Edit: I’m probably gonna make a part to but not about Alien hominid invasion, because this game is like beyond dead lol. I’d rather make a video talking about the current weird state of the behemoth and it’s following after seeing the reaction to their “Roadmap” stream they did where it seems like castle crashers was the only talked about aspect of it
at one point in time i was in that server and wanted to answer cc questions and help people with the cc part specifically. i was striked for talking about mods, left, rejoined later and was striked again for asking "how" to amanda telling me its against discord TOS to mod castle crashers. of course you cant post anything with a mod in it in that server or you get striked, even custom heads for battleblock theatre which is an INTENDED FEATURE will get taken down and possibly striked for. i do a lot for the castle crashers community, i am even the owner of the castle crashers wiki discord server. it makes me incredibly sad seeing how the mainstream server is being handled, and i wont ever rejoin unless amanda and sarah start to actually care or people that do care step in and they step down.
yeah i wouldnt be surprised, but that being said if you cant understand the difference between something so distinct as modding and piracy, and cant even explain how or where it is in discord TOS, then i dont think your suited for the job.
@@danastyone3179 I re-checked The Behemoth's community rules and it says " Do not discuss or post hacking, exploits, modification, or piracy of our games and other software, and do not reference illegal activities and substances. " so I guess they changed it so modding talk is just not a thing anymore even without TOS
@@destri9765 that makes sense, but still *why* though? like all mods do is engage the community with new experiences for the game, which keeps it fresh, which gets people talking about it more, which brings in more people putting money in their pocket. at least they did make the rules better, but it still makes no sense. and i know its not a legal thing because there is steam workshop, and official mod launchers on steam itself. it would do them no harm to allow mods, let alone simply mentioning that they exist, and i know this aint your fault and you dont have involvement with it either, im just stating that its dumb that this is a thing their doing yknow
i didn't love invasion either but a large fraction of this video just felt really vindictive and unnecessary. this isn't problems with the "community", this is your beef with specific people that you mention or show on screen, names included. i respect your points about the game and all but i can't take it seriously when it's framed with equal importance to your random hyper-specific discord arguments (and the behemoth themselves *definitely* won't)
I get where you’re coming from, yet the community section of this video is mainly the stuff I could talk about. (which after reading this comment and strafing away from the community for a while after this, a-lot of the stuff I mention is either personal stuff or preference. I feel like I Could have at least hinted to the types of things that happened) There’s a noticeable cut to a black screen in the community section of the video, I originally had a 9 minute+ section talking about some of the pedophile shit that happened and harassment of certain people. Btw if you’re wondering why I’m only mentioning discord, thats because it’s the main meeting grounds for the community itself, since on other social media’s is just people asking for CC2 or Invasion on PS4. If I ever make a follow up video I’ll make a less schizophrenic script about the community and actually talk about things like how stamper actually stopped working for the behemoth, this videos reception (since the managers didn’t really take it well), and or hint at other things that’s happened within the member base. Feel like this video could work without the community section tbh
I think another problem with Invasion is just how much visual noise it has. A bunch of particles and lasers and whatever else to the point that it's sometimes hard to understand what's happening.
I remember seeing a review for invasion on steam that said “Sensory Overload: The Game” lol. I agree man, sometimes there is just too much stuff on screen to comprehend. I’d assume they left all that in just to refer to this game as ‘a chaotic run n gun game’
i understand what you mean by lack of variety in content but to say it’s unfinished is a bit of an overstatement. when compared to most games today this game is quite polished and finished just lacks meat on its bones. i would love to see different environments a ton more different bosses like area specific bosses. a snowy area where all the agents wear sweaters and then some sort of snow related boss. it just needs a little more content for it to be solid
To me, the game feels unfinished because it feels like it’s missing stuff, I had played the 3 demos they had put out and all 3 were just the main game but with a tiny bit less content which makes the final game feel like a one or the beta/demos for the game (which is why I think the price in way too high). But my opinion is definitely influenced by the lack of variety and content that the final game has.
Basically the same thoughts I have about Behemoth right now. I can't believe at how underwhelmed AHI was and it makes me worried that Behemoth lost their talent at making great games, and some of the community circle jerking in defense of it is weird. And Amanda and Sarah being mods confuses me as well.
With Update 2 AND a community contest alongside it, the peak player count after the update as of writing (May 2) was 98. Update feels largely more of the same without any substantial shakeup in the formula, and the new boss not appearing at the HQ is a serious missed opportunity in an already repetitive game. They buffed the stat values of boost equipment by around 30% for most of them at max tier, but what is there to use these buffed boosts on? I think they really need a serious shakeup of the loop if they plan on reaching 3 digit player count again for any serious stretch of time.
I had no idea about this behind the scenes stuff. I kinda just took all the Behemoth games at face value for what they were. Which I did notice the ever shifting personality of these games over time, being more "quirky" in a way unlike the older ones that is. I keep being proven right in basically not interacting with any community of anything ever.
So, I have recently (as of just before the roadmap during the steam summer sale) went back and got Battleblock and Castle Crashers on my PC because I loved these games as a young man. I was so happy, and so excited to play them, that I sunk probably ~75 hours into both, and I got the insane solo star achievement on battleblock. I then picked up pit people, which I did enjoy because I was able to put my own twist onto some of the characters and I thought it was fun cruising around and beating the tar out of random enemies or whatever. But I have had my fair share of terrible encounters with fanbases on discord especially, and it does sadden me to see the behemoth in this state. I seriously hope in the name of good fun and the silly charm their classics had, that they are able to pull something amazing off with their next game. But, to round off my original thought, thank you for talking about this, as there would’ve been no way I could’ve known about the poor state of the community managing at Behemoth. Hopefully they can turn it around.
