Today you will be seeing our whole winter house tour, including the basement and the attic. I will also be sharing some of my DIY decorating tips and a few design and home remodeling projects I am working on. Whether we sell our house or not, we are cleaning, purging, painting and you will see it all, including the organized mess in our attic and basement. As an interior designer and magazine publisher, it's sometimes scary to share our home, especially when we still have so much going on. That said, I feel like we are friends and this is my life in New England.
Spring will be here before we know it, so the more home decor and decorating I can do, the more time I will have to be outside working on the home and gardens.

I love the fact that there are people who still love the older homes and are not tearing down everything inside and making it modern! I have a 1915 home that I bought after a divorce. I have been taking it back to it's period time. I am the 3rd owner but a art teacher had it with colors and wallpaper on everything from the 60's. I love all your ideas and that had helped me. Thank you for sharing and showing that old can be new!

Shower curtain out, toilet paper over. I taught my miniature golden doodle to "tidy" her toys. One word commands. For this it's "Tidy". I started by bringing her toy box towards me and telling her to get specific toys on the floor. She would bring them to me and I would then tell her to "drop" them into the box. Once she did that, she got a treat. I have her doing it every evening and now after a year, not only does she do it on command, but sometimes when she wants a treat, she'll take a toy from her toybox then drop it right back in, sit and wait to be treated! LOL Doodles are such smart dogs!
LOL😂. I love when people teach their pets to do cool stuff like that. Just goes to show that if you can teach your dog to pick up their toys, you can teach your kids. There’s no excuse! 👍
Shower curtain out unless it impedes with toilet access. Toilet paper over 😊

Shower curtain out, don’t want it wet, as for toilet paper over, it was patented over plus it’s easier to roll without the paper sticking to the wall. Thank you for the tour of your lovely home.

Well, that was fun! I keep the shower curtain out and the plastic liner in. Once in a while hubby gets the outside curtain in, but then he’s in trouble. LOL. Toilet tissue goes over otherwise I can’t find the end, and I noticed hotels put it over with that cute little fold they do.
Your home is beautiful Linda. A work in progress. Lovely. Messy? No... organized chaos I say. If you know where it is...your fine!! Shower curtain out...liner in. If it’s just a curtain, put it in during shower... out when dry. Toilet paper over. Love that pail blueish wall paper that was kind of a Toile and the lighter greenish one you left up in office for the breakfast room. Both are so beautiful. I like the dark railing as well. It really adds a nice contrast in the hallway and stairway. Your home just gives me a warm welcome feeling. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Love the toilet paper over, and shower curtain outward. I guess I’m an outrovert if that’s even a word hahaa. Love your place and how it’s coming along! So cozy. There is no harm in placing a bed in front of the window(s). Not sure why there is aversion to this. I live in an old house and there are many windows and I don't have a choice for bed placement especially when you want a pleasing focal point when you enter the room. I really enjoyed seeing you home again you and your husband are doing a lovely job on your house. I hope you find your unicorn house.

Our home goes up for sale This Monday. Here is New England the prices are still climbing. Houses are going up 100k over value in some cases. We will make a great amount on our home, but we will spend more than we want for the next home. I am so SICK of prepping the house to sell! I adore your kitchen its my favorite. Your *mess* Is just fine. It looks great to me. Although everything you do is beautiful. Even your messes lol
Yes regarding the house prices. One home we looked at seemed priced about 300K over the area homes and the Realtor bluntly told me that people are paying it so why not ask for it. Homes are selling before we can even go look at them. Good luck on the sale of your home! Are you staying in New England?

