They aren't in the habit of writing throwaway or suggestive lyrics. They have certainly tackled mature subjects -- addiction with Black Holes, domestic violence with Copper Bullets (none of which they've had personal experience with; it's from reading), alienation with XXICB and Evolve, the entire Queen of the Murder Scene album -- but they don't do it in any kind of prurient or sensationalistic way. Terrific role models, and there are at least a few young bands who have been inspired by them.

The winner of the completion then challenged Paulina to a drum off using a drum routine she wrote. It was a head to head drum off. The other girl obviously thought she had a huge advantage. Great reaction guys. I'm like you in that I am not generally a fan of heavy percussion or hard rock/ metal music. So I was quite surprised when I found that I love this band. When I first heard their song "Choke" I was afraid it was too heavy, but I couldn't stop listening to it. The same happened with "Evolve." Since discovering The Warning I have tried listening to other popular contemporary rock bands, but I'm not a fan. However, I listen to The Warning every day. Getting to know their back story and personalities has cemented my fanboy status.

The range of styles The Warning produces is astounding. If you want softer piano or acoustic guitar ballads, check out: Blackholes, Show Me The Light, Crimson Queen. For a great classic rock sound try: When I'm Alone, Our Mistakes or The End. For Harder Classic Rock sound try: UGH, Dull Knives, Hunter or Queen of the Murder Scene. For a great rock sound try: XXI Century Blood or Survive.
Any of their songs are great, and I don't say that lightly. They literally have never released a bad song. For an Acoustic Ballad, and next on the Queen of the Murder Scene Album after Dust to Dust, try Crimson Queen ruclips.net/video/N0MJXxfcKEQ/видео.html

It's cool to see how you're open-minded to get into that kind of music. Actually the three mostly stated influences by the band, are not even that heavy: Queen, Muse and My Chemical Romance. That the famous Metallica cover went viral was more a chaotic coincidence. They did numerous covers of 80s and 90s songs back then mainly for their friends and family. However, the unexpected success of the "Enter Sandman" cover open the big doors for them, e.g. they got invited to the Ellen show that in turn paid a summer seminar at Berklee Music College for them. After that they knew, they could do this for a living.
Musically, they alway went for a hard rock sound. They never tried to be a full on heavy metal band. Also "Evolve" is much more a hard rock song than a Metallica type song. The metal elements and the sometimes harder sound is probably more a sign of the modern music scene, where metal is more popular than rock and harock is more popular if it includes metal sounds. Definitely some of their songs could be played on rock as well as metal streams or radio.

    • @robertkrawitz8237

Your reaction to this song is very similar to mine. It's too heavy, but I like it. I really believe part of the appeal is understanding the story of the band, and knowing the personality of the band members. I find myself rooting for their success, which means stretching my comfort zone. I said in an earlier post that I do not gravitate to heavy rock or metal music, yet this band pulls me in and I find myself rocking out to their music. I especially enjoy the breakdown in the middle of the song. The drums and Pau's scream are so primal. I normally could care less about a scream, but it fits in the context of the subject matter of the song. I applaud you gentlemen for being open-minded about music that stretches your mind and your comfort zone, because it reminds me to do the same. Cheers!

I actually like hearing from reactors that are honest about what their music preferences are, and admit that though 'not their thing or 1st choice' enjoy music for what the band is trying to achieve. TW has told us that their latest work is their heaviest to date, more metal/hard rock. Evolve hits those nails pretty squarely. From awesome drum fills, a great bass break down--- you know something is coming, but what!-- to old school guitar revs..then the Pau scream! Who was expecting that!? TW are just a treat to watch! Funny thing, the drummer has brought attention because of her VERY clean technique, and also being a power force for the band, because of how strong she delivers, but… she’s the tiniest of them, barely one and a half meter tall!! 😅
On the other hand: Alejandra, the bassist has gained a huge attention because of, despite de bass usually being a not that notorious instrument, at least not that much as guitar and drums, there are some favs that had brought a powerful attention to her: she’s the youngest one, she’s just 16, and of course when they were young girls she was the tiny one of them, some even where amazed her bass would be bigger than her, but suddenly she grew way much more than her sisters, but also developed an on stage style and presence that makes her look both mysterious and elegant. And being the tiny one before, and some even commented how she was even smaller than her bass, but also incredibly talented playing it. It might not be that obvious at their two recent videos for their upcoming album, but at some old videos and at some Instagram and other videos where she can be seen just practicing, it’s pretty clear she’s WAY MUCH MORE TALENTED than many older bass players. There’re even some cases where playing very complex bas lines, and because of being that tiny and her hand wouldn’t be able to go from one note to the other, she makes it even more difficult moving her hand from the low side of the bass’ arm to the upper side so she cannot play the notes, and she makes it look like no effort needed to do it! So yes, every one of them is getting to show how strong are together as a team because of being amazing each one of them at their own instruments. They’ll become a very important band in no time; por many people they’re already the band that will bring back rock to scene after being surpassed for the last years by pop and reggaeton.

