me? make another animatic to one of Marianas Trench’s seven-minute medleys? it’s more likely than you think!
jokes aside, I wanted to make one last love letter to The Magnus Archives. it is a very, very special media that struck me with its passion, nuance, and sincerity, and I’m not sure how well I can really word just how much it means to me. while I was only around for the tail end of it, getting to engage with it and the fandom as it ended was not an experience I will be forgetting anytime soon.
something like TMA doesn’t come around often. I’m honored to have been there for the end.

The Lukases fund the institute, and also worked with the Fairchilds and the people’s church of the divine host to fund the Daedalus. The web and the desolation don’t get along because it’s very difficult to manipulate someone whose main goal is as simple as burning stuff down
I think it's an artifact and tether of the Web that's mocking the Desolation with its design.

how was it? (i listened to it a year ago, and have been wanting to find someone else who listened to it so i can relive it vicariously, statement style)
@@micahconnor8954 I've become obsessed haha. From watching the animatic what I retained was that there were eyeball powers, and a cabin at some point. I thought it would be similar to gravity falls I guess? So at first I was just listening while cleaning etc., and I like horror so I was enjoying it, but I had little investment in the characters. I definitely had a "should I be writing down these names and details?" feeling, but was only really paying partial attention. Then ***spoilers below*** the murder of jurgen leitner happened (breaking the table helped as well I suppose, but that murder... ooh boy). That was electrifying for my investment and interest in the series. It instantly flipped what parts of each episode I was interested in: previously I just liked the statements, but starting season 3 I couldn't get enough of the overarching plot. I stopped being able to listen while doing other things, because I wanted to give it my full attention. It also reeeally helps that I love main characters who get in way over their heads and suffer horrible consequences (so you can guess how much I adore our archivist). Episode 92 (with Elias revealing his crimes) made me literally giddy. And though I knew from the animatic that something bad was going to happen after the cabin, I still got caught by surprise at how absolutely brutal it was. From episode 159 to the end of the podcast I listened all within 1 weekend basically without stopping. Coming to the fandom late, I didn't get any of the creator commentary about the podcast being a "grim souffle" etc, so I was entirely unprepared for how relentlessly brutal 160 to the end is. Like... everyone has awful trauma, and they never get a chance to rest or breathe, and there is never even a chance for a happy ending. Only bad endings and worse endings. UGH it is so brutal and heartbreaking and I love it so much. I've been indulging in a lot of time travel fix-it fanfics haha.
Anyway hope that satisfied your vicarious urges, feel free to ask any more questions, none of my friends like horror so I am desperate to obsess with others.

This honestly was the most moving and beautiful animatic for The Magnus Archives I have ever seen. You have captured it in such a **powerful** way. It honestly broke my heart all over again in the best way possible. Absolutely beautiful.
I've never seen/read the Magnus Archives before, and I can definitely attest to how powerful this animatic is. I now want to see it and witness all the heartbreak they all went through

Ok so. I’ve never interacted with Magnus Archives in my life, but I am a huge Marianas Trench fan, and I am a sucker for creative animatics/animations, so this was a very pleasant experience. The story was easy to follow and I think I understood the gist of the story, so I can easily tell you that you did an amazing job! I love it and I hope to see more where that came from! :)

So impressive! I especially love how each character and moment is instantly recognisable from context clues even without relying on the few canonical details (like the various scars or items), as well as the subtle but huge progression of Jon's appearance through time. And it's so dynamic without feeling rushed either! Really great work.
i cant get over the shots and camera movements, im in awe at the creativity. jane looking up into martin's peephole while worms cover it and the perspective of the pipes as jon descends into the tunnels is just SO GOOD AH.

Secondly, you fit the ENTIRE FREAKING SERIES into this animatic without rushing ANYTHING that's so goddamn impressive I'm completely blown away!! It's all so well scripted and the pacing is perfectly matched to the song! Your usage of colors is so GOOD, how you give each place its own palette and stuff it's just really beautiful! Your editing? SO GOOD- I especially love the editing of the eyepocalypse at 4:47 and the dizzying pan of the Distortion's corridors at 3:47 I also love all the little details you added like Jon and Martin's ace rings. I also gotta say this is the only time I've seen Peter's death portrayed as bloody and I am HERE FOR IT

i gotta say your timing with the music is like immaculate. too often i see animatics that have beautiful frames but they go by way too fast. god i absolutely love the scene when the unknowing starts. also that song is like uber dope. I also love the way you animated the distortions' door. it super cool concept seeing it crack into reality.

This animatic is why i ended up listening to the archives, didn't really spoil anything, but when i come back after so many episodes the more events here i understand and can point out.
I don't go here, just love the song, but holy shit I'm so impressed despite not knowing any of the context of the fandom. This is masterful and I can imagine how much incredible hard work went into it.

