    What a treasure this video is! I´d love to see more, remembering "the old days" when you regularly posted lawnmower related videos. Keep up the great work!

    Interesting. You lost me with the carburetor though. I was a crane operator for 21 years but getting stuff fixed is way over my head. It's almost 1:00 in morning and I'm 67 years old. Good video.

    We had this exact model for years! Went to a 90s Snapper commercial with a Kawasaki engine, and now we have a Toro personal pace super recycler. Also have a 90s 52 inch snapper mower, that was used for a lawn care business!

    What a nice find ! From the numbers I saw on the shroud by the muffler it looks like a 1987 ! I bought one these brand new in 1985 self / propelled with the exact same engine on it a 4 hp B&S I got 33 years of mowing out that engine before it dropped a valve ! & I never mowed less than a 1/2 acre with it . I still have the engine , But I was not able to get a rebuild kit for it , So in 2018 I bought a new engine for it ! Since the rest of mower was still in great shape it's a B&S 725EXI Series 163cc engine & I'm still using the mower ! & it's on it's 3rd set of wheels ,2nd blade ,& drive train components & belts! It's cheaper than buying a brand new one that cost almost a grand last time I checked , I also bought a used one in 2019 that is self propelled a 1990 that needed a little work fuel lines & a tune up for just under $ 200.00 bucks with the original engine that runs just fine ! I'm a big fan of Snapper mowers ! & I also have 2 rear engine riders a 1974 Comet Snapper that I bought used in 1988 & put a new engine on in 1996 , & took it out of service in 2020 for a engine rebuild & a complete refurbishment & bought a 2012 in 2019 with a 13.5 B&S engine with a 30 inch deck that needs nothing done to it . B&S owns Snapper mowers now ! Thanks for the video , & save on that Snapper mower it almost looks brand new.

    Snappers were, and still are, one o the best walk behind mowers money can buy. We have been running a lawn service in SE Texas w them since late 70's. The frame will go thru 3 engines before it has to be thrown away, their thick steel, their heavy. I'm building one now for a friend and it will be powered by Subaru. The world's first Subaru Snapper

      Our lawn service still uses them too - since 1982. We have a complete inventory of decks, chutes, blades, bags, wheels, handles and hardware. I just replaced a tired engine with a unused briggs engine from 2014 that some school administrator had been saving in his garage. Except for a couple of idiots who pulled the mower over their toes and a mower that caught on fire I have no complaints. Great mowers for areas inaccesible to bigger machines.

    Nice mowers but I never liked the starter setup on them. The recoil handle always seemed awkward to pull because it’s kind of blocked by the grass catcher. Sure came out nice though! It’s amazing how people can spend so much on a piece of equipment and then completely neglect it like that.

    I love the idea that the factory had a dye with the name SNAPPER machined into it. No cheap decals, no painted on logo. That was when they built machines to last and that pressed logo shows that they took pride in their workmanship.

    Spark plugs don't normally crack and break like that unless they are struck by something. That amount of grass/debris would not cause it to overheat in my experience. In my opinion of working on lawnmowers for over 20 some years is that was struck by something and broke it and it broke the last straw for an excuse to get a new mower. You know a mower they will replace in 2-5 years vs 30 years. LOL. That mower will run forever with some maintenance. Nice video though, keep them coming!

    • @Rustbelt_Research
      @Rustbelt_Research  3 года назад +1

      I have seen spark plugs get so hot the insulators shatter, but I admit. I have never seen it on a small engine.

    • @ACF6180T
      @ACF6180T Год назад

      That plug may have come loose while mowing , & popped out & struct the engine IMHO & that's why it was loose in the engine , They just screwed back in by hand. I wish I had come across this mower.

    Great fine , the old flat head Briggs are the best . Next time take a little sandpaper and dress up the flywheel magnet , and coil if you was too take flywheel off . That starter clutch may need a few drops of oil too next time . Good video , I was trained on these old Briggs 40 years ago .👍

    Great video. Way to rescue a great machine! Just FYI, that’s a 1987, at least the engine is. Briggs stamps the last two numbers of the manufacturing year along with the serial number on the stroud. The year is the first two numbers in the last set of stamped numbers. If that makes sense. Too bad it wasn’t a self-propelled model.

    Nice Fix and clean-up! I have a similar looking model that I believe to be mid 80's that I found at the transfer station. Works OK. Puffs a little smoke on occasion. Have not done much as far as a resto, but your vid gives me incentive!

    The oil residue could have come from the mis installed engine breather causing blowby to cover up the engine and then dust accumulated on it. That's what you get from quality domestic made products. Clean up,/tune up good for another 40 years.

    Did this mower have an attachment meant for mulching leaves. I had a mover like this 20 years ago and it hand this diamond grate attachment that prevented leaves from passing before they were chopped small enough to pass through.
