People who never watch him in his prime will never understand the incredible aura this man had in the 90’s. He was the coolest guy in baseball at the time. Griffey with the backwards cap was iconic
Literally one of my 1st memories was almost catching a Griffey HR at the Kingdome. He literally had everything youd want in a player. Including a healthy hate of the Yankees.
The most mind blowing thing about Griffey Jr. is that he's one of the biggest "what if" athletes of all time, yet he is still one of the GOAT's with a hall of fame career. 10 Gold Gloves with 630 HR's and he was injured ALL the time. The man missed, I want to say, 2.5 seasons worth of games in his prime. If he stayed healthy, he would have passed Hank Aaron's record by a mile. He was the single most talented baseball player to ever play the game. Ohtani is the closest thing we've had since.
BWAHHHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! It's already been projected and the numbers estimated (and they even gave him a few extra) and he would have barley broke 700 , with the gifted extra hrs he would had they say approx 722. Nowhere near 755 and don't even mention the kings 762
Ken Griffey Jr in my opinion is the greatest player to ever play. The man had (and still honestly) the most pure and sweetest swing I’ve ever seen period. No one can argue that for sure. He was phenomenal in the field, he was a beast at the plate and Junior anywhere on the field was the definition of swag. My all time favorite baseball player, my all time favorite athlete and my childhood hero. As a kid who grew up in the Seattle area during the 90’s, it was a blessing to have to privilege of being able to watch Ken Griffey Jr play baseball for my team in real time. There will never be another Junior.
Ken Griffey Jr. Is my favorite player of all time. I've been wearing number 30 for all sports since freshman year of high school in 2002. It's cool being 35 years old wearing number 30 in my softball league. Then looking back at high school photos of me in high school (basketball/baseball) wearing #30
Very few baseball prospects live up to the hype, when that 1989 Upper Deck card hit the streets back then he was instantly iconic and he lived up to it.
I wasn’t around for guys like Mays or Aaron, or obviously guys like Babe Ruth or Ted Williams, but Ken Griffey Jr is the best baseball player I’ve ever seen in my lifetime
when your career has a big "what if" yet your career stat is something only a few people in history ever achieved, that tells you how great Griffey Jr is.
Ken Griffey Jr. is without a doubt the single greatest all-around player in baseball history and without the injuries would have easily gone down as the greatest of all time. He literally has the highest hall of fame voting percentage margin of all time
Whoever the sports writer was that did not vote Griffey in his inaugural Hall of Fame year should be stripped of his voting privileges for being either incompetent or downright spiteful because he or she let their emotions get in their way of making a logical, baseball decision. You have to believe it was a writer from New York, huh! Lmao 🤣
@Reese8531 is he had stayed healthy then there is no question he would be unanimously considered the greatest all-around player to ever step foot on a baseball field
@Reese8531 I personally don't care that much about the steroid talks in baseball cause it's not a physical sport. In things like football, wrestling, mma it is a serious issues but in non contact sports I really don't think it's that big of a deal
Seeing Griffey do the things he did was truly amazing. He's literally eight months younger than me so it was incredibly cool to see somebody from our generation doing the things he was doing at the forefront. I think him coming out years later talking about his depression and talking about how hard things are when you're that age and you've got a ton of money and fame it doesn't necessarily make you happy to see how Junior is now the love he has for his family Wife children and the love he has for his former teammates in Seattle and Cincinnati truly one of a kind.
I lived in Louisville, KY when Jr. was on The Reds. Their Minor League Team, The Riverbats, play(ed?) in Louisville. I once saw both Griffey and Deion Sanders play for them in the one game I went to. Hadn't realized either one even played for The Reds! 🤯🤯😂
I'm a Red Sox fan through and through but watching Junior play when I was a kid made him one of my favorite players of all time. Truly an absolute gem of a player. I really wish he wasn't so injury prone so we could've seen the numbers he could have topped.
The backwards hat in the home run derby was the epitome of cool , if you don’t know look it up. The later home run derbies he was surrounded by roided up no neck monsters who could hit homers with half check swings but JR and that beautiful swing was almost poetic. Perfect would be the best description
Griffey owned Barry Bonds. Bonds grew 5 shoe sizes and his neck is as big around as his head. Bagwell, Palmero, Canseco, BONDS....juiced up. McGuire, Sosa....juice...A-Rod, juice. Ken Griffey Jr. could have elevated above Bonds and healed supernaturally too...if he had the juice. He would have stayed uninjured, and Barry Bonds would have been in awe and wonder. Barry would have been scared. Bonds was a pipsqueak, he even talked like a little kid. He acted like a jacka**, Griffey was not only better than Bonds, he was a better person than Bonds.
Everyone I played with in the late 90s wanted to be Ken Griffey Jr. The low and away fastball was what we all hoped for every time we came to the plate, just for a chance to take the slow walk to first like him.
I will say it to the day I die If he never had all the injuries Ken Griffey Jr would have the best numbers we have seen from a human on the baseball field and that's a f****** fact not an opinion just look at his numbers and look at the time he had off due to injury
Ken Griffey Jr. was almost built in a lab to play baseball. and when he didn't accept the new lab offering (steroids) he got nothing but punished for it. it is sad to see someone's body just absolutely failing them.