3:40 "It gave it so much personality and helped it stand out from the other indie games like Gish. Wich destroyed this thing in IGF." LOL, great video! I agree with the game lacking content - there's so little weapons in the game which is worrying for a roguelike that is supposed to be replayed over and over.
one thing about alien hominid invasion that i despise the most is the REDESIGN. they removed literally everything that made them unique and just turned them into battleblock theater characters but without any of the charm. the old alien was expressive and actually looked good
Eh, I have been having fun with invasion and I haven't been part of the behemoth discord so that doesn't really effect me. I also quite like the music of all behemoth games including invasion but taste is subjective.
The Behemoth Games These are the people who continue to make flash games as they were for many years then, they are the ones who preserve them in history. ❤
My issue is that levelling in pit people doesn't matter & Variety was sparce. The key gameplay loop could've been better if there was an end game or something to progress. Castle Crashers was £10 and as teens we got our moneys worth levelling and unlocking characters and finding items & pets, coop was a cherry on top with insane mode on new game plus you always felt progress even though the characters all played the same. AHI the level design felt uninspired, the rouge like elements seemed tacked on so they can say they did that genre of game. The screen gets cluttered and blends with the background too easily which made co-op more frustrating than fun. Something just didn't feel right and with pit people having a similar launch I think an early access release would've been more honest to the customer. I noticed the Behemoth go with the AAA game tactic of we'll patch it in later approach. As for an indie studio we all know that they'll do a pseudo castle crashers sequel eventually if sales don't go to well. As for now I'm sad that this is the first game I refunded with my friend group who love their titles. This ain't it chief maybe after 7 updates down the line it'll be worth a buy on sale. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week.
As the head of a tiny studio, I hope to avoid the pit falls of The Behemoth. I really loved them as a kid. I played Castle Crashers so many times. By the time Pit People came around, I just kinda stopped caring. Upon reflection, I think I saw the writing on the wall.
As someone who LOVES Alien Hominid I agree with many points in this video. I was excited for AHI and played it when the first few demos dropped. I eventually realized when the game released I practically played the whole game within those short bursts of playing the demos. It was really disappointing. One point I don’t see a lot of people bring up that I’m glad you did was the redesign of the Alien (and AHI’s overall artstyle) the Alien Hominid always looked cute but had a mix of feralness to it as well. It LOOKS like a creature that would bite your head off if you looked at it funny. Alien’s design in AHI just goes 100% for cuteness and it doesn’t even do that well. Hell, I’d argue it looks extremely corporate and soulless. It’s sad too since they had a good design for Alien in Castle Crashers they could’ve used as a baseline for Invasion. Overall I was more excited when they announced a port of Alien Hominid HD than the release of Invasion.
ur animations are sick and i pm agree with all the points regarding the game. idc for all the discord shit tho cus discord servers are garbage in general so expecting anything else is kinda hopeless
Good video explaining everything to the best of your ability paired with great animation. Only nitpicks I have are the need for a seizure warning at the Kitty and the Squirrel segment, and maybe not using words like “retarded” or “autistic” as insults. The last one is more of a personal thing, being someone with autism and hearing my disorder as an equivalent to “stupid” and such is quite hurtful and can be considered a bit ableist. Apart from that…. Great work!
@@NathAnarchy45 imo, a cc2 could be made by behemoth, but idk if they’ll make it in a way that will satisfy their fans, since this sequel failed to reach an audience outside of the behemoth sphere and also didn’t satisfy the fans. Dan said in an interview that he’s down to make a cc2 but I’m very against that. Yeah cc2 would probably make them tones of money but that would seem like a “sell out” thing to do. I think they should still make original games without this randomly generated stuff cause if they made a cc2 they’d most likely ruin the game with that concept
This video has been stuck on my mind for several months now. I'm finally going to get my opinions off my chest. Over these months I really tried to incorporate your points, but, the more I think about it, less do I feel sympathy for this video. I consider your decision of making a "rant" video style to be a horrible choice, because, despite probably showing only honest opinions, you present them in a way that your video has many unnecessarily melancoholic and dramatic parts. So much that most parts of the video are not even worth commenting about, since they are just subjective claims to make the video feel much more harsh than it needed to be. I honestly believe that you'd have constructed so much more positive things with the influence of your video if it showed the exact same arguments, but with a kind and respectful approach. The Behemoth Discord server does feel pretty uninteresting, but that's a phenomenon that happens to plenty of Discord servers in general. Whenever I enter Discord, I really struggle to not feel bored when there is nobody interesting online, despite having many active servers out there. That's just how Discord servers are and I don't see anything different with the Behemoth Discord server. And yeah, I can see how the Amanda and Sarah controversy is real. Especially since I also got banned for one day once for a really stupid reason aswell (basically they didn't want to talk with me about a solution I was proposing. They just wanted to get that over with and leave it at that), and also because someone told me about that NSFW situation; both of these before I even watched your video for the first time. But I personally don't have hard feelings against Amanda and Sarah, so as long as they redeem themselves and learn from their mistakes, I am totally chill with them running the community management and I will enjoy each and every post they make that fits my interests. And yes, I was also not around Behemoth Discord server when Shane was there (not that I remember), but I was there when Swap (Manuel) and Roxanne were running. And yes, watching them was definitely very magical for me too. Perhaps I was the one guy responsible for people start calling him by his name, because I'd always refer to him as that on their streams and often he would reply to my messages. Good times! Let's briefly talk about Pit People before we go to the 'main event of this video'. In 7:37, you say that the map is randomly generated. This is just objectively wrong and that indicates that you probably haven't done most of the side quests on the game (makes sense, because you admitted that you find them to be boring), which is the best thing Pit People has to offer. Probably what made you think that is the fact that some of the game's structures are present in all maps in totally different