Chinchilla is also amazing on her own. You must definitely try "Vero Presents: Chinchilla - Fingers live for Hunger TV". Her performance there would shock you, about her vocal range and variety. She is like Beyoncé + Aretha Franklin + Janis Joplin. Just ridiculously talented AF.
Thank you enjoyable reaction. As for "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010 by jumping off the Menai Bridge, a large suspension bridge connecting the mainland to the Isle of Anglesey where Ren and Joe lived. Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs, "Freckled Angels" being one example. It is dedicated to Joe Hughes. Some people have claimed that the video was shot at the bridge that Ren's friend jumped from, however, that is misinformation according to some Brighton residents. Ren recently posted some background on his relationship with Joe and the tragic suicide. Ren explained that he got a call from his friend Ella around 3 am saying that Joe was the Menai Bridge, He’d been on the phone with her in tears saying goodbye. He told her to tell everyone he loved them. Ren went out on foot attempting to get to Joe while trying to reach him on the phone. Just minutes before Ren got to the bridge, his friend's cell phone went out of service. The Coast Guard started a search to no avail. Ren, friends, and volunteers unsuccessfully searched the shoreline for ten days; Joe’s body was never recovered. Ren’s and Chinchilla’s live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it more given my daily struggles. Although, losing one’s best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How to Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would recommend you check out their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk In Love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable. I hope you will continue to dive into Ren's and Chinchilla's catalogs.
This was written in memory of REN's bestie who took his own life 🙏. If you haven't already try Chinchilla's ELEMENT'S or FINGERS LIVE 🍯🤌💥👍. Enjoyed your reaction man 🙏
You did a great job! It's obvious you were moved, like the rest of us. Humming, mirroring, singing in rounds, they threw it all at us! Thanks for your reaction.
Mugs you did great on this. It is a very deep song. I follow Ren and know the story of Joe, one of his closest friends. He jumped off a bridge and they never found his body. It has haunted Ren for many years. Ren was literally running to get to Joe to not harm himself. It's very sad. Mugs I enjoy all these reactions!!!!! Thank you friend 💜
This song was written in memory of best friend Joe who jumped off the Menai bridge in Wales many years ago, and his body was never found😢. I agree it is haunting. The vocals and lyrics are unreal. REN is a musical genius. 🔥reaction
The eye contact! they are literally channelling each other! Chinchilla is soooo in her zone. The head shake here is 7:15 genuine in this moment in every sense she's able! It gives me goosebumps
This song is hauntinly beautiful. To me is about overwhelming grief that follows you wherever you go and changes you as a person, you can never go back to who you where ❤. As for the last verse, just read Ren's last post in his comunity page 😢. R.I.P Joe x
So moving and beautiful . Thanks for another great reaction. Chinchilla Fingers Live for Hunger TV is seriously the most amazing female solo vocal experience ever!
You just had exactly the same reaction as we all had which is - Stunned. Absolutely stunned by the beauty and the tragedy of both the song and the vocals. No need to apologise. It was real so thank you.
Thank you for your awesome reactions everytime! Ren is talking about his friend Joe that he lost and you're exactly right, it is beautiful but haunting!
Joe H- Legend, and REN’s hero. Watch the song from the Royal room live version , it called freckled angels. An even more emotional tribute to a friend he loved so much and was never able to tell the things to him before he decide this world was not for him. To this day, and on the upcoming Sick Boi Album release, Ren will go into a deeper additional couple of minutes to say the words he was at a loss for years ago. This is why I love this man’s music, and also why I care for him like millions of others. The bloke is so F’n relatable to anyone who gives him a reasonable listen. I had a friend when I was young who left our world at 16 because he couldn’t stay in this one. I loved him and I’ve had friends i served with in the military that I’ve lost to this insidious pathway, and so many I never gave a proper “I love you” with a true meaning, instead of a Pat on the back “love you dude”. I sincerely regret that I let my “manhood” separate me from sharing my feelings to someone, just because he was a man, and and be a true man. Fuck that. It’s a societal molding. Break the mold of what a man is So, call your best friend and have the courage to say those words. They may ask “what going on bro”, and say your ok, but that you needed to tell him that. Now with tears rolling down my face on a delta airline flight, I’ll stop my diatribe. Do it, before it’s too late.
I'm happy I've found your channel. The reactions I've watched are golden included this one. You are sincere, natural and you have knowledge about music. Keep on and I'll keep watching. 🤓🇸🇪
Thanks for the reaction. That's the thing about Chinchilla, she makes you feel it. As mentioned below Chinchilla doing her song 'Fingers' Live for Hunger TV is worth a view. A true talent who's just starting out on the journey as an independent artist.
I feel this... You remind us all to remain humble... There's no way we can all know everything ..or anything about everything... Sometimes we just feel it, whether or not we can explain it. ❤❤❤
The last part was about his friend Joe Hughes who sadly took his own life at the age of 19 (he jumped off the Menai Bridge around 3.00 a.m. on 28th December 2010). Ren wrote the song Freckled Angels about Joe and dedicated the album of the same name to him. Beautiful song and incredible performance. Ren & Chinchilla have such a strong chemistry
He wrote is about is friend Joe, who jumped off the bridge they were preforming on. Ren tried to get to him, but when he arrived Joe was gone, never to be found. Freckled Angels is another moving song about this as well. Can't wait for Chinchilla's Little Girl Gone, her newest one, it is an anthem.
I loved your thoughts about the mirroring! Another great reaction thanks! This song and live performance really is among the greats and should have WAYYYYYYYY more views than it does.
Always love your reactions, thanks. Appreciate your thoughtfulness and your appreciation of the beauty of the sounds...there's another interpretation of "How to be Me" which I think is underlined in the lyrics... "I forgot how to be me." The idea of 'put yourself in my shoes' shows confidence, and that's entirely missing when you forget what to do. To me, this song is an expression of deep grief... mind a blur, a blank, forgetting every detail of how you normally - used to - function. That tracks with the ending and the decision to film this on the bridge where Joe died.
