Great reaction! You are going to be blown away by "How to be me" Ren & Chinchilla (live) & Chinchilla's "Fingers" (live). Can't wait for you to see/hear!
Floating around in chalk outlines. You’re walking around feeling close to death or like you’re already dead. Powerful lyrics. Chinchilla recently released a new video.✌️😊🧿
My own experiences with Sertraline and depression/stress are echoed so strongly in Chalk Outlines. The hollow, zombified feeling inside as stated in so many other comments. Even the video, the buzz when the lights flicker is just like the brain zaps that I sometimes experience if I forget a dose or two...the cold, echoey, stark and seemingly endless concrete corridor that reflects the aimless and enclosed feeling of being alone in your illness whilst the medication makes everything feel even more remote.....even the sound of the metal chair is reminiscent of the way that so many things sound when you live in the world of medicated mental health issues, sharp and piercing. Add into that mix the beautiful, haunting vocals of both Ren and Chinchilla and Chalk Outlines absolutely nails it.
Interesting... I've been on Sertraline for many years, on the maximum allowable dose, and I've never felt these things that others describe. I know there's research going on lately into why certain antidepressants and other medications work great for some people, and don't work at all, or give horrible side-effects to others. I think there are even genetic tests now that can determine which options for various meds might work best for you, but clearly we need to go much, _much_ further with that kind of exploration. Doctors need to do a much better job of listening to patients describe how the meds make them feel, and if someone says one makes them feel empty inside, then _stop having them take it and switch them to something else!_ The trouble, of course, is that antidepressants tend to be very long halflife meds. They take weeks or months to build up in your system to stable levels, and months or _years_ to completely dissipate, so a trial-and-error process like that, especially with how subtle the effects can often be, can take years. Maybe the genetic testing is the way to go. Then again, there were some studies lately that found that actually there's no discernable causal link or even any real correlation between serotonin levels and depression in humans... so it could be that with all these serotonin-modifying medications, we're just shooting in the dark and affecting something peripheral or tangential to the real cause out of sheer luck. For some people, anyway; for others, it appears to be awful. It makes me wonder... among many other things, I suffer from intense restless leg syndrome. I turned out to have been self-treating it after cannabinoids were legalized, when I started taking them for anxiety and panic attacks that I thought were heart attacks at first, 'cause it turns out that restless leg syndrome seems to be caused by a dopamine deficiency in the deep brain, in the area that normally dampens muscle input and feedback to smooth it out so we don't shake all the time. And I gotta wonder... is that dopamine deficiency just coincidence? Or is the SSRI or some other med I'm on causing it? We know so little about the brain. We seem to be entering a golden age of neuroscience, but we're still discovering cell types and organ systems in the brain that we didn't know about before. So much of 20th and early 21st century medicine is based on assumption and hubris and arrogance. Now, as actual evidence-based studies are being done on everything from neurology to nutrition, _so much_ of what we _knew_ is just wrong. Not even wrong. Harmful. We're a whole world suffering from pandemics of obesity, diabetes, autoimmunity, and hormone imbalances, and we're finding out more and more that we did it all to ourselves by selling medical advice to the highest bidder for most of a century. Sadly, many doctors, even _most_ in some fields like nutrition, still recite the same old lobbyist-funded nonsense, confidently and arrogantly as if it's sound medical advice. I'm at the point now where if a doctor can't explain to me exactly _why_ and _how_ a medication or treatment or advice actually works, I just don't believe it. "Just eat fewer calories and exercise more, and you'll lose weight." Yeah? How, exactly? "Well it's obvious. Even the government says so! Look, here's a pamphlet from the American Heart Association that says eat less, move more, and buy oatmeal. Not at all paid for by Quaker, nope, why would you think that?" Meanwhile, if you can actually find a nutritionist that will tell you to eat fewer carbs and to eat less frequently and only when you're hungry, and ask them why and how that helps, they can explain it down to the molecular level... exactly what hormones it changes and when and why, exactly how various cell types respond on a chemical level, what transport chains are involved... Evidence. Amazing! More, please. And that's for comparatively simple things like digestion and microbiomes. For brains, which we barely even comprehend and can't answer basic questions about? Eesh... like asking a toddler how to put out a fire while he's holding a book of matches and a bucket of gasoline.