locations in comparison to each other. All of those structures only repeat either because their quests start in town or they are key story elements. Other than that, all of the maps are totally different than each other and are not randomly generated. The reason you expressed that you don't like the side quests is because it is the same gameplay but with different dialogue. Well, although I really like Pit People's gameplay, I understand that it doesn't appeal to many people. But that doesn't change the fact that gameplay doesn't have to be the element you try to focus on in this game. So much that the game has an auto-battle feature, and also doesn't pressure you to move your characters, despite trying to evoke the dynamic and chaotic vibe that Behemoth knows how to do. In Solo mode, you can just stand still with your characters forever that nothing is gonna happen (other than the bear complaining, of course). And in multiplayer it takes a reeeally long time for the game to apply a limit, and the cycle seems not to get any faster (so if your partner is AFK, moving is gonna take ages). So, since the game lacks any kind of time pressure, the game opens up for appreciating other elements, such as the visual scenario and the dialogues, with more ease. This is a great contrast from both Alien Hominids (especially invasion), where taking your time to actually appreciate and think about anything while playing a level can be very risky, since you need to be constantly concentrated on the gameplay to not lose. You can not keep getting distracted for too long on these games. So, if you do not enjoy Pit People's gameplay, you can make it up for it by just trying to appreciate something else in the game. Also, the team that Dot has indicated to you works because most teams on this game are meant to be good and solid teams. I actually think your team might not be very solid. Seems to me like an overly aggressive team that could be massacrated in some situations. And Pit People has tons of content, just not in the way you are trying to see it. Like, you could just view the hats and missions by how ridiculously stupid they look and how the general context of the game looks. Instead of looking to a hat by their utility to gameplay, try and just think about their intended or non-intended humor, and for missions aswell. If you manage to set your mind like this, you'll probably appreciate Pit People in such a magical and satisfying way. And if you skip any random dialoge of this game, you might be missing an awesome joke. I personally laugh at almost every mission whenever I get back to this wonderful game. Speaking of jokes, they are so clever, well-build and well thought of that Rexibro said she's cooking a video trying to express how genius and well-written Pit People jokes are (I think she can even make an analogy between Pit People dialogue and Shakespeare!). So really, just let yourself play this game open-mindedly without really trying to overthink the gameplay you don't like. You'll see the true magic of Pit People that only few managed to capture.
[had to cut the comment into two parts because it exceeded RUclips's character limit] Now, let's talk about the 'main event of this video'. Your first take on Alien Hominid Invasion was about how you don't like the artstyle. That's fine, it's your opinion, and I completely disagree with you on that. For me, Alien Hominid Invasion is by far the most visually appealing, most fluid and smooth Behemoth title. You said that it looks like Netflix cartoon, but for me it always resembled more those classic Cartoon Network shows but with Behemoth's take. Now, for the alien's expressions, I don't think there is nothing wrong with them being only the basics and I also don't think that Alien Hominid HD is wildly different in comparison. But of course, I would really appreciate if the alien had more expressions, like actually closing their mouthes for once or dancing after the completion of each level like they did on the first game. I wish they apply those on a future update. And they did add a new basic animation on the new Juicy Variety update, and it looks really silly and fun. I laughed so much at it first time I saw (I'm refering to the 'grind lines' animation). You said the cutscenes don't carry the Behemoth's style. I disagree, and I have played and replayed all of the other games many times before Alien Hominid Invasion was even announced for the first time. For your opinion on the game's weapons, you are very wrong if we analyze the game on how it is today (version 1.3; Update 2; or Juicy Variety). I play this game since the day it was released, but unfortunately I only started to do several tests with each weapon after 1.2 was released, so there is a chance that the weapons, especially the reloading ones as you say, to have been pretty bad when the game was released. But I don't believe that this is the case. I think you just had a bad time with the weapons, using them in the wrong ways and on the wrong situations, and them dismissing them completely. I don't think weapons have received that much of a radical change in 1.2 and prior. The weapons that are given on the early game are mostly pretty solid, like the alien blaster, dual laser, photon gun and human machine gun, but then, as you progress, the game starts delivering guns that are more extreme in exchange of being more situational and not too solid, like the acid gun, collider, minigun and lightning gun. So you really have to comprehend that if you got the wrong weapon on the wrong situation, that doesn't mean it's bad. You have to wisely choose your gear because they radically matter. The only weapon that for me doesn't have sufficient redeeming qualities is the mothership issue. I try to like this weapon and give it a chance, but I really can't manage to like this weapon. Nowadays, in 1.3, I can confidently say that all weapons that require you to reload them are good and satisfying to use, as long as you know how to play with them and you attach the right boosts to the situation you are about to face on the level. There could be several reasons for why you don't feel like you get more powerful when you progress, despite feeling that in the Demo. I never played the Demo because my PC couldn't run it, so I can't know if there was a technical reason for that (perhaps I might find something if I watch and pay close attention to videos from the Demo?). But I believe that one of the reasons is because the loadout inventory doesn't have a proper organization so you kinda just get flooded with boosts' icons really quickly, and that might sabotage your strategy. That happens to me in some way at least. This factor can make you not notice the evolution of your character's gear too much. Your point on heads being attached to stats I completely agree. And fortunately the developers seem to have acknowledged the existence of this problem. I discussed it with Dan Paladin on the Discord server and he said they'll try and solve this problem, but not necessarily in the way we want. Hopefully they'll make so that you can freely choose the head you want without worrying about how they are going to affect gameplay, which was a thing on BattleBlock Theater. How the system currently is makes the game lack a complete dimension of creativity and expression, and disencourages mastery mode. Besides, it is unnecessary due to the fact that the stats are random, rather than inherent to specific heads. I almost