Thanks Ricardo, nice info. I have the Akropovic and without the db killers it has that rolling thunder sound 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. When You drive in France, Holland and Belgium; so far no problem but for Germany and Luxembourg db killers are a must
Hi Hedon! Thanks mate great to hear from you. And yes I agree with adding the DB killers for Germany and Lux (even Switz)... I normally have a yearly trip through all these countries and make sure I add the db killers before I leave... :)
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the new 3rd generation 1290 Super Adventure S and your mods. It sounds to me like folks who don't care about sound can save their money on a brand new silencer to replace the stock can (unless they just have to have that extra 5 hp). But, once warranty is done, a fuel programmer might be a useful mod to correct fuel/air mixture at different points in the RPM range (and to smooth out throttle response)? Or that Hilltop flash - I don't understand how that works without voiding warranty....
Hiya Hung! Thanks for the message and no problem. Always great to share and if any of it is useful thats a bonus haha. I agree its basiclly all sound. The HP is immaterial. Also looks I think are much better but that is subjective. I agree the air/fuel mix could be improved with a map and even gain a few horses so I was told at the dyno. But at the moment I dont know how this can be done without affecting the warranty but apparently there is a way. I will be looking into how this is done at some point. One of the guys on here knows a tuning specialist that can do this. Thanks Ric
Very interessting video Ric, as the technician says normally peak power increases without db killers and mid power is better with them on, but nowadays with euro5, huge catalyzers and so on it can be completely different as you shown. Cheers
Cheers Edu! Pleased you found it interesting and informative. It was not just a sill play thing but there is valid information to be gained from this in addition to being a bit of light entertainment to some. 👍 Cheers Ric
Thanks so much for for this Ricardo. Will a power commander void your warranty? Seeing it’s a piggy back system . I was talking to ktm and they said once you cut the loom in any way your warranty is void also. What’s your thoughts 💭
Hiya Jason thanks 🙏 appreciate the feedback and pleased you found it informative! As with what you mentioned you are spot on. I was considering too until someone here actually stated the Bike system will log any third party module connected to it and will most certainly void your warranty. I appreciated the warning and heads up and so won’t be going down this route until my warranty has expired 👍 but sounds like you already had this feeling !

Hi Nathan. I have just contacted my guy at the Dyno (just now) and checked with him the graphs. As I read it it is about 10k/10.4krpm. However I wanted to confirm this with him. His reply is below. Hope this is ball park what you expected. Cheers Ric! "it looks like it’s around that rpm (10k/10.40rpm), however that is not taken from the bike itself, it’s calculated by the Dyno using its database of bike spec, including tyre size, sprockets and gear ratios. It’s normally surprisingly accurate, and used to save time tapping into the bikes tacho signal, but if I see any major error compared to tacho etc I can trim it to get it right. So ultimately…. Yes that’s about right 😉"

Grazie a te.
If you're planning on doing any long journeys or tours would strongly recommend not deleting the cat. I've had it done on my MT-10SP and whilst it sounds amazing when you wind it up, sitting at any constant speed as you would on a long trip makes your ears bleed after about 30 minutes.... Hence why I've just bought a new KTM 1290SAS for long distance (the cat will be staying on that bike!! Lol)
Hiya Nic! HAHA I hear you mate.. (no pun intended) Probabaly thanks to still having the cat... But yes I agree as Jim the Dyno guy said it would be much louder. (not really what I want to be honest)
Hello Ric, Real fun to see your results of the Dynotest. I wonder about the graphs on Air/fuel, What does they say about the mixture, I am not use to read that kind of stuff. I notice that he says that it is "so rich" but later he says "it is so lean". Can you explain the graphs for me and your discussion about how the fuel/air situation are with stock/akra(similar ?)and what a new map could do ? On the power graphs, is it the torque graphs we see under the hp-graphs ? Staffan
Hello Staffan! Great to hear you found them fun and entertaining. And also informative. I am probably not the best person to explain in depth these graphs as I went purely for a power run result. Of which the result is very clearly displayed. However my understanding and also this was reinforced by how Jim at the Dyno explained it to me. Is that A) between all three scenarios the HP difference is minimal at most approx 5hp. This one was easy to read and understand on the graph too. And yes below the Hp is torque curves. B) the air/fuel graphs. Jim basically was saying that up to around 5,750/6,000 Rpm the bike operates within a closed loop system. Meaning that it’s the sensors that monitor the bike and control the air fuel mix against a set of pre set parameters. These being quite lean within this rev range. Most definitely as a result of trying to conform to Euro5 regulations and Emissions regs. However above and beyond 5,750/6,000 rpm upwards it comes out of the closed loop system and then drops into quite a rich air/fuel mixture. But did not explain why. But he did say regardless of the Standard exhaust/Akra with or without DB killers it didn’t make much of a difference in the air/fuel mix and was approximately same ball park. (Rich when falling out the closed loop circuit)… as a result of this he explained there is so much he could optimise and make gains from carrying out a complete map for the bike. By using either a power commander module or Rapid bike Module to smooth out the fuelling across the different parts of the Rev range. Ie get rid of the lean mix within the closed loop range and get rid of the Rich within the non closed loop Rev range. Also he added between the two (power commander and Rapid Bike) he would recommend Rapid Bike as it is self learning just the same as the stock set up as it still uses the O2 sensor within the exhaust system. There by once he’s had achieved the right set of parameters for the bikes engine it won’t matter if I changed from an Akra to an arrow later. The Rapid Bike system would self adjust and make necessary changes to ensure the bike still runs per the set parameters that were set. But yes in short even the stock bike with the stock can runs lean under 6k and then drops into Rich above this Rev range Cheers Ric
@@RicardoYeepRic, I say wow....that explanation filled all the gaps I wondered about. I am satisfied that it doesn´t matter if I run the stock or the Akra with or without the db-killers they all run in the same closed loop and it is quite lean to fix the euro5 demands and Ktm is aware of this. It also proves that you(and my mechanic) were right about running without the db-killers, it is no problem, the settings will cope with the differences. And yes, I can understand what Jim tried to say, with a new mapping he can set the air/fuel mixture perfect at every given rev which will increase power as well as smooth performance. Thank you once again, Ric, and yes, I agree with you that I am totally satisfied with the engine as it is. It is a masterpiece of power and at the same time smoothness./Staffan