Greetings again from Fresno, California. Another great reaction/review Brit Pops! Interesting you are keen on the drummer Paulina. She is the primary progenitor of most of The Warning songs; on the piano at that. On her songs, she starts with an idea, a chord structure, the general arrangement, a melody, a verse and a chorus; with nothing set in stone yet. She brings it before her sisters; where each part is transposed from piano onto bass and guitar. As the song evolves, each instrument's part is hashed out by all 3 sisters together and does not get the final okay until there is unanimous approval. So they all write the drum part. They all write the guitar part. They all write the bass part, the lyrics... and so on... until every part of the song is "okayed" and has each sister's blessing. Paulina has said something along these lines; that without her sisters, her songs would not appear to resemble what they do today.
This is the 2nd single off of their yet to be released 3rd full-length LP. "We wrote - EVOLVE - about humanity's dangerous obsession with evolving... and how sometimes that evolution leads us to slowly leave our humanity behind. Is this dehumanizing evolution right or wrong?"
The Villarreal sisters are amazing songwriters and performers. Each one of their original songs is a banger. Their second album, "Queen of the Murder Scene", is a concept album. It follows a girl's journey into unrequited love from infatuation and obsession on into stalking and murder, then madness and psychosis and eventually suicide. It is a masterpiece. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 Independent Music Awards. Their 1st full-length LP, "XXI Century Blood", is also very good and is packed with many great songs. Their very 1st released recordings are from their 6 song EP, "Escape the Mind"; and it is amazing. Despite being courted by numerous offers from many major record labels, The Warning have stayed independent through the years; relying on crowd funding to finance their projects. They refused to give up creative control over their material ... down to even the clothes they wear on stage. After 7 months of negotiations, The Warning signed a 5 album recording contract with Lava/Republic Records/Universal Music Group last fall. We are all patiently awaiting their 3rd album release.
The Warning do not come from a family of musicians, however, their parents are huge fans of classic rock. Both parents are professionals (civil engineer and dentist) and they enrolled their daughters into a private Catholic English speaking school Liceo de Monterrey, Mexico. They also started the girls with classical piano lessons at ages 5, 5 and 3 years old. Regular family functions included gathering around the TV with popcorn and watching LIVE concert dvds of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and AC/DC. When their parents got them the video game Rock Band at ages 8, 6 and 3, they went nuts playing it obsessively. A year or so later, they got "real" instruments with lessons from professional teachers: and the rest is history. Amazing they are just 21, 19 and 16 years old now and have already written and arranged 44 original songs all by themselves! I was fortunate enough to get to meet them after their show January 16th, 2020 at The Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, California. Aside from their music, they are just normal, sweet, intelligent and fun-loving young ladies who are truely grateful and endearing to their fans.
Looking forward to watching you discover more of this great band Brit Pops!

Actually there influences are more with bands like Muse & The Foo Fighters and this video was produced independently of the record company using 16 iPhones and 1 Drone in a parking garage in their hometown, by their manager Rudy and their team, their mom even helped modifying the costumes. Regarding this being to heavy, for me personally the heaviness is not the main thing, the fact that it is clearly still melodic or not is the main factor. For example Nightwish have some really heavy songs, but they are still clearly well composed and melodic, so I still love them.

Yes, Pau, The drummer can bring too much of the attention because of the great way she plays, but like I already said at other comment here, Ale, the bassist is also quite an amazing musician. This video can give you a glimpse of that, she’s so small at that show they gave at their school 6 years ago, when she was 10 years old that for some bass lines she needs to change her hand from below the neck of the bass to the upper side, and she, having to make it even more difficult, and with a very complex song at the bass like this one from Muse…. And she makes it look like it’s easy, that’s how good she was even with just 10 years!! And actually they already knew and played this song TWO YEARS BEFORE, when they were just 13, 11 and 8 years old!!! There are some emerging adult bands that could have a hard time trying to play this song, and this little girls could do it since they were so young, performing for their classmates at school!! Other girls at their age would be doing some school theater work… but no, they bring a great rock show at school!!

Not bad, though there are some weaknesses as I see it. The vocals are okay, but I feel that is as far as they can go for the moment. The effect might have been better, if there were softer parts for contrast. The song is a bit formulaic anyway and the arrangement is limited because there's only one guitar. The song could have pofited from a real solo, too. The drums are very prominent in the mix, and I'm not sure that was the smart thing to do here as it adds to the impression of a rather simple structure.
The bass player does a really good job alternating between more rhythmic parts and playing along with the guitar. That helps a lot. And the energy is high and feels real. Overall it's a nice song to listen to.
I'm not a fan of the video, I have to say. They are beyond the stage where they need to show that they can play. This looks like a RUclips dream, not so much like a rock video. Or maybe I'm old.. ;)

Dean Wolfe, who has a reaction channel focused on progressive rock, loves this song because, in his view, it is unpredictable. I understand your comment about softer parts breaking up the song. It struck me that in "Evolve" the band replaced softer sections with breaks and changes in time signatures to break the song up without slowing it down or softening the beat.

But back to the structure "problem". "It struck me that in "Evolve" the band replaced softer sections with breaks and changes in time signatures to break the song up without slowing it down or softening the beat." That's a good argument. And of course the song is not simple in that respect anyway. They do play with time signatures, they make interesting chord choices. I've already mentioned the bass, which I think is very well done and adds different elements at different times. But I still don't feel very surprised overall. After listening again I think it has to do with the melody , but I also feel that I've heard a lot of songs pretty similar to this one - which is hard to avoid with a guy my age, so it's not a strong argument, I admit. :)
