The Fall Guy getting approved for a $130M budget is disappointing. It’s a f*cking romantic comedy movie. They could have made this for $50M and had a hilarious smaller budget film. It had a great premise, but no need to be that big. Hollywood needs to get their heads out of their a$$.
I liked The Fall Guy but I only watched it once and will wait until it's out on digital or streaming
Funny how a film with no recognisable actors beat a film with two movie stars.
What's a movie star?
A douchestick from LA who vastly overestimates their importance.
Fuggem'.
William H Massy
@@jasonsmith530 I don't remember him being in any of the promotion. I wonder how much his wife being a felon has affected his popularity as well.
People don't go to a movie because of movie stars but if it interests them. Apes is a recognizable brand.
@@jonfreeman9682 I think Tom Cruise was the last one, and Dead Reckoning didn't make it's money back. So movie stars are officially over IMHO.
Not surprised Fall Guy failed. those of us who remember the 80s TV show immediately realized that the trailers were nothing like the show.
I saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes over the weekend and I was pretty good. Probably helps that the villain is an actor that I really really like. Also “the law is wrong” is a pretty sweet line. 🤷🏻
So you're saying it's good? I liked first 2 but the 3rd was too slow burn and preachy.
@@jonfreeman9682 I didn’t feel like this one was preachy. it’s more of an adventure movie than an action movie. It’s long, but I didn’t feel like it was spinning its wheels very much. I will say that the overarching story is similar to the skeleton as the third one though. Main character ape has to go on a journey to save his clan.
@@jonfreeman9682 I loved all three, but that was mostly Andy Serkis as Caeser keeping me interested. Serkis not having an oscar yet shows how little those awards matter. Kingdom was pretty good. I thought the story was kind of dull but I liked Proximus and Noa. The girl who is the key to everything syndrome isn't quite as bad as Star Wars, but there is an element of that.
@@BryJamie I thought apes 2 was the best. A heartfelt story of human ape friendship with an amazing choreographed showdown between Cesar and Koba. Ape 1 is a better origin story than the astronaut landing on an ape planet. Ape 3 felt like a Moses journey and I still enjoyed it but just doesn't hit the high of ape 2. Still the entire trilogy was beautiful and concluded Cesar's story perfectly so I was surprised they came out with another ape movie.
@@Bonesawisready926 I agree. Andy Serkis has done phenomenal work and i think he's done some traditional acting as well that deserves recognition.
Kingdom was pretty good. Saw it last night. I was impressed. I loved the previous trilogy. I was enjoying seeing how the world changed since the time of Caesar, and how his legacy is still sort of hanging around, and has been changed in believable ways over time.
Me to saw it last night very much enjoyed Kingdom of the planet of the Apes
Yes, it was really good idd. The story was interesting as well and as you said, the changing of ceasar's legacy was really clever. It mirrors what has happened to a lot of religions over time with ceasar's legacy being this kind of religion to the apes
It's simple why it flopped, Ryan Gosling is popular amongst women, not men. That's why he was such a great fit in the Barbie film. However, men don't see him as a strong male lead.
90% of the men who went to go see the Barbie movie went specifically for Ryan Gosling
@@Bryer_the_keeper 90% of the men were dragged to the movies by SOs
Last time he was a lead I could buy was Drive, and he hasn't been able to hit that balance in a performance since then.
@@Bonesawisready926 Blade Runner 2049
@@Bryer_the_keeperhow many people watch that movie? Didn't WB didn't get profits from that movie at all
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is Disney first hit in a long time let’s see how Alien: Romulus does!
It's easier for Alien to be a hit if the budget is 100mil or less.
Alien movies have never done well. Surprised Disney even greenlit the movie as it doesn't bring home big bucks.
*_KOTPOTA needs $400Million at the BO to break even...._*
We actually enjoyed the Fall Guy as did most of the folks in the admittedly sparse crowd.
It was a fun night out. The independent theater here has $10 tickets so we didn’t break the bank.
Would you expect the men who stare at goats to be a box office hit? What about burn after reading? My point is that movies like this and ungentlemenly warfare seem extremely pretentious. Why would I want to spend two hours watching a film I know will be pointless.