Ah yes ... seems like yesterday that I did a short test ride on a Super Adventure. The German dealer asked, very politely, if I had ever ridden something similar. (I showed up on my BMW R1100S with clip-ons.) I told him that I guess I had ridden a GS some time or other, and off I went, in light rain. Clear of the town I gassed this thing up about the same as I would have my 98-hp BMW. The very next thought I had was NOT that the Super Adventure really needs more power. All it did was to wheelie in third gear with the throttle not even open full. I don't know if you guys in Blighty have been monitoring events across the Channel so let me point out that something becoming more and more common here is attention to bike noise. (Austria now bans bikes with more than 95 dBA, including one KTM model made in Austria.) The German cops come equipped with a dB meter and a measuring stick, to do roadside checks of the stationary exhaust note at a specified rpm (89 dBA at 4,500 rpm for the latest, stock KTM Super Adventure 1290 S). At 96 dBA and above, your bike stays parked; leaves on a trailer or in a van; or gets refitted with the stock muffler: your choice. If you get caught with the dB-eater removed you are out of luck, not just grounded but perhaps getting a ticket for running an illegal modification. As if that were not enough, some German cities are now equipping with a sort of camera system like a speed radar, but one that snaps your picture if your exhaust is too loud. I assume that there will be some sort of agreement with the UK so that a fine will be levied on you back home if you fall into this latest trap. I think I can make do for now with the power my new, stock Super Adventure has. (It sure makes a change from a BMW R1100S.) For now the extra money will go for training sessions instead of for an Akrapovic.
Hello Charles, thanks for the comment and I completely agree, These days regulations are getting stricter all the time. In fact I run with all the db killers now. Or at the very minimum I always keep at least one still in the exhaust. :) I have heard all the stories you have explained and is not worth ruin your holiday over a db killer! Cheers Ric

Hey Cafgas cheers pal on the comment! And yeah for real I was suprised to how the Baffles in had more peak power. However Mid Range is king and more useful.. (not that I would use peak power often anyway). Even Jim at the Dyno said the difference is so small keep the baffles out as the sound is awesome lol. yeah will undergo some mad changes once I am out of warranty. The bike is too new to taje such a gamble in voiding it.. so until then :)