Loved your reaction and yeah, Ren is a poet first and last. You broke down chalk outlines PERFECTLY. A reactor who is a therapist commented that this is a common complaint with this class of anti-depressant. People lose their sense of where/who they are, and what they present to the world is not them - it's that great big smile that buries them. So, your comment - zombie - just nailed it. The walking dead. I think this is the best anti-drug song I may have ever heard, but it's a theme that creeps in and out of a lot of Ren's work. He knows the side-effects, and the toll, of way too many prescribed "medicines." Don't miss Chinchilla's "Fingers" Looking forward to it. subscribed.
Rens music seems to touch people in a way I haven’t seen in awhile. I think this is a masterpiece and maybe it’s just real we are actually hearing real voices and just small things we usually don’t hear recorded. We usually hear a very sterile recording of artist and that looses the human connection this song is just beautifully human if ya know what I mean great reaction friend.
Chinchilla is also an independent artist from the UK. She has another song with Ren called How to be me. It's about Ren dealing with the suicide death of his best friend when he was 19. The last part is a direct tribute. They filmed the live version on the bridge where he died. If you want to react to more Chinchilla I'd suggest starting with Fingers (LIVE) for Hunger TV (to hear her voice in a sparse setting), and Little Girl Gone (official video) to hear her newest single.
I love your reactions, you go back, re-listen and pay close attention and I love that, you're such a good reactor to follow and I really enjoy your channel so thanks for that. Also, I love this song, Chinchilla sounds haunting in this, her body language feels anguished and she is perfect for this song, Ren is fast becoming one of my favourites. ❤
Such a stunning performance, a match made in heaven. How to be Me is also a deeply moving song and then try Chinchilla Fingers Live you will NOT be disappointed! Love your reactions in the detail.
I see the chalk outline as being so medicated you are empty inside but you still have to face the world with a “ Great Big Smile” 😊 and pretend you are OK
Mugs this was great 🔥💜 this is such a beautiful and sad song. Ren is so versatile and unique to me. And Chinchilla is a powerful artist as well. She is amazing. Check out her as well. These 2 UK artist have something special and I am happy I found their music ❤
Thanks for a great reaction! I have listened to this many times. It’s in my head, as are most of Ren’s songs. More Ren and more Chinchilla please! ☮️❤️😎
Great reaction. I think this song means something different depending on who's listening. As a sufferer of several mental health illnesses, this is about the medication preventing destruction, but at the same time you're not really living either. You're numbed and hollow. You walk around in a floating chalk outline. The opening lines hit hard, "I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in / I hope that I'm someone else in the morning." It took his everything just to get to bed; it was so hard he had to crawl. Now he's lying there and his most sincere hope is to be someone else - to have a different body, a different mind, a different life. When he says, "I'm scared of being okay / 'Cause all things change," I think he's talking about the mental state when you've been through hell to get to the floating chalk outline stage and are afraid of change. You don’t like your current status, but you can't really imagine what better would be. And what if you get better, but get sick again? Could you go through it all again? Seems safer in the outline; better not to erase it feeble as it is. Sonically, I love the sound of the chair snapping open at the start. It sounds like the closing of the old timey jail cells. It makes you feel like there's about to be a confession or a judgment. To me, that fits with "In the gallows, I balanced on my toes / So I can breathe." It’s like you're about to get hung and fighting for your last breath. It's like the death penalty has been set, and you're walking in your chalk outline. You're not dead yet, but death is breathing down your neck.
Great reaction. Sertraline is an anti-depressant that often makes people feel numb and like they have no emotion at all. These two have such an amazing chemistry. Can’t wait for you to check out how to be me and some of her solo stuff.
