Hello Bernadette. I'm a 72 year old geezer who acquired my only ukulele on February 8th. I've been working diligently since then and your tutorials are a massive help. But when I came across this "Hallelujah" video about two weeks ago I added it to my daily regimen. I have watched Celtic Woman perform it for a long time. I want to become proficient at it and am pretty good except for the F to G transition. I haven't seen a video specifically on the move but I have slowed that part of the song down, as you recommend in several of your videos, and will get it. Any help you can provide is appreciated. I did subscribe and enjoy your presentations. And Kit Kat, of course. Thank you.
Children, at 79, my voice is a bit cracky! But we are enjoying it, aren't we? What I like to do is change the key. Instead of the key of C, why not D or E flat? Or if a song is in the key of G, learn it and then do another key. In no time, you will be way ahead of everyone! Remember to play the 7th Aug 5th, Dim5th, and even the Ninth. Listen to the sound of Eb7-5 (D#7+5). Put into muscle memory 120 chords, and you can jam with any band! Another fun thing to learn is to play each chord in another position!
Okay, simply the best Ukelele teacher and video ever. Let's go over why. The video is smartly done. There's no annoying background it's sparse which lets you concentrate on the teacher. One annoying thing about most tutorials is that they don't work out what they want to say so you're flooded with a lot of " uhh" and "uhhh" and " umm" and worst of all repeating what they just said five different ways. Bernadette explains everything like a knowledgeable teacher without blithering her way through it. Her teaching method is fantastic. She doesn't just show you what chords to play but HOW to play them! She shows you what finger to use on each chord explaining WHY(which is invaluable to any person wanting to properly play an instrument) you should use that finger. Her teaching style is great in that she breaks down every sequence of the song, shows the chords, plays through it and then you can play along with her as well. She breaks down each part and goes over it. No part of the video is wasted by stupid meandering where you say to yourself, " GET ON WITH IT!!!" The next part is the blocking of the video. To the right she shows finger tablature of each chord and continues it throughout the video. Forgot how to finger that chord? No problem it's right there!! What chord to play at what point? No problem it's on the bottom of the screen! These are two important tools to help you learn to play better and she has them on the screen! Other videos will have somebody explain the chord and put their fingers on the neck as that's all you need to see. They will also go through what chords to use once and that's it. Can't remember what chords to use or how to play them? Better get a pen and paper and write it down cause you won't see it again in the video. Sadly the style of the video that she does shouldn't be groundbreaking but she knows it and incorporates it all in a way that makes learning much easier than about any tutorial out there. It's obvious that she DOES teach btw. The level of expertise in teaching is there to see. I also like the bit of whimsy in the video with the blue crepe on the head of the Duke. She doesn't explain it nor does she need to( I have a plastic pink pig wedged in between the strings at the head of my bass(I'm a Pink Floyd fan). She just leaves that there as a person that has fun teaching music. Sorry I wrote a book for a comment but it is so very rare to find good, well thought out tutorials on RUclips on ANY subject and such quality should be noted...and praised. I haven't watched any of her other tutorials yet but I have high hopes( please dont disappoint me Bernadette!!) For anybody out there wanting to make a tutorial about ANYYHING AT ALL this makes for an excellent tutorial on how to make an excellent tutorial. Okay my fingers are hurting from typing so much so I gotta go...peace.
I followed your tutorial and can’t believe I can play this after 8 days from scratch! Thank you so much. I am still on 30 day uku challenge as a total beginner.
I am determined to play that song, Hallelujah ( The Gospel version, LOL ) At Church Christmas. I should be able to go back to Church by then. I will be a lot stronger, & my immune system will be back to where it should be by then. My Son got a treadmill for me, & my Husband got an exercise bike for me. OH BOY! This is going to be fun. I won't be able to move. My muscles will be sore. So I will probably be in bed 2 or 3 days. The perfect time to work at it all day. I'm excited. I have never had someone teach like you do. I guess I must be on your kids level. I Appreciate that. Thank you.

