I`m just picturing the scene now: Benny hill as the officer in the boat, and Jackie Wright ( the old bald guy) along with a buxom beauty on a sinking jet ski. Benny pulls along side, rescues the girl then kicks Jackie back in the water and continues to chat up the girl.

I could not believe my eyes when she rode the jet ski over to the rocks AFTER the harrowing rescue scenario. WTF was she thinking?? That was so dangerous. You hear about people losing limbs on jet skis and I always wondered how, and that perfectly demonstrates how it happens.

The patrol boat should have a 2 person crew always.
One should be at the helm always and the second can help the people needing assistance!

I’d like to hear commentary from the tow guy! Just hangin’ out, patiently waiting for the inevitable…… tick tock.
Yeah when I got there I honestly thought they had a decent shot of getting it flipped over and back on their own. Moved my boat to the windward side to try and give them a little bit of a lee. The blue one was too full of water to right and the red one took on some water and wouldn’t start back up. They were persistent though and didn’t give up until George from Bal Harbor ordered them off.
We ended up salvaging the blue one and towing both back from the fuel dock.
What is it with Florida and their ridiculous flags?

I also don’t understand why there aren’t 2 officers in the police boat. Seems hard to manage a rescue while trying to drive the boat.

If you notice it's rigged for fishing, two bait wells in the rear bulkhead, rod holders all around. The police should have a boat that is agile, easy for divers to exit and recover to and is fast. This boat is not designed for police work.

There are some basic adages about the water which everybody should learn before heading out. The water is rougher than it looks from shore and can get rougher. Distances are further than you think. You can't swim as far as you think you can, no matter how strong a swimmer you are. And after struggling to upright a boat for 15 minutes or so you will be so fatigued, you won't be able to pull yourself out of the water. Also the last place you want to land a boat is against the rocks with the surf pounding you. The sea is cruel mistress.
The seais like the mountains, the desert, the jungle, electricity, firearms or explosives. The moment you don’t pay them the correct amount of respect, you’re going to the ER if you’re lucky.
I was taught manners by an experience seaman - when I said "it doesnt look that rough" he pondered it and told me OK but hold on (he was a friend owned a 16ft boat, we used to go fishing south west UK) went out about 1/3 to 1/2 a mile, spun it in a trough, and bought us back in - he knew what he was doing and I learned the best way NEVER underestimate the sea. It was very very frightening but the best way for me to learn.

1. Rental companies gotta stop acting like jet skis are beach cruisers. They are large, high-powered machines. Remounting is the first lesson. If you can’t get back on, you don’t go out to ride. Period. Yes, that means many fat folks will be ass out of the fun. It’s in your own best interest to not ride something on water you’re not fit enough to handle.
2. Jet skis should be banned at Haulover.
3. The cop needs a useful boat with side doors, handles and a fold-down step ladder.
4. People need to know how life jackets are to fit and work.
just cause someone is fat doesnt mean they are unable to remount a jet ski or flip it . given lots of them are not going to be able to do it but in reality they should have the easiest time flipping it back over as they have the weight to easily pull it over not to mention it is very possible to flip them by pushing up on the step not as easy but doable if they have strong legs to be able to kick hard
this. how the rental companies let them take them out of the inlet is nuts. In Ocean City all rentals have stay north of the rt 50 bridge and even then Jetski rentals normally have area marked off they have stay in
In fairness to your first point and partially to your second, these are probably 60 HP sparks. I can see those being banned from the inlet, but the fullsized sitdowns? They're just as capable as some of the other small boats we see cruise thru the inlet.

I rented a jet ski for the first time in Clearwater, my girlfriend was on the back and it was a fairly rough day-I was surprised at how fatigued my arms got, it became difficult to maneuver the ski, and I returned it before my time was up lol--the conditions I see here make it no surprise these people ran into problems.
I would bet that the rental agreement states somewhere that you are not allowed to take it to the big water.

Well said even in moderately rough water it's hard on the arms. It's that slowing and surging (more like blasting) when the ski pops the pump in and out of the water. Even in smooth water you'll have 50 mph+ of wind blowing you off the back.