never care about the head I'm using, despite the fact that I like all the heads that this game has. I don't see a problem on pigments being on the shop. But they could make a similar system to BattleBlock, where there is a different currency to weapons that there is to heads. Alien Hominid Invasion could make so that you'd have another currency to buy pigments and heads than there is to weapons and boosts. You argue Alien Hominid Invasion isn't hard even on insane, but when you say that you can deal with enemy spam by just "leaving the level" as you emphasize, it's clear that you don't understand the premise of Alien Hominid Invasion. First, on this paragraph, let's take the obvious out of the way: not everyone is a professional gamer. I have played with so many people that are just total noobs at this game. There was a friend of mine that has did 100% in Hollow Knight achievements, but, despite playing Alien Hominid Invasion a lot, still kept sucking at it and not handling insane mode. Yes, of course you can just leave the level without doing the optional extra objective. Yes, of course you can rush your way towards the HQ to not stretch the danger level too much. These are choices you can freely make in the game and there's nothing wrong about them. But you can't say the game is easy if you have just took the easier and more convenient path. You might play on insane difficulty, but you are missing the other difficulty which is the danger level. By stretching the danger level, you are risking faster, tankier enemies with shorter telegraphs for their attacks for better rewards and the feeling of overcoming harder levels. I don't think there is anything wrong with the difficulty system. For me, they all manage to capture what they are proposed to. Of course, would be interesting to see exclusive features to insane mode that make it harder, but again, the system on how it currently is feels good enough. BattleBlock system is also okay, but I consider Castle Crashers' insane mode to be really bad and it makes much less sense than Invasion's system. You take an eternity to kill enemies and they get progressively more tanky, whilst they can kill you in a few hits, making you restart the whole level all over again. And if you don't know how to perform a cheese movement called "light juggling", your life is gonna be much more miserable. Unless you think that it should be a 'literal insane' gamemode instead of a hard punishing one, then I don't think Castle Crashers' insane mode "makes sense" when Invasion's doesn't. When you say "if you know how to roll, this game isn't going to be that hard". This phrase is very ambiguous, but I interpret as if you meant comprehending the game's mechanics and discovering that you can roll up to a "triple roll". Well, yeah, that does make so that you can have much more control over the arena, but that's far from enough. Like, if you only know how to triple roll, sweeper bot is going to screw you over so much because your only form of mobility is going to be interrupted. My personal strategy is to roll as less as I can so I can roll only when an enemy telegraphs their attack. So no, "knowing how to roll" doesn't make you necessarily handle the game with ease. Now let's talk about the 'repetitive gameplay and lack of variety' as you say. Well, let me be honest with you, I had really similar expectations than you had to this game. Alien Hominid Invasion was the game I have mostly hyped in my entire life and I was very sure that they were going to bring back the KGB agents and Area 51 soldiers. I also thought that all that magic that was shown on the developer updates was just the things from the start of the game. My head abstracted and imagined all the things that this game could have. And when I finally got to play I also thought "that's it? There is nothing more?", and suddenly that magical feeling of surprise faded on me too. It's sad that the game doesn't have much and that the assets can start repeating a lot even before you beat the game. When they added the new maps on the new update, those new horizons and alternative city blocks were so good. I really wish that they don't stop updating this game and adding more content to make the game feel refreshed. It's sad to admit that this game really starts to feel the same in these aspects. But no, that doesn't mean the game sucks because it lacks variety and story missions. Alien Hominid Invasion is mostly gameplay focused (a contrast to Pit People, which was story focused on its side quests and had more appeal to jokes and funny realizations instead of total concentration) and can be deeply appreciated. You can keep testing and playing with different boosts and having tons of fun shreding the enemies over and over again until you bypass over 10 million score. That's the fun of the game right there: the smooth gameplay, killing agents, avoid taking damage and learning how to overcome each and every situation that the game can procedurally generate. You said on the pinned comment you're planning to do a video covering the newest update. But I hope you have learnt not to use a "rant" type of video as a template, to actually try to be more open-minded about things and to spit less subjective things that try to emphasize your distaste for something. I hope you learn how to appreciate Alien Hominid Invasion before just saying that the game is bad right away on your next video. And learn how to use the weapons correctly, of course.
The moment you realize they could've spent the time and resources making a Castle Crashers sequel with all those roguelike elements. I dunno man, maybe I'm getting old, but this game is way too chaotic and I have no idea wtf is going on half the time. Keep in mind that I said chaotic, not difficult - I feel like Mercenary Kings is a similar game that's more difficult, but it rewards skill/strategy because the pace is slower.
I thought I was in the minority about alien hominid invasion because I played the full release and bought the game expecting it to be a great game but I literally stopped playing mid way through world 3 because I noticed I was doing the same thing over and over again, and the enemies felt the exact same after 2 worlds of gameplay and another that annoyed me to no end is I tried for the two days I played it to find ANYONE on console to play with and COULDN'T, I tried group posts and there was literally only group posts talking about how this game died! I liked the art but the gameplay gets so monotonous after a couple hours of gameplay and you're already sick of it I should've checked the reviews of this game.... I told my brother my problems with this game and understandably he chose not to get this game because it is the same thing over and over again, I had the exact same problem with 100%ing castle crashers but that's because in order to beat the game 100% you have to beat the game twice per character and you aren't forced to do that to experience the game in castle crashers but in alien hominid invasion YOU ARE
Ngl with alien hominid invaision i feel like the gameplay is good but i really dont like how almost every city block is the same. I would like it if they made different city blocks have different events like flooding in the sewers or the train levels detaching from each other. Dont get me wrong i love the game but theres not much u can do post game and i feel like the hats system should allow u to where any hat but u could have the stats of another hat.