Well they're more niche genre and carry no brand appeal so you gotta do alot of marketing to get the word out. Back in the old days such auteur movies can do well like pulp fiction and even dumb movie Blair Witch scored a massive hit. This was before internet and mobile was a thing. But now people talk and in the era of short theatrical window and streaming options people are more selective on where they spend their money.
@@jonfreeman9682 niche genre yes. That’s an excellent way of putting it.
Between adblockers and not watching network tv anymore, if my favorite RUclips personality is t talking about it I have likely never heard of these new films.
I can’t say I’m upset by that fact either.
Enjoyed Kingdom but it is a much slower paced film. I expect some of the disconnect with the films is that there's a segment of the audience that went into the movie expecting it to pick up where War for the Planet of the Apes left off action-wise. Though it continues the franchise it is very much a new start for the franchise and the film needed to take some time introducing new heroes and getting audiences caught up on the world as it had evolved since Ceasar's death.
Maybe people are tired of handing over their hard earned cash for a mediocre products when they can watch it for free in a few months once it ends up on streaming, which they already paid for, anyway. Add in the contempt for their core audience, the over the top VFX and awful writing.
i watched abagail yesterday, i realy liked it as a popcorn horror/comedy..the actress playing abagail was realy good and i believe shes only 14 years old
It was brilliant. Ignore the critics as it's a great comedy horror though more comedy than horror.
The Fall Guy should have been about $60 million budget. I'm not sure why it's budget is so high. Also the studio totally botched it's advertising. Is it a comedy? Action? Drama? Character piece?
Anyone else remember how Hollywood behaved during 2020 or how they treat their child actors?
Pepperidge Farm, and this guy, remembers.
Kung fu panda 4 quietly paying the bills and debts of other movies again
Note to self Dave: Do not drink 2 tall Cans and smoke a J before going to watch a 2 hour movie, or you'll wake up 2 hours later in the theater with nobody there and the lights on 😂😂
I woke up at one point and it was 2am, movie theater was closed and locked up. I nodded out during Frozen 2 and woke up hours later and i guess no one had checked the theater 😂
@@L33Reacts Holy shit. How did you get out?
Don't forget Challengers failig to Challenge the box office too
68m on a budget of 58m so far
Tennis movies don't make money.
Lol zendaya is mid looking and can't act. Of course it failed! Lol
Sorry but that looks like a safe space milenial they cast for fall guy. In the og it was the great Lee Majors a real man's man. Safe space afraid to break a finger nail compared to hard as a rock. Sorry it was never gonna be as legendary as the OG
There is no "battle". Just support cinema
I would have thought Dune 2 would be up there. I wish these recent godzilla movies were more like the one with Brian Cranston or the TV show version.
Fine, I hope the Super Mario Bros Movie sequel will be more box office bomb than Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Appes at the disappointment box office.
POTA franchise already had a successful formula that was working great...I haven't seen the new movie yet but hope it continues that formula...Fall Guy just seems like a streaming movie to me instead of going to the theater. I think its just going to be a weak summer in general for all movies.
I’m excited for planet of the apes
Me too
All i have to say, there's a message being sent. There's a reason Roger Corman unfortunately passed. That was big news and big budgeted movies are failing. Of course, Godzilla Minus One made money because someone learned from the master about making a movie inexpensive. And the great movie maker passed who made movies inexpensive.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a mix of the three movies and the 1968 movie all of it mix together in one movie and it is completely different at the same time
103 million for an indie film is not bad at all.
This proves budgets are bloated, there is space for all these recent bombs, just not with these budgets.
I won't go to the cinema to watch this crap everything is just garbage I won't waste money anymore.
You’ll be sorely missed
Extremely hard pass on both. Thanks but no thanks.
The Planet of the apes movies in this run has been a solid, reasonable, and good fun movie so looking forward to the next instalment
I enjoyed Kingdom, I like a film that takes the time to build the characters and story 👍
It killed the two most interesting characters.
@@slang1517 Fair point
@@paulmilton5935 it really didn’t build much of anything. The movie ends right where it started, except now the humans have a satellite dish.
We are the underdog to Legendary.
