Thanks for these explanations about ARA system that i didn’t know anything about. Thought my bike or its Fob key were already broken down as this morning was the 2nd day of ownership 😅. 👍 Cheers / Fred
HAHA nice one mate. Glad to hear the vid helped you out! Yeah there is a lot of fun stuff on this new 1290. Enjoy the new bike.. Its a beauty! :) Cheers Ric
Got bike yesterday, should be with me a week ago, but it was waiting for first recall (alloy plug in fuel line instead of plastic one). I wish that I saw that video before yesterday...No instructions, nor service book came with this bike, so no chance to learn about basics. And...after fiddling with tyres and taking stickers off, I parked it up on the drive and, locked the bar and opened my beer. Half an hour later I couldn't switch my bike on and due to locked bar I couldn't put it in the garage! Took me 1 hour to realise that there's a button on this fob and how it all works. I simply don't know why there's no instructions in writing anymore? Another think I don't understand is that preload setting, why is it on 0% and would it change itself on Auto mode? Great bike, but lots of high tech without explanation. Good to have you Rick!!! Thnx.
Hello Rafal! Cheers for watching and dropping a comment! I totally feel your pain haha. yes its not to obvious and like you say there is no manual you can instantly refer to unless you download it. Congrats on the bike though. Aside from the niggle its a great machine and no doubt given the weather you will be racking the miles up in no time. I am interested to hear about the recall though. I have heard about some carbon filter recall (I haven't looked into this myself so do not know anything), but to hear another recall on fuel lines???? looks like I better get my arse into gear and phone up KTM see what the score is about any recalls!!. As for your pre load setting. I believe the default setting is "standard" which is a lot firmer than 0% !!!! that must feel like sitting on a boat in a storm lol... Maybe go through setting and then into Preload and scroll across with the right arrow button until you see Standard... I am not going into all the settings on here but as a quick win . I would definitely set it to Standard to begin with. I would have to literally choose 0% preload if I wished to have that. So not sure why your brand new bike is setup with 0% preload for you to ride away on ??!!!! As a basic setup to take away the bike I would expect the bike to have Ride Mode "Street", Suspension Mode "Auto" and Preload "Standard" And thanks for the positive feedback! much appreciated! Thanks Ric
@@RicardoYeep Hi Rick , I do apologise for not replaying to your message, but I’ve injured my back and didn’t follow RUclips for that time. I’ve seen your video about that recall already, not big deal. Taking this opportunity, I’d like to ask how the hell you’re activating hill start when riding SAS? It’s switched on in settings, but not working at all when I want it to work. But when I want to roll back from the hill to turn around then bloody thing is activating! Lol. I think they’ve got this one wrong, so does HD PanAm. The only one working well, I know, is Beemer Gelande Strasse!
@@rafaell1774 Hiya mate no need to explain! Hope your back is better !! As for the hill hold it’s not something I am notice to be honest. I’ll pay more attention next time I’m out. But my understanding is that hill hold only works when your in first hear and and only holds the bike for few seconds once you start to let the clutch out and your in gear. Only to assist you to pull away without rolling back. If you are just holding the clutch in and in gear you should still roll. Also if you are in neutral you will still roll. Literally hill hold holds you at the pivotal moment you try to execute movement from stand still on an incline. Any other time it rolls.. I’m sure I read that in the manual but will put it to test next ride out . Hope that helps (maybe not lol) Cheers Ric
My ARA seemed to have packed up on my Scotland trip - I had to disable it to start the bike by using the emergency key contact point. I did think that maybe the batter in the fob had died (it hadn't) but I did have a go at removing the battery - give it a go - once you have popped the back of the key case off you are supposedly able to simply turn the cover with a coin - nothing I did would release the battery cover, all I have managed to do is chew up the slot in the round cover!
Ah mate thats a pia. Glad you managed to get by and carry on! I wonder if there some glue/seal that has made the fit extra difficult to remove the cover. I havent opened mine yet. I am guessing your taking the bike back to be checke out?

Switched my one off. Couldn’t start bike good few times on Scotland trip and after reading instructions, I’ve touched signal antenna with fob and bike started. As soon as I’ve switched it off in settings, problem disappeared.
Hiya Darko.. Sorry for the late reply. The spare token (plastic disc). Will start the bike regardless of whether ARA is on or not. SO no worry there if you have it activated but dont have the main FOB. All the best Ric
I’ve just turned this on and I can still start the bike normally even if it’s been in the garage all night. Should this stop the ignition from turning on without the button push on the remote?
Hello mate thanks for watching. And appreciate time for comment! As you saw in my video hopefully "YES" with the ARA mode activated (On) your bike should not even light up the screen at all until you press the remote fob button. By pressing the fob it should then allow the bikes Screen and the bike itself to "power up" ready for ignition. If you have ARA mode active and you have not been anywhere near the bike for a set time (I cant remeber now as did that video last year). The bike should not be able to power up until pressing the fob. SO yes you are right in what you believe. Cheers Ric
