More then likely because they needed a lot of freight cargo mail on board or they needed the plane in Newark which could show why it was changed.

Before Covid they were operated by internationally configured 200s that had come into ORD from Asia and early morning Europe flights and would depart out of EWR on evening flights to Europe and South America