Ren lost his best mate Joe, who took his life late in the night.... This tragedy haunts him still, this is his song about it. Chinchilla adds so, so much to Ren's vocals in all their duets together. 2 amazing artists that compliment each other, lifting the other's voice in to new heights. Bloody brilliant these 2 are.
That last part is not true. It's a myth that has been spreading, but this song is recorded on a rooftop/balcony in Brighton, England. His friend jumped from a bridge in Wales. I understand that people want this to be true since it adds even more emotions, but in my opinion it is not needed. This performance is emotional enough in itself. It is so good!
You’re awesome! It’s not easy to interpret that video without context. The devastating suicide of his best friend years ago, in fact he made a post around June 2 either acknowledging the anniversary of his suicide or his birthday. He explains how his friend was freckled and funny and goofy and brought him so much joy. I think this song is about what happens to those left behind after a suicide. I had a professor once say that your world doesn’t “change” when someone you love dies…they “take” the whole world you knew with them. I think REN couldn’t get his bearings when his friend jumped off the bridge they played on. He missed getting to him by 2 minutes. Try to find his post. You’re doing a great job and I love your humility to admit when you don’t feel like you’re able to do a complete analysis. I love watching you. Here I am a 55 year old woman. But, you have a true fan in me.
You did great 😊 if I didn’t already know what it was about I would have a hard time with no context. You felt the eerie haunting feel of the song which is exactly what it is.😊
This song is song up to the last line from the perspective of his friend who committed suicid. In my opinion his friend is telling you he is going through but ASKING how to be me (the old me who is lost). Struggling terrible with thoughts and life in the current form of himself... Following him over the hills and valleys below back to his home....
This is very similar to a duo called The Civil Wars. Exact spooky sound between a male & female and even similar music as this song. It's hard to focus on the lyrics when the vocals are so special!! I couldnt do it on the first listen either!
I've never heard a better description of grief than this song. They fucking nailed it, it's so haunting and beautiful and sad, but allows us to experience a manageable level of grief. Their voices go together so well, so much emotion hits every time
My take is that this song is about trying to deal with his friend's death (he says "I'm talking to the dead"). The last bit is a direct reference to Joe. He is releasing a song Thursday that I believe is also related to this.
Ah, my mate, you will be mind blown by Chinchillas Fingers *Live version* Oooooooo look forward to that one! Bell dinga-linga 🔔 is on, in anticipation 🙌 🫶🇬🇧😊
This was great. I really don't think it's always about getting it all "right". It's about how the music makes you feel. That's more important to me than a breakdown.
This song is about how the living are haunted by those that choose to die and commit themselves to it. It's how the living see the dearly departed everywhere, through the walls, and the floors, and the halls. Over and over again asking themselves what they could have said or done differently afraid to be themselves because they blame themselves to the point where they forget how to be themselves. Haunted
He was 2 minutes away from Joe before he took his life by jumping off the bridge in his own words he ran as fast as he could and was the first there and he still hasn't managed to get past it I think his next track is about what happened!🙏😔
As others mentioned, don’t worry about having to break down every single lyric. I know a lot of reactors like to go in completely cold on a song, but with this one in particular, it does help to have a little background, and I see many commenters have filled you in. I loved experiencing this song with you and loved your reaction. Can’t wait for you to dive into solo Chinchilla ❤🔥
Great reaction! Don't feel bad if you can't break down every line to his songs. Most of what Ren writes he always says he leaves it up to the individual to interpret in their own way. I kinda like seeing you just enjoy the song without thinking about each line & what it means. It could mean 100 different things to 100 different people. 😊
Suicide is a bitch. His next release is a dedication to the same friend he wrote about here. This guy makes me feel ways I haven't felt in a long time, if ever.
Reacting isn't just breaking things down. Feeling intensely, facial expressions, being speechless at the end ... those are very authentic reactions, more so than whatever analysis one might come up with. Don't be hard on yourself. Peace.
I say just watch and listen without trying to react or hypothesize. I was screaming at you to JUST LISTEN. 😂 You don’t need lyrics. They are crystal clear. Just watch and listen. ❤
You don't need to break down every lyric for me; I just enjoy your visceral reactions to the music. Chinchilla is amazing. You will LOVE her song Fingers (make sure it's the Live for Hunger TV version).
Ever notice how you act differently around different people? Some people bring out dimensions of your personality that others don't. Maybe there's a version of you that only comes out when you're with your old mates from school and is otherwise silent. Now imagine you're really close to someone, spend practically all your time together, and then in an instant they're gone. The person who brought out the "you" in you is no more. That's what Ren is dealing with in this song.
I think you’re being very hard on yourself for struggling to get your head round this song and it’s deeper meaning. Unless you know Ren’s background you couldn’t possibly know. Ten went to school with my daughter and as previous comments have mentioned he was running to stop his best friend from committing suicide but arrived just too late. Joe Hughes had jumped off the Menai Suspension Bridge which joins the Isle of Anglesey to mainland Wales 🏴. All you need to do is listen to the end of how to be me to feel even now how much it has affected him. He has other songs dedicated to Joe which you’ll no doubt react to at some point. Ren also has his own well documented health issues to contend with also which is where how to be me speaks of his mental health fog. I love your analysis and interpretations of his music. I also love how you like me are a huge CHINCHILLA fan, I will direct you to one song to hear her range and power it’s called Fingers but you must listen to the”Live for Hunger TV” version. As it states one take, just her and a pianist it will blow you away. Take care from Rich in North Wales 🏴 UK 🇬🇧
THIS is proper singing, no screaming, no shouting, no vocoders or voice changing, just pure talent.
I'm with you on the last 2 but them first 3 felt prejudice 😂😂😂😂😂
@Mugnify Reacts bro!! chinchillas solo song live version named FINGERS will blow your socks off

