I agree with him, until the viewership increases and either meta or player skills stabilize to the point that patch changes make or break a team, then it would be a bad investment.
Not stay the same but I agree that it's pretty consistent. The meta shifted to the SG and AUG a few months ago, they then nerfed the Aug and just today pushed out an update which elevates the price of the SG to 3000. They also made the galil and famas better. And don't get me started on new maps. Vertigo was and still is, a mess for competitive play because how frequently they made changes to it.
He’s saying its a too risky investment in America, with patches changing the meta making it inconsistent and how Americans pale in comparison to the evidently more successful foreign countries. Honestly his argument is valid and sound.
Teams in other countries operate at a loss too, but they were never meant to be profitable in the first place. Teams in China and Korea are backed by large corporations, and are simply a cheaper form of advertisement. Emerging region teams are the same, but with the double whammy of paying next to nothing for players, staff, and equipment. European teams are probably somewhere in the middle.

Like faze
john superhist the thing faze has going for them is that faze operates in more of the entertainment industry than a regular e-sport org. At the end of the day they do focus heavily on content and merch which only empowers the brand. There’s plenty of e-sport orgs that haven’t been able to create an almost household name brand outside of the gaming community.
It’s a gamble plus you have millions of dollars being put into a teams that might not even win a 1m prize pool.
kosher they are the first profitable esports organization because they focused on content
Divine Church exactly there’s plenty of esport orgs that have come and gone mainly Bc nobody outside the gaming community knew them. It’s tough to market yourself to sponsors if nobody knows who you are.
it will be huge in the future. never forget that conventional sports took literally centuries to become what it is today.
im honestly glad that a man of this age recognizes esports as a real thing, too much bullshit towards esports these days no matter what game
1:04 , he is right, OPTIC GAMING WAS bought and the start consolidating within weeks. They dismantled the GEARS TEAM. AND THEY were basically unbeaten ( almost) but they were beyond dominant.
Hes done his research and isnt just a boomer, fair play
I love how he is so educating when many people in his age group put down esports as just games, one though, overwatch grand finals had around 1.2 average viewers not 300,000
1:55 trust me, we know 😂😂😂
Mark is right about constant meta shifts being too volatile for investment. Yet at the same time, a stale meta that never changes can also be a turn off for viewership. I wonder if Mark would prefer game rebalancing once a year (since he's already suggested once every 4 months is too fast) or if like other sports there *isn't* any changes...
this guy legits says what i think... Damn even on his show when i watch it he is saying what i'm thinking at that time. The only dif is that he is a billionaire and i'm not xd
Maybe you will be rich someday ,who knows
@@bigfloppa874 thanks even though it would be harder since I live in a trash country with 0 opportunities and poor background
@@SkillsofAesthetics I don't think Cuban would have a problem if he was in your shoes, sounds like there IS another difference besides being a billionaire, he has a better winners mindset. You've already accepted and embraced defeat before you've begun. Depressing.

where can I watch the full interview?
This mavericks fanguy has some real understanding about e-sports btw
He the owner of the mavericks
@@nathandaguerre4368 whoosh
I think that was the joke lol
He’s 100% correct. That’s why all large scale esports organizations sign content creators aswell, as that can be a steady reliable source.
He forgot to mention. NA sucks in all kinds of esports.
Watchu mean. No one can best us in madden
@@JerryDaBes yeh. because only americans play this gane
USA kinda slapped South Korea and China in OWWC tho
Astralis dominated CSGO
OG breaks everyone in DOTA
SKT the greatest team in LOL
The big 3 of Esports. Liquid roster in dota before are not even fron america.
I agree with him, until the viewership increases and either meta or player skills stabilize to the point that patch changes make or break a team, then it would be a bad investment.
mans a shark for a reason..always chooses his kill wisely
Ironic you comment that considering he was the person who threatened to leave Shark Tank due to the "deals being too sharkish".
Wow Cuban clearly does his homework (as if it wasn’t already evident from his success)
These shark tank dudes didn’t get rich by coincidence, y’all need to stay woke
guy foresaw this YEARS prior to this interview too
CS:GO is probably the only game in esports where the meta stays the same.
Grant introducing pocket awp
Rocket League?
Nope not really damages of guns can affect everything
Not stay the same but I agree that it's pretty consistent.
The meta shifted to the SG and AUG a few months ago, they then nerfed the Aug and just today pushed out an update which elevates the price of the SG to 3000. They also made the galil and famas better. And don't get me started on new maps. Vertigo was and still is, a mess for competitive play because how frequently they made changes to it.
pretty sure that isnt true. Spacewars had the most stable meta. It has never changed.
"To make a lot of money you have to devote 10 hours a day to it"
That's only a couple hours more than the average workday lol.
Exactly
@TheGonzo I know how to do basic multiplication. An extra 500 hours a year isn't much
mpforeverunlimited he said “not have a life” so he’s talking more about the social aspect of it. at least at work you still have a social life
God damn, this dude knows all these teams, games, streaming services, like damn.
This dude does his research
My man looking for billions especially if he’s putting in millions
Ppl out here saying he's rly knowledgeable about this stuff but he did say "fortnite isn't really an e-sport" when it had the biggest reports event in history.. The other stuff was pretty accurate thoh.
The game itself is still not esport. It's RNG based, from weapon spawns and shooting mechanics itself
I mean there's another good reason on why its great that he didn't buy a LoL team in the US. Its cause they suck ass compared to the rest of the world. Not much can be done when the best team US can't even get out in groups, maybe not owning a team is a good idea.
Props for doing his research! Not many people do.
He looks tired lol
Of course, he works hard and is under constant stress on maintaining his success. I'd be tired and stressed like that too.
Many people in the world look tired all time. Not everyone is a billionaire.
@Michael Barrutia It's sad, time flies.. I thought he was in his early 50s but he's 61..
stockholm publishings damn crazy he getting old
@Vanda Dy Thanks to denial, I'm immortal :D
As an avid OWL fan, I gotta give mad respect to his points and knowing what meta is and the realities of e sports
I dont know so imma take his word for it
Very commendable that he does his homework and doesn't just bitch about something for the sake of opposing it. An impressive man.