Hey there mate thanks and all good to hear it’s gone down well. Was fun and informative. Waited long enough. Not sure about being the first but if I am then wow lol. I just wanted it to be more a shared experience than a short 1 minute clip of a bike being thrashed . Hope it wasn’t too boring at points .👍
Ah, at last, thanks for this. Would love a pic of the graph. Yes, what todo? My tupence worth is don't go for top end as you can't use it, but mid-range. Now the obvious caveat, your Warranty is void once you jog down this path and as the KTM is Canbus it will flag any modules plugged in. I did go down this route 3 years back, with my new Suzuki at a well known tuning firm in Hinckley, they could modify the controller directly such that Suzuki wouldn't be able to tell.
Hi there mate. Yes long awaited and glad you liked it. i did trim it down from over an hour just enough hopefully for it to still be entertaining but not too boring and samey... Tried to keep it a "shared experience" rather than 3 one minute clips of a bike being thrashed lol PLUS having his short overview at the end..... Yup don't think I will venture down that path (third party modules) until 2 years time when warranty is up anyway but definitely food for thought though :) I will look for the graph! Cheers Ric
Haha not just mate! After warranty period is up maybe lol. I’m not messing or plugging any third part module into this thing. It’s too soon and if any thing happens I don’t want KTM to wipe their hands free of me ☝️
@@brucecutts8841 Hiya just be careful and look into it before you start plugging in Rapid Bike or Power commander modules in in order to custom map it. Someone has said on here the system on the bike will logg when a third part module has been connected (And will void your warranty) - Hence I am not touching mine until the warranty period is over. The bike is too new and lots to go wrong before the two year period is up.. last thing you need is them having a golden ticket to wipe their hands of you.!

I would like to see what it is with other brand mufflers. They never publish what the gained horsepower is with their mufflers.
Hiya Carlos! Yeah I would be interested too but I’m not buying them all to test haha 😆👍
Thanks
Ric
Very interessting video Ric, as the technician says normally peak power increases without db killers and mid power is better with them on, but nowadays with euro5, huge catalyzers and so on it can be completely different as you shown. Cheers
Cheers Edu! Pleased you found it interesting and informative. It was not just a sill play thing but there is valid information to be gained from this in addition to being a bit of light entertainment to some. 👍
Cheers
Ric
Rick - What hand guards are you running on the 1290?
Hiya Quentin. I run with BarkBusters 👍 frames combined with their vps guards and skid plates 👍
@@RicardoYeep so frustrating and tempting isn’t it. Still something to look forward to tho. There’s enough power for now and there will be more options in the future. Great to hear there’s “big gain” possibilities. I’m dying I unleash the twin thump tho. Thanks for the reply. I look forward to your next video 👍
For real mate ! Yup that got me too when he said there is so much more gains lol… but will now have to wait. It’s pretty dam powerful enough to be fair 😂
And again cheers for watching ! I know people time is precious so anyone giving the time is appreciated 👍
Ride safe
Ric
You can go without the kat if you do the akra mapping its cheaper then a power commander.
And much more power then you have now.
Hiya Johan! Thanks for this info! Right now the power is quite enough! :)
can you confirm the actual RPM at which the rev limiter kicks in? thanks
Yes that’s about right 😉"
@@RicardoYeep Thanks, super appreciate it. I was watching a dyno vid by Rottweiler Performance on a new 2022 1290SAR that just arrived state-side, and it appeared they were tapping the rev limit very early/easily, so i was getting real curious... about 10 sounds good... appreciate it, really enjoying your series of vids.
Anytime mate! and thanks again for sticking around! Cheers!
hi! How much torque (nm) have you with Akra?
Hello Juan. Thank you very good question! Here they are!
13.4 Kgm = 131.4 Nm (96.9 ft/lb)
13.5 Kgm = 132.4 Nm (97.6 ft/lb)
13.6 Kgm = 133.4 Nm (98.4 ft/lb)
Thanks

Grazie a te.
Saluti
Ric

I would lobe to see the dyno sheets
Hello my friend they are all there too see already on the community section (not video section) let me know when you found them! Cheers Ric 👍
@@RicardoYeep Sweet 😁
But yes in short even the stock bike with the stock can runs lean under 6k and then drops into Rich above this Rev range
Cheers
Ric
Nice video, but it'd be a huge improvement to show the plots... Even if you just pan the camera over it for a few seconds.
Hello mate sorry for the late reply. All the graphs are in the community tab. I uploaded photos there back in the day. As this was 2 years ago. There are only a few uploads in the community sections so you should find it no problem :)
All the best

@@RicardoYeep no worries. Thanks!

