Dan I'm so happy for you. You are so lucky to be able to enjoy so much garden space with your family and in such an amazing climate! Absolutely love your gardens and this video and thank you for the tutorial! Stay blessed
Love the planting space you left at the top of each step. Your family is charming. Thanks for the video. I am thinking about how to tackle my slope and you've given me so good ideas.
I’ve done a similar thing in my garden but I really like your idea of the lil slabs my big problem was the basically solid clay ground I had to work with broke my back lol. Good job dude 👍🏻
Well done that’s fabulous, I need to do something like this, but don’t have any experience in doing this sort of job. The slippery slope is pretty steep compared to your project, so the steps will probably need to be shorter, and perhaps around a foot depth in comparison. I shall give it a great deal of thought. Thankyou for your video
So great to see a kid friendly project come together! I have a 1 yr old and 3 yr old - so perhaps perfect to tackle this summer! :). I would love to know how you think this solution has held up after a few yers.
Good job, but I'd never put stones in again cos weeds by the thousands have grown up thru them for many yrs, Ive thought about laying a thick layer of cement dust over the stones & then lightly wetting it with hose on sprinkle to block out all gaps & opportunity for weeds to grow thru, but my stones cover a huge area so I never tried it, but it might work really well in smal stone gaps like yours.
That's a good idea. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching. Yeah, I've been burned before with large areas of stone and always put weed matting down now if I'm doing any stones or mulch areas.
Everything seems amazing except that soil in the corner. Doesn't look like ux is going to be great. When I go upstairs I like to put feet close to the next stair
very nice! i loved the video! does anyone know of a video of doing an arched staircase? i have somewhat steep graded landscape and will no doubt need to do it that way.
yi wang it was potting soil. The soil already there wasn't great for growing things. So I mixed in potting soil to add some organic matter to help things grow 😊
Thanks, Danny: I am building a steep step on my backyard slope. Home Depot staff recommend me that it is better to remove all soil from the wood frame (which I build under your instruction) and put "Patio/Paver Base" into the wood frame in order to keep bricks firmly in the base. They told me soil might lose the bricks in the wood frame. Do you think it is necessary to remove the soil and put "patio/paver base" instead? thanks again.
The existing soil under the pavers was ok in my case but you could put down a paver base to make bricks firmer. But if you can compact the existing soil enough the bricks should be pretty solid anyway. I only put the potting soil in a thin line under each step to grow small plants in front. Hope that helps.
Hey Danny thanks for the video I have exactly the same type of slope in my garden. What size where your wooden lengths, where they 6" x 2 ". Thanks JIM
I had the wood laying around left over from other things, but if I had to buy it I would have needed 4 treated pine posts (200mm X 50mm X 2.4m) which cost about $13 each. The brackets were less than $1 each. So all up would have been about $50-$60 AUD.
I ended up planting Stachys byzantina or Lamb's Ears in all three, however they got pulled out of one of the steps when the boys were bored one day :-/ They might get too big and I'll have to rethink, but they're good for now.
Hey, this is from Jukin Media an LA-based media company we are interested in your video and want to partner with you. Please contact us back so we can discuss more. Thank you
I really love how you allowed your children to be a part of the process. People always act like our kids don’t try to help and get in our way.

Ouch! That sucks. I'm definately greatful for our good soils here. Thanks for watching.

Just what you on your steps, plants.

The music robs all the joy. 🙉

i can probably just modify the general idea. kudos, Danny
Thanks for watching Absalom David. What do you mean by an arched stair?
If you went to the home store for the bracket why not grab the board needed to finish the top step?
Haha. Good point. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Sleep depravation probably ;-)
Hi, Danny: nice work! I just learn from you. 1 more question, at the last, I saw you put some black soil into the cubic, what is that?
yi wang it was potting soil. The soil already there wasn't great for growing things. So I mixed in potting soil to add some organic matter to help things grow 😊

makes sense! thanks, Danny!
Hey Danny
thanks for the video I have exactly the same type of slope in my garden.
What size where your wooden lengths, where they 6" x 2 ".
Thanks
JIM
Thanks Jim. They are 8" x 2" (200x50mm) treated pine sleepers.
hi ! but why with woods ? better would ve been bricks or stones .....
Hi. Thanks for watching. I had the wood laying around already so it was an obvious choice and meant I didn't have to spend too much.
Any issues with this after heavy rainfall?
Hi Ray. No, the steps held up nicely in the rain. They slowed the flow enough that there was no running water so no washing away of soil.
What was your total material cost?? Thx
I had the wood laying around left over from other things, but if I had to buy it I would have needed 4 treated pine posts (200mm X 50mm X 2.4m) which cost about $13 each. The brackets were less than $1 each. So all up would have been about $50-$60 AUD.
What size wood are u using ?
They were 200x50mm pine sleepers. So 8x2 inches I think.
What did you end up planting there?
I ended up planting Stachys byzantina or Lamb's Ears in all three, however they got pulled out of one of the steps when the boys were bored one day :-/ They might get too big and I'll have to rethink, but they're good for now.
524.
I hate that background music, very Irritating.