-Disney
The he problem is that they’re in a catch-22 situation now, because the only way to fix this, which is to consistently put out quality original films even though they’re going to bomb for a good while until would-be movie goers start to gain trust again without running scared back to “safe” franchises and such. We all know that they’ll never do that, but it’s literally the only way. Also it would be a good idea to basically shut down streaming for the studios that have them and go back to the physical model with a wait period, which again, we all know that they’ll never do that. They’re too shy for the medicine that is at this point is needed for the cure. Such measures wouldn’t be needed if they hadn’t been so consistently awful for so long that general audiences more or less lost interest, but here we are now, there’s really no other way.
Emily Blunt’s somewhat anti-American attitude from a few years back might be a bit of a curse amongst a certain portion of the audience, and Gosling Fatigue continues to rule the day.
I've just re-watched the Caesar trilogy and it makes me more pumped to watch Kingdom, I hope to find time to see it soon
Unfortunate for Fall Guy. The movie was a blast. I understand Gosling and Blunt get a lot of money but I feel like the rest of the budget was too much as well. The action was good but it didn’t have scope or intricacy of a Mission Impossible film. It should’ve been 100 million tops. John Wick 4’s budget was a 100 million and it had a lot more going on than Fall Guy.
It’s bad to say but Fall Guy probably would’ve been a big hit on streaming. Oh, times have changed.
Good morning
🙏 🖖🏽
I had no idea The Fall Guy, was even out in theaters. I thought it was an Amazon exclusive. Just like Roadhouse! 😅😅😅
I went to see The Fall Guy three times which shows how much I actually enjoyed it. It was entertaining, and has no agenda in it. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was also decent.
Don't have an abiding interest in either of these films. No animus towards them, just - yeah, disinterest.
Hopefully that doesn't slow Ryan Gosling down in the eyes of Hollywood execs.
Why? Who cares about this guy? Be honest. Nobody goes to a movie to see that guy.
@dang75790 well that's not true for everyone. Since Nice Guys at least people have wanted to see him in roles.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is well worth a look in my opinion. It's not as good as the others from Matt Reeves, there are some issues with pacing and the climax offers a twist that might be off-putting for some people. But the movie is beautifully made from start to finish, the world building is fantastic if you give it a chance, it certainly isn't woke at any point, has one of the best villains of the entire franchise with Proximus and even has a young girl in a lead role that you're not supposed to like.
Wasn't aware of the existence of the Fall Guy movie, did they do any marketing? Maybe no one saw it because few knew about it?
Heard we have 5 more possible ape films coming?!!
Going to see kingdom of the planet of the apes on Tuesday, can't wait. It looks pretty good and I've liked the series for the most part so far.
I think Abigail would have done better if they had advertised it as an ordinary ransom/kidnapping movie, instead of as a possession/supernatural movie. Word of mouth about the great twist would have given it life.
Trailer ruined it
Nice haircut, you look fresh.
I saw The Fall Guy (2024)
Thoughts:
1) 40somethings acting like 20somethings
2) Made for our ADHD / clip-reel age with lots of special effects and little time to take stock and do some character development
3) I couldn’t really enjoy it on its own terms.
I think Apes will continue to grow legs but yeah Fall Guy is DOA
Will be amazed if the isnt massive closers of cinemas this year. Deadpool 3. Thats it.
ryan gosling is no movie star
Yes you're right @MrHreviews , People either love it or hate it. I had about 3 people walk out of my showing. I'd say the film is mid, but the last 30 minutes were great.
I’m so bored by every movie made now. Not interested in that fall guy type comedy now as it’s been done to death and more planet of the ape movies is bringing nothing new to the table. forgettable stuff.
Straight up facts tbh
It’s Hollywood creative bankruptcy, there’s nothing new or really anything to care about. They’re IP mining at this point filled with pointless reboots, sequels, prequels, remakes, etc.
So true.
Turns out there's no common culture anymore, and everyone hates the "tastemakers" who shot call all this BS.
Demoralization works, in other news.
Womp-womp.
True
Kingdom was🔥🔥🔥👌🏽
I thought The Fall Guy was fun, solid 6/10. Unfortunately I think Hollywood has just dug themselves into such a hole of terrible writing and ticket inflation is through the roof that most audiences aren't willing to shell out the money for somewhat more obscure or riskier films. Kinda makes me sad that Hollywood basically killed mid-budget cinema. I thought Apes was fine too, the standout for me being Proximus, but kind of dull story.