My favorite song they do together. Chilling vibes. ❤
Chinchilla has more hand expressions. But Ren is playing the guitar. The range they have is so rare. Love them both.❤
I feel this... You remind us all to remain humble... There's no way we can all know everything ..or anything about everything... Sometimes we just feel it, whether or not we can explain it.

Best thing ( For Me ) is how the live versions of Ren's songs sound soooo much better, gotta be real talent and hard work

RIP Joe Hughes 🖤
This was great.
I really don't think it's always about getting it all "right".
It's about how the music makes you feel.
That's more important to me than a breakdown.
Fingers live version by chinchilla is best thing I heard in long time. Must reaction
When I said the “bridge they played on” I meant they played the song on the actual bridge he jumped from.
I add in my call for Chinchilla ‘Fingers’.👍🦇
The closed caption for this video is actually on point. Being hearing impaired, it helped me a lot.

chinchilla song live version named FINGERS will nlow your shoes off
No mainstream shite can beat that simple as! Renegades !rule!
This is about grief and the guilt that goes along with it

Suicide is a bitch. His next release is a dedication to the same friend he wrote about here. This guy makes me feel ways I haven't felt in a long time, if ever.
Some break down so much they sound like grade school teachers talking to children. I think your reaction was very good 👍🍷. Thanks for your reaction 😀
the best tanya is her first number one and most controversial "Will you lay with me" she was 15 I think ruclips.net/video/x0dkj6Q-ldw/видео.html
I’ll watch you also doing the lyric video, please do. 🙏
Ren is actually 10 yrs older 😊
People put on alter egos for public eyes! Not all thou!😊
About Ren's very good friend who took his own life jumping from a bridge.
You don't need to break down every lyric for me; I just enjoy your visceral reactions to the music.

Man, have you only listened to Miyagi once and that's it??it won't work !!!no no...listen to their album with clips Yamakasi and Hattori !
Personally not bothered about ur break down mate, prefer seeing raw reactions