Tbh I feel the repetition but I always had that feeling even all the way back in castle crashers. I played that game to hell and when you go back it really is the same thing over and over but with a different magic, invasion has the same thing with a different gun if you actually want to feel the difference, battle block had level creator and pit people wasn’t the gameplay I was after. If you look back each game had vastly different styles of gameplay to different players. Battle block was just platforms, castle crashers is a beat ’em up, pit people is a turn base and og hominid is just challenging to a degree. Personally I think insane is actually pretty good in this compared to castle crashers. I would rather have it so I need to play better than to forever slap an enemy because haha he has 10x the health. It’s not the biggest game they made but it’s very polished and it does lack the humor in the cut scenes, but battle block had stamper, he legitimately made that story enjoyable. In the end of the day I say for it’s price you get a fast pace beat ‘em up with a little story to play every now and then or just to enjoy when you got some of the bois online or over. I so wish for a castle crasher 2 but I gladly accept this game, for the sword just has a different vibe then to shooting no other beat ‘em up has giving me. As for discord that’s a different world, I never learned that lore.
I feel like invasion is just too expensive for what you get. I’ve seen a couple of people who talk about behemoth games being repetitive in general but I don’t see why that excuses invasion’s repetition. It’s a 20 dollar ‘rouge like game’ that’s had the exact same amount of content as its betas, which I enjoyed more because I though there was going to be more content in the future. Imo HD and CC are behemoths least repetitive games, since they always introduce something new with each level. With invasion, if they didn’t throw everything at you at once or had more enemies/ if you did something different in each level aside from collecting intel I feel like that will eliminate some of the repetition. And tbh the insane mode in any behemoth game is poorly designed to a certain extent, but I do agree after looking back invasions insane wouldn’t feel unfair if the enemy scaling wasn’t soo odd. Edit: I think behemoth should do more stuff with castle crashers since showing by their game numbers it’s their most popular and successful property, but they should not sell out and just make a sequel since I feel like if they did it wouldn’t be as faithful as the original CC and they’d get flak for it similar to how a majority of the community sees invasion. I think they should rather make a spin-off game of CC or release more crashers media outside of the physical releases of the game.
@@kubernikus18 i can understand your point from cc being the least repetitive for sure after all I played it longer than the others and HD I never truly played and don’t consider that one repetitive it’s like the only one with a different type of plot each level. Personally I think 20$ is extremely fair, I mean look at games now costing 70$ for almost no reason and adding all types of micro transactions and dlc but that’s just me. If they do make a new castle crashers I can’t blame them for just saying it’s number 2 but it would be nice to see the new game be very similar but in a different style
I actually don’t have an issue with all the clutter, sure it has way more clutter than castle crashers but my actual issue with the game is lack of content. Castle Crashers has the arena in and out of the story and the other game mode, bbt has a very similar thing with there arena game mode but alien hominid invasion just lacks those things and it’s also way harder then they’re other games as well. I love this game but it could’ve been better
I have not played Invasion yet so I don't know enough to have an opinion on the game itself, but your claims about the game's qualities seem really inconsistent to me. You started by praising the game's public beta and explaining that the features were really fun, only to then explain that the subsequent demo release was pretty much identical to the beta, and that it is now somehow bad. I'm probably misunderstanding a point you're making here, but I don't get how a product being identical to a good thing magically makes it bad. the explanation basically amounts to good=bad.
I definitely could have structured that better, but the reason I say the game was “fun” originally was because the game was still in a demo stage so it was understandable for the game to have that much content in it. The final release is pretty much just the demos which to me results in this game feeling like it’s missing something. The gameplay is still great but the final game just feels like you just fighting the same kind of enemies with nothing of great significance happening or being revealed throughout the gameplay if that makes sense I guess. And the public demo was launched kinda close to the games release, and it pretty much had the exact same amount of content as the previous betas + the final game. Soo going off of that I thought that they had been hiding stuff, only for the final game to just be the demos but with a price tag this time I feel like to fully understand my change in opinion you’d have to have been apart of witnessing the games development
I don't know this video gives me a bad taste in my mouth. I mean I understand it's a "criticism" (if only it didn't have a lot of unnecessary insults), but the way you treat the discord community and that you use the word autism as an insult makes me feel very uncomfortable with this video. I understand it's "humor" but it's weird that you say those things to real people, you really sound very toxic saying that to them.
@@kenrichgumanid9235 behemoth isn’t greedy lol. They just aren’t making games of the same quality as they used to. Like if behemoth were to only do cc stuff (as their fan base kinda wants them to) then they’d be considered as “sell outs” imo. And they are still independent. The behemoth team isn’t a lot of people
Honestly they should just add more content and make it exclusive to certain areas and not just every enemy up your ass the moment you enter a level. I kinda liked Invasion, it was a bit fun for me, but they gotta add more content if they want me to stay.
What is this absolute bullshit. Only thing I like about this video is the little animations. Glad to know that a lot of other people in the comments agree with me.
Thanks for the animation comments. I can see that you like the game from you referring to my video as “bullshit” which I have no problem with, but personally Invasions positive reception is very odd tbh. Since a lot of steam reviews for the game are just people saying “if behemoth can release an alien hominid invasion, they’ll make a Castle crashers 2” and other reviews feel like they praise the bare minimum of the game. (Only thing I disagree with is how people cite other Behemoth games as repetitive to defend invasions monotony for some reason since that argument is mostly based off of preference and not how the game is made). Invasion doesn’t have alot of negative reception/reception in general because people are probably just apathetic towards it, as you can see online, a majority of behemoth fans are more interested in castle crashers/CC content and or their games ported to other platforms like PlayStation. invasion just isn’t getting attention, it’s steam charts page is depressing (pit people literally has better numbers than it) and nobody talks about or reviews it
Pit People)
I assume you’re referring to pit people. I wouldn’t really say it makes the game easy, but it allows your team to have more variety in how you attack the opponent. Regardless of your build, pp’s gameplay loop of moving characters and doing singular attacks to enemies gets boring at some point. Pit people isn’t as engaging as other behemoth games because of this and that’s why I think it turns a majority of behemoth’s fans away. I feel like if there was more to the combat or if the combat was approached in a different way, it wouldn’t feel as repetitive as it does now.
