I'm glad these explanations of discrimination are done (mostly) unemotionally. if someone uses illogical or ad hominem attacks while trying to defend their argument then the opposing side stops listening and merely shouts back their own rhetoric. These videos are presented really well and attempt to avoid making judgements themselves so I think they get the information across way more successfully than other people who shout and scream

I don't think that Crash Course is trying to push some political agenda despite their affiliation with PBS who're pretty well known to push an extreme left viewpoint. If information is conveyed then the videos are successful. There's been nothing in any of these videos that would make me change my political stances, but there's lots of information, and it helps to get a better understanding of the political context. What these guys are doing is great. I know they're politically left leaning, but they're putting a good effort into not letting that get in the way - it'd be a shame to see them take a walk down propaganda lane like a few similar channels have done.

My school has seriously failed at the thing about the language. There is a boy in my grade who cannot speak english very well, and instead of using something like google translate, my teachers just constantly get angry at him. He does break obvious rules that he can even understand often, which pisses me off, but the fact that my school is so mean to him also pisses me off

As an example of how "that being said" certain ethnic groups have been targets of unfair treatment, the video then cites laws designed to exclude immigrants from particular ethnic groups. I think it should make it clear that such laws didn't violate the 14th Amendment, if that Amendment protected only American citizens, and not foreigners, from discrimination.

For instance, if the US goes to war with the UK, and I'm in the USA, I can be deported, or interned.

The point is that the act of immigration itself should not be grounds for demonization. Illegal immigrants are frequently fleeing persecution or shitty living conditions back home. And while, yes, illegal immigration is bad, shipping them back home is frequently not a viable option.
His point is to separate the act being illegal from the person being illegal. So here you could talk about illegal immigration because that's an action but not about the actual immigrant being illegal (term illegal immigrant). So the idea is if someone broke the law then their action was illegal not they themselves.

Private businesses can still discriminate in other ways. How should I deal with that? One little checkmark that indicates I'm brown and I've got a higher interest rate at the bank. Just because the government is trying not to look racist doesn't mean that private companies follow suit. I didn't actually know that statistic about disability. It's actually incredibly depressing because I'm disabled and looking for work after graduating. I know that my girlfriend, who is also disabled, has definitely seen this kind of discrimination already but I thought it was a lot smaller scale than that statistic implies.
Someone who is blind is disabled, period. Lets not go and change definitions because a few blind people got offended. This "everyone gets a medal" attitude is ridiculous. I think we should fix the immigration system and allow more people over; and have them documented, while sending those who are coming over against border laws should be sent back or jailed (which could be a bad idea since jails are over crowded as is.) just so we have more documention and higher knowledge of the people whom come over, then charge businesses whom hire undocumentedate people.
The LGBT does deserve rights because they are citizens. But just because they have rights doesn't mean they are allowed to ruin the lives of others. My school has seriously failed at the thing about the language. There is a boy in my grade who cannot speak english very well, and instead of using something like google translate, my teachers just constantly get angry at him. He does break obvious rules that he can even understand often, which pisses me off, but the fact that my school is so mean to him also pisses me off

they reply to light hearted, non confrontational comments. They avoid comments that challenge their viewpoint. For example the idea that the 14th amendment was simply drafted to allow for the children of slaves to be considered US citizens and it had nothing to do with a long for anchor babies.
As other have noticed I am somewhat surprised that there was no mentioning of the African Americans population. I am aware that the history of violence committed against them extends far beyond discrimination, but it still seems worth mentioning Jim Crow or something along those lines.
I think you should have done a video on the meaning of 'discrimination' before starting this series, judging by the comments. Some people seem to think that it's a myth, or worse.

At 1:00 Crash Course describes how the 14th Amendment protects citizens from discrimination. As an example of how "that being said" certain ethnic groups have been targets of unfair treatment, the video then cites laws designed to exclude immigrants from particular ethnic groups. I think it should make it clear that such laws didn't violate the 14th Amendment, if that Amendment protected only American citizens, and not foreigners, from discrimination.
The constitution, and it's amendments, are seen as the most basic rights, and apply to anyone within the U.S.
A. E. Cooper But they don't, do they? If I visit America, I can be deported, I can't vote, etc., which an American citizen cannot. Now, in America, I have the right to due process, and to have no discrimination in relation to my race, sexuality, and gender - but I can be 'discriminated against' as a non-citizen, and I can be 'discriminated against' as a citizen of a specific country. For instance, if the US goes to war with the UK, and I'm in the USA, I can be deported, or interned.
I think it was brought up as a point of debate as to whether they should be protected because this is heavily debated and is worth discussing.

It's semantics, but basically the person themselves isn't illegal - their actions were.