"a remnant trace, a glimpse of you" as tim and sasha vanish is such a good choice. also it punches me in the gut every time (which i mean in the most positive way possible)

Excuse me OP but the 0:37 with Gertrude and Michael observing her before vanishing in the background AND THE DAMN CIGARETTE BREAK she shared with elias made me emotional for the ruthless old lady. Of course they had cigarette breaks. Of course they had small office moments. And i LOVE the implication that elias had a form of "love" for her because 20 years with his archivist... of course there was a bond. And of course michael kept checking in every now and then, never confronting her directly because all 14 are terrified of her, but... observing. A remnant of the eye.
Also i do not thank you for 1:16 because I had........ somehow...... never imagined the worm holes as bleeding, AND OF COURSE THEY ARE, but you made them wonderfully horrifying.

Blood coming from Peter's death is something I've never seen but it's really interesting! I absolutely love this, you show the story of TMA well and I love your designs sm!!!
i like that interpretation of it, because it implies that when jon says "look at me martin, what do you see?" that martin sees jon covered in blood and immediately goes "yup, that's my jon"

Dw I’m 6 years late & had the exact same experience, timeline and all. I finished the finale, immediately called my gf (who got me into the series) to rant about it for an hour, attempted to recover emotionally for another hour, got back on RUclips and immediately watched this. And then I watched it five more times in a row. It’s my favorite animatic of all time and it so perfectly captures the series.
Wow wow ok I was completely blown away by this. The way way you matched not only the lyrics but also the different ‘movements’ within the song to the flow of TMA’s story? You must be some sort of genius because you made it fit so well. Like Sasha with “didn’t realize who’s gone”, “can’t get out from under it” with Jon and then the institute staff, Daisy with “if madness overtakes us.” Those are just some examples because there are just so many that are just… so satisfying thematically. Also just so many smart story boarding choices, like the door motif near the beginning and tbh all the “I know I know” sequences. The escalation of intensity with every “I don’t love the bottle but the bottle loves me”. And the way the swell of the music fit with the most powerful moments,,,, the writhing of the worms, Jon grabbing Daisy’s hand, the STAB!!! Seriously, this got my heart beating from pure emotion. Amazing job.

This animatic came out when I was somewhere in the middle of season 3 and I´ve been watching it bit by bit every time I finished a couple of episodes. Today I finished the last episode and could finally watch this until the end. It has been a great companion and visualisation along the whole way and you´ve done an amazing job with it.

OMG THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!! I was almost in tears by the end aaa!!! the imagery with all the different doors at 0:23 was so cool and then the eye imagery with the unknowing and then the safe house lighting was so warm and THEN THE ENDING AND THE SETTINGS aaa this was amazing!
idk this fandom/series, but I love Marianas Trench and i rarely see their music being used in animatics, so this is a huge treat for me ^-^ Wonderful job on the video! I might watch the series so i can appreciate this more, but until then I'll have this on repeat ❤

Oh my god. This is perfect. The animation, the backgrounds, the character moments, the style, all of it was perfect. A beautiful animatic is too simple a way to describe what this was.
Holy shit this is a masterpiece, your timing is perfect all the way through, the expressions are so wonderfully emotive, you've concentrated 200 episodes of feels down to under seven minutes and it's amazing.

I actually came across this video a while ago just because I love Marianas Trench, knowing absolutely zero about The Magnus Archives, but I enjoyed it a lot even though I didn’t really understand the images. made a mental note to check it out at some point and moved on.

It has been a full week since I listened to the last episode. I have now watched this video an estimated fifteen times since then. It's just so good. All the story beats are there and perfectly timed to both lyrical and emotional punches in the music. The apocalypse triggering on the powerful harmony of "stay" was particularly good, and particularly painful after the soft sweet safe house moments. I love this. Thank you.
I've watched this video over a few times and where the other TMA videos I seem to get use to the build up and ending, this one still floods me with so much emotion. It's such a full depiction of the series and is just so beautifully animated with the music. Honestly, you deserve every praise people can say about this! It's amazing!

apparently I'm not done thinking about this actually because I'm writing this down in a text document at midnight to post as a comment after. I have watched this video like five times this week at least. this is so fucking well planned out. like you have each season matching up so well with each section of music, which is already outstanding, but then you have the lyrics lining up too like with Tim at Sasha's desk and Martin in The Lonely's domain and Gertrude seeing Jonah (etc etc). don't even get me started on Tim holding up the detonator with the music going Off in the background or the flicking through all the important doors in Jon's life or the way you introduced the Eye-pocalyse with each character by a window or looking up at the Eye in the sky like that is so cool. I refuse to think about watching Martin stab Jon bc I felt real grief for a second there like you 100% hit me with that. it's amazing how well you made this fit and how well you seemed to think it through. there's so many good details. A+++ animatic, thank you very much for your hard work.
