    Let's surmise this entire nearly 16 minute video. They're similar platforms so the only thing a "modifier" cares about is power to weight ratio. They assume same motor power potential so the only way to change the power to weight ratio is weight. Since GR Yaris is lighter, they recommend the GR Yaris. That's all there is in this vid.

    The final drive ratios are known, you went through all this math to repeatedly say the same thing about the power to weight, should have used some of that math to compare what the final drive might affect. The engineer said this was done specifically to counter the additional weight, should have done calculations to see what difference it makes.
    Engine differences are fairly small, both are forged, but the Corolla the engineer has said the piston metal is stronger. And they've improved the piston oiling. Nothing about springs, nothing about turbo size. Just more boost and improved exhaust back pressure.

    The GR Yaris is always going to have the weight advantage over the GR Corolla; it's less car, but when you went into "weight reduction" calculations, you assumed the same weight would come out of both cars, but there is going to be more weight stripped out of the corolla interior; there is just more of it, as it is more car. There is still going to be a significant weight difference between the two in favor of the Yaris, but it felt worth mentioning.
    The Corolla has an additional ~1.8in/4.6cm of track width, as well as a longer wheelbase, which will result in higher lateral G's and increased high speed stability, again worth noting if you're doing something besides drag racing.
    HOWEVER - I'm looking for one (GR Corolla as I live in North America) as a "stock" until the warranty is up, then "lightly modified" daily, that I can haul my kids around in, I will be dumping a RWD IS350 for it, once I can get the one I want (Circuit edition in red, wish we got the neptune/agean/voodoo blue as an option).
    The GR Corolla makes more sense in our market, where a two door Yaris would have to compete with similarly priced V8 monsters (mustangs, camaros, challengers), the four door can come in as the practical performance vehicle (that isn't another CUV). I used to own a 2006 WRX wagon, and it was practical performance at the time, and accepted mods reasonably well.
    I'd wonder how a Golf R would stack up against a GR Yaris; more weight for sure, but a built EA888 currently has much higher limits (partially due to the existing extensive aftermarket).

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 2 года назад +1

      ruclips.net/video/drlN2nqq92c/видео.html this is how they compare. It depends on the track who is faster or not.
      regarding weight, it would make a couple of kilos i agree but the difference wouldn't be too large.
      The corolla is bigger yes but it will not even out the higher weight. The Yaris already has a wheelbase of a 911 and the track width of a E92 M3 and is considered a traction monster in the twisties.

Honestly, that's probably the best first weak point to have, instead of snapping a rod and sending it through the block or floating a valve and punching a hole in your piston.

    Isn't the GR Corolla going to have more tuning headroom than the GR Yaris because of the thickened cylinder walls (mentioned by Toyota in an interview I saw), so the actual difference in power:weight is going to be mute when pushed to the limits?
    Also, you'd be able to strip out more weight from the Corolla than the Yaris as the interior pieces are larger, so that calculation would require some adjustment. I'd still assume it'd favour the Yaris prior to the potential tuning headroom though.

    The pistons and exhaust valves in the GR Corolla are also a different, stronger alloy, as part of the engine being designed for a higher HP output. Also, the exhaust valves are larger, with stiffer valve springs. They are not identical engines. And the GR Corolla, if you are looking from a tuning perspective, might be the more reliable after mods of the two *because* of those differences, and possibly even handle higher power more safely.

    • @MotiveVideo
      @MotiveVideo  2 года назад +1

      They’re being upgraded for an extra 20kW. Our reports is exhaust valves are new material, not larger, and exhaust valves and pistons are not a weak point at 500hp anyway
      Valve spring upgrade for extra 2psi isnt necessarily going to handle the 35+psi we throw either, so probably still need upgrading
