I'm auditioning for Spartans this year, it's my first year marching, and this was wicked helpful! I kinda guessed and hoped when packing for the first experience camp and had to borrow a fair amount of stuff from the other tuba players because I had no idea what I needed and of course grabbed the things I never ended up needing
I took an air mattress with me my rookie season. It lasted all of spring training but as soon as we hit tour it died. Ended up sleeping on the floor for a solid week and a half before I could get a pad
I watched this video last year when I was dreaming of doing drum corps and I am audition for jersey surf this year so hopefully I will be needing this video
I would suggest you stick to the brass as their snare and quad lines will attract many more persons for very few spots.The moment you tell yourself you are that good on all those instruments ,there will be someone or someones that will cut you down to size.Be careful on what you say, you are still too young to give yourself all of this self adulation.Go to the Devils and they will prove me right!
@@billduncan8788: Don't rain on his parade. Going in with confidence will make the process easier because he won't go in worrying if he's good enough to even be there at all. Having confidence brings out the best audition, as opposed to being so nervous it affects your performance. And while confidence is one thing, arrogance is another. He'll learn soon enough just how good he is or isn't. One thing that always stuck with me over my entire drum corps odyssey was when I was told, "You are always going to be better than some, and there are always going to be some who are better than you".

I’m not sure if your still active on RUclips but I had a question because I’m attending an overnight camp for the first time. My question was when you mean air mattress the one I got has it’s own pump and can be inflated we can use those or does it have to be uninflated I know it might depend on the corps but was curious?
bleachlovercv not entirely sure what you mean, but most people bring and air mattress and a pump but mattresses with built in pumps work well too! Hope this answers your question!
I want to join DCI, but I'm not sure if I should. I'm going into sophomore year in highschool and I just started playing mello because my primary is flute. Would I be good enough?
Haley Svec Hi Haley! Joining DCI is absolutely achievable for a flute player! I started mello when I was going into my sophomore year as well, and marched with Surf the next summer. The year after that I went on to march Bluecoats. It’s totally doable, it just takes hard work and commitment to your goals. Feel free to DM me on Instagram, and we can chat more!
MusicLover 915 I don’t think there is a set minimum age for DCI, but many top corps will not contract younger than 16. That shouldn’t stop you from auditioning though! Staff love to see returning auditionees, it shows that you’re committed and willing to work hard. In the mean time, it’s a good idea to audition for other corps, perhaps open class or DCA. The experience you get marching a summer with any corps is priceless. You’ll have a great time, as well as learn valuable skills for future auditions. What part of the country are you in? I could reccomend a couple of corps for you to look into?
Depends on the corps. At most corps, especially at early season camps, there will be many more people auditioning than there are horns. If you have access to a horn of your own or one from your school, you should definitely bring it.

I’m auditioning for the Blue Devils next year. Haven’t decided what because I can play mellophone, trumpet, snare, and tenors really well.

Classcal3 MKWII yes! I auditioned as a Sophomore then marched Surf, then after my junior year I marched Bluecoats.