Love that you love it, dude. 'floating chalk outlines' (for me, anyway, it might mean something similar to something else) is when you feel detatched from the world' but going through the motions....you feel like you're 'there' but really, you're not.....you feel like you may as well be dead. The 'struggle' is a different thing altogether.
Chinchilla's first line gets to me. I can relate so much. I am on Sertraline (Zoloft). It is a SSRI medication; for depression, anxiety or a mood disorder. They are such an amazing collab.
"I'm scared of being ok because all things change..." I've been there. When you've been going through hell for so long and you get a period of time, whether it's an hour or a month or a year where things are ok, you can't trust it because you know it won't last.
Really enjoyed watching your reaction. You seem to see the depth quite quickly, and not gonna lie, you're more eloquent than initially expected. Sub'd, look forward to more!
Ooh, I like that. Ren's voice is the strength of the song. Chinchilla's is the anguish that drives that strength, to riff on what you said, and maybe complete it.
I think you nailed it. Chalk outline is recognized where someone died. So everyone is walking around like dead people without true emotions. They take pills just in case even if the day in itself is beautiful just to stay away from emotions on the darker end, even if that's the most human thing to do (as you've watched Hi Ren I won't go into detail). Instead of feeling this true emotions and being honest with yourself, you pop a pill and roll with it. Turning the world gray. This song has made me cry many times from the thought of how people willingly stop feeling with street drugs or pills from a doctor. Erasing themself before they're dead.
Chalk outlines. Outline of someone who died. I'm pretty sure they are saying the medication given to "make everything better" leaves them feeling like a floating chalk outline. So pretty much walking around but dead inside. Ren's music is so deep and he leaves it up to interpretation for the listener. He speaks his truth but also leaves it open for the listeners. I think that's why his music has been touching so many people. Chinchilla is amazing. Check out her music. Fingers live, elements. And little girl gone are good starters
I think one meaning of walking around in a floating chalk outline is that so many of the medications they give us, anti-depressants and such, make us feel almost dead inside. They draw a chalk outline around dead bodies at crime scenes, etc.
I think chalk outlines...erasing/rubbing out our true feelings and floating around like you said 'zombified' or like the living dead, all true feelings/emotions suppressed. Loving your thoughtfulness with all the different reactions I've watched
I never thought of this before until your reaction..... at the end when you're talking about Ren's voice being song and her bellowing 'adding something'..... i think her part adds a kind of "sorrow and desparation" emotionally..... just my 2 cents worth :) thanks for your awesome reaction!
Sertraline (Zoloft) is an antidepressant. I believe the reference to chalk outlines is the part of ourselves that we loose (dies) when we use medications such as this . Excellent reaction by the way.
Bang on with Chalk Outlines in this context drugs making you feel dull and not the real you. Chinchilla voice is haunting and even better in their duet of How to be Me (Live). You've got to check it out. I believe it was recorded on the bridge his friend Joe Hughes ended his life a very moving piece about how suicide can affect those around them.
In general, a chalk outline is linked to death and crime, but it’s mostly portrayed and picture after the body is removed from the scene, is the empty space were a human expired, were there was essence and it ceased to be. Then you have the effect that most psychological drugs have, they numb your feelings, transform your personality and you feel like they take away your humanity. So, as I understand it floating around in chalk outlines is the concept of a shell of human being, void of feelings, personality and humanity that just exist. You take the pills just so you can be what society calls a functioning human being, but they erase what makes you be you, what makes you a human being and you end up empty inside, walking around this world as a carcass while time passes by… walk around in a floating chalk outline.
I agree with everyone How To Be Me LIVE VERSION 🔥🔥🔥 Chinchilla Fingers LIVE 🔥🔥🔥 Also i suggest if you have time check out his interviews with Knox Hill and Justin Hawkins. Lots of info into Ren there.
