Solid research out of university of Alberta linking D3 with positive reduction in dementia just came out. Being an old fart with chemo brain, anything that helps reduce dementia is a good thing. 😊
Agreed. Love the Golden Bears!
The study was done at the University of Calgary, which is located in Alberta. The University of Alberta is based in Edmonton, Alberta's capital city.
B12 helps too
This combination of D3 and K2 has been know for years. Glad to see the medical doctors are listening to other health care doctors.
Vitamin D3 is freely available from sunshine / sunbath, why should combine D3 with K2 ??
You guys bring faces and voices to laymen worldwide. Thank you.
YES, we shall take vitamin K2 and D together.
Another very interesting perspective & valuable information!
I love you guys, but no matter what you say, and being in charge of my own health, I will NOT eat a cup of kale, period period period. That reminds me-I need to mow my lawn.
Too funny!
Really funny
Kales gross 🤢
I understand your frustration. I don't eat fresh kale, I found recepies for cooked and baked and fried kale on you tube. If you like soups and casseroles you can drown kale in other vegetables and meat and spices. But its healthy
Baby kale is great, just like any other lettuce type leaf. I agree with you, grown-up kale is just not going into my mouth unaccompanied. I do put it into my smoothie which includes 1 cup of frozen wild blueberries and 1/2 cup of frozen cranberries. Those cranberries overpower the taste of the gross stuff. Of course, you have to like the taste of cranberries!
Thank you so much. I had been looking for this kind of information and to understand it. you two always make it very clear.
Thank you for this video! You guys are awesome
Thanks you Doctors! Love the way you present the information for us.
Popular topic of discussion. Thank you for sharing the different perspectives
Thank you for the informative vid.
K2 not reducing the incidence of fracture is very easy to understand: magnesium makes bone hard not calcium. Of course you need calcium, and vitamin D and K2 will drive calcium into your bone and increase bone density but without magnesium, bone will not necessarily get harder. Unfortunately, a lot of people and unfortunately a lot of older people don't get enough magnesium from food and would need a supplement. It's really sad to see that when doctors are prescribing calcium they will prescribe a supplement with only calcium in it. It would be much better if they prescribed a supplement with both calcium and magnesium. A little boron might also help.
Seems a lot of the medical community don’t do any valid research or read studies that show this
Along with collagen is helpful 😊
I agree. I did lots of reading and I came to the same conclusion.
Thank you Doctors.
Excellent video! I always appreciate the nuanced yet simple talking points and careful attention to the research. Can't wait to see what the eventual RCTs show.
Thanks for this. As a post-menopausal woman if taking K2 in addition to my D3 doesn't do any harm, finding out it may be doing some good is enough for me to carry on doing what I'm doing.
Think of taking magnesium as well.
Good one, Docs!
As a Subscriber, we look forward to your honest insights and perspective. Love the discussion between you. You mention quickly researching topical scientific research papers. How can I do this? Can you explain in a video? Blessings.
For visual learners, it would be nice to have the important take away in text or ppt slides.

Thank you again Docs!
Very welcome!
This was very informative! Good point Dr. Z inquiring why no RCT by the supplement companies! I take MK7 because of family history of atherosclerosis, but I also eat a varied, mostly plant based diet. Maybe I will just save my money and wait for the evidence. Thanks for the thought provoking content!
Always fun to learn about our health….Thanks 😊
Really useful information thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful job!
Thank you Docs!

Thank you for your videos to help us understand. Two years ago I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I watched and read so much on the internet about it, like you said, the majority had something to sell. I started V K2 and 4000 VD, my calcium intake was sporadic because of reading threat to heart, etc. and monthly Actonel, after 18 months another bone scan showed my osteoporosis was now osteopenia. I do strength training twice a week and try to keep moving. I’m going to be 70. I thought it was the Vitamin D and K that helped me. Sounds like everything is a gamble.
One of the best explanations of K1 and K2 that's I've seen. Thanks.
In 2021 I had a chest CT that that showed aortic arthrosclerosis. Later that year I was diagnosed with osteopenia and started taking K2 and D3. Fast-forward a year and a half, I had a CT angiogram and the aortic arthrosclerosis was gone. no other changes in my diet no other changes in my activity just added D3 and K2. So no one can convince me that it doesn’t work!
My HX 64 year old female post menopausal at 52. Familial Hypercholestremia with TC 302 LDL 203 HDL 100ish since mid 20s. BTW CAC score was zero, no plaque and no calcification.
Yes, it does work. The combination has reversed my osteopenia. People could also argue that it doesn't work, but it worked for me. My doctor suggested it and I listened.

