Had an 86 500cr. Bought it from a guy with a broken wrist, ankle and 3 ribs. His crashed on it the week before. He needed money for his medical Bill's and because his wife said no more cr500. I had it for 2 years. A monster. Rode it in the black rock desert ( where they hold burning man). It would scream across the playa. I'd been racing and riding 20 years and it was they only bike that caused the hair to stand up on my neck at times. I was getting a little older and sold it. At times it was a bitch to start and my right foot would go numb on those days. Glad I had the opportunity to have owned it.

I added an FMF nickel pipe, bored, ported/polished head, decked head, Ohlins shock, it was LETHAL Honda did not joke around with the 1st water cooled 500. I watched a guy break his ankle starting one. It wasn't his bike, was a know-it-all ego moto-dude, you guys know the type. He wanted to ride it, the bike was a friend of mine, Rich Mythen, a Pro in Nor-Cal, we all told the dumb-ass to NOT to try and start it with is regular shoes on... he didn't listen... never set TDC and just kicked it... his timing could not have been worse... it recoiled up and snapped is fucking ankle... LOL... OMG we laughed.
