The power of the ocean is amazing. I was surf fishing at the Jersey shore for stripers many years ago. I fished from dusk til dawn. In the middle of the night a guy was running his boat with no lights right off the end of the jetties. I thought that was a pretty dangerous move and it wasn't long before I heard the crash. He punched a hole in the bow you could walk through when he hit the rocks. He swam to shore and was drunk. I helped the tow company get the boat pulled up on the beach. By noon that morning there was nothing left on the beach except the inboard motor. The entire boat was gone.
@@MrJhchrist Some of my best fishing memories were sitting on the beach all night going for stripers. @@aaronwalker8847 I understand your point. However, if anyone had fallen off the boat....and several came really close.....inches made the difference between luck and serious injury, then it would have been a very different story. In CT a person committing reckless operation thus endangering anyone's life, limb, or property is subject to fines and loss of license. It is amazing after watching so many close calls and potential loss of life, that blind luck is the determinant of culpability. Hopefully at least most people know the freedom to operate a boat also comes with a sense of responsibility.... but as we know many people lose their minds when stepping on a boat.
I had a Mexican friend in AL he bought a boat for the first time and when he put in the water reverse was all it had and he would go around the lake in reverse True story guys

Your cameraman took a nasty tumble on his way over there to help, it looked like he nearly smashed the back of his head on those rocks. I hope he's okay!
I been out of the Boca Inlet hundreds of times. As most of you know you never want your boat sideways in the inlet with big seas. You need to muscle straight through slowly and head on into the waves. Then when you get pass the hazards (rocks) you can then swiftly turn around between waves. It's just the captains lack of experience or panic set in. He had a chance at 0:46 for recovery but instead of full throttle he pushed the throttle all the way down. When in doubt, throttle out!
This video will definitely make the recap for 2023❗️ These boaters are very lucky. No PFD visible, and combined with the weather things could have taken a tragic turn. Luck was on their side. Shoutout to the 🎥 man for capturing the 🍺 chug 😮
This boat was overloaded and under powered for the high wind and sea conditions at that time. The cost of $6000. for salvage was cheap, compared to the $10,000 federal fine written up by the USCG for environmental hazards (gas/oil, splintered boat and its debris) that still has to be removed because its a navigational hazard at the head of the inlet.
Way under powered. Someone screwed the hell out of that guy. No way that should have anything less than a 90, and that would be usable only in bays, intercoastal. That was an old Johnson 55 someone pulled out of the weeds and got to running good enough for a beginner to be tricked with.
This video is a gift that keeps giving! Captain really stuck the landing 🏅. Roger Rescue with the blue long sleeve only physical injury. Lifeguard Lisa's tan lines are 🔥.
@@chipsrafferty8362 yeah I think it’s their boat for the simple fact that there’s no way any experience boat owner would let someone so unexperienced take a boat out during a small craft advisory. Plus it’s a cheap junk underpowered boat.
@@reganlutzko93 yeah but if the captain doesn’t have the experience to know that, bad things happen fast. That’s the point. I wasn’t suggesting it was the wrong boat.
He had enough power to get himself out of that situation he just kept going the wrong way and kept panicking! A foolish drunk got what he deserved and lost his boat!
That is epic! His boat is being crushed against the rocks, and he's not even fazed enough to abandon his beer. He'll abandon the boat, but not the beer.
He got gun shy after that first big one and instead of turning into the waves to go out, he turned parallel with the waves to avoid catching air. That made it easier for the next big one to turn him directly into the jetty. Lastly, instead of throttling it once he was parallel again to pull away he let the waves carry him safely into the rocks.
People always want to head right for the pass with brand new boat, especially a small one. Someone new to boating should avoid the pass until they get some experience.
Captain is dumb as a box of rocks!! This could so easily have been a tragedy! The only thing they looked concerned about was finishing their beers. Unbelievable to watch the amount of stupidity here!,
I love the fact that the fat guy throws his empty can of Modelo beer into the rocks as if they didn’t pollute enough already with all this damage. Incredible.
Probably the best outcome possible considering all that could've happened. The days when the current is ripping, an outgoing tide and onshore winds >15 knts are a no go. You cannot just buy a boat, and go out and hope for the best. I look at at least 3 different forecasts before planning for any day.
Like the beer guzzle! This captain never should have taken a boat out for the first time in these choppy waters that are notorious for bad boating incidents. Love your videos man! from ATLANTA, Ga.
Last one . . . best parallel parking boat jobs I've ever seen. Old boy just finished off his Modelo and said . . . "Valet will handle this from here.' "Come now . . We shouldn't be late for our dinner reservation just a little further downtown."
He’s the most interesting man in the world. “He doesn’t always go boating but when he does he makes the Normandy landing look like child’s play.” Stay thirsty my friends. Brought to you by Dos Equis…
There should be classes you HAVE to take in areas like this. I’ve taken a 14’ boat in the Gulf of Mexico without problems because I watched the weather and tides.
To go out on a day like that day, with those waves is crazy, and double crazy if it's your first time captaining the boat. Especially with 5 people on board, and no one wearing life vests. Find a calmer day and/or location to learn on!
You have to stay on the throttle and keep it pointed out to sea. Or don't go out in that sea if you don't know what you are doing. Could have been way worse. The first wave parked it but it could have rolled and killed people.
What I always love about boat owners is that since they drive a car that means they can drive a boat and that is true drive it directly into the rocks.
I went out on this exact inlet with a new boat owner. We had a cooler full of beer heading out through the inlet here comes this big wave, he actually slowed down the boat. That wave crashed over us, took my sunglasses right off my head, so much water in the boat that the cooler almost floated out the back. Needless to say I never went out on the boat again with him.
Long before he hit the rocks it was readily apparent that the woman on the boat was completely ill-at-ease with the whole situation. The captain looks clueless and he put everyones life in danger. Those conditions, turning broadside into those waves, and not a single person with a life vest. Just wow. And his buddy with the beer?? His insurance company is going to do all it can to prove that he wasn't the only one drinking.....
Traveling side sea isn't really the issue. It's the sheer lack of knowledge on how the hell to do it. Dude tried going up sea, failed at quartering the wave, and had absolutely no throttle control, so he went "that sucked, we're not going to do that!" Then went side sea, and had no idea how to time the swells or use the throttle... Voyage was doomed from the get-go. No idea what they were doing, no idea how to handle conditions, no plan on "what if something goes wrong?" Just, an absolute shit show all around...
My wife bought a new Reinell 18 1/2 ft. boat without my input...she supposedly was "taught" boating by the salesmen who sold it...first time on the water, she was determined to pilot & pull away from the dock at the controls...I was up at the bow tending the line , she put it in reverse, & noting the boat wasn't moving after two-seconds, advanced the throttle to full throttle, in reverse, as we sped across the four lane ramp towards the other dock, the still attached line paying out in my hand...trying to avoid smacking the other dock, I tightened my grip, burning the line looped thru my hand...a gentile bump on the other dock & a burn scar neatly in & around my hand, disaster avoided, but at a cost. She never drove that boat again, my boating experience since 1973 took over.
You can’t fix stupid. He parked that boat on the jetty like a champ! Glad to see that all survived and that those coolers were pulling inshore for a lucky boater to snag. Id like see how the captain would do at the boat launch. 👍
By electing to abandon the boat, are they not responsible for the litter of gasoline that is being spilled out? Also, could you have paid the 6k and owned the boat at that point (forced owner to sign over title)? Seems like if it would have gotten drug off the rocks quickly it may have been repairable.
Not trying to be condescending or anything as I"m also relatively new to boating in Florida, but I hate to say that this is a self-correcting situation. They'll probably never be going out again. At least not any time soon. I'm curious to know if the boat was insured and if insurance agents issuing policies for boats regularly view Wavy Boats.
This is what happens when they don't require a boaters driver's license. They need to change the maritime laws. Glad your camera guy helped the poor castaways.
The problem with licensing is they will have age requirements, which doesn't fit in with the way life has worked here forever. I first started letting my son drive when he was probably 5-ish, of course only in safe situations with me standing next to him, but kids starting this young is common here and by the time they're early teens they're proficient and often allowed to take the boats out alone with their friends (not in the ocean alone), and I would hate to see this way of life go away. Perhaps licensing without an age requirement. It sucks when idiots ruin things for everyone else.
Recently at Manasquan, New Jersey a boat holding a father and his two sons overturned as strong waves from hurricane Lee crashed into the rocks. All that was left of the boat were little pieces of it floating in the water. The father and his eldest was rescued but unfortunately the youngest son is declared missing. He’s most definitely dead, floating somewhere in the water. It’s irritating to see how arrogant boat riders are. In a split of a second someone’s life can be at risk.

