Could you get a bigger compliment from a man? If something ever happened to me and my wife I would want you to raise my kids? Wow. Such a class act. Love Ken Griffey Jr.
That's a hell of a compliment to receive. Especially said in front of thousands Had no idea Junior and Jay were so close. Loved Griffey growing up, every kid that grew up in the late 90s/early 00s did. That N64 game is still one of my favorite baseball games of all time
Wow. I never knew Junior & Buhner were that close. That's quite a thing to say about somebody, that you would trust them to raise your children in your place, powerful.
Griffey is a class act, he wanted to retire as a Mariner. And when he left us it was because he wanted to play at home in Cincinnati, it was never about the money but it was about his family. I hope the players we have now can learn from him and are learning from him, we love you Ken!!!!
Yeah he was following his heart though I always wished he’d have always realized it was in Seattle he was his happiest and stayed but you only have one career and he’d always have a regret of not being a Red
@@alwillk I get you it could be the fact he grew up in a household where being amongst the best players in the world had a part in it like Bonds and I was kind of annoyed at his attitude about signing autographs and the stories of fans who meet him in person and walk away heartbroken; while still young he was being touted as the anointed one who would be the face of baseball though the real man was far from the image baseball tried to make him be
Hey Jr. I know you will never read this but you have no idea how proud this kid from NY chose you as his idol growing up. Thank you for being the perfect icon for a kid. Staying clean and playing ball hard.
Man me and my brother loved this guy. My brother had a life size cardboard cut out of him in his room. Footlocker had it up and my mom asked if we could have it when they where done using it and they agreed. Wish we still had it.
"We are different on so many levels".If I can disagree.Different outwardly, but not inwardly where it counts.Love, kindness ,respect, and so many other good things.
Such class act and high praise u can give another man. U can tell Jr meant it too. He almost choked up as he was saying it. And lol at Jay giving him the middle finger for making him cry 😂😂 s
+TheCodedtestament Agreed. I'm a Giants fan and grew up worshipping Bonds and Griffey. Even though I should be happy that a Giant is the home run king, I wish it had been Griffey instead. It would not have been tainted.
We all know racism exists in a lot of people. It’s across all races but we aren’t racist like the media try’s making it out to be. I have black friends and we all respect each other the same and get mad at each other the same . Have had alot arguments with them and not once did any of us bring up race. Just what we was mad about or whatever the issue was. What I can say as that at the end of the day when push cokes to shove regardless right or wrong, they have my back and I have there’s. That’s what friends do . We as a society can do better and it takes U.S. average people To stop this hype that the media is portraying. Until we as nation and individuals take back our country from these damn liberals trying to destroy our country and the fabric of this nation otherwise we are on a path of destruction that’s only going to get worse.
He is the one athlete that it always makes me feel old to see now. He is only a couple of years older than me, but I will always remember him as the fresh-faced 19-year old kid that came up when his father was still playing. I see him now in his mid-40s and it's like "how the %%%% did that happen?"
Michael Leite True. It's nothing more than an educated guess on my part. In today's "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" society, there will always be plenty of doubters. But for now, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt: Small guy who just-so-happened to have an amazing swing and a great glove.
I love that man. He is the reason I fell in love with baseball. I've been a Mariners fan since 1995. Junior is a guy that did it right. No juicing, no trouble, just hard work and a natural talent. It's a shame that he doesn't have a World Series ring, but it's okay. Many that do will never reach the Hall of Fame. And not with a 99% ballot vote.
I grew up near Cleveland during the 90s Indians, but I had a Griffey jersey in my collection. He is the reason I really became a fan, and love the game to this day.
I just love Edgar Martinez's look on his face @ 1:53 -- That man cannot be arrested in Seattle; he was truly my favorite Mariners player from that generation....
As a lifelong fan of the game of baseball, I am so grateful for Ken Griffey Jr, and even more grateful for being lucky enough to be one of the many chosen to witness the GREATNESS that was Ken Griffey Junior, playing the game we fans all know and love so much

Just best friends being best friends. Only the media reminds us of racism. We brothas and sistas love each other for us, it’s the lower class vs the elite.
