I love how you incorporated melody into the chords and mixed fingerpicking for the intro/outro... and oh let’s not forget how much the “squishy part” adds to the music, lol 😂. Seriously, brilliant tutorial. Thx for all your hard work, much appreciated!
Thank you. That means a lot to me coming from you. I use that term a lot with my face to face students, and it makes them smile. I also joke that I've ruined them for any other teacher that they might have after me.
I love this song .. I just got my own ukulele.. I'm new to play but I love the way you explain and give other simple alternatives or variations of how to play it .. I have yet master this song but I'm working hard .. thanks for uploading it
Congratulations on your new instrument, and I’m so happy that this helped. I’m here if you have any questions 😀. Also, thank you for being so kind. I really appreciate it.
You make me love my uke even more. Following you for some time now. My playing is getting better every day. Your voice is sensational. I am completely hypnotised by it. Greetings from The Netherlands. ( it is not John, but me, his wife). 😊
Hi Ms. Katie! I really appreciate how you break down the strumming and finger picking patterns in all your tutorial. You're one awesome music teacher. I can easily follow your video tutorials. Am in my 40s and just learning to play the ukelele i recently got for myself. I do have a request though, would you also upload a tutorial video on how to play on ukelele the Queen's Love of My Life (with fingerstyle intro). That would really be great. Thanks a lot Ms. Katie. All the best.
Sherri Brody in no way am I trying to pull subs away from Katie, but have you found 'Ten Thumbs Pro'. Another valuable resource for the ukulele afficiando. Katie will always be my favorite though.
it's become a random habit to learn whatever tutorial you upload, you're a really good teacher and your tutorials are always easy to learn and fun. happy belated (Very belated) birthday uwu
Such a beautiful singing voice , Katie , love the picking style then throw in some melody . Wow!!, thank you so much for the lesson and NOW I will be doing a much better job of this . A most fave song of mine , from back in the day . Never mind that I can never do the voice , I will just find someone who can .
Thank you! I'm so happy that you found it clear. I was scared that it was too long or that I included too many elements, so thank you for finding this valuable. I appreciate your feedback.
So nice, Katie!!!!...This one I will learn the way your doing....love your strumming and chucking....What a classic song....This really sounds good on a Uke....But, I think that you need a 70's headband (with a peace sign) when your playing this song and doing so, in the Park, for young lovers.....Wow, nostalgia just hit me... Here I go with our Duet......:).......great job!
I absolutely love this tutorial. Now two of my favorite covers of this song, yours and Disturbed. Thank you so much. 🤙🎸sorry there needs to be uke emoji.
That's so sweet! I take that as a huge compliment ;). Thank you for your kind words. I was worried that it was going to be too long and people wouldn't stick around to watch, so I'm grateful that you found this valuable, that it made sense, and most of all that you liked it. How have you been?
One Music School Hi doing well thank you. Ive been rehabbing after a rotator cuff and bicep tendon tear surgery. But its coming along slowly but I can play now so that makes me happy. Your tutorial was perfect you are such a great teacher and player. I have enjoyed watching every tutorial. I love the outtakes and the little made up things you add thats good stuff and funny. It has me grinning at my screen.
One Music School Thank you, I work in Afghanistan, I injured it in March at work lifting weights on my off time. So when I returned home I had surgery in April. Just healing up now but its been a long process.
I'm glad I found this tutorial! I've been trying to learn this song out of E minor on my tenor ukulele. It plays ok out of E minor, but this version out of D minor is probably even easier to play, especially now that I have a better handle on the B chord. Next, I have to learn it on the new baritone ukulele. :-)
☝🎶🏡 Yes! Such a lovely version of this song you're playing Katie. I'm not with my uku but had to watch before getting home. Glad I did. You packed a lot into this lesson. Appreciate your time and effort. The finger picking sounds so soothing. Would that loop pedal you reviewed from Fretish work for recording the strumming and the finger picking together? Thanks for your tutoring Katie. Happy day always 🙌🙏😍
Thank you so much for watching :). I know that there's a lot of information packed into this lessons, so I really appreciate that you watched it. I was worried that it was going to be too long. I don't know if the pedal would work for that long a span, but it could be worth a try.
I hope you can help me with my query. I'm new to playing Ukulele, I've not even been playing for a 12 month yet. I've been learning the finger picking version of this tutorial "Sound of Silence." I admit I'm enjoying it. What i've noticed though is that the finger picking part of this tutorial only covers the first part of the song, (unless I'm missing something.) Can someone please offer me some guidance on what i to do? Do just repeat what I'm learning or what? Please help....
A very detailed fingerstyle tutorial and I like it!! How do you get that red circle on the screen!? Very helpful! Ps. I love your ukulele and I always love that flower in your hair! A great touch! Super happy I turned on my notifications on your channel! Keep it up!
love this video this is one of my all times favorite songs i dont know how i miss this video before but i dont think im quite there ill put a pin on this video but ill be back
Thank you so much for watching, and I'm so happy that you liked it. All of of the links to the charts are in the description box, so I hope that helps. Have a great day.
Why are your scores upside down? I'm confused since you have the A string on top on the music, but you are playing with the A on the bottom? I'm pretty new to ukulele, but you have been helping me tremendously! Thanks!
Been waiting for this. How about "House of the rising sun" for the next classic song? It's already in my bag but it's a great ukulele tune. Thank you and keep up the great work
Great song Katie, sweet sound. One of classics. I know the ukulele is your main videos and there awesome but I was wondering if your going to have more guitar videos? I know your a busy ukulele mommy and they both take up a lot of time and we appreciate everything you bring to us., Are there any tutorials coming up with guitars? keep up the great videos. :-)
YES! I have Sound of Silence and Oceans for guitar already filmed...I just need to edit them. Thank you for requesting more guitar. I really appreciate you watching. It really means a lot to me.

You are the most gorgeous ukulele teacher in the World!