I didn't do this at first but after hearing about this on RUclips I have switched to a single K2 + D pill. That was probably 2 years ago.
I just started giving my mom D3 and K2 about a week ago and if the study out of Alberta, Canada is true maybe that will help with her dementia as well. I think there is a cure for dementia out there. It’s just that some of these big pharmaceutical companies are holding back so they can get more money grants and donations, they get a bigger salary
Yes! The problem combination?
Even when hypervitaminosis D occurs, treatment is simple and permanent damage is rare.68,69 A large ecological study of high vitamin D supplementation took place by accident when in 1990-1992 a dairy in the Boston area accidentally fortified milk with 230,000IU/quart instead of 400IU/quart: 575 times the intended amount. 70 The overage remained undiscovered for two years, as despite taking in this high dose day after day most customers did not become ill; but eventually Boston area emergency departments linked the resultant approximately 19 cases of vitamin D toxicity to the dairy.70,71 The only sufferer who did not recover died of pneumonia due to immune compromise from the prednisone given her as treatment, rather than from effects of hypercalcemia.70,72 The jury found that the dairy’s dramatic error did not cause the decedent’s death.
Really enjoy your wisdom
Thanks
Thank you for this video. I have been taking K2 since I had a cardiac calcium score of 1900 and 3 stents. Nobody told me to do this but I have read that it helps to keep the calcium out of the blood and into the bones. Of course I have no idea if it helps but it makes me feel better.
Fair enough. Helps the bones. Jury out for now on the vessels but many trials ongoing
Hi Docs! Yes and have been for 3 years! Speaking of ‘K’ 710K, congrats!🎉
Thanks doctors, very informative.
Great video and I’m very interested to see your next one. There’s such conflicting views on D3 RDA itself; some as low as 800IU, others as high as 10,000 IU - then there’s the grey area of how vital K2 is with the aforementioned high dose. I find it all quite confusing.
We shall see
Docs, can you do a video on natural supplements and their benefits in A1c reduction? Thanks
Thank you
I think adding a good kind of magnesium supplement is essential.
Thx Docs!.. I hail my Kale... Even my dogs love to follow me into the garden to munch a couple stalks.
Totally lost me in the middle.
So no idea if I should be taking anything now😢
Dr vegan multi vitamins have it in. It's supposed to be 2 a day but I decided to take one a day. That way I'm getting a top up on many nutrients but not enough to negatively affect me.
Very good explanation thank you my vitamin D has been low for years, had a CT scan 2 years ago showed a buildup in the artoic artery will try the K2
Take berberine and lime sapwood to avoid and dimish plaques.
I'm currently on 7000 IU vitamin D + 120mcg K2 daily. I feel great, and haven't been ill in 5 years (except for a 2-day stint with covid).
Worth checking with your doctor how much D3 you should take if you take it daily. There is a recommended upper limit especially if taken daily. The limit might be based on body weight or other factors, so just check with a professional to be on the safe side 🙂
We generate between 25,000-50,000 IU in the sun, so 7,000 IU is not unreasonable, especially if you are older. A 70yo generates about 25% of the amount that the average 18yo generates naturally. There's no upper limit on K2. No harm in investigating increasing that. I take the Athletic Greens D3/K2 drops that have 1,000 IU of D3 per drop and 140mcg of K2. Similar to you, I have 7 drops each day.
@@pohaa Thanks for sharing, and I agree 100%. Looks like we're following the same research.
@@austin2842 I got "Mega K2" from Life Extension (45,000mcg of MK4 per capsule!) and "Nattokanise" from Swanson which is mostly MK7. Good luck with it all 👍

