    The way we've always done it, one drives the boat and one grabs the trailer, the one grabbing the trailer gets dropped off at the doc and the boat leaves the doc and stays out of the way waiting for trailer to come down and turn to trailer the boat.

    Is there a fender tax in Florida I’m not aware of, in the UK we would not go near the dock without fenders

    Boat ramps are endless entertainment. We live near one in Seattle, an operator certification state. Two thirds of the “certified captains “ couldn’t find their ass with both hands. The yacht club has more on the ball but every now and then you see a credit card captain that absolutely has no clue. You do see more life jacket use because the water is so cold that you wouldn’t survive for long without one.

    That woman who docked the first boat is very knowledgeable of how a boat works. She made all the right moves and I suspect she could repeat that docking in higher winds and currents, unlike 99% of the Bozos (guys) who don't have a clue.

      This summer, we watched teens/20's staff who worked a boat rental shop pull in and slide in between boats and right to the dock, using that same technique. It was a thing of beauty.

    I watched 3 jet skis pull onto a ramp and the people left them and walked into town in Fairport Ohio. Things got real crazy real fast as the fisherman want in and out clean on the ramps with no screwing around.

    I don't understand the ignorance of some people to not only run a ski onto a concrete loading/unloading ramp (gelcoat, hello? You're effing it up!!) but to just block the ramp like you own it. Get your truck & trailer and have it at the ready, load and split out of there!!

    I use a small marina near our home to get to my happy place.
    On a recent Friday, I pulled in with a friend and saw a big truck with an empty trailer on the ramp. I went in and paid my $30 and went out to wait, and wait, and wait……finally a Sea Ray, maybe 28 ft. long comes in and up on the trailer. He saw us, but decided to pull up just a little bit, parked, still on the ramp. He saw us but did busy work he could do OFF the ramp, washing the windows! He looked at me and I said “We’ve been waiting for a while”, he looked at me again and walked away to talk with another guy on the dock.
    When I mentioned again that we wanted to get in the water (he knows ramp etiquette, just didn’t care) and he began yelling at me that we “couldn’t wait a few minutes”, we waited nearly a half hour.
    This guy pulled out and while passing me, he gave me a glare that felt like he wanted to hurt me. I wasn’t afraid of him, just thanked God my husband is a better person.
    It turns out this f*cking assh*le owned the marina. My friend kept apologizing, but we had nothing to apologize for.
    Now I have to find another place to launch my Whaler to get to my happy place, all because some douche was having a bad day.

    It seems like not one person proficient in boating had anything to do with designing these docks? Been on boats, but never captained one, and even I can see the the tie off posts are too high, and like you said, why not make everything rounded, the posts, the edges of the dock, everything. Why are the posts so high? Is there a reason behind that? 🤷‍♂😅👍✌🗽

    • @robertmorris8997
      @robertmorris8997 22 дня назад +1

      Tides go up and down. And storm surges, when combined with tides, can REALLY go up and down.
      They are that tall so there is NO WAY the dock can come off. Look at the crusty critters on it above the dock.
      That's the high tide mark.

    • @TOM-C.
      @TOM-C. 22 дня назад

      @@robertmorris8997 Yeah, I see that, but the posts are still considerably higher than they need to be. The water line isn't higher than what appears to me 1 1/2' to 2' feet at most above the dock. Those posts could be, should be about 4' feet lower than they are. This would allow easier tie-ups allowing you to easily wrap the line around the post without having to wrap your arms around it as well. From what I see, anything a few feet over the tide line is ridiculous, and overkill. But, what do I know, Florida is known for some hellacious floods, but for it to get that high the entire State would be under water!😅👍✌🗽

    • @YouveBeenMiddled
      @YouveBeenMiddled 21 день назад

      @@TOM-C. Storm surge in a hurricane is no joke. Those are dock pilings, not tie off posts.
      That's what the cleats on the dock surface like every 3 feet are for.

    • @TOM-C.
      @TOM-C. 21 день назад

      @@YouveBeenMiddled At Haulover the posts are at a more reasonable height. I'm just saying those posts at Boynton are astronomically high. The Thwaites Glacier would have to fall, and the sea level rise 2 feet for the water level to get 2 feet higher than the high tide level. Assuming high tide, extreme heavy rain, and the glacier falling all at once, the water level will still be considerably lower than those posts. I do get your point, but come on, those posts are far to high, and look out of place.

  • @dalegereaux1863

    Don't they have any rules for launching and picking up boats in Florida ?
    The few places I've been in California and Nevada, the trucks and trailers wait in line to put their boat or trailer in.
    The boats do not approach the ramp until they see that their trailer is on the ramp ready for them to load.
    There's a dock to approach to drop off the driver then the boat pulls away and waits for the trailer to arrive.
    There are no arguments that way because everyone has been waiting in the same line for an open ramp.

    • @richardredhead
      @richardredhead 22 дня назад +6

      PLEASE stop making sense! People in FL (and other southern locations) believe it is their birthright to block the ramp and docks for as long as they please.
      What you describe is the correct way for ramps to function, but since there's little cause for conflict at these locales, they inevitably do their recording at places where people insist on tying to the dock. The inevitable result is all the confrontation over "who goes next".
      It's quite unbelievable.