Please take a look at Chinchilla's song 'Fingers' Live for Hunger TV. She is a special talent like Ren. She has done a few songs with Ren, some of which are live, they speak of each other as siblings. Chinchilla has recently gone independent. Her first independent song was recently released 'Little Girl Gone'. If you want to know a bit more about her not long ago she did an interview on RUclips with Chris Liepe. Enjoy
Don't know if it was mentioned, but this was a single contiguous take, recorded live. I don't know how many takes they took, but it's not spliced or edited, it's all one shot. Glad you love Chinchilla's voice. You should check out "Fingers (live)" and "Little Girl Lost"
The main substrate used in pharmaceutical medications, more specifically tablets is chalk, hence society is medicating itself with overconsumption and we're really all walking round in floating chalk outlines,
I’m only a type 1 diabetic and an epileptic so my life is great compared to Ren. My feelings about the chalk outlines is how you feel when heavily medicated you become a chalk outline of your former self identity. To finish on a positive note since listening to Ren I’m back running again at dawn each morning with a needle in my hip and bicep 💪 happy to report today I did a personal best time 29:54 for 5km aged 57. Life is what you make it, we are all so lucky to have Ren with us inspiring our individual small journey’s to keep improving
I see them as chalk figures. Partly considering the clothes and also how she moves. Thinking that it is a basement in a mental hospital, where books and journals are archived.
(EDIT) Sertraline - it's commonly prescribed as Zoloft, and as someone who spent a decade sucking down 200mg/day I can say with absolute certainty that its not something you want to take on the regular unless you're ok with being a shadow of yourself, in a walking 'Chalk Outline' (eg. like the picture they drew around the dead body), you're there, but not really. Oh lordy.. time to break out my Ren'N'Frenz list... Note: I leave Sam Tompkins out of this mostly because I just don't have the energy or space :) *Chinchilla: Take 1 part Christina, 1 part Jessie J, 1 part Rhianna, blend well and pour over your own unique style, served ice cold by the baddest bitch in town (See Fingers (Live), Little Girl Gone (the official video is just *fun*), Elements, One Time, and for fun Terms & Conditions which has an 80s Madonna vibe *Gorran: He's got a pretty amazing list of tunes but the LIVE version of "If' speaks to me *Romain: If you love good guitar, Romain is your guy, but if I had to pick ONE song.. it's him on a Piano - (Live) Love Without Feelings (And bonus, he's got a new tune dropping soon (05/26/23) called Turn the Lights Down and its sounding like its going to be absolute mad Also Humble w/ Eden Nash is just pure young punk/rude boy heaven
The meds do it to you. They really do. Especially meds for bipolar. They just keep you in limbo … lost in the middle zone of nothingness. You have to take them, but on them life is just breathing. 😢❤✌️
What my mind thought about the meaning behind chalk outlines was that the chalk outline is just a thin line that has nothing or darkness inside of it (like bad thoughts) and the outline would represent the fake face somebody would show to everybody else (not real self). -that's about where I can relate to the song, I haven't myself been on pills, so I can't relate on that level. :/
Some of the anxiety or depression meds can make you feel numb, almost dead inside. Hence walking around in a "chalk outline". Great reaction ❤
Great reaction! You are going to be blown away by "How to be me" Ren & Chinchilla (live) & Chinchilla's "Fingers" (live). Can't wait for you to see/hear!
Fingers is pure 🔥 🔥🔥🔥
Also, how to be me. There harmonies are flawless.
I couldn't agree more.
I was about to write the exact same thing.
Can't wait for those reactions!!!!!!!!
This. Fingers live for sure
Chinchilla is talented AF. Just try and see for yourself. Purely incredible.
Doctors need to do a much better job of listening to patients describe how the meds make them feel, and if someone says one makes them feel empty inside, then _stop having them take it and switch them to something else!_
The trouble, of course, is that antidepressants tend to be very long halflife meds.

Meanwhile, if you can actually find a nutritionist that will tell you to eat fewer carbs and to eat less frequently and only when you're hungry, and ask them why and how that helps, they can explain it down to the molecular level... exactly what hormones it changes and when and why, exactly how various cell types respond on a chemical level, what transport chains are involved...
