Peter Lucas was such a great secondary villain. I thought that things would get boring with Elias out of commission, but no Peter Lucas is just as dispicable and yet very distinct from Elias.
Spiral is... Is it madness? I can never really understand it. It bends reality, sure, but so does every other fear. Any of you have any idea on what Spiral really is?
All the powers bend reality to their own specific way. The Stranger makes you unable to recognise anything, sort of gives reality itself dementia. The Vast just makes things b i g g e r. The Dark just manifests things in the dark. The Spiral, I always assumed, gave meaning to meaningless things, and those meanings are horrifying. Think those people who see jesus in pancakes and then make Jesus Yog Sothoth. Its a very stimulus based fear.
I think the Spiral is indeed madness. The fear that your own senses are unreliable, that the world isn’t real but how could it not be? I’m not sure if it’s entirely aligned with the others, but I think there’s at least a little bit of that in all of them. Keep in mind I’m not entirely sure. But if I had to guess, that feeling of “This Is Impossible” is sort of like... spices with the others, while the Spiral is one massive red pepper. I think?
The Spiral is madness, hallucination, paradox. It Is Not What It Is. The Stranger deals with seeming, a thing that is a real thing but has a superficial layer to look like something else, to conceal and deceive, it is the Uncanny Valley effect given life. The Spiral can, among its other things, make your senses bend themselves around the wrong way so you're unsure if you're seeing something for real; the Stranger will just present its disguise and let you mistake yourself. It's the difference between internal and external.
It's episodes like this that remind me that none of them signed up for this. Jon was working some fairly mundane job at the institute when Elias saw him walk by and said "YOU. YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE NEXT COMING OF OUR GOD THE BEHOLDING" and Jon was like "shit. Kay can I have some help?" Which I can only imagine Elias cackling madly to himself about before agreeing

Ok, for the record. I liked Elias, even after everything that's happened. Sure, he was a scheming manipulative bastard, but he was our scheming manipulative bastard. And at least he had style. We have enough problems in the archives with the Eye and everything, we really don't need the Lonely there too, especially not with Martin! Don't hurt him like this!!! Completely isolating him from everyone is so much worse than giving him a bit of trauma. They have enough already, that's nothing new, but cutting him off from everyone is *not* okay. In defence, the “ugly” features being described were mostly signs of bad hygiene and poor grooming rather than biological failings
Martin talking to the recorder like its a pet. ... 😭😭😭😭
"would help if you archivist knew how to archive." soo true. . .
S1 Jon: "MOOD"
the magnus institute is in serious need of some formative courses
This was really unsettling. I feel really bad for that lady.
So basically, the reason why the clay won’t get soft enough for her to sculpt is because it’s Mary’s face?
that is disgusting 🚪🏃♂️💨
Hold up WHAT?
I must have missed this memo
Oh my god
...WHAT THE FUCK OH GOD NO-
So glad the worker in clay is finally done with all his labeling!
Right? He’s been labeling for decades, he must be knackered! 😁
I love that all the Michaels in this world are so friendly and polite to humans and then people always respond with horror and hatred lol
Also, MARTIN!!!! BE SAFE!!!!!
"I quit the class after that." As you should have. Go off Deborah. You've seen enough horror films to know when shit starts to go south.
I love the way they interact with the tape recorders. It really gives the vibe that The Eye is synonymous with the audience.
"Here on the lest, those are the library staff?"
"Those are the dates!"
It's little moments like this, were the humor creeps through, that really get me
The theory that we, the viewers are the listeners makes the part where martin talks to the tape recorder feel very wierd
jonmartin this and jonmartin that
i just ship peter lucas with that murder pipe from the 2nd season's finale.
a match made in hell
I know it shouldn't but "bill was there, but he was made of clay" made me laugh so hard
Gabriel's just so enthusiastic and passionate even with his description I can't help but like him as a character.
Also that sculpture of the distortions door💖
The tape recorders are the cats of the Archives 😭
Peter Lucas was such a great secondary villain. I thought that things would get boring with Elias out of commission, but no Peter Lucas is just as dispicable and yet very distinct from Elias.