I picked up my daughter's ukulele tonight and just decided I wanted to learn to play! You are such an incredible instructor! I tried playing the guitar when I was 10 years old and just couldn't get it. I have thought about it all these years..I am 53..and wished I would have learned. I think the ukulele is better for me! Thank you so much! My first night playing ever and you sure made me feel like I can actually do this!
It has been several years since I was in a classroom but you may very well be my favorite teacher, patient and concerned for her students. Your video design is great with the chords on the right and lyrics or glossary below. It may take several attempts but I think the finger style is worth a try.

I'm just about to hit my one year mark on playing ukulele. Thank you so much for your tutorials. They've helped me stay motivated to learn more music theory!
Im been honest when i say you got me intrest in the ukelele to the point that I bought one .You have such a comprehensive way to teach. I sincerely love your videos.
If I hadn’t found your channel I may never have wanted to play the ukulele. Working my way through the 30 day challenge at the moment but can’t help watching your other lessons. You are a wonderful teacher 😊
Sweetheart...Thank you. I'm a bit disabled and you've enabled me to be both creative and unfortunately still mostly tone deaf. but still having fun. Keep doing what you do.
THANK YOU COACH!!! (Just flew in from Texas) - Before i left i wanted to show my sister how to play this BEAUTIFUL SONG finger style. I showed her the basic - but referred her to your channel. Struggled with playing this on my guitar. YOU simplified it - and i FINALLY got to play & sing this on my Uke! THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!!! EXCELLENT TUTORIAL❤️❤️❤️. (Wow, just noticed this Hallelujah has over 300,000 views)🎉🎉🎉

I love how differentiated your lessons are! You give choices for people depending on their level - for my experience, I found the chords easy but I'm really new to finger picking. I learned something new about assigning one finger per string! I had to switch to my baritone about halfway through because the soprano is just soooo small for my arm to comfortably position itself to fingerpick. Someday my tenor will come...💙💙💙
I LOVE that you mention this! Different uke sizes do sit differently on the arm and make a difference! I also reach for my bigger ukes for things like this. I will talk about this in a future video. I hadn't thought about it 🤔
You are so right about finger positioning, it really does help with changing chords!! You teach us what to think about while we are playing, as well as how to play better. 💖
👋 Thank U sooooo much! I was beginning 2 believe l would never B able 2 learn. Following your lessons l am actually able to play music. WOW This great. I am terrible but l now know l will get better Thank you. Thank U
Thank you, thank you! I am 72 years young, got my first ukulele 2 days ago and am slowly playing it. What kind of ukulele are you playing, it’s so clear sounding.
Hi!! I love this tutorial and just wanted to say that a strum pattern I love to use for this song is DDUU with an emphasis on the middle two so it sounds more like D DU U when you play it. Such a great tutorial 💕💕
Beautiful tutorials Bernadette ❤️ I am giving my niece a ukulele for her 7th year birthday, showing her some songs, as we are in a band together ´Poison in a Bottle´ she picked the name, I love it :) Your tutorial will help her and me to find our ukulele wings. Much love and thanks to you.
Thanks Bernadette. I was having real trouble going from C to G. Your vids have sorted me out. I am a teacher too, and trying to show my students what it is like to be in the Learning Pit, so am learning to play the uke - something I have stayed away from for years.
Happy Trails, Miss B! This is my MOSTEST favorite piece & one i'll be doing on video for Ukelandia... Newbies, this gal is the VERY BEST online teacher you will find. Her quality is uncomparable; personality compassionate; and very VERY patient. Check out her channel for more indept classes & tutorials. I've been studying under Miss Bernadette for 4 months & I am now an intermediate beginner with a passion for ukulele and our joyful musical community....
I had to watch a few hallelujah tutorials before I came across this one and this by far was the easiest to follow along to and understand especially since I just got my first ukulele yesterday!!
