Wizek & Chris: Would you muppets please stop this petty bickering and just enjoy the wonderful music he left us. The guy had problems, but I don't think any of us have the right to judge him.
I don't often comment, but when I do, it's definitely to say that Justin is awesome. I'm learning so much more from you than any other guitar videos out there
This and Polly are the first songs ive learned on guitar :D I just got my first electric guitar 2 days ago and im super excited :D my fingers hurt alot though :(
LLCooLM595 happens to everyone you just have to play through it! If you have an acoustic that will give you thick calluses and electric will be a piece of cake!
Thank you! I've been trying to get this on my own for a while now, but something was missing. You showed me what it was though! Definitely subscribing!!!
Could you do a lesson for Poisoned Water by Mudhoney please? I've looked EVERYWHERE online and can't even find a tab and I'm not good ar picking out songs but I REALLY wanna learn it.
Hi Justin, amazing lesson as always. I have some difficulties going from the little riff (6th string 4th fret 1st fret 4th fret 5th string open) to the B flat power chord on the 6th string. There was another tutorial video whererin the riff was played different; 6th string 4th fret open 4th fret 5th fret. For me it's easier going to the B flat on the 6th after this but I'm wondering if this is still "correct".
i'm intermediate guitar player and i'm not strongly familiar with power chords but this Kurt Cobain song have always power chord which is good for me. Thank You Kurt! Thank you Justin!!!!!!!
Pedal wise Kurt used a chorus and drive. SmallClone and a DS-1 and then later a DS-2 and an echoflanger. He used weird amps so it would be hard to get that down, play with your eq for that. Set your clean to match the verse and the DS will do the rest.
Thanks for all the great lessons, Justin! Sorry for being a nerd and off-subject, but what pickups you got in that pretty stratocaster? I saw another video where you had a cool rails in the bridge, but those don't look like that. Have a great day!
I am a bad guitarist, but I have found that a loose harmonic bar chord (a D bar (5th fret) lifted off so the 5/7 fret harmonics ring out instead of the natural notes) to be a Kurt signature thing.. in some versions of this song when the distortion is cranked right up I have seen him do this between the 1st/2nd chords of the verse quite often. When he forgot stuff he would replace who verses with this kind of harmonic bar on either frets 5/7/12 while letting the Bass do the work.
Cool song. I'm not into the whole "playing it the RIGHT way" thing, though. As you said, Kurt probably played it several different ways. So whether you play an A5 chord with the root on the 6th or 5th string doesn't really matter, imho. Any cover, even with your own twist on it (especially with your own twist on it I should say) is always a nice tribute to a song or band you like. Rock on and keep those great vids coming, Justin ;)
i like people who spoke ,and expressed what i felt,i don't know if they committed suicide or died ,all i know is that i have utmost respect for them, and about modern music ,i think there is lot of good music out there, people are so busy remenicing about past ,they are overlooking the good music that comes out of "computer",i mean not all the artists but yea i find a lot of good artists too,not necessarily writing dark songs ,but fun and catchy good songs,..i have no problems with any pop artist
Hey Justin! I think the riff is played by the bassist, Krist. Kurt was a very simplistic guitarist, so not a ton of riffs for the most part. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in.
Thanks Justin. I've been working on this one myself after watching the Live At Redding DVD. He plays it on a strat there. Which may be why you can't get your Jag to sound like his :)
The second version of that first riff sounds "right" to me. The thinner strings have a different , sharper sound that seems to work better with the song.
i like how there's all these people saying they learned this super quickly but i have a guitar and i probly couldn't play Mary Had a Little Lamb if i practiced for an hour
If you like Nirvana, why not include Polly as a beginner song? It sounds good, it's held in high regard by many musicians and It's easy to sing along to. It's one of the first songs I learned. Just a suggestion and I find your Videos really helpful.
Thank you Kurt Cobain for Nirvana and Nevermind! That album was just the kick in the overly tight pants the music industry needed at that time. We would all still be rocking horrible spandex and 10-foot teased out hair and pointy leopard-print guitars and spending 5 years trying to set up the Floyd Rose on it if it wasn't for Nevermind! Not that there's anything wrong with that...and I still love me some old Motley Crue...but still!!! And even the metal music got better after Nevermind!
If music is technicity... Then Yeah Kurt wasn't a technician, if music is find the correct notes to make your heart vibes and go well with the lyrics... then he was a genius... You don't need to be Paul Gilbert to make music that will stay in history...
He wrote great songs, everyone knew he was not that great of a guitarist, but there is no doubting his song writing skills and anyway to make fun of someones suicide is downright twisted i don't care what anyone says.
not the way that was played by cobain, ever. tho a nice arrangment, not how it was actually played. if you watch him live you can see how he plays it. however, your right. so many diff ways im seeing people teach this song when its actually rather easy. i dont yderstand why i havent seen an actually 100% rightvideo on t his song yet.
im sorry, but what live video were you watching? because i just watched several videos of nirvana performing this song live and in every single one kurt is playing exactly what justin is teaching here in this video.
Wizek & Chris: Would you muppets please stop this petty bickering and just enjoy the wonderful music he left us. The guy had problems, but I don't think any of us have the right to judge him.
What happened here?
@@Sportingalagrieska they died?????
Now this is some rock n roll !! When music was legit 🤘
I don't often comment, but when I do, it's definitely to say that Justin is awesome. I'm learning so much more from you than any other guitar videos out there