You see your videos are very clear to me but this one was confusing no real amount of what we should take of them together? But overall I love you guys
What about taling a baby aspirin is it contraindacted?
Great video as always. You guys remind me of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet show, only a lot younger!
Can I take a tablet with calcium -vit D-vit K, all in one? The endocrinologist suggested it for my osteopenia.
Ive been taking vit D + K2 since covid. Recently I upped my dose a little and it seemed to take away some vertigo I was having. (This was the advice of my sister's doctor for her) About 10 drops a day.
Would K2 regulate CPPD Calcium phosphate deposits in my joints?
Great video; love your sense of humour! I was hoping you might confirm something that Dr. Ken Berry said, which was that you should not take Vitamin D and K2(MK7) supplements together because they compete for absorption. Is this true?
True. Taking d3 and k2 together lowers the potency of k2. Dr Keith Mccormick said so.
Interesting.
Does K2 affect Tamoxifen?
I was told by doc that I was low on Vitamin D, So I took one "one a day dose" and was up almost every hour to urinate, by chance decided to look up side effects and this was one of them for Vit. D. People should be warned.....I do like your presentations though. thanks.
We agree that taking vitamin D is not without risk
Never heard of urinary frequency as side effect of Vit D. If it is, it is rare.
I take it in the morning or with my first meal of the day!
You seem to like K2 with D. I would like to hear about the MK7. That’s what I bought bc it was so confusing at the store.
I'm suffering from kidney failure. So can I take vitamin d3 with k2
I wonder if my lipid panel is good then consuming saturated fats over the rda isn't problematic
Hello doctors. So... If a patient has osteoporosis, some calcifications in the stomach, using forteo, would they benefit from vitd3 and k2? A heart cath showed no plaque in the heart btw
I read an article that this combination would help with wight loss. I dont remember the reasons. I started it and after 2 weeks weeks straight, i ended up in a seriously rough asthma situation. My dr gave me prednisone to help me survive. I think it's related to my allergy to ragweed.
DOCTOR please tell us is the vit k good for liver ? Or no ?
I am recivening vit d3 oil with magnesium but not vit k2
I take vitamin D with K2 a cup a day everyday!
Literally just took my micro ingredients Vitamin 5,000UI D3 & 100mcg K2 supplement 10 min before seeing this 😂 (yes, i tested chronically low for D multiple times).

It also works against allergies.
What about vitamin D with soybean oil? Isn’t soy bad? I’m pre menopausal.

Oh I didn’t find the answer in your video. Maybe I missed it. Can we take vitamin dand K2 together? I really would like to know. Thank you doctors ❤❤
My take on it is that it is fine together but k2s benefit regarding blood vessels isnt 100% proven.
Think taking them together is fine but I would make sure not to do high doses.

Thank you for this video. I take D3 and K2, have abdominal aortic calcification, and osteoporosis...taking monthly Actonel but this latter drug concerns me in relationship to the calcification...can''t seem to get a straight forward answer regarding this...would love your thoughts ...Thank you..
Take berberine to avoid plaque (and cancer and diabetes).
Magnesium and boron (bore) to help with vit D and avoid calcium plaques.
Take lime (ancient linden) sapwood to avoid calcium plaques and relieve your kidneys. In 10-day cures.
How much you should take if your blood test is 25 ??
I was taking D3 for a while without any issues, i heard about K2 last year and started taking it along with my D3, very bad idea. The calcium went up in my blood and the K2 (supplement) was the only change i made.
I stopped the K2 and the calcium levels dropped. I started using sauerkraut instead. I have only heard one doctor mentioned the high levels of calcium in the blood taking K2.
K2 in supplement create heart palpitation.
Thanks Gentleman! What about vitamin D and depression?
The main reason I started taking vitamin D3 years ago was for depression, my opinion is it works for me!
Yes
Whoever reads this., I pray for you to cure all your diseases and to remove all your pains from your daily life. 🙏🙏🙏
But D3 is also has a massive impact on our immune system not just about skeletal bone benefits.. vit D3 is also a homone not a vitamin
Also helps reduce BPH and PSA.
They always come together in a bottle!
That's because Dr. Pepper lost his wife.
I’ve been on a daily calcium supplement (I’m lactose intolerant) with K2 for a few months now, and notice that the tartar on my teeth has disappeared. Hope its doing the same for my arteries. I take 60,000IU of D3 once a month after a meal with some oil in it, as both D3 and K are fat soluble vitamins. Safe dose. I have a PhD in Biochemistry with 5 publications on Vitamin D
Very cool.
Me also...😊
Why have you chosen to take the Vitamin D dose once a month, rather than 2,000IU daily?
Do you feel it makes no difference? Or, do you think it's better? Thank you.
@@seascape35 I find it convenient. It is stored in the liver and fatty tissues and is used as required. I monitor my Serum D3 levels regularly and am nowhere near toxicity. 2000IU/ day is good in my opinion.