Hi Mari!!! Welcome to this uku community 🤗🤗 I’m so glad you found us! Since you just got your ukulele, I recommend you take the 30 Day Uke Challenge. It will help you learn all the basics in order and by the end you’ll be playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial ❤️can you please do one as full finger style for the whole song? I love the way you did the intro in the very beginning of the video 💕you’re such a great teacher!
i met dear Leonard back late 70s, just bought my tootsie daughter a concert uke and by the lord above guess what her 1st attempt will be ? XXXXXXXXXXXX John.
Very good tutorial!i love how you tell us how to finger the chords and why we need to do it correctly. I’m very new so I want to get good habit patterns. Thank you!
Hi Michelle! Welcome to this ukulele community!! I think you’d be a perfect student for the 30 day ukulele challenge. It’s a series of videos that will help you learn ukulele from scratch. By day 30, you’ll be playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow 🌈 Here’s the link to the playlist! ruclips.net/p/PLJFa3EaocfZncpdhCRBCF302yIHnaRxOq
So if I decide to fingerpick it, when it comes to the part where it says "The Fourth, the Fifth" how would I go about that if it's one beat? cuz you're picking G C E A E C so would one beat just be G C E? Thank you!! Edit: at 3:16, why is the G included at the end of the sequence?
@@madisonkyle782 yeah! basically what you do is switch midway through the string plucking so you'd pluck the "G C E" for one chord then "A E C" for the next one :))
Hi, I love the tutorial, but I have a question. If you're finger picking the whole song and the finger picking pattern is two beats, how do you finger pick the F and G chords that are held for one beat?
I would just like to Thank You, for your online classes. I love the way you teach. I have only been playing the Ukulele for the past 3 weeks, and I love it so very much. I had a serious life changing riding accident in 2003, which has left me disabled, but not unable. Here in England 🏴 we are still having massive issues with the COVID-19 virus, with the lockdown and all the restrictions, I can not find a better time to learn to play an instrument, and I have chosen the Ukulele. I am having a few problems with the one beat notes and changing so quickly, like when you go from E7 to F then G, I might of got that order of notes wrong there, but you know what I mean. I practice and practice everyday, like everything with me, I am slow in getting there, but I will not give up until I get it right. I think you are an amazing teacher and I am going to stick with your lessons. I see this Hallelujah was posted a couple of years ago. Are you still posting new stuff here on RUclips? I do hope so, if not, do you have your own website? Once again, Thank You. Kindest of Regards Sarah E Bowker😊
Hi guys, found the answer in another video 😉 For the F/G "the 4th, the 5th"... You play GCE on the F, and AEC on the G. Hard to do at first but after practice, it's really nice 😁
I love this song so much! It makes me cry every time I hear it. Thank you for doing a tutorial on it ❤️ And your angelic voice is very fit for the song! I couldn't practice along rightaway now but I definitely sang along the whole time (although an octave lower 😅)
I have about 30 songs in my to do list ( songs need to record & cover) and this song is on my to do list 😃😃😃. I love Jeff Buckley’s version of this. Bon Jovi also did a cover of this. Whenever I do covers, I mostly wait for the right time or day that I really feel doing that song, so that I can perform it with emotions😊.Again, thank you for this tutorial Ms. B👌. I promise you will see me cover this 😁. By the way , I always play this in my Low g uke, it also sounds great 👍.✌🏻&❤️
you are so lovely. Favorite Ukulele teacher. You look like my daughter. My children love learning from you and you seem so wholesome and sweet, perfect for children
Thank you Ms.B. This is a beautiful song. So simple and sweet yet so deep. Can play this for hours.(now I know how) Sounds great on the ukulele. Wow, you are a dedicated teacher, flying home to produce a ten minute video between tea a cakes with Kevin. Ha ha. Will you be making a duet video with Kevin wearing your lovely Sari? Such a thoughtful gift! Happy trails.
Hey! 👋 So glad you liked the tutorial! 😊 You know I brought work with me on vacation!!! My RUclips family is important to me! ❤️ Kevin and I have been playing together and do plan on going on camera together somehow!