Evidence. Amazing! More, please.
And that's for comparatively simple things like digestion and microbiomes. For brains, which we barely even comprehend and can't answer basic questions about? Eesh... like asking a toddler how to put out a fire while he's holding a book of matches and a bucket of gasoline.
I get chills every time she stands up and belts Oh My My. Every time.

That was not the bridge where he jumped from. So many people spread that but it's not true
They filmed the amazing live version, on a rooftop not a bridge.
The word you are looking for is anguish. She is singing from her soul and putting all the pain into her song.
I love your reactions, you go back, re-listen and pay close attention and I love that, you're such a good reactor to follow and I really enjoy your channel so thanks for that. Couldn't have said it better myself 👍
@@thewalrus6833 Thanks ❤
Chinchilla - Fingers (live, hungary TV) ... absolute showcase of her voice and song writing. And she can play up there with Ren.

More of Chinchilla please! She is amazing! What a voice, need to hear more of her.
Ren has described himself and Chinchilla as musical twins.
Not only are they amazing artists but also considering the room they perform in. Love how the sound is bouncing off all the concrete.
Chinchilla's voice is simply amazing and who knew Ren can sing great too
Perfect. THEY ARE SHARING (FEELING) EACH OTHER'S PAIN IN THAT MOMENT "❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉😊😊😊
Ren is so awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ And the pipes on Chinchilla, Wow!
You nailed the meaning. "Zombies"... how psychiatric meds often leave ppl feeling nothing. Beautiful reaction.
thank you for reacting and supporting to my favourite two artist ever please please more Ren and Chinchilla ❤❤❤
I love your appreciation of art! You are an amazing reactor. One of my favorites!
REN calls chinchilla his musical sibling and there couldn’t be a true fact. Their busking videos are great 🖤
That smile was great when you heard Chinchilla belt out those last few lines
You have GOT to react to Ren x Chinchilla “ How to be Me” live version. Incredible duo.
Thanks for a great reaction! I have listened to this many times. It’s in my head, as are most of Ren’s songs. More Ren and more Chinchilla please! ☮️❤️😎
Great reaction! Your face was a joy to watch! Chinchilla Fingers live version next, you'll love it!
I thoroughly enjoy ur reactions & respect ur breakdowns. Thank you, much love! ❤

Great reaction. Sertraline is an anti-depressant that often makes people feel numb and like they have no emotion at all. These two have such an amazing chemistry. Can’t wait for you to check out how to be me and some of her solo stuff.
The comfort of a pill that takes away the dread and emotional hell of living, but wandering through a life not lived or felt
They are amazing together. You should do their live version of “How to be me”!!!
Yours is the most thoughtful and interesting reaction I've heard to this song, and I've heard many. Thank you!
So beautiful... amazing !
They used to use chalk outlines when someone was murdered. They outlined the bodies. Yea. Chills. Peace 💙
Her voice is chinchilling 👍🏼
Ren regards Chinch' as his 'Musical sibling' they work so well together. She has her own thing going on too.
"I'm scared of being ok because all things change..." I've been there. When you've been going through hell for so long and you get a period of time, whether it's an hour or a month or a year where things are ok, you can't trust it because you know it won't last.

I will be but Imma enjoy the process to 100k, please be here when I do
Chalk outlines. Chinchilla is like a sea siren tempting all those ships in to her heavenly voice.
I think one meaning of walking around in a floating chalk outline is that so many of the medications they give us, anti-depressants and such, make us feel almost dead inside. They draw a chalk outline around dead bodies at crime scenes, etc.
Awesome reaction Bro. Big respect stay safe x

You've got to check it out. I believe it was recorded on the bridge his friend Joe Hughes ended his life a very moving piece about how suicide can affect those around them.
Not filmed on that bridge, please help us stop the spread of that misinformation.
