When dealing with unbonded screed, it may be the case that a sub base through which to pass pipe conduits (electricity and/or water) is used. Can this sub-base be composed of compacted or tamped gravel with sand?

In a wheel barrow or dump it all on a big tarp / plastic sheet and mix and flip with a shovel

Hi E K. It's not about the good or bad. the damp proof membrane prevent the moisture to go through the screed or concrete. So if you need to use DPM then the screed needs to be thicker as the dpm separates concrete & screed.
