I just bought a 1986. You do not know how indebted I am to you for walking around this recording it. I replaced all the outside bearings and I have new belts. My transmission was empty but seems to be in good shape except all the seals. I painted the whole deck and underneath. I will soon paint the engine.
I came across this exact same mower at the curb and grabbed it. I got it to run again and should have just flipped it as everything basically works. I couldn't leave well enough alone so now I'm in the process of doing most of the same things you are and this video has been extremely helpful. I wasn't too familiar with this kind of set up but it really doesn't seem to bad once you get familiar with how it works. Thanks, now I'm going to spend some time and money on it!
Nice work, enjoyed the video. However; you mentioned that it doesn’t seem to have much power and I hear the engine running low rpms while you’re testing it cutting grass towards the end. Try adjusting the throttle/governor linkage so it turns at least 3400 RPM as it should at wide open throttle and I’m sure the power will be more than adequate. Love these old Snappers!
Fill and go oil is very similar to all the auto manufacturers that are running "lifetime" fluid, mostly in transmissions and PTUs/transfer cases, and transmissions that need the case split to swap a filter. They can't wait for it to fail so they can quote you a replacement part that's so overpriced that you're more likely to crush the car and buy a new one. A small engine can run damn near forever - usually a deck would rot out before you'd buy a mower. Now they're trying to melt down your engine in 5 years so you keep coming back for more retail therapy.
I have one of these exact mowers. The engine has no compression now. I lost the bagger attachment. But I love how that thing cut. The only complaint when using, the handles should be a little longer. I hate the new handle that come with new cords.
Tyler I got a Snapper with a solid rubber wheel. I got some of the wheels for commercial Snappers. I was wondering if they fit on?. The rubber wheel that touches drive disc is 42.00 now. Just thinking. My self into another project.
I have similar mower, just broke the spring that is on the self propel cable. Do you have a video already showing how to fix this? I know it's probably easy, but just would like a visual before I try it myself. Snapper is model p21407t but appears to be very similarly made to your 1989!
Back when Snapper made little mini tanks that would last forever! Since they (and Murray) became part of Briggs and Stratton, they have become just cheap plastic junk. Two great old Southern made products that have become a shadow of what they once were.
On never change oil-- This is from pressure from the USA EPA. Electric mowers won't need oil. That is why you can't buy an engine to replace your old one at the Famous Chinese Tool store in your city.....

Great job. I've worked on so many of those Snapper lawn mower and saved them from the trash.
I need a Briggs engine for a Toro self-propelled
Nice you do awesome work.
Thanks for the video. I tuned in to find out what grease goes in the gearbox and learned a lot more. Good job...
Thanks. I was on a mission to find that grease.
YES! The spring tool is worth its weight in gold! Wonderful for drum brakes too.
Great job!
Nice, multi piece info.

Thanks, I'll do that.

Mine has a small wire that I have no idea where it goes but it runs like a champ.
Yeah me too. Someone help us.
@@diegoprado632 Probably the kill wire that ran to the hard chute
I have a snapper mower like that where the drive disc is seized in place on the shaft. I soaked it in penetration oil. Any tricks to break it free.

What is the model number of this Snapper self-propelled mower as I have one almost the same?
A little late to the party. I have the same mower as the one in the video. It's model #21355P
I have Briggs 1986 engine and Snapper model number 21401P

1989 snapper
Dreadful sound. Was the mike broken?
No. It's a GoPro that is mounted in a holder. Something is causing noise. Working on resolution.

Could you make the video larger I can barely see