Great reaction fella. Thx.👍
The “floating chalk outline” phrase echoes images in his animated music video “Diazepam”
@Mugnify Reacts: great reaction! New subscriber here... Cheers from Munich, Germany
Great reaction. U have a new subscriber! Love it my man. Thank u
You’re one sharp dude in breaking down these videos. Respect
Great reaction ❤
Enjoy
Third reaction of yours I'm watching.. back to back, mind you. I truly appreciate the depths in which you so deliberatively delve. Subscribed.੯•໒꒱❤︎
Don't know if it was mentioned, but this was a single contiguous take, recorded live. I don't know how many takes they took, but it's not spliced or edited, it's all one shot.
Glad you love Chinchilla's voice. You should check out "Fingers (live)" and "Little Girl Lost"
React to live version of “How to be Me” Ren and Chinchilla. Ren wrote it after one of his best friends took his own life. It’s beautiful yet haunting.
SHE has some stuff you would love. Live and her newer lyric videos that she produces.
You should check out more Chinchilla, Elements, Fingers, and Little Girl Gone to start
This is a live performance without body mics, The female voice is normally always going to cut thru and they know that.
The main substrate used in pharmaceutical medications, more specifically tablets is chalk, hence society is medicating itself with overconsumption and we're really all walking round in floating chalk outlines,
Fire! Best duet since grease 1😂
Whew.... The feels 💙
The GALLOWS where one is hung by rope 😔 and one stands on ones toes hoping the floor doesn't fall out 😞
Chemistry! 😊
Cannot wait for you to see the LIVE How To Be Me and Fingers.
Great reaction..new sub 🎉
this is a great song they did together but if you want more look up How to be me by ren x chinchilla (make sure u get the live verison!
True, the core is Ren but the sore is her’s but Ren never stop the heights from being reached …. Love the way they both sore but in their own worlds…
Nice one
I feel Ren does a 3 stage process in lyrics, past, present and future.
Listen to Little Girl Gone official video and Fingers live for hunger!! Chinchilla is amazing!
Chinchilla time! 😂😊
To me floating chalk outlines is your own aura that outlines our bodies. They have another song together which is much better.
Note: I leave Sam Tompkins out of this mostly because I just don't have the energy or space :)
*Chinchilla: Take 1 part Christina, 1 part Jessie J, 1 part Rhianna, blend well and pour over your own unique style, served ice cold by the baddest bitch in town
(See Fingers (Live), Little Girl Gone (the official video is just *fun*), Elements, One Time, and for fun Terms & Conditions which has an 80s Madonna vibe
*Gorran: He's got a pretty amazing list of tunes but the LIVE version of "If' speaks to me
*Romain: If you love good guitar, Romain is your guy, but if I had to pick ONE song.. it's him on a Piano - (Live) Love Without Feelings (And bonus, he's got a new tune dropping soon (05/26/23) called Turn the Lights Down and its sounding like its going to be absolute mad
Also Humble w/ Eden Nash is just pure young punk/rude boy heaven
Please do the live version of “How To Be Me” Ren x Chinchilla...it will blow your socks off
Bro... wait til ya see their How To Be Me!!!
Also... She has a video called Little Girl Gone you Gotta see!!!
The meds do it to you. They really do. Especially meds for bipolar. They just keep you in limbo … lost in the middle zone of nothingness. You have to take them, but on them life is just breathing. 😢❤✌️
Sertraline is an anti depressant...you have so much more of Ren and Chinchilla to enjoy ❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The meds. take your personality away, like a zombie, walking dead, hence the chalk outlines. love you reactions, nice work.
S.o.s from ourselves❤
❤❤❤
Lost souls!❤

What my mind thought about the meaning behind chalk outlines was that the chalk outline is just a thin line that has nothing or darkness inside of it (like bad thoughts) and the outline would represent the fake face somebody would show to everybody else (not real self). -that's about where I can relate to the song, I haven't myself been on pills, so I can't relate on that level. :/
FINGERS LIVE BY CHIN !!
