    I think it's amazing Toyota are continuing with it. Of course the next generation has better power and other improvements. Continuos improvement is part of Toyota's philosophy. Wouldn't swap mine, it's the homologation special, that can't be replaced.

    Thanks for sharing. Personally I like the look of both interior and exterior. Love the interior and the fact that there even is a mk 2!

    Hi Phil, I was the guy that said he's getting his car in september. That's not the case anymore, I contacted my dealer and he told me it's going to be delivered at the end of march. The september statement was just a guess that was taken given how long the lead times were at the time I ordered.

    Technically the mk2/phase 2 is defo a step up. So many things that I had issues with that seem to be solved with phase 2. Whether it's moving the fog/reverse light out of the bumper cause it melts when the backbox gets too hot, or the front struts are finally 3 bolt top mounts and should have less alignment play, there are plenty of reason why it's a better GR. Nvm it's the GRMN chassis with the additional welding points and adhesive glue, plus anti-lag, more power, etc.
    I feel a little for folks who assumed it's an investment, garage-queen'd them or treated them like Ferrari's. The reality though is that it always was closer to be a mk1 than a unicorn. Especially considering the R&D that went into it and the long-term profitability of the platform, if they keep churning them out as mk2 and so forth... I'd say if you want the greatest driver hatchback you are about to enter a golden age: Get a used mk1 for cheap(er), drive it like you stole it, have fun and don't assume you break even or make a dime when you move on. It will be the best hothatch you'll ever own, until you get a mk2. That ain't a bad thing!

    Personally the most (not all) compelling reason not to swap to a gen2 is that only gen 1 is the homologation model.

    I think the new one will come with the 18x8 bbs forged wheels (+2500 euros extra in France), not 8,5 based on the tested preseries models.

    After 2,5 years of waiting, it kinda sucks that one is able to buy the facelift in april after i got my old one in march. I guess the new one is missing the homologation sticker in the interior. Maybe hence that the car drops not too much down in price. Even when i dont have the plan of selling in in the next 10 years, it still would be nice to know that the car holds the "value" good. Just to have the assurence to get almost all the money back is good to feel.

      I wouldn't worry about it. Some of the changes in the mk2 are not really definite improvements, they are more like set-up changes. Like the suspension, I think it's a big mistake. You can make it stiffer and market it as an improvement, then the people who actually and set-up these cars for rally ect. change everything anyway. So it doesn't really matter if it's stiff or not, it's just for the journalists who test the car on a circuit. Nobody's doing any long term a year long 4 season real world tests. I can already see the mk3 marketing stating that it has more spot welds, how many more can you fit? and why it wasn't done in the first place? It's like three times they've increased the amount of spot welds, there's always more spotwelds to be added. Maybe mk3 or 4 will finally have ALL the spotwelds that are needed and stiffer arb's, springs and shocks to make it as stiff as possible. In my opinion they should've not concentrated on the circuit driving and only let the rally team to test this car, because that would traslate really well into the real world everyday driving on bumpy roads, pot holes, snow and ice. On circuit your going to change the suspension pretty soon after trying it, in rally you're going to change the suspension even before you go out the first time, and on road you really don't want a stiff factory circuit type suspension with shitty shocks.

    About pricing, you have to take the new mk2 pricing in to calculation. They will be much more expensive (see France, Netherland and Denmark) so I imagine the wort of the old ones will hold up.
    Also, the new 2024 will have a lot of new EPAS that will ruin it.

    One more question. Do you know what is the "constant-velocity rear differential" that is to be included with the Kalle edition. How different is that differential from the current one

    hey man, the topic regarding price drops for gen1 cars sits really heavy with some germans atm. you remember the limited edition i mentioned ? after time to order was up, the face lift was announced shortly after lol

    If as they claim the auto is quicker on track and 0-100, how do you think your sequential gearbox matches up?as opposed to the manual as a baseline

    • @RotheliRacing
      @RotheliRacing  5 месяцев назад +3

      The sequential will be faster than the Auto and the Manual. For sure. By far.
      But it won‘t be as comfortable than the Auto. Also by far. 😁

    Gen2 will cost around 10 to 12k more. That alone should mean Gen1 does not lose value.

      Not in Switzerland. Incl. VAT, MK1 base model was CHF 40'900.-. Circuit pack 4'900.- OR premium pack 2'900.- (it was either or). The circuit pack included the forged wheels, which are now separate, but the circuit pack is included in the base model in MK2: base is 44'700.- (CP included), premium pack 1'900.-, forged wheels 2'600.-. For comparison: MK1 with all the packs 48'700.-, MK2 49'200.-, CHF 500.- difference.

    • @mariniam
      @mariniam 2 месяца назад

      But you couldn't get the MK1 with both the packs, right? So it's not a realistic comparison.

      Read again, do the math. How could you compare two cars when they are not the same?