My GP always said that if you eat a healthy diet, then you are wasting your money taking vitamins.
You GP would have been right had they just said the last part of that.
If you live around the equator and run around half dressed, you can get enough Vitamin D from sunlight exposure. But if you live in Europe or the US or Canada, you don’t get enough exposure to sunlight for adequate Vitamin D production. Vitamin D is one vitamin that the majority of medical community agrees should be supplemented.
@@maddexq9107 This.
ALSO, if you have any of a bunch of really poorly understood medical conditions (I have long Covid which the medical community is ONLY just beginning to have any kind of a clue about - and there may be multiple varieties just to make ti worse) there is evidence that some supplements can make a big difference in your quality of life.
I take a bunch of things related to mitochondrial function simply because they *seem* to help. And just recently there was a reasonably good study out of one of the Canadian Universities which identified mitochondrial impairment as a major marker of long Covid. So, I will keep taking them because I am likely to be dead before they find a cure.
@@maddexq9107 For white people that is objectively wrong it is why we evolved to be white. Other darker folks MIGHT have some issues in very specific places in Europe but anywhere in the US and anywhere that 90% of where Canadians live in Canada is fine at least outside of winter. Winter is where it gets tricky everywhere winter exists.
How much vit D3 should women over 60 take? 2000 or 5000 iu or more?
We would say the evidence points to 2000 unless a specific deficiency is identified
However, for those of us that don't eat a "healthy" diet(according to the governmental alphabet agencies), would k2/d3 supplements likely do some good, and at least no physical harm?
So I’ve been put on Warfarin, and you calling it “rat poison” is kinda concerning me. Can you elaborate on why you called it that?
That is true. It is rat poison to kill mice.
I have been on Warfarin too for about 20 years for atrial fibrillation. I think the doctors were making a joke at our expense. True, Warfarin may be the same as rat poison, but we must realize that in the case of rodent poisoning, very high dosages are used to make the animal bleed to death. Therapeutic dosages for humans are very controlled, and given only enough to slow down coagulation to keep us from getting unwanted clots. Warfarin has been around for many, many decades.
During COVID I started 10K units of vit D3. Lowered it to 6K and now I take 2K. Bought some K2, but am on blood thinner so no. Had 2 CT scans which showed severe calcification of my cornary arteries. Don't know what to do.
Hmmm. Dietary assessment for sure. Exercise. Possibly medication. Wish you the best
Are there any other factors involved like age, cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, etc.?
Do some more research, vitamin K1 thins the blood, but I'm not sure if K2 does! Just my 2 cents!
Take magnesium to balance out the calcium.
@@dawhike I take magnesium every day.
Can you discuss vitamin D3 and magnesium
Magnesium is needed to "activate" the vitamin d. So it's essential. Make sure you have enough mag in your diet and if not, take a supplement. You could honestly supplement mag anyways lol. Mag glycinate is my jam.
Vt K1 I understand is the one that makes your blood clot, not VtK2 !!
My doctor just took me off of d3 because I had too much calcium. Can I still take k2?
If you have strange symptoms, get tested for Parathyroid Disease. Need your PTH level checked
I was told that K7 was good for your heart and vascular system. Is this not the case Anymore?
I'm taking a daily Vitamin D + K2 supplement because I'm hypertensive and I'm hoping that this supplement will lower my BP a few points. I fully appreciate that K2 is not proven to lower BP, but if there's a chance that it helps to reduce arterial plaques then I feel it's worth the minimal expense
Hello. Berberine also helps reduce plaque.
It's also useful against cancer and diabetes type 2.
So, you should take Vitamin D3 with your calcium and if there is some vitamin K2 in your multivitamin, and you eat a lot of veggies, that should be okay, right? And now the million dollar question: Would having osteogenesis imperfecta influence this?
And also, since K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, do you get more of this vitamin if you climb that? 🤪
Tell us where to find the vit K2 in food
It generally comes from bacteria so fermented food such as kraut, kimchi, natto, and some cheese. I've read that aged Gouda is a great source. Egg yolk is also a decent source. As others have mentioned, our own gut bacteria can produce it if we nurture the right bacteria with the correct food intake.
@leeka40 Soooo...we need to have a balanced beneficial bacterial flora in the gut, to begin with (Kefir. Yakult, Bacillus Coagulans/Subtilis.

