I just started teaching myself Greek a few days ago with Duelingo. We have family over there who luckily can speak and write in English but we would be able to communicate on a much deeper level if I was able to learn the language. It’s so overwhelming. If there’s anyone here who has succeeded in learning it, do you have any tips on what helped you?
@@MountainGardenGirl definitely. Learning it has been on the back burner for awhile due to a new job taking up all my time but I can read and write it almost as quickly as I can English. Speaking it in any way that sounds natural is still impossible, but I could definitely get by with the basics if I were to visit Greece. Having exposure to the spoken language would be a huge help, I just never had that luxury. As far as reading and writing, repetition is really all it takes and eventually it’ll stick.
Hallo James! I have only just started learning Greek after a wonderful holiday in Greece. I haven't even started with Duolingo yet. I am only halfway through the alphavito. But I have a lot of experience learning several other european languages, plus I am an English teacher, so here is a tip I give to all my students: LISTENING! Listening to naturally spoken Greek (or any other language for that matter) is the closest thing to learning your mother tongue as a baby. Of course, when you are an absolute beginner it's frustrating to listen to people talking and you don't understand a single word. But it's important to keep these two things in mind: baby steps and REPETITION. This channel has loads of materials, for beginners as well, so you can choose one of those playlists and watch several videos carefully once or twice using captions so that you can get the gist, and after that you just keep listening to them in the background as often as you can (while driving a car, jogging, etc.). When you get bored with them, you move on to the next set of videos/audio recordings. Over time, gradually, patterns will begin to emerge, you will start recognizing words, phrases, and after a while you will just be able to say the right thing at the right time, without even knowing how you knew it. it was your subconscious mind doing the trick and acquiring the language. Of course, it wil work much better if you devote regular time slots for learning new words, some basic grammar at least, and of course Duolingo is just great for practising, as well. Hope this helps. Lots of luck learning Greek. Let me know how it works. P.S. Another great resource is the channel "Easy Greek", where you can listen to real spoken Greek and it's a lot of fun as well.
Focus on what words sound like and then correct them grammatically later and by looking them up and download the language on your phone's keyboard, too?

Wow. This is easy. I always wanted to learn Greek. I worked with Greeks and I always wanted to now what were they saying. They were teaching to the guys bad words in Greek only.
It is not a proper Greek word. It was actually taken from Italian. The proper word for "but" is "αλλά", and "μα" is used in a sort of 'complaining" way. Eg: "But why did you eat all the fries?!". Modern Greek has many borrowed words from different languages, like Turkish, French, Italian, and even Spanish!

Σ'αγαπώ. Είσαι τόσο όμορφος.
Thank you! That was really helpful. I'll learn the rest of the alphabets on the website.
Hi, is there another accompanying video to this? Really enjoyed it!
The included lessons were good, but the title is deceptive. This 40 minute video only includes 16 of the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet. I suppose it is because the creators want to sell their lessons, but they shouldn't do it with false advertising.
Well they say the lessons are free so it's not really selling. But yeah imma verify if it really is free or still false advertising
Bluebiscus They have a free version, but you don’t have access to that much. The paid version is definitely worth it though.
They want the money
@@Hx_jamie yeah, shame on them for wanting to get paid to teach a skill that other people want to learn. What a bunch of monsters. Teachers should work for free.
@@jamesbrincefield9879 yeah
This is just amazing..Marcus Lemonis led me here....I'm just blown away by how comprehensible this is...good work..this is just wow
Great work, thank you! Unfortunately, I can’t find the second/last part with the remaining 1/3 of the alphabet. Does somebody have a link?
so clear...thank you...efkharisto poli
Really wanted to like this......but the last 8 letters are missing! Otherwise, though, great job. =)
It's been 4 years since you made this video and I found it TODAY! ❤️ I was so exited to find finally a proper greek lesson 👍 BUT: WHERE IS THE REST?? 😳 How and where does it go on? 🙏🙏
Hi , would like to know if this video teaches detailed way the prnounciation of Each letter , for instance in every place in the word , beginning of a sentences, etc. (Same regarding the other video of the double consonants)
She can explain better than my teacher,i understand everything here clearly..❤
I love that these lessons are in priority order and not alphabetical order. I was previously only getting good at alpha, beta, gamma, delta, lol! I am trying to find printable passages in Greek to find letters as she suggests, but I am having trouble. Does anyone have any links that would help me?
Very awesome teacher!
Very helpful I must say. We'll be speaking Greek in NO time!
Wow. This is easy. I always wanted to learn Greek. I worked with Greeks and I always wanted to now what were they saying. They were teaching to the guys bad words in Greek only.
Thanks for your great explanations) Well done!
I love it, she is so sweet and spontaneous, encourages you to learn
thank you for making this ^^ im actually greek but im learning it!
Wow very good lesson. You teach this very easy and very clear. Thank you very much
Wowwww “Ma” is a way to say but in Italian too!
In Portuguese is "mas". So we're all related
I'm currently studying Italian, so that caught me off guard, I was like "Hey!! It's the same!!"
@@juanchihum so i guess you know how to speak Greek or anyone from these counties that’s awesome !!!
greek, who did not get to meet her papou or yiayia so learning for the first time. thank you!!