Watching the Kid, made me love baseball, he's still the reason I watch to this day. All the stars I know of now, I'm comparing them too Ken Griffey Jr. He's still my GOAT

To be clear I do not suspect that he ever used PEDs, but the fact is that we really don’t know who did and who didn’t (with a few exceptions of course). Griffey’s clean and charismatic image serves as the perfect “anti-PED” hero for fans of that era to gravitate toward, but I’d stop at saying he “probably didn’t” use them. We all want it to be true, but that’s not evidence of it being true, just as it’s the case that fan speculation about players who did use PEDs isn’t good evidence of anything either.
There is some evidence. Apparently some guys like Sammy Sosa kept needing bigger helmets every year, which is a sign of HGH usage. And then of course there are guys like Barry Bonds who had a spike in home run production and gained a lot of muscle. Griffey was always lean, his body never changed, and his production was consistent throughout his career, until he got injured of course.
@@ErikDayne for sure there’s plenty of evidence suggesting certain guys used PEDs. I’m just pointing out that absence of that evidence (in Griffey’s case) is not evidence of absence. It just sucks that the narrative for that whole era is stained with this crap and guys aren’t getting into the HoF. Then again I’m one of those people who thinks we should just put em all in the HoF if they performed to that standard and include a little asterisk if you need to. Griffey kept on getting injuries like hamstring issues and the like that steroids would have covered up. Barry bonds was 40+ and immensely bigger in mass then he ever was when he was young, not to mention as soon as he retired he needed knee surgery on atleast one of his legs meaning the dude was playing on crippled legs at 40 because the roids were allowing him to do so.

@@michaelkane5042 Steroid use causes injuries like hamstring issues too. I'd be a bigger believer if his best HR years didn't exactly line up with the steroid years
Black people own sports
Elected to the Hall of Fame, not elected in...good video..keep it up
I could say I seen him hit a homerun against my White Sox very close distance
.....junior could of used a corked bat unbeknownst to MLB his entire career!!! Stealing signs has more retribution than steroid use in MLB!! Being Black was considered cheating in MLB's history.... What set Junior apart from his peers was.... JUNIOR WAS SMOOOOTH, SOOOOO SMOOOTH 😮
all eras have been on some sort of performance enhancer
Yes. Cheetahs do stretch before catching their pray.
That spiderman catch was against Ruben Sierra not Kevin Baas
If he was not plaqued by injuries he would easily have 800 homers
Love how you threw brady Anderson under the bus when he never took roids🤨
His 96 season is beyond suspect compared to his career. I'm sure if it were tested as heavy and often as in today's game. He would have definitely been flagged for testing and I doubt he would have passed. But. Aye not everyone gets caught aye
This is like the opposite of bronny James jr
Griffey scored from first on the Edgar double in the 11th inning............Not the 9th.
We don’t know Griffey didn’t juice.