I have a level 9 vitamin D deficiency and my doctor prescribed me D3 5000iu daily. I asked if I should take any other supplements like K2 and was advised not to. Recently there was calcium oxalate crystals present in urine sample. I spoke with my doctor about this concern and was advised that these crystals are grainy and only become an issue if they clump together and it is fine for now. Would any supplement help with this or should I just stick to high dose of D3 alone ? Very confused
I would cut down on foods high in oxalates! All of the research I've done says if you take vitamin D3, you should be taking K2! Vitamin D3 helps you absorb more calcium and K2 helps the calcium go to your bones! Do your research, I don't blindly listen to doctors! My trust in doctors is very low!
Top cardiologist recommends k2 with d3 and especially if you are taking calcium
Yeah so we did a video about calcium supplements and their associated dangers. Most don’t need them. Yes many people recommend them. We are simply providing the evidence that at this point does not support taking them for cardiac reasons.
Doctor Peter McCullough? I believe he's one of the most published and cited cardiologists in the US. I recall that he advocates D3 and K2, but surely not with calcium.
Unless you are diagnosed with low calcium I wouldn't take calcium, most people get enough calcium in their diet! The K2 helps the calcium in the blood to go to your bones and teeth, instead of building up in the arteries! This is just my opinion, so do your research!
Every other day I eat 4 ounces of kale and 4 ounces of carrots. Less work because I'm kinda lazy! the kale gets me 400% of the RDA for vitamin K. I measure my nutrients on cronometer. It's free and has worked well for me. Vitamins C comes with K in kale.
In the distant past I've gone long stretches with inadequate vitamins. I'm much more careful now.
I thought the K vitamin in kale was K1, if so it's not the same as K2! Just a thought!
@@wiz4020you are correct, only K1.
Ok
I was reading somewhere that in reality is not K2 that will strengthen bones but K4. I guess the K2 industry has paid so much money in marketing K2 that K4 has been left out of the spot light. Could you guys make a video to explain if it is true the K4 is better than K2? Thanks!!
It’s complicated for sure. Do you mean MK4 or K4?
@@TalkingWithDocs yess!
@@TalkingWithDocs Sorry in my comment I meant MK4 versus MK7. But MK4 is actually what the Japanese government recommends in its guidelines to treat osteoporosis with a product called Glakay. From what I am understanding, the Natto industry has been very good at commercializing MK7, which has probably some benefits as well, but MK4 seems to be the one good for bones and not discussed much in the western world, probably due to the MK7 industry marketing strategies.
Seems that AMA, WHO, FDA, CDC and other financially driven and funded organizations are not setup (along with for-profit companies) to do the necessary fundamental research for low-cost, non-patent driven, home-remedy type solutions for health benefits. Are there any groups funding these types of studies that are not ultimately driven by greed (to make money)? Seems unlikely that greed will drive good public policy in all cases. Are there any crowd funded research group without money being the primary driving force behind their effort? Just curious. I am wondering, but I have not done my own investigating, yet. Do you disagree??
You're right, everyone is biased when it comes to money!