Not many ball players hold the level of integrity that Griffey Jr. had. No doubt he is a legend! I looked up to him as a ball player growing up, and look up to him now as a human being..
In my opinion, the most underrated human being in all of sports history. And to say Ken Griffey Jr. is underrated is a stretch, but he is just that good on and off the field.
***** That's one of the most ignorant statements I have read in a while. Ty Cobb would have been an amazing hitter in today's game. Here is my evidence. Ty Cobb lead the league in batting average 12 seasons. TWELVE. Do you know what the average MLB batting average is today? .253. In 1910 the league average was .249…Want to know what Ty Cobb batted that year? .388. Ty Cobb would have access to the same weight training, muscle rehabilitation therapy, and nutritionists as today's players if he had played today. Hell, under those conditions he might have batted .400 multiple seasons in today's game. I rest my case.
***** I've seen his swing. It looks a lot like that of Tony Gwynn. Listen, Ty Cobb played in the middle of the dead ball era. He wasn't trying to hit home runs. No one could hit home runs back then. The ball parks were enormous, and the balls wouldn't fly. That said, with that supposedly junky swing of his he lead baseball in home runs in 1909. Your notion that batters back then only hit slow fastballs is ridiculously misinformed. The spitball wasn't banned until 1920. By then Cobb had played 15 seasons in the big leagues. He faced all types of wicked junk that guys today are not allowed to do with the ball. Would Cobb have been a power hitter in today's game like Griffey was? No. But I maintain that he would have hit .400+ in multiple seasons. His coordination was superior in that respect.
In 1910 MLB hitters batted .249 collectively. The only guy batting close to .400 was Ty Cobb who hit .388 that season. I don't know what else you want to hear. The numbers support my argument.
Cobb would not be hitting .400 in any seasons today. There is a reason why it's so hard for players to do that in today's game... you're forgetting two VERY important things... First: starting pitchers back then would pitch complete games very often ... so Cobb would have the luxury of seeing the same pitcher 4-5 times in a game. So would everyone else in the league and they didn't hit as good as Cobb (you might say)... true, but you have to remember, I'm not saying Cobb isn't a good player and wouldn't hit over .300 in today's game. PLUS other guys were hitting .400 back then, so yeah. Second: Today's game has specialty pitchers.... David Ortiz's stats would be LEGENDARY if he was able to face a right handed pitcher (or even just the same pitcher for that matter) for 4-5 AB in a game. And although Cobb's average vs. lefties is well above .300, it's still less than vs. righties, and Cobb very rarely had to worry about hitting in the 7th inning against a specialty left handed pitcher after facing a right handed starting pitcher. One other thing too: There have only been two other guys to have hit over .400 since 1925... don't you think that's not a coincidence? It is harder to be a hitter in today's game. Which I guess is what my argument is all about... because I do know that Cobb is an amazing player and belongs in the list of names above.
Growing up in the Northwest, he was the man and was as big a celebrity as anyone here in the 90s. Still the prettiest home run swing I've ever seen. Easily a first ballot hall of famer and a guy that never cheated and did it all the right way.
Being a Reds fan and a Cincinnati native, I loved Griffey Jr as a kid. When he got to the Reds in 2000, I like every other person in Cincinnati was so excited to have the hometown kid come home. He achieved his career milestones in a Reds uniform, but Griffey will always be remembered as a Mariner. The bond he had with Jay and the organization in Seattle isn't even comparable to what he had here in Cincinnati. I'm probably the only person in Cincinnati that is glad he's going into the HoF as a Mariner.
You are a true fan. I was heartbroken when he went to the Reds, but if he'd managed to win a Series there, I'd have been wearing red and cheering my ass off. That's how much I adored him. So proud of him.