Okay.. Two things I want to say: 1. One te most captivating, fully explained and easiest tutorial. You could teach my dog playing Hallelujah by the way you do this. As Tina sang: You're simply the best! 2. You have the most gorgeous eyes I've seen for a long, long time. I know you're probably hearing this a lot but I would marry you if I could - not only because of those eyes but you're generally warm hearted person. XOXO!
so I was wondering about the same thing too, but then I figured out to just change after the fist three picks. So you pick on the F-chord: strings G, C & E, then change to G-chord and pick: strings A, E, & C. Not sure if that's the right ( or the easiest) way too do it, but it sounds pretty god too me:-)
I like to pick the first 3 strings on the F chord then the first 3 strings again on the G chord. There’s a lot going on if you do that but that’s what I like the most

Im been honest when i say you got me intrest in the ukelele to the point that I bought one .You have such a comprehensive way to teach. I sincerely love your videos.
I am 70 and hope I will pick up as you are a patient and an awesome teacher Berna.God bless.
If I hadn’t found your channel I may never have wanted to play the ukulele.
Working my way through the 30 day challenge at the moment but can’t help watching your other lessons.
You are a wonderful teacher 😊
I totally agree, I already know two chords after a week 😊
Ich mag deine Art und weise Griffe und Anschlagtechnik vorzuführen.
Du bist eine gute Lehrerin. God Bless you and your Work.

Sweetheart...Thank you. I'm a bit disabled and you've enabled me to be both creative and unfortunately still mostly tone deaf. but still having fun. Keep doing what you do.
THANK YOU COACH!!! (Just flew in from Texas) - Before i left i wanted to show my sister how to play this

I never knew you could slow down a video till she shared this tip. Even though she sounds stoned when I do it, it's been a help to me as a beginner.
Thank you, Kris! It's just best to build good habits from the beginning, you know? This includes how we think as we play!!! 🤓
You are a great teacher... how lucky are we?! 👋😀
I think it's me who is fortunate... I have students who come to me, ready to learn. That is a teacher's dream! 💕
👋 Thank U sooooo much! I was beginning 2 believe l would never B able 2 learn. Following your lessons l am actually able to play music. WOW
This great. I am terrible but l now know l will get better
Thank you. Thank U
Thank you, thank you! I am 72 years young, got my first ukulele 2 days ago and am slowly playing it. What kind of ukulele are you playing, it’s so clear sounding.
Looks like a Kala TG gloss
This is the best tutorial ever. This was so fun and easy. Thank you so much.
Você é uma ótima professora, pois eu consegui aprender sem nem ao menos falar inglês. Parabéns ❤❤❤❤
I have had this song in my book for months, and this version is soooo much easier and so much less intimidating! THANK YOU 💖💖💖 You r the best! 💖
I wish I watched this video before. The simplest and working tutorial. I can play Ukulele now. Thx a lot.
Hi!! I love this tutorial and just wanted to say that a strum pattern I love to use for this song is DDUU with an emphasis on the middle two so it sounds more like D DU U when you play it. Such a great tutorial 💕💕
One of the best ukelele tutorials I’ve watched. 👏🏻
Thanks!
Love your teaching . I find your videos easy to follow and I really appreciate that you explain it so well .
Your fabulous at teaching, I love the way you pronounce ukulele, there is a million things i loves watching you, stay safe, bright and smiling 🧞♂️
You're such a wonderful teacher with such a cheery personality! I'm a beginner and I'm learning so much from you! Thanks!
I am just getting started on the ukulele and by far you are the best teacher on here so thank you so much for your gift of teaching! ❤
I can finally play “My L’manburg” thank you so much :)
What a beautiful teacher I can watch and watch this gorgeous girl playing the ukulele and she made everything so ease , thank you very much.
I had given up hope learning to play, until I saw your tutorials. Thank you!
Where have you been all my life? You are such an easy teacher to learn from.
You're so gentle and calm, excellent teacher!