Get a beacon you keep on you. Put your jackets on if you think it’s starting to go bad.
ive been on a boat since i was a kid... i like to pick my days even if it means calling in sick to work. i dont like going out above 15mph winds, and even thats pushing it for me
My friend had a pontoon boat to putter up and down the navigable stretch of our river. When she moved to Florida she took boating classes to safely navigate on the Gulf coast.

I used to catch tons of strippers at the Jersey shore myself

That fact nobody was hurt is truly remarkable. This was true contributory negligence and he should be prosecuted.
There is an old saying that God watches over drunks and fools. They were lucky no one got hurt or killed.
Yes it was , but prosecution? For what crime - being stupid? Theyd have to lock everyone up at some point if acting follishly was a crime. It would have to be a "CRIMINAL law" - which are criminal. God doesnt hold our stupid mistakes against us. THANK GOD!

That’s the best advice. Throttle out straight into the open sea
Not a good advice for this capt.
spot on!
"When in doubt, throttle out." I like that!

Well lesson Learned to windy rough waters No experience dangerous for others.
People always want to head right for the pass with brand new boat, especially a small one. Someone new to boating should avoid the pass until they get some experience.

Gotta finish up that beer tho….! 🍺
Highly doubtful they were insured
Traveling side sea isn't really the issue. It's the sheer lack of knowledge on how the hell to do it. Dude tried going up sea, failed at quartering the wave, and had absolutely no throttle control, so he went "that sucked, we're not going to do that!"
Then went side sea, and had no idea how to time the swells or use the throttle...
Voyage was doomed from the get-go. No idea what they were doing, no idea how to handle conditions, no plan on "what if something goes wrong?" Just, an absolute shit show all around...

I have had a boat for over 20 years and would never even think about launching and attempting to challenge that inlet..
It adds a little bit of character to the jetty with the boat wreck there. A reminder to pay attention for those Small Boat Advisories.
You can’t fix stupid. He parked that boat on the jetty like a champ! Glad to see that all survived and that those coolers were pulling inshore for a lucky boater to snag. Id like see how the captain would do at the boat launch. 👍

Pretty sure Chris from "No nonsense knowhow "can salvage that boat in a "will it drive ? " video xD
Some people just shouldnt own boats 😳
Know your boat before you go out. Don't invite guests if it's a test run, Know the tides and wind conditions!
With that guy's boating skills, 3 days wasn't too bad
They obviously had no insurance or Boat Tow US would have been paid by the insurance to salvage the boat right away!