I think alien hominid invasion is a okay game the gameplays fun but it’s just feels like it’s missing content Mabye when a dlc comes out it will be worth 20 but 10 at most I think the future of behemoth is not grim as they clearly like what they do but they need to step it up
Alien hominid invasion (as of now) has made LESS THAN A MILLION DOLLARS. Those numbers are crazy and lets just hope the next behemoth game is better. (If you're wondering, the game made 708k.)
@@aaron6290 many reasons, The game doesn’t reach the standards of the current behemoth fans for example. Could also be the marketing (which was lacklustre), the game failed to reach any one outside the behemoth fanbase cause of this. Like the failure could generally just spawn from the amount of apathy alot of behemoth fans have to their current titles, like when they did that road map stream, the only thing that people were talking about was the cc dlc. I actually want to make another video talking about this since to me it seems like behemoth fans only care for castle crashers stuff, for better or for worse. And also bring up stuff like the SA lawsuit thing from 2019 (which got stamper fired)
@@kubernikus18 Yeah I also noticed they used a different narrator for Battleblock in the roadmap video. yes your right, the game has lack of content and the weapons arent that great. I do enjoy this game a little bit but it just doesnt have much in it. I hope they add some new weapons and abillities in the next update.
@@DaMilkman-ct1lz You can lol, someone already did that and they deleted it. Nothing will happen to you expect the mods probably telling you to not do that.
@@DaMilkman-ct1lz modding that server wouldn’t be that hard tbh. Nobody really types there (well from the last time I checked, I’ve lost interest in what those gents are up to). Barely anyone talks there and when a new guy joins they’ll talk there for like a week or 2.
Castle crashers actually still sells very well to this day, and it’s player count according to steam charts is about 200-1000 active players. The problem is that people aren’t playing/buying behemoth’s newer games, because they either lack content or are boring (pit people had a large following but lost a majority of it, since it differs a lot from behemoths previous games)

@@kubernikus18 that could work really well too. or a game where you play as the bad guys i guess, where you try and reach the castle and take the crystal or something
For one, I absolutely adore The Behemoth art style, Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater are some of my favorite feel-good games to play. Though, I can't help but feel unnoticed by The Behemoth as a Playstation fan. Is there some exclusivity reason we get ignored? Not only have I been late to the past 3 releases because of their poor marketing, but when I actually get excited to purchase them, I'm immediately let down because they're not available on my console (the only one without Behemoth support, CC aside). So much as I would love to engage with the rest of the community, I can't. Also, just from skimming through livestreams of AH: Invasion's development, I've found these community managers are so... uninvolved? Their personalities don't bounce off each other so their commentary is monotone and unengaging, and with the info from this video, it seems like they're just working for a check and not their passions. A studio with their games totaling up to probably not even 40 hours of gameplay, puts people unknowing of their own games as the frontmen to communicating with potential consumers. It's sad to hear this is where The Behemoth stands after all these years.
Im scared for Castle Crashers 2 Man.. i know it most likely wont have the same charm as the 1st one But By the way things have been going Im scared itll be way worse.
Yeah now that I look at it, the Discord server is hella bland. I only post my stuff in art because people really be talking about random nonsense or just corny jokes in general chat. It's like talking to those weird group of kids at the playground. You try to actually start conversations but they're just stale. I do think them locking the discord server right now is just a way for them to take the break off so they don't have to be bothered by anyone. From what you've said about they do about not being active in the weekends really just seem like they're not genuine and are really only doing it so they get money. Another point, I fucking love pizza tower and I was so hyped to see them play it but that stream was so bad, it was like watching my mom try to play fortnite. (She actually plays fortnite)
Doesn’t really matter how you sound lol, I’d rather prefer you explaining your disagreements. I’ve gotten a couple messages from people who disagree with my opinion on Pit People (which made me change my view on the game a bit) and people in these comments also disagreeing with this video (except they don’t really do it in a constructive way). I’m fine if you disagree but it would be better for you to not be vague and state what you are against in my video.
@@kubernikus18 Ok then. A lot of the stuff comes down to personal preference, (like the streams), but the main thing I want to say is that the problem with repetitive gameplay is in every single one of the games that behemoth has made. It’s not a problem specific to pit people or invasion. It’s not *as bad* in the other games sure, but it’s still there. Example: Once you get to the marsh in castle crashers you’re just already done with it mentally, Y’know? Just thaught I should shine some light on this point. Hope this makes sense! Xoxo
@@3thernet_Jak7118 Yeah, I get what youre saying, CC and battle block can get repetitive at some point but they combat this with their variety (CC's bosses, characters and environments and BBT's Level structure), all though their gameloops are very miniature, it doesnt feel like youre doing the same thing withtin a specific level. Invasion on the other hand doesnt have alot of content to it compared to the previous games and almost every level feels copy and paste, which is what increases it's monotony, not to mention this game is supposed to be a rougelike and a rouge like thats repetitive is an instant turn off to me. For the community stuff its just personal preference stuff, not really a fan of what the company does now. but its fine, thanks for explaining yourself
I don't understand why people play castle crashers and say it isn't repetitive and then say this game is its stupid as fuck to say. I like both games, but this is bullshit.
Castle crashers isn’t a game designed with the sole purpose of thriving off of replay value in a single player aspect since it’s a linear game, playing any linear progressive game (Even alien hominid HD and Battle Block’s story mode) over and over again will obviously result in the game feeling like it has a repetitive nature. But in Invasions case it’s supposed to be a rougelike, and is supposed to feel refreshing after every level. Since all the levels in invasion look near identical and contain the same type of enemies that barely have any individual significance, the game feels like each level is almost the same as the last
@@SpectronPrime “BRO I CANT COMPREHEND MESSAGES LONGER THAN 20 WORDS, I AINT READING ALLAT”. Ok I guess Cc is obviously gonna get repetitive if you play it a lot, all linear games have that effect. Cc isn’t a game that’s designed to have infinite replay value. Invasion on the other hand is supposed not be repetitive but the game lacks in content makes it monotonous
@@SpectronPrime "I don't understand an opinion" *the person explains their opinion and why they said what they did* "I ain't reading allat" the words of a man who buries his head in the sand and refuses to listen, I reckon
You know I played Alien Hominid Invasion with Randoms once after playing the game for only a few hours , was not vary good and I somehow got an all yime top 20 best level team score.
