  • Today we use a laser cutter to engrave anodized aluminum blanks to create metal business cards and other awesome projects! In this video we also create a QR code that automatically connects anyone who scans it to your wifi network. This tutorial will work with many types of laser engravers and laser cutters from 5w diode laser kits to K40 Co2 lasers.

...whelp, I may need one of these lol
Imagine how cool it would be to show up to a job interview and a qr code to your resume and other information on an aluminum card.

Why claim that it is "anodized" if it isn't ?

Whether they're anodized or painted, the process will be roughly the same!

@@CarbonCoil Hi and thanks for this video! I'm new to laser engraving and I'm not sure if etching a painted aluminum card is the same as etching an anodised one. In the first case the engraver has just to vaporise what I suppose might be a layer of acrylic paint while, in the latter case it has to vaporise the anodised aluminum layer which, as thin as it might be, is still made of aluminum and this makes me think that the engraver might not have enough power to "burn" it.

Hi @@kettleblaze4060, there are lots of other videos on RUclips also showcasing diode lasers engraving anodized aluminum. For example this video: ruclips.net/video/k1hj-RbDlLM/видео.html where 10w diode laser is used at 9 minutes to engrave an anodized aluminum part

Where did you get the blanks?

I bought them on Amazon, they can be found by searching “Anodized Aluminum blanks” or something similar

Putting your network and password to a free online app seems pretty worrisome.

You're absolutely right to never take random websites on the internet at face value! However, in this case, this application generates the QR code locally and therefore doesn't send data from the input fields over the internet. If you'd like to access and read the documentation yourself, it's available on GitHub at the following link: github.com/zxing/zxing
Alternatively, because this is an open source project, you can also download and run the zxing project on your own machine. However, because most of my viewers don't have the technical expertise to do this, I provide the QiFi project website instead.
