Greetings! The error you're experiencing on Namecheap while updating PHP, specifically "Error: No selector dir for user XXX," is a common issue that generally indicates a misconfiguration in your .htaccess file or a missing PHP selector directory.
Here are the steps you can follow to resolve this issue:
      Verify .htaccess Configuration:
Check your .htaccess file for any PHP version directives. Look for lines similar to AddHandler application/x-httpd-php74 .php and ensure they correspond to the PHP version you want to use. If you find any incorrect lines or old PHP version handlers, update or remove them.
Next, Update PHP Version in cPanel:
Log in to your Namecheap cPanel.
Go to the "Software" section and click on "Select PHP Version."
Choose the desired PHP version from the dropdown menu.
      Click "Set as current."
Ensure PHP Selector is Properly Installed:
Namecheap uses CloudLinux for PHP version selection. Ensure the PHP selector is properly installed and configured. Contact Namecheap support if you suspect the PHP selector might not be installed correctly.
      Check for Missing Directories:
Ensure the selector directory exists within your /opt/alt/ or /etc/cl.selector/ path, which is typically where PHP versions and configurations are stored.
If these directories are missing or incorrectly set, Namecheap support might need to intervene to restore or configure them.
      Permissions and Ownership:
Verify that the permissions and ownership of your PHP-related files and directories are correct. Incorrect permissions can lead to various issues. Common permission settings are 755 for directories and 644 for files. The owner should typically be your cPanel username.
I would contact support if the above doesn't work.