Kinda true tbh. I literally payed full price for this game expecting something good only to get it half baked. And I can’t even refund it at this point.
@@helpme6759 so why are you calling him butthurt for giving criticisms on this company and the game itself then? Every point made in this video is just straight up objectively true
At this point if a cc2 were to be developed by them it would honestly be a 50/50 chance the game is actually good. Since people have to get that behemoth doesn’t make the same game twice. I don’t think behemoth would make cc2 in a way that will satisfy their fans/general cc fans, especially with their usage of random generation currently
I can confirm they(Amanda and Sarah) have seen it but idk if they saw the full thing. In the server someone threw the link there and they deleted it, which is understandable. And all they said was they are just doing their job to dodge my criticisms
Dawg, if I was a troll I wouldn’t make a 30 minute video with literal animated segments of me “reviewing” a game. I love the behemoth and their games but to see invasion release in a state where it feel like it’s missing the content needed to make this game great is really disappointing. Seems very weird of you to claim that I’m joking lmao. I payed pretty much 20 bucks for a game that I’ve been following the development of for 3 years. Only for it to realise with the near same content as its public betas and demo. I though pit people would be a learning experience for them when it came to using randomly generated content. And if you want proof, buy the game yourself for full price and tell me if you think a game of that size is worth a 20 dollar price tag and check the steam charts for all their games, Castle crashes and battle block theater’s player counts have a consistent 100-500 active player average compared to HD, Pit people and invasion which average 2-90 or less active people. People in the castle crashers community literally hate the state the main community is in right now, and hate how invasion released too. They recently did an art competition related to pink knight and they got way more submissions than they did for the invasion art competition they did last year. It goes to show that their fan base really wants something like CC2 or even just a spin off thing of castle crashers. Why do you think 13 year olds join their server and or reply to their tweets asking for CC2 or even their games on PlayStation, which I forgot to mention, although I don’t really know the process of porting games to a system, behemoth should really start putting their games on PlayStation to attract more of that side of their community. The past 5 years of behemoth haven’t been going great. Like pit people, Invasion had a strong following in its beginning only for it to be lost when people realised how the game would be released. I guess you could say that behemoth lost their “magic”, which isn’t true at all. Behemoth have just got to stop focusing on their games having replay ability with the use of randomly generated garbage, since it just ends up making their games feel monotonous.
One of my biggest problems with alien hominid and castle crashers while very stylized , the bosses in alien hominid just fucking suck and just feels shitty overall like I love metal slugs so I can get into the game after learning how a boss works but the bosses suck , castle crashers have a couple of bosses that are lame annoying or feel like shit , kinda bad designed games Im it’s not awful but compared to other indie games behemoth games have pretty bad gameplay designs , I like the art for the most part but eh after battle block theater I lost interest in they’re game
Lol the first 100% negative comment! I wouldn’t say behemoth’s game design choices are bad per say but their games aren’t developed to be complicated af. Which is passable since their games aren’t massive, they’re essentially party-game-like games meant to be played with friends for a session, but the reason this kind of simple game design doesn’t work in alien hominid invasion is because even though that cc, ahhd and battle block have very standard/simple gameplay, they always manage to shake up each level with something different. Compared to invasion where almost every level feels near identical to the last. But ehh, your view is very subjective tbh, soo I get where you’re coming from on the other hand.
@@kubernikus18 it’s weird I definitely get what you mean, I mean I don’t hate the games I loved castle crashers and alien hominid when they came out but I can say they aren’t god awful just shit about them that annoy me basically like you said it is very subjective, you can simply say eh ,not that annoying to me or something and fair enough lol just saying my opinion still respect the games a whole like I love newgrounds and this being a newgrounds indie title is definitely super cool and innovative but I still have my gripes and criticisms
Understandable, I know a lot of people who are pit people fans and I definitely get why they like the game. Don’t let this video change your opinion on it tho.
I think they are confusing Piracy and modding, talking or promoting Piracy is actually against the discord TOS but modding should be completely fine
yeah i wouldnt be surprised, but that being said if you cant understand the difference between something so distinct as modding and piracy, and cant even explain how or where it is in discord TOS, then i dont think your suited for the job.
@@danastyone3179 I re-checked The Behemoth's community rules and it says
" Do not discuss or post hacking, exploits, modification, or piracy of our games and other software, and do not reference illegal activities and substances.

"Me head feels like an alien hominid"
- Dan fulp
I can confirm that Dan’s head feeling like an ‘alien hominid’ is what made them come up with the idea for hominid
i didn't love invasion either but a large fraction of this video just felt really vindictive and unnecessary. this isn't problems with the "community", this is your beef with specific people that you mention or show on screen, names included. i respect your points about the game and all but i can't take it seriously when it's framed with equal importance to your random hyper-specific discord arguments (and the behemoth themselves *definitely* won't)
I get where you’re coming from, yet the community section of this video is mainly the stuff I could talk about.
(which after reading this comment and strafing away from the community for a while after this, a-lot of the stuff I mention is either personal stuff or preference. I feel like I Could have at least hinted to the types of things that happened)
There’s a noticeable cut to a black screen in the community section of the video, I originally had a 9 minute+ section talking about some of the pedophile shit that happened and harassment of certain people.
