local and historical spectacle.
It would be brilliant to know about the really early origins of Hull, the Romans, the Vikings etc.
And I totally disagree. You are television material!! Hence the 10,000 subscribers. Congratulations!! I love your channel and always share your videos.
Looking forward to the videos to come.
I always mean to do a Hull Fair episode, and forget until it's too late! This year, I'll get it though.
Interestingly enough, I've been thinking about an episode on the Hull accent, trying to figure out what sort of shape an episode on that might take. Watch this space...
@@hullhistorynerd brilliant!!! Thank you. I also think we've got a certain personality in Hull and a terrific sense of humour. I think Hull people are a bit eccentric and always look for the funny side in every situation. 😊
You mentioned about doing other cities in the future that would be interesting. I think you would find Durham interesting from Hadriens wall to Beamish museum to the Cathedral in Durham where apparently you could request sanctuary and they still have the famous door knocker. But I suppose we have a lot of interesting history in all our cities and it would be a massive challenge to do most of them. Good luck in the future and looking forward to more content 😁
Exactly, they're all fascinating, and they all have their own character and story to tell!
Congratulations on all your followers! Love your content 💓 Looking forward to seeing your new content ☺️
Grats on the 10k subs bud. Its well earned!
Besides, you do history videos in areas I still have a very strong attachment to. I used to live in the area around Hull not once but twice.
I used to call Hull "home" once upon a time. :)
Still. your achevmment is very well earned!. I hope you get lots more subs. you've more then earned it :)
Hi Jim, I personally love your vlogs especially the east park one
Doesn’t sound much like a holiday in Wales!! But sounds great - well done on the 10k subscribers, and I look forward to seeing what you do next :-)
I'm sure we'll find some time to relax. I hope...
Congratulations reaching 10k and anyone who mentions Sir Rob Hubbard deserves a thumb! Hope you went to the city hall concert. I guess a history of British chip music would be too recent and niche ;) like others I’d love an episode on Hull Fair or a piece on the blitz - location of AA guns in the city, the lost buildings and the fake port of hull. Keep up the fab work.
Oh man, now you've done it... the history of British C64 music... I'm going to be stirring that idea round now to see what I can do with it!
Also, check my back catalogue of videos - I've already done an episode on the Decoy Docks!
Always a pleasure to watch your latest piece Jim. Particular pleasure learning of your plans and very best wishes for the future.
Well done 10.000 subscribers is well deserved.
I honestly enjoy your videos, always look forward watching them.
Neil is a Stirling man as am I, see him a lot round town a really nice guy. He does raise some very though provoking material.
Again Well done 👏
Agree with you on Rob Hubbard .
His music is superb
Delta (in-game) and the Sanxion loader.... every time.
Videos on the local seaside towns would be immensely interesting. Hornsea, Withernsea etc
Watch this space...
Congratulations on your 10,000. My favorites are your railways, docks and WW2 until your video I didn't know there was a dummy Hull. Would love to see you do Yorkshires war factories and airfields of WW2, lost industry of Yorkshire and canals of Yorkshire.
Probably won't be touching the airfields as military history isn't really my thing, but I've got my eye on doing a lost canal video this year...
Brilliant videos. Learnt so much about local history from them. Massive fan of your collection of shirts :)
I really, really like paisley. I'm actually thinking about doing a video on the history of the pattern because it's actually very very old and interesting!
Congratulations on a great milestone. Well deserved. Excited to see the future content. I grew up playing down the tenfoots around Welwyn Park Ave. Loads of old air raid shelters were still present in many people's back gardens. Would love if you could squeeze something about this area into one of your videos.
Hope you get to Thorngumbald! Would love to hear more about the origins of the village and its name.
Nice one, or 10,000' Congratulations
well done on your subscriber count mate. good to see a fellow ULL lad doing well... I got chuffed at hitting 45 subs lol... looking forward to the dock videos...👍
Well done that man, love the channel. Will you be doing anything on Spring Cottage? I went up there to reminisce, I was astounded to see how much it's grown since the 70s. The bottom of Stromness way used to be open fields. I always wondered why the hill on Dalsetter Rise exists, I mean Hull is so flat, It used to be a magnet for driving instructors for the teaching of hill starts.