I played with him in 1990. Then I didn't see him again till 1996, when I was with the Red Sox. He was doing some Griffey for president commercial on the field. He saw me and told everyone to hold on a second, and yelled my name. I went down there & he remembered my wife's name and my kids names, I was amazed.... Class Act
Ken Griffey Jr...Enjoy your retirement... You helped electrify the game over the course of your career, and will always be regarded as a very very special person and player.
growing up, i looked up to griffey....i wanted to play center field and bat clean up. but i ended up plying second base and batting lead off. but in my 12 years of playing baseball, the one man i tried my hardest to model myself after was ken griffey jr. the greatest PURE hitter ever....my idol.....THE KID!!!
Amazing, the most talented player I've ever had the joy to see play. I only own one baseball jersey and it's number 24 from the Mariners. P.S. I had no idea he and Jay were so close, beautiful speech.
Taken away all the injuries in his career ....he would of ,without a doubt, hold the home run record in major league baseball....no steriods...no nothing....jusy pure gift and talent...my favorite player of all time KGJ...
Most beloved baseball player of all time. Nobody deserved to get into the hall of hame except ken griffey i dont care about ya'lls opinions I love ken griffey jr too much
Even though I have always been a Cardinals, Junior was probably my favorite player to watch play in my junior high and high school years. Probably one of the most well rounded players ever.
To be an obvious undisputed 1st ballot Hall Of Famer, while being all natural, playing in the steroid era, with the most beautiful swing I've seen in my 45 years of life... There is no doubt, Ken Griffey Jr., would be an absolute legend in ANY era of baseball. Ken Griffey Jr. should be in the Mt. Rushmore conversation of ALL sports, with: Jordan, Gretzky, Phelps, Tiger. There are only 4 spots, but #3 and #4 are arguable to me, after Jordan and Tiger @ #1 & #2, respectively. (Usain Bolt's dominant career puts near my top 5 as well, but I don't quite think Bolt makes my Rushmore). Shower thoughts: _Imagine if KGJ juiced! Dude would've obliterated every offensive record in existence. He would've had hacked created player stats..._
Could you get a bigger compliment from a man? If something ever happened to me and my wife I would want you to raise my kids? Wow. Such a class act. Love Ken Griffey Jr.
No there’s officially no bigger compliment on the planet. There can’t be ❤
Show's true friendship almost like brothers. Class act

👍 grew up watching Ken Sr. along with Pete Rose... Glad to see Jr accomplish much in MLB
He had the greatest swing in baseball.
yes
No, the greatest swing belonged to Darryl Strawberry. Junior had his head on straight, though.
Mene Tekel hand down the best swing of all time
Hell yeaaaaaaaaa
Greatest stance*
Griffey is one of the best ever, and did it clean. I got into baseball in his rookie year actually and saw his whole career, an amazing talent.
Wow. I never knew Junior & Buhner were that close. That's quite a thing to say about somebody, that you would trust them to raise your children in your place, powerful.
Ok, let's say that Griffey took roids and wasn't injury prone. This dude would've been the only player to eclipse the 800 club.
Those injuries saved his career from any suspicion
i give u that
No please do not associate Jr with roids that he didn’t use is a big reason why I admire him immensely above any other MLB player
Besides Sadaharu Oh
No greater compliment a man can get than that……bravo, Jay!
man. what a compliment. to say you'd let him raise your kids. you can't have a better compliment in life than that. good for Jay buhner!
Griffey is a class act, he wanted to retire as a Mariner. And when he left us it was because he wanted to play at home in Cincinnati, it was never about the money but it was about his family. I hope the players we have now can learn from him and are learning from him, we love you Ken!!!!

That middle finger, shows true love!
This speech is reason number 6,374 why The Kid is my favorite Non-Yankee of all time.
He should’ve been a Yankee 😢

That is the biggest compliment a man can give another man..."if i cant do it, then i trust you with my kids"
Thanks for the post. I look forward to your full recording. Thanks again.
You're the best, Junior!!!