The same logic applies to anything a person might do illegally, so what doesn't "make sense" is to apply the word to the person rather than the action. Forcing everyone to change the short phrase "illegal [actor]" to the tortuous "[actor] who [acted] illegally" is just an attempt to disguise the illegality of the action through changing language, and makes as much sense as requiring that a sentence never end with a preposition.
SAYING it "doesn't make sense" is trying to hide that illegality through ridicule of people using the established convenience of the phrase.

^ We're not saying the person is illegal. The term is not "illegal person". It's "illegal immigrant" - because the word immigrant explains what the person *DID* - and we're saying that the way they did it was *ILLEGAL* .

Immigrating illegally does not make you an illegal immigrant. It makes you an immigrant who arrived in the country illegally.
The point is that the act of immigration itself should not be grounds for demonization. Illegal immigrants are frequently fleeing persecution or shitty living conditions back home. And while, yes, illegal immigration is bad, shipping them back home is frequently not a viable option.
His point is to separate the act being illegal from the person being illegal. So here you could talk about illegal immigration because that's an action but not about the actual immigrant being illegal (term illegal immigrant). So the idea is if someone broke the law then their action was illegal not they themselves.

As a disabled person I think society has a long way to come until we are properly included into society I’m from a town in the uk and not a lot of buildings are accessible this is against the equality act but no one seems to care I can’t access a specific night club and banks and other buildings it’s time to make a change people and be more Inclusive of minority groups

It's absolutely crazy that illegal immigrants should get any rights other than emergency medical treatment here. No other country in the world is like this. Also, "Equal protection" nor the Bill of Rights applies to non American citizens, no matter how you try to spin it, so Craig has lost some respect from me here. Native Americans on the other hand deserve all the rights U.S. citizens get for obvious reasons. If we are to be a truly respected and sovereign Nation of Laws, we must practice them effectively and abide by them, so long as all people are treated equally within the confines of our rule of law.

Private businesses can still discriminate in other ways. How should I deal with that? One little checkmark that indicates I'm brown and I've got a higher interest rate at the bank. I didn't actually know that statistic about disability. It's actually incredibly depressing because I'm disabled and looking for work after graduating. I know that my girlfriend, who is also disabled, has definitely seen this kind of discrimination already but I thought it was a lot smaller scale than that statistic implies.

This year the Arkansas legislature passed a law prohibiting anti-discrimination ordinances. This month the biggest city in my region passed an anti-discrimination ordinance. So the ordinance should stand and the legislature shouldn't have done did that?

How did he manage to skip slavery, the civil rights movement and racial tension between White and Black Americans? I watched this because I thought it would be an extensive if not brief look at ALL discrimination in America. So, I noticed that the Tennessee State Capital building and the Davidson County Court house are in the video when Craig talks about states trying to stop local municipalities from making laws protecting the LGBT community. As a concerned resident of Nashville Tennessee, could someone fill me in on what happened?
I think we should fix the immigration system and allow more people over; and have them documented, while sending those who are coming over against border laws should be sent back or jailed (which could be a bad idea since jails are over crowded as is.) just so we have more documention and higher knowledge of the people whom come over, then charge businesses whom hire undocumentedate people.
The LGBT does deserve rights because they are citizens. But just because they have rights doesn't mean they are allowed to ruin the lives of others. Those bakers and churches that don't want to be a part of a same sex wedding aren't discriminating, they just don't want to be involved because it goes against their beliefs. For Christians, getting involved in a gay wedding is like giving the drug more crack to snort. We don't want any part of your wedding. Go somewhere else, there are plenty of places to get a cake or get married in.

Notwithstanding the prefatory clause bring a main reason rather than the only reason for the right to keep and bear arms; the people who say that "well regulated" somehow implies gun control to the point that the right is obsolete fail to;
a. understand both the colloquial and archaic definitions of the term "regulated", &
b. recognize that this word implies that it must be regulated with an eye on the security of a free state in a military sense. Bolt action rimfire doesn't do much to "well-regulate" a militia for the security of a free state.
it actually implies the opposite: that, if all adults over the age of 18 are members of the militia, then they should be regulated with an eye on national and domestic security. The prefatory clause suggests that the NFA and ordinances which restrict the right of the people to bear military grade arms are unconstitutional, as those arms are of the precise type that nations deem essential to the security of a free state.

Supreme Court essential created legislation from the bench in the gay marriage ruling, I believe that it should have been up to the states, as marriage laws have alway been decided by the states. It is called federalism, some laws are made by the federal lv and states keep some of sovereignty as established by the 9th and 10th amendment.
I happen to fully agree with Craig when he celebrates the end of discrimination. However this is supposed to be educational but instead i isn't neutral in any way. So even though I'm very liberal my self I think that this is liberal propaganda rather than education.