I'm 6 months in on electric and 9 on acoustic. Love it. Sometimes my fingers bother me but only on the difficult songs.
You certainly put that good energy and vibe out Justin; it's much appreciated as always dude!
Thanks very much, really useful as always. I tend to use the chords lower down the next as easier when you are singing perhaps.
Thank you! I've been trying to get this on my own for a while now, but something was missing. You showed me what it was though! Definitely subscribing!!!

yay i learned something awesome from a great teacher CHEERS.
Thank you... you are the first guitar teacher i understand!!!
i'm intermediate guitar player and i'm not strongly familiar with power chords but this Kurt Cobain song have always power chord which is good for me. Thank You Kurt! Thank you Justin!!!!!!!
Superb lesson. Excellent advice. As usual, Justin. Thank you!
Wish you still included the solo tho.
u have a big talent in teaching. Congratulations
nice one justin, cant wait for the songbook
As always Justin, great lesson!!!
that chorus though 6:56. if I ever cover that song that's the lyrics i'm gonna be singing =)))
Pedal wise Kurt used a chorus and drive. SmallClone and a DS-1 and then later a DS-2 and an echoflanger. He used weird amps so it would be hard to get that down, play with your eq for that. Set your clean to match the verse and the DS will do the rest.
Awesome, been waiting for some Nirvana lessons for so long!
Thanks for all the great lessons, Justin! Sorry for being a nerd and off-subject, but what pickups you got in that pretty stratocaster? I saw another video where you had a cool rails in the bridge, but those don't look like that. Have a great day!

Awesome song and very easy to play. Thank you sir.
good job Justin!!
Hey Justin, what key is the solo pulled out of? Bb?
Great lesson Justin. Looking forward to this and other awesome tunes turning up in the Rock songbook.
I got an idea, on one of the fridays, if you could, play hammer of the north by Grand Magus. A tough shot, though I bet, we'd love to learn it.
Great teaching, thanks!!
Nirvana, amazing. So many haters jealous they had more success in 4 years than pretty much any of the so called technical guitar players.
Good job dave man

Justin-
Thanks for posting this and all of your posts, they're helpful
and well done.!
(i subscribed a few months back...)
Like this tutorial a lot!
What distortion u use for this video sir?
Thanks! Great lesson.
Your a splended old chap

