Great guide, well organized and straight to the point. Love to see it. I think this might be one of the strongest faiths. And best part is its versatility.
Highly recommend collecting all the stones of Barenziah for an Old Ways worshipper. You’ll have more gems than you know what to do with, and can essentially live in Dragon Aspect 24/7!
That thought had occurred to me, but I didn't include it in the video because even without the crown, I had plenty of gems. You get alot of them just from mining ore veins and looting urns, as well as run-of-the-mill chests. I've never come close to running out. BUT, using a never-ending supply of gems to keep you in Dragon Aspect perpetually is a *really* compelling synergy I had not considered. Thank you for the tip!
Sure thing! I do them over the course of relevant playthroughs, culminating in a general full build guide for the character, so they might trickle out a bit slowly, but they're coming :)
This was very well explained. I think I gave Wintersun a try a long time ago, when I was still into modding. It is a fascinating mod with so much depths and details, while trying to be lore firendly. So many cool builds can be created using just this mod. This is a good video, my friend. Keep up the great work. 🤩
One of my favorite dieties in wintersun is Z'en who can be worshipped by wood elves and I think other elves. However, the reason I like worship of Z'en is because it doubles the duration of potions and food consumed while praying and increases their effectiveness based on favor. Its also very easy to gain favor for Z'en because you can simply eat food to gain favor which is incredibly easy to find in massive quantities and is very cheep to purchase. Lastly, as a devotee you gain access to an interdimensional storage space while praying which allows you to carry around all extra potions and ingredients, and generally lets you just pick up absolutely everything to sell later which can be incredibly useful for those of us who are massive hoarders. I personally like to take everything that isn't nailed down even things like pots and pans which if you use crafting mods can often be broken down for iron ingots. With Ordinator or vokrii you can easily get potion durations of 30 minutes or even durations over 2 hours long.
I just bought a vr headset 2 weeks ago and most Skyrim mods are compatible including wintersun! Was looking for something to explain the old ways since I think they’re cool, and I discover this video that was made a couple days before my real play through! Thanks so much for the good explanation! I do kind of wish the percentages could go up to 50% better rather than 20% at the cost of much slower favor gain though!
Awesome! Skyrim VR is amazing :) With Ordinator, and the rest of the Enai-Rim suite, 20% feels like plenty. But, 50% would be better for off-build boosts. Like if your warrior needed to do a sneak mission. Or if your Archer needed to do some melee.
Notably the aspect of the moth stacks with one of the ordinator enchanting perks which can take you enchantments considerably stronger which is great especially if your weapon enchantments are integral to your build. Additionally, you can increase weapon enchantments even further with Zim's enchanting potion changes which makes it increase weapon enchantments in the same way.
Yep, really good info here! The perk you're talking about is Thunderstruck, which gives +25% enchantment magnitude on power attacks for one-handed weapons, and +50% on two-handed weapons. Not sure if that stacks additively or multiplicatively with the Aspect of the Moth, but is still a huge boost either way. Great for a Forsworn or Clever Man Spellsword/Battlemage archetype!
@@carn114It can also be good for builds which use shouts if using summermyst. The enchantment which refreshes powers is quite strong, but has a very low amount of scaling especially with mods that remove the fortify alchemy loop.
Yeah, I spent alot of time the last couple weeks figuring out a way to get high quality camera and game footage simultaneously. It's something I hope to do more. I feel like having a face to look at while listening is more engaging, somehow.
I've done little to nothing with wintersun, but I can see this being a great addition to a Forsworn type of character, especially swapping out totems to fit the task. Take a Breton and combine them with this and the armor of the old gods...that sounds like a fun character. :) I'd consider resurrecting my Augur of Jehanna, Kel Sorbusu with this.
Wintersun is one of my favorites. It not only helps with your gameplay "build," but it also aids roleplay by giving your character constant direction and rituals to perform. It's a great way to flesh-out a character in many different ways, and rewards you with tangible in-game effects so you don't have to make believe :)
I know this video is kind of old but just wanted to say that when you put on the wooden mask there pretty sure you go back in time to an era that the dragon cult was in power hence the mask you can get. not a parallel dimension
Yes, eventually! I need a character build for context for these guides, so when I eventually do a necromancer character, the King of Worms will be my bae :)
@@carn114I believe it's just enchanting, there was some discussion on the subreddit about Ahzidal being the first nord enchanter and if you open Wintersun in xEdit, everything but enchanting is improved
@@carn114 Also a +40% enchanting bonus on The Old Ways would make it stronger than Auri-El/Zenithar/Riddle-Thar which is probably another reason Enai excluded it because then it would be both strong and versatile.
@x_x714 yeah, that would do alot, wouldn't it? Though, to be fair, if Alchemy buff is kept, that's an even more ubiquitous buff than enchanting, albeit with more prerequisite tedium to get there.
Thanks! Ah, looks like I neglected my usual links! Here's the modwatch link: modwat.ch/u/carn114 It's based on the NOLVUS guide from like 3 years ago, and I've added/removed a bunch of stuff over the years. My dood is wearing the Bosmer cowl, gauntlets and boots, and Mercenary Armor. All from Immersive Armors with the Xavbio fixes and retextures.
So, to me it looks like the effects scale at 1/10th your favor or 1/5th your favor with the exception of the whale which appears to scales at a 3/5th favor.
Yes, for the most part, the math is simple. For the Whale, I think it's pumped up so high because of the nice role it fills, only being effective against power attacks.
Great guide, well organized and straight to the point. Love to see it. I think this might be one of the strongest faiths. And best part is its versatility.
Thanks alot! Yeah, I think having something to tinker with makes it much more fun than some of the "set 'n forget" faiths in the mod.

I can't believe I've never seen this before with the amount of time I've had Wintersun in my game. Excellent stuff!
It's a cool one, but Enai *really* hides it well, lol

Thanks boon! Always trying to find ways to put out better content :)
you and me both. And I think you succeed.

Nice! Haven't done a Z'en playthrough yet, but it sounds crazy strong for any alchemist build. Or really any build with purchased potions.

Also showing your face adds a lot to the video. Nice touch.

My dragonborn using the old ways so this is very helpful! Thanks Carn.
Happy to help!
The aspect of the wolf synergies well with war hammers perks from ordinator and the valdrs lucky dagger.
Yeah, vanilla crits are butt.
But Ordinator crits are serious. Not a bad idea leaning into them.
Good call!

@narutoline yeah, makes sense, and is pretty cool stuff!
Hello! Thank you for the videos of this mod! Could you please make a video of Mannimarco?
Yes, eventually! I need a character build for context for these guides, so when I eventually do a necromancer character, the King of Worms will be my bae :)
One thing to note is that the aspect of th dragon does not improve enchanting
Huh, that is very interesting. Is that the only one? Or is it all non-combat crafting skills like smithing and alchemy too?

What’s the mod for the items I saw in the beginning?
Edit: actually what’s the mod list it looks insanely good!