I had to watch a few hallelujah tutorials before I came across this one and this by far was the easiest to follow along to and understand especially since I just got my first ukulele yesterday!!

As a music teacher you are actually a genius Bernadette you also have a beautiful, sweet and encouraging voice.
Excellent tutorial. Very clear. Quick question - in the verse, where F and G chords are strummed once, how would this be reflected if picking? Thanks!
I'm asking myself the same question!
An excellent tutorial, thank you so much. I've just bought a ukulele at 70 years old and am looking forward to learning this. 🙏🙏🤔🙄🇬🇧
Wow you are an amazing teacher!
Thank u. You look like a nice person. No condescension in your lesson...
Just kindness and sweet goodwill. It just feels good.
Did you ever find the answer to this? I’m wondering as well
@@madisonkyle782 yeah! basically what you do is switch midway through the string plucking so you'd pluck the "G C E" for one chord then "A E C" for the next one :))
You are a good teacher. How you put the cords on the side of the screen is very helpful. Thank you
Hi, I love the tutorial, but I have a question. If you're finger picking the whole song and the finger picking pattern is two beats, how do you finger pick the F and G chords that are held for one beat?
Since 2 beats is string plucks I pluck the first 3 in F and the second 3 in G
Kindest of Regards
Sarah E Bowker😊
Hi guys, found the answer in another video 😉 For the F/G "the 4th, the 5th"... You play GCE on the F, and AEC on the G. Hard to do at first but after practice, it's really nice 😁
Omg thank you I was going insane!!!
@@rancidcheese5076 i know right 😉 Easier and very nice too, play once all the chords at the same time for the F and G.
You are the best teacher. Thank you for all your time.
I love the flowers on the headstock of your uke soooooo beautiful! Just like you 😜😍😘xxxx
Did i just play the whole song from the first try?! You are doing magic! Thank you!
Oh yes!!! 🙌🏼
This was a well-focused tutorial. Thank you.
Thank you Jonathan 🤗 I appreciate that!
Best teacher by far! Soy principiante explicas muy bien . Me encanta! Muchas gracias.
I love this song so much! It makes me cry every time I hear it. Thank you for doing a tutorial on it ❤️
And your angelic voice is very fit for the song! I couldn't practice along rightaway now but I definitely sang along the whole time (although an octave lower 😅)
I came here to learn and completely froze at how divinely beautiful your voice is. Thank you!
By the way , I always play this in my Low g uke, it also sounds great 👍.✌🏻&❤️
Definitely the best Ukulele teacher yet! Thank you!
The fingerstyle really does sound beautiful :)
you are so lovely. Favorite Ukulele teacher. You look like my daughter. My children love learning from you and you seem so wholesome and sweet, perfect for children
Hallelujah , praise Miss B 🙆 I really wish I had nails like you, do you think if I chew a bone a day🐶, mine will grow?
Thank you I just got my 1sr ukulele 4 days ago and now I can play this after a few hrs of practice. You are an amazing teacher.

Which concert ukulele would you recommend; the Cordoba or Enya?
I love it when you say..
"One two ready go"
Thank you Ms.B.
You know I brought work with me on vacation!!! My RUclips family is important to me! ❤️
Kevin and I have been playing together and do plan on going on camera together somehow!
You are so good teaching.Thank you it's the best tutorial
Thank you so much 😊
Glad you liked this tutorial!
I love your videos♥ You really help me♥ thank you 💖
Okay.. Two things I want to say:
XOXO!
if i wanna do the finger picking technique, how would i do it in the verse when the F and G only have one count?
wondering about the same thing!
so I was wondering about the same thing too, but then I figured out to just change after the fist three picks.
There’s a lot going on if you do that but that’s what I like the most
@@mia96 thanks
@@kingonipaayt3045 that sounds good
I'm Brazilian, I really liked your perfect tutorial. Congratulations. 😍🙏🏻
Aww 🥰 thank you so much!
it's hard to answer my comments when I do any video on RUclips. I did not expect you to respond to my comment.😍👏🏽👏🏽