Hi Rick, what's up? Long time no see, shame. Fancy doing Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and some camping on long may weekend? We're going on 28th April and coming back 2nd May. Camping for free on friends fields, German beer and great food. Please let me know what you think. So far three of us going. Nice long weekend. And...put some new videos, would ya?! ;)
Hey there Rafal! Great to hear from you mate.. Hope your doing good and the bike still giving joy. Unfortunately life is still getting in the way of YT for the time being. New job (full time hours) which I am loving. But also the hassle and time consuming efforts of refreshing a property to sell.. And other family issues at present. I hope I can soon get back on track with my personal "fun" at some point and be back on YT. I definitely will but not just yet unfortunately.
Thank you to for the kind invite on the the road trip! Sounds like something I would love. I did that very same combination back a few years back. But given what I said above. My fun this year will most likely be local day rides out for now on my days off if I can fit one in :(
Anyway great hearing from you.. the positive vibes deffo cheered me up! Thanks :)

finally !! awesome results , to bad we wont know what the different ride modusses will do powerwise ^^ but like u said , no need to torture the beast to much !
awesome vid again ! keep em coming and safe miles !
Hey there Andy! Cheers mate and thanks for the feedback! Glad it was a little entertaining. Like I said it’s all about a bit of fun Is all 😆👍
I'm surprised to hear that it's going excessively rich. I wonder why the factory would want to do that. What's the name of the remapper he suggested? It's a little hard to hear. Rocket Bike?
Also I'd like to see the dyno charts. I wonder how he corrected the RW HP to get it at the crank.
Hiya Eric as CafGas said it’s Rapid bike. Also all the graphs are posted in the community section on this channel. I’ve just uploaded them. 👍
Thanks for watching too and dropping a comment!
Cheers Ric
Interesting. I thought the Akro is just for looks. Looks like it does make a difference. I though it was just for looks. If I get bored with mine maybe I'll think about an upgrade.
Great video - maybe a trip to Hilltop beckons on the back of this
Cheers mate! Great to hear you liked the vid!. Yeah I need to start getting out on it now and without the 70 year old mum on the back lol... (next vid lol... her input on the heated ergo pillion seat)!! Get my 50/50 tyres tomorrow all being well!
sub'd. Great work and video here! Thanks Ricardo. Please do the full map pulls!
Hello mate thanks for watching and comment. The full map diagrams are already in the community section on my channel. You’ll just need to scroll through. Should be easy to find as not many posts in the community tab/section 👍👍👍
Ah yes ... seems like yesterday that I did a short test ride on a Super Adventure.
(Austria now bans bikes with more than 95 dBA, including one KTM model made in Austria.)
The German cops come equipped with a dB meter and a measuring stick, to do roadside checks of the stationary exhaust note at a specified rpm (89 dBA at 4,500 rpm for the latest, stock KTM Super Adventure 1290 S).
I have heard all the stories you have explained and is not worth ruin your holiday over a db killer!
Cheers
Ric
Could I suggest one thing, your intro the rev at the start scares the bejesus out of me every single time I listen on the daily commute lol, I know its coming but still gets me every time, could you turn it down at all, love the channel and it's making me put down a deposit for a 21 model when I get back from France in a few weeks. Thanks, Tom
Hiya Tom haha! Sorry mate but that tickled me 😂😂. The anticipation and knowing it’s coming soon… that intro was surprise gift off a subscriber now friend in Aus. I just had to add it to the start of my vids 😂
Sorry if it makes you jump ! Anyway wow and congrats on deciding to get the KTM!! That’s great news. Hope you get it without too much delay. 🙏
Hey mate, was really surprised there was more top end poke with the baffle in! Eagerly await your videos every week. Wonder what an upgrade to a free flow air filter will do? Awesome job, REAL reviews & comments! Ride safe.
The bike is too new to taje such a gamble in voiding it.. so until then :)
get the wings exhaust, like i did, better fuel economy, amazing sound db killer in or out, and the bikes flies 😁
Awesome video 👍🏻
Thanks Johan! Appreciate the feedback mate! Glad you enjoyed it.

Great vidéo Ric ! You Know you are the first guy in the world to post a dyno video for the 2021 super adventure ?? Well done ric ! I'm surprised about the difference between stock and acra. I thought it was only concerning sound ! Interested too by the pics
@@RicardoYeep definitely the first. Fair play Rick 🤟😎
Yup don't think I will venture down that path (third party modules) until 2 years time when warranty is up anyway but definitely food for thought though :)
I will look for the graph!

I'd love to see the dyno charts too.
Hiya Eric they are all uploaded into the community section on this channel. I have just done this for you guys 👍

I can sense a remapping ahead???? Got to be done🤣 👍🏻
Haha not just mate! After warranty period is up maybe lol. I’m not messing or plugging any third part module into this thing. It’s too soon and if any thing happens I don’t want KTM to wipe their hands free of me ☝️
@@RicardoYeep i think it's fast enough anyway, better off spending the money elsewhere 👍🏻
I'm going to head to Hilltop with mine - he has a map already developed and tested I hear
@@richardwitherstone7396 yeah for the time being anyway :)
Decat..... you know it makes sense
Hahah I will probably but not just yet! I’ll get some miles and year or two under the belt first ☝️