No plans at the moment, but I keep getting new ideas for videos all the time, so I'm sure I will get around to it eventually :)
I saw HHN a couple of weeks ago sauntering down Northgate!
Congratulations on the subscriber milestone. I've found your videos very fascinating. Love learning about the local area and its history. Can't wait for future videos
Congrats on 10k mate, you deserve it 👍
Superb work,i tkank you so much
I know the Subscriber milestone scripts and the comment section too is usually a lot of regurgitated dribble about gratitude but you really do deserve each and every subscriber and I just wish there was more than one of you so we could have more HHN!
Also, I know the opportunity does not present itself often, what with the subject matter usually being the suffering of the working classes and all, but you really could rely a lot more on your wit and humour in general to carry videos! This was great!
You are amazing and 10thousand is just step 1
Watched a few shall catch up and subscribe, and a watch a few more.looking forward to one on civil war 😉. Salty end record profits for B.P we know the score
Congratulations 10k quite an achievement. Looking forward to the videos
Well done on 10k. Really enjoy your videos.
Congratulations!
Congratulations on 10000 subscribers. I enjoy your videos.
Many thanks for all your work, I naturally look forward to seeing your take on York at some point.
U do provide excellent quality work ,nice vlog 🎉
Congratulations on 10k
Congratulations on reaching the 10K milestone. Its a credit to your engaging but highly informative style that so many folk are into Hull's history. I really appreciate the emphasis on railway and industrial history and your, shall we say, social conscience, also shines through.
Keep up the great work, fascinating stuff!
Well done on the vlog Jamie, very entertaining and a well deserved 10'000. Looking forward to what's to come. Regards from Bridlington.
many congrats mate.. you've done so well. brilliant channel :)
Cheers!
Well done 👍
Well done young man. Good luck with your projects. Looking forward to the sculcoates lost village detail.
Why do we do it to ourselves? Nostalgia can be quite depressing. I found myself in 2018 in the Lifestyle Museum and was gripped by a sudden sense of loss. I remarked as much to Alan our long time friend, who doesn't seem as afflicted as I. It was quite debilitating, this yearning for some nebulous intangible facet of the past. And yet, for myself, I keep doing it. "Hull, the Good Old Days", my favourite go-to. HHN, another must watch. We must be gluttons for punishment. Never quite figured it out, why we put ourselves through the sometimes emotional pain of loss when we intentionally visit the past. It's an itch that can never be scratched, like a gambling or drug addiction...
Is it a "previous life reincarnation" thing if such is possible? Dunno, but I've cogitatated the idea for many of my 75 years....
Congratulations on you 10k ! I have been watching your channel over the past half year and find your pieces so interesting and easy to watch due to your manner and levels of resarch . I'm hull through and through and have learned so much about our history through your efforts .... thankyou ! . I recently had my sister visit from Scotland , she left hull in 1998 so during her visit this time fancied a "wander" around the city center to relight old memories . Using knowledge gained through yourself the day was a lot more interesting than a wander around prinny quay and a bag of chips from carvers ! . Whilst in the trinity indoor market there was a setup in place next to the seating area Informing the public about the old castle and it's recent archeology, and that an informative artwork/ historical piece has been given the go ahead on the footprint of the last remaining tower from the castle! ... thought this was exellent for hull's history and will definitely be keeping an eye on that . Thankyou once again , and thankyou for making my sisters and myself's day a lot more fun and interesting than ever previously experienced through the passing of your knowledge and efforts 😁
Really enjoy your videos - and that's coming from a hardcore Yellowbelly! Feel free to wander south of the Humber anytime... there's some fascinating old Railways in Grimsby and Immingham waiting to be explored..!!
Definitely on the cards, I have to say - I may well be visiting the Scunthorpe Steel works railway at some point this year!
Thanks for the excellent answer!! I’m genuinely amazed by Hulls History
Top notch stuff
You need to plug yourself/videos on look north with Peter levy 👍... your subscriptions would go through the roof!..... Keep up the brilliant work... you're legendary 👌👍....also, how about the history and research of Haworth house on the banks of the river hull, problem being I think it's now private residence or flats but it's been there for years always scared me as a kid as it was empty when I was young, well at least I thought it was? and I always thought it was haunted!
Enjoyed that 😊