Gabriel trying to make a(nother?) friend in a spiraly way is honestly adorable he's trying but he's failing
Huh... That makes sense... Thanks for the insight.
Here's something that just popped into my head. The Stranger is "I can't trust any of you", The Spiral is "I can't trust my own senses"
nooo don't isolate martin, go talk to jon, ahhh the whole season is gonna be like this I know it.
I took a ceramics class in high school and lemme tell ya-- I can SMELL this story.
That smell will haunt me until I'm dead
It's episodes like this that remind me that none of them signed up for this. Jon was working some fairly mundane job at the institute when Elias saw him walk by and said "YOU. YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE NEXT COMING OF OUR GOD THE BEHOLDING" and Jon was like "shit. Kay can I have some help?" Which I can only imagine Elias cackling madly to himself about before agreeing
He's just crafting, leave him alone Deborah
Why are all the spiral avatars named after angels. Gabriel, Michael, what's next? A Raphael? A Brachial?
what about Helen?
plus there's like a million michaels in TMA tbf
as an sculptor this was highly disturbing!❤️
Me, an artist called Rosa living in the UK: Bruh...
Eastwood Park prison is right by where I grew up 😬
Okay I finally have the perfect analogy for this series. It's like that scene from Rocky Horror except it never finishes the word. I just sit here shaking in antici.......
........pation
idk why it took so long for me to figure out this episode was the spiral, I kept thinking of the flesh
I know its scary but Bill being made of clay made me absolutely lose it in laughter
Damn Peter really be saying "gaslight gatekeep girlboss"
as someone thats super into surrealist art and oddities the weird clay fish sounds super fucking rad
I always find a good chuckle of "Micheal" or whoever he was at the time taking a pottery class for sh!ts & giggles
same, but this is the worker in clay, a different being
michael wasn't ever a person before he was michael, he was just still a friend of gabriel's as a spooky door
"i suppose i could've run before, but i wouldn't want to seem *rude* "
MICHAEL THE FRIEND :DDD also Gabriel being a creep but showing the thing to the protagonist really sounds like this one "friend" who have a crush on you is creepy but he is too nice for someone to tell him to fuck off
Also Jon only language he can't understand: university type of notes
holy shit i made it into TMA
congrats, can't wait for your art show
125- John cutting and removing a bullet
126- Sculptor's tools gfjdkhgfdfg
Gabriel!!! The worker of clay who has labelled for decades!!! Yay!
Okay I think I'm missing something. What's this stuff about labeling?
it's a blooper
@@virginiaf4117 it's one of the bloopers, Michael was supposed to say "labored for decades" but the person who voices him kept accidentally saying "labelled"
@@cal_amity7319 lol I love that
This episode is equal parts ominously spooky and hilarious. Love Martin sassing boomer!Peter
I love this art class energy
I tried to listen to these on the official site, but apparently, I underestimated just how much the comment section helps me stave off the creeping horror.
Came back because having all this horror without the comments and random ads to break the mood was a bit too much for me.
I've never trusted Lukas for one bit and I never really liked him, but after this episode, I would like to modify that statement to "Kill it! Kill it with fire!"
God, never thought I'd say this, but I want Elias back if they're our only two options...
Leave them alone, Peter! (Poor choice of words, pun not intended)
These kids serving a fear because they're scared or too awkward to just say no or dip will always be the most hilarious thing to me😂😂
my boy gabe just Sculpted The Spiral
i have a suspicion that even if elias assigned peter lukas, he didnt want him to do this. sure, maybe he would feed the lonely an avatar as a payment, but he wouldnt want a ritual
As a sculptor, I can confirm this is normal behavior in the field
elias please come back, you're forgiven

i love gabriel hes a good art boy
I've been listening to these and haven't commented yet, but this episode really hit me differently. I don't know why but it's the perfect amount of absurd, twisted horror that makes me equally impressed and unsettled. I'm not really contributing anything I guess but I had to say how much I enjoyed this statement in particular lol
