    With food or 3 to 4 hours apart? Many companies sell a combination D3 and K2 and yet other Doc’s say separate them so they do not complete for absorption. There is so much confusing information out there today it’s hard for people to sort through everything. I often buy a supplement only to find out it is not effective if I take it with something else. Very frustrating not to mention some supplements are better quality than others. It’s a buyer beware market and even if you try very hard to get it right, you will often fail. Case in point: I just learned about kale and spinach, eating them raw in your smoothies they both produce something called Oxalates which suppress the absorption of calcium so if your are trying to protect your bones, this is not good. Cooking them (lightly steam them) however takes the Oxalates out and then they don’t block absorption. Nutrition is complicated and medical doctors get about 8 hours of it in medical school, why? Because it doesn’t make money if it’s natural. No profit, no interest.

      Unfortunately you are correct, i know more about foods, diet, supplements and the absorption of vitamins and minerals than my Gp, it pays to do your own research, i don't blame the Doctors but as you say, teaching them about these things deprive the pharmaceutical companies of cash for their sometimes unnecessary medicines...

      They're fat soluble. Take them together or separate, but make sure there's a little bit of fat available in the capsules or meal. In regards to oxalates, they're terrible. You can add calcium to possibly minimize their toxicity, as cooking does not* eliminate most of them, but it's best to minimize your consumption of foods with them in your diet. Also, supplement with vitamin b7 (biotin). It (likely) enables your cells / genes to properly detoxify oxalates (in manageable amounts) if you have certain genetic mutations that slow or disable that function.

    Is it true that Vitamin D3 should not be taken at the same time as Vitamin K2 to maximise the benefits - ie take at about 4 hours apart?

    • @LukeAMcDowell
      @LukeAMcDowell 3 года назад

      A study showed that vitamins K and D, which are both fat soluble, will compete for absorption. Ideally, they should be taken at least 3 hours apart for maximum absorption in the intestines.

      @@Person-mh6xq marketing maybe. People that benefit from one will almost always benefit from the other. I read the study that I shared above and I choose to take vitamin D3 with my first meal each day at 2pm, and I take vitamin K2 MK7 at my least meal at 7pm.
      I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 35. I take vitamin D, Vitamin K, and creatine. I either paddle surf or lift weights each day. As of my last bone density scan a few months ago, I no longer have osteoporosis and now am into the osteopenia range. Hopefully by the time I am 50 I will be into positive numbers.