I am older than you, been there... downed sized, three different times...loved every move... suddenly my husband of 40 yrs passed, and have moved to a beautiful lg two bedroom with lg two attached bathrooms... so love my apt... find your unicorn home while the both of you still have each other... lovely home❤

Oh Linda!! What a LOVELY Home you have!! Why not stay?? The views and neighborhood is fantastic, and you have more projects still to do there. Your heart is in this home. If you do decide to move, then you should definitely take the mantle with you that you and your Mom restored years ago from your ancestral home. If you don't you will surely be kicking yourself in years to come. I love the kitchen ladder back chairs. They are fabulous. No need to leave any furnishings or mantles~ just replace with something of same value or better or leave the new owners a dollar amount for their choice in replacement. BTW, I am also a Smith and a Davis descendant. - Bren

where are you moving to? before, during, and after would be great. Shower curtain out if it is decorative, and toilet paper over so you do not scratch/mar the cabinetry or the toilet paper holder
About beds in front of the windows. When I was growing up in middle TN, it was common for my older family to put their beds in the corner. Their term was to place the bed 'caddy corner'. Not sure why they did that. Maybe because the rooms were small and it gave them more wall space? or maybe it was better than pushing the bed up against the wall which makes it so hard to make the bed. I remember well twin beds for the children being placed against the wall to give space between the beds. Very hard to make the bed up, because you can't get behind it. lol Love your historic home. I will be sad to see you move from it. I love the colors you have for it. The exterior color green is my favorite. I am trying to talk my husband into painting our house that shade of green. (if I can figure out what shade is closest to that color) as well as the white trim. I also like the shade of off white on your interior walls. On my monitor, it looks to be a creamy kind of shade. Which I like. I like the warmth of light that it reflects, without the blinding light bouncing off the modern farmhouse white that I see on so many videos. Makes my eyes hurt. I don't know how they can stand living in it. I think I would go snow blind in a house with rooms painted that bright. lol

Lovely home tour, thank you for your video. TP over, I have a double hook with a cotton water resistant shower curtain insert inside the tub with shower curtain outside.. It saves washing the shower curtain so often.

Re shower curtain, I have 2 on the same rod. The plain plastic one sits on the inside to keep the water in and the second one is the pretty one - usually a fabric curtain - sits on the outside to cover most of the tub.
Also, re your fabric & wallpaper samples, do you have those handy as a result of being an interior designer ? They’re so darn handy !!! 👏👏

I have a beautiful waste can from The Basket Lady in my kitchen. It’s a willow basket with a separate metal liner and a lid with a leather handle.
Shower Curtain: you should have a) a plastic liner, clear or white with magnets on the bottom...this always stays INSIDE the tub... then b) a 'pretty' fabric outer shower curtain, which stays OUTSIDE of the tub... this can be washed in the machine as needed.

Linda, you always show such loving care of your home. I’ve lived in my 100 y/o English cottage tutor-style home in Los Angeles since my early 20’s (& now in my 60’s). Widowed 13 yrs. ago & can’t keep up repairs now, so I appreciate you sharing your own thought process regarding moving. It’s a tough decision for me. ❤️

Thank you for the tour of your beautiful home. When I'm going through closets and bins to declutter, I always seem to make a bigger mess! I enjoyed seeing Willow. We lost our sweet Sophie three days before Christmas. She was a hurricane Katrina rescue and brought our whole family so much love and joy. We were so fortunate to have her.

Hi Linda. Just found your lovely channel, which I’m thoroughly enjoying and realized we have such similar paths. My husband and I love NE as much as you do and just over a year ago now, moved to Dorset VT, just outside of Manchester (watched your Manchester video) from the south shore of Boston. Boston was supposed to be our “retirement move” but we’re so very happy we decided to move on to VT and found a sweet home that needs TLC but has killer view. In scrolling down to see the home you moved from I discovered your former home was in Ipswich! I too lived in Ipswich as a child and it has always held a special place in my heart. I’m sure that’s what precipitated my love for NE. Your NH home is gorgeous. We actually looked at several homes in NH over the years before deciding on VT, one of them being a converted church in Dublin. Oh, and did I mention, my name s Linda as well😂. Watching your projects gives me inspiration to work on our many projects at our Vermont home. Thank you!

Loved the house tour. I am homesick for New England living. I grew up in an old three story house with a basement in natick, MA. I have memories of playing hide in seek . It was so much fun!!!!!