Circle jerking is the closest to the truth bro
With Update 2 AND a community contest alongside it, the peak player count after the update as of writing (May 2) was 98. Update feels largely more of the same without any substantial shakeup in the formula, and the new boss not appearing at the HQ is a serious missed opportunity in an already repetitive game. They buffed the stat values of boost equipment by around 30% for most of them at max tier, but what is there to use these buffed boosts on? I think they really need a serious shakeup of the loop if they plan on reaching 3 digit player count again for any serious stretch of time.
As someone who hasn't heard of these games in a long time, nice to be reminded, and cc and bbt are on sale bundled for $5
I had no idea about this behind the scenes stuff.
I think this is might be one of the most underrated quality youtube video I've ever seen. Channel Subbed :)
3:40 "It gave it so much personality and helped it stand out from the other indie games like Gish. Wich destroyed this thing in IGF."
LOL, great video! I agree with the game lacking content - there's so little weapons in the game which is worrying for a roguelike that is supposed to be replayed over and over.
Something tells me they should've taken notes from Risk of Rain
one thing about alien hominid invasion that i despise the most is the REDESIGN. they removed literally everything that made them unique and just turned them into battleblock theater characters but without any of the charm. the old alien was expressive and actually looked good
Eh, I have been having fun with invasion and I haven't been part of the behemoth discord so that doesn't really effect me.
I also quite like the music of all behemoth games including invasion but taste is subjective.
Same here, it’s really just whatever I’m still gonna support them.
The Behemoth Games These are the people who continue to make flash games as they were for many years then, they are the ones who preserve them in history. ❤
Damn it. You finally got me to subscribe!
You should be community manager

Great work!

[had to cut the comment into two parts because it exceeded RUclips's character limit]
Now, let's talk about the 'main event of this video'.

Truly an opus 51 moment
i really do want a GOOD sequel for castle crashers but i also want a good original final game from the behemoth
9:21 Looks like fun ;)
Edit: Now that i have watched this vid twice, i rlly enjoy ur artstyle and humor. It rlly reminds me of old Newgrounds.
I liked the art but the gameplay gets so monotonous after a couple hours of gameplay and you're already sick of it
I should've checked the reviews of this game.... I told my brother my problems with this game and understandably he chose not to get this game because it is the same thing over and over again, I had the exact same problem with 100%ing castle crashers but that's because in order to beat the game 100% you have to beat the game twice per character and you aren't forced to do that to experience the game in castle crashers but in alien hominid invasion YOU ARE
You are so underrated 😂 No way you don’t have 1k yet this is some amazing content
Damn, I was thinking of getting invasion, not anymore until they have a sale on it. Good vid bro
Its on sale for steam but not xbox
Ngl with alien hominid invaision i feel like the gameplay is good but i really dont like how almost every city block is the same. I would like it if they made different city blocks have different events like flooding in the sewers or the train levels detaching from each other. Dont get me wrong i love the game but theres not much u can do post game and i feel like the hats system should allow u to where any hat but u could have the stats of another hat.
This video convinced me to buy the game
i just wish they'd care more about Pit people
Tbh I feel the repetition but I always had that feeling even all the way back in castle crashers. I played that game to hell and when you go back it really is the same thing over and over but with a different magic,
invasion has the same thing with a different gun if you actually want to feel the difference, battle block had level creator and pit people wasn’t the gameplay I was after.
Glad I found this channel I’ll drop a sub
Soo going off of that I thought that they had been hiding stuff, only for the final game to just be the demos but with a price tag this time
I feel like to fully understand my change in opinion you’d have to have been apart of witnessing the games development
Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. My kind of humour is pretty subjective so I get why
Do you feel like The Behemoth is gonna be the AAA thing?
Hmm, what do you mean by this?
They're not even Indie anymore, they're the "greedy company" mindset, or something like that?

I can agree that the behemoth has a “couple” problems with their social media, but their games are amazing
You went and found the absolute best meta build on the internet and complained about it being easy and repetitive?

@@aaron6290 many reasons, The game doesn’t reach the standards of the current behemoth fans for example. Could also be the marketing (which was lacklustre), the game failed to reach any one outside the behemoth fanbase cause of this. Castle crashers actually still sells very well to this day, and it’s player count according to steam charts is about 200-1000 active players.
Ok then.

Jak im a big fan can i have your autograph

Ok I guess
Cc is obviously gonna get repetitive if you play it a lot, all linear games have that effect. Cc isn’t a game that’s designed to have infinite replay value. Invasion on the other hand is supposed not be repetitive but the game lacks in content makes it monotonous
Imagine, the one game they make to be replayable is not fun to replay, im sorry dude, I love the behemoth but ahi is a huge miss

Kinda true tbh. I literally payed full price for this game expecting something good only to get it half baked. And I can’t even refund it at this point.

@@helpme6759 so why are you calling him butthurt for giving criticisms on this company and the game itself then? Every point made in this video is just straight up objectively true
I would not be complaining if the next game were castle crashers 2 lol
At this point if a cc2 were to be developed by them it would honestly be a 50/50 chance the game is actually good. Since people have to get that behemoth doesn’t make the same game twice. I don’t think behemoth would make cc2 in a way that will satisfy their fans/general cc fans, especially with their usage of random generation currently
@@kubernikus18 i'd be willing to take those odds if we can get a good game

This is obviously a troll

@@Antbrat4.0 What
One of my biggest problems with alien hominid and castle crashers while very stylized , the bosses in alien hominid just fucking suck and just feels shitty overall like I love metal slugs so I can get into the game after learning how a boss works but the bosses suck , castle crashers have a couple of bosses that are lame annoying or feel like shit , kinda bad designed games Im it’s not awful but compared to other indie games behemoth games have pretty bad gameplay designs , I like the art for the most part but eh after battle block theater I lost interest in they’re game