Finally a really good song :) Thanks! How's the hand?
thanks great lesson
thank you! nice tutor
Hey Justin! I think the riff is played by the bassist, Krist. Kurt was a very simplistic guitarist, so not a ton of riffs for the most part. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in.
Thanks :)
You can't do too many Nirvana songs for me!
Thanks Justin. I've been working on this one myself after watching the Live At Redding DVD. He plays it on a strat there. Which may be why you can't get your Jag to sound like his :)
"Open strings would be pretty rancid"
I fuckin love thst word.
good sounds cheers
wait, what are the chords to the first riff?
Justin, where do you get these cool T-shirts?:)
Thanks for the lesson (love their songs)!
I noticed the rock songbook had no guns n roses in it? Whats up with that?
The second version of that first riff sounds "right" to me. The thinner strings have a different , sharper sound that seems to work better with the song.
So is this song a misprint in the song book for chorus it says, Bb5 G5: C5 Eb....not Eb5.
He used a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, EH small clone pedal, and clean channel on the amp.
Kurt had a custom model Jagstang which was a cross of the mustang and jaguar so it probably had the pickups of a mustang.
hey friend ... could you do a video on how to play the song for what it's worth of buffalo springfield?
What is the tune of In Bloom
ok so its standard
Thanks...
why would you use the bridge pickup for this? isn't the neck much beefier anyway?
im pretty sure kurt used the bridge pickup
LaWLF4iL well most of his guitars have a humbucker in the bridge so it is much beefier that way
***** Justin's does not.
Ohhh my gosh I really though this was Marty Swarts until he looked up at the camera! Ahaha they both dress the same with the hat and everything.
same xD
+Jane Horvath great song tho, killer guitar lesson
yeah
good video, thanks. and i too like to shoot my G
Can you do a tutorial on the guitar solo please
Big muff pi will give you almost exact sound to play nirvana songs thats what i use!
oh man now i want three colours/3 stratocasters black n' white blue n´white and red n' white XD awesome i can play it \m/
i like how there's all these people saying they learned this super quickly but i have a guitar and i probly couldn't play Mary Had a Little Lamb if i practiced for an hour
If you can take power chords easy then this song is very easy.
If you weren't playing lap drums on the intro, you are not a Nirvana fan.
Omg yes man !! I did 😂😂😂😂
lmao i was unintentionally doing it with my teeth 😂
Nah, I was trying with my guitar lolol
Okay, end of topic good sir.
Can i play it if i play guitar 1 year?sorry for bad english
Of course you can.
i've been playing for 2 n a half months n i can play this one....well, with a little practise!
Go for it my friend!
Gracias :)
Hi, Is the song in standard tuning?
Yes it is. Technically, it's a half step down if you want to match the record (Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb) but standard will sound very close
Thank you man,you ar GOD fo guitar teachers XD
I have the exact same guitar that's awesome
what does he mean when he's doing the beat count and saying "e" and "and"?
Rhythem
Akkebu 1 e an a 2 e and a 3 e an a 4 e an a.. he's cutting up the 4 beat measure into 16 parts....
can someone simplify the opening for me I'm just learning guitar
I already got it
wow what a help
Amen. Is it you J or mr Jedi master sayn that? ;)
2:18 things got confusing. What's the strum pattern?
If you like Nirvana, why not include Polly as a beginner song? It sounds good, it's held in high regard by many musicians and It's easy to sing along to. It's one of the first songs I learned. Just a suggestion and I find your Videos really helpful.
I have that same guitar!
Same
Squier Bullet?
Can you do one on foo fighter it will be our year The zombies cover
Use the boss ds1 and as for a guitar it doesn't really matter because Kurt would always buy he cheapest guitar at any pawn ship
in the beginning he would play any piece he could get his hands on towards the end it was fender mustangs and Jaguars
Thank you Kurt Cobain for Nirvana and Nevermind! That album was just the kick in the overly tight pants the music industry needed at that time. Nicely done my friend, but needs humbucker!
Can any one tell its nt plugged in
Yes it is. The color of the plugin jack kind of blends in with the cord, but it's definitely hooked up
were you a Nirvana fan during their run Justin?
What if I like the note? x3
lol that’s exactly how I played them when I was first learning
I have a gatuir the same as that one
I bet all of these guys who complained at pop songs will comments about their junkie idol with shotgun and without head. Good job justin anyway.
The fact i don't know who Paul Gilbert is makes that comment so true rungalaad.
Norm? Norm Mcdonald?
lmao yep
What I don't get about songs like this is how to find the key. How is there F, Gb, G, A, Bb, B ?
I guess they just messed about and it sounded cool so they went with it
I play power cords with my little finger
+Tom Bayley What a rebel
+Bboy Inferno Ino right
+Tom Bayley i play my power chords with my thumb ring finger and little finger, but i switch that after i get past the 9th fret
+naxnox1 the frets are more than 2 inches apart.. mate
nice burn
looks like Corry Taylor the first few seconds lol
Now im playing it very easy an im 12 years old
Great song. If you could think about doing ordinary people by John Legend sometime in future... Your student:)
nooooo i miss katty perry songs!!
Sounds like he's saying "I'm down, I'm down, I'm down" hahaha get down with it lol
Why dont you do one then?
Fuck who cares man, it still is in bloom but with different alternative chords. Doesn't have to be exact.
im sorry, but what live video were you watching? because i just watched several videos of nirvana performing this song live and in every single one kurt is playing exactly what justin is teaching here in this video.