Out of all the movies I've seen this year, Kong x Godzilla was the most fun I had out of a film. Yeah, some reviewers had a different opinion from mine and that's fine. Ghostbuster Frozen Empire was fine, but had some WTF moments that made me go "Huh. Okay then." I recently seen Abagail and Kingdom of Planet of Apes and I both movies for me were enjoyable flicks. Overall out of the four, KxG is still my favorite film of this year.
Frozen empire was meh but the nostalgia is nice seeing the original gang back but I can't imagine it'll bring in new fans. Abigail was awesome. I love monster flicks and creature features and glad to see these movies are still doing well in cinema.
The movie theater experience is just too expensive. Gas, tickets, are high as it is. Let alone if you want popcorn or one drink. It's just not worth it to watch "popcorn" movies in the theater anymore.
I’m not adulting this summer. If all the streaming movies are woke, I doubt the cinema has anything better.
I saw both movies and really ad fun with The Fall Guy. I saw the ape movie last night and it is the first movie that I have witnessed half of the audience leaving within the first half of it. the movie was not the originals.
... poor selection this spring 🙄 think I check out thevFall and Apes after blury price drop under 10€ .
The Fall Guy starts out slow, but picks up with a twist. My son and enjoyed the film. It's not a blockbuster, but it was fun. I am long done with the Plant of the Apes.
The budget flr the fall guy is too high, 130 million isnt few
I've heard good things about Kingdom of the planet of the apes but I don't know about The fall guy, I'll have to learn more.
Ryan Gosling is too soft! As a man I can't relate to the guy. He chooses all the wrong types of roles IMO! He has potential but like I said needs to choose better roles.
I saw Fall Guy opening weekend and everything was good until partway through the 2nd act. By the 3rd act it went completely off the rails. They seriously ended the movie with no conclusion or consequences.
I dont care about any movies these past 5 years I don't even watch movies anymore I watch 10 min reactions of it because its sooooo boring to watch all of it knowing exactly what characters will say and do and rolling my eyes the whole time.
I will more then likely see the Garfield movie but to me Lorenzo Music is and will always be Garfield.
Mr H. pronunciation of divisive was very American. 😅
I saw the ape movie on Saturday
It had a few good moments but overall it was boring
Another planet of the apes movie? I'd rather watch the original from the 70's.
The new one is good.
Ryan Gosling isn't the draw Hollywood thinks he is.
He never was.
He's just good looking, but Ryan Reynolds is too and funnier.
He never really got off the ground
But he has so many hits like Barbie and more.
@@jonfreeman9682 Barbie wasn't a hit because of him.
The Fall Guy is a good movie. It's just too bad it bombed.
I like Ryan Gosling but most of him movies bomb don't they... Well they don't make loads of money... Barbie yes but thats cause it's barbie and margot Robbie.....didnt see the fall guy but I hear all the stunts are real, there the type of films we want to be doing well...
Barbie wasn't a success because of Margot Robbie either. All her films over the last 5 years or more, have ALL flopped. Barbie was only a success because of the brand. Unless she makes Barbie 2, her future films will also flop.

2 remakes once again No One Give a Fuck about.
Fall Guy is a Remake?
How is kingdom a remake
Truth be told…I felt Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes was boring as hell. This is where I fundamentally disagree with Mr. H for the first time with regards to criticisms on films as of late. Usually I’m aligned but the story felt…dull. A bit bland. I thoroughly enjoyed the trilogy but this new one did NOT hit like Caesar’s story at all. Went to see it with my whole family and we all felt it was somewhat of a snooze fest.
Such a shame I really enjoyed the Fall Guy....I could care less for any of the Planet of The Apes movies.
The new POTA was great! I might see it again this week!
Who cares about paul rudd or Reynolds.. they simply cant hold up a movie on their own. Antman and Deadpool dont count. They are simply too jarring to carry a role. 😅
The cinema is dying nobody's going to pay the prices anymore woke Hollywood has ruined the whole industry good riddance
I like your review videos, but why do not stick to your opinion of a movie. In your review you said kingdom of the planet was great now you are saying it's fine. There are a lot of great movies who did not very good at the box office, but the movies itself were great.
Kingdom slow start but it's okay seems to be building to something bigger and better in the next one..... FALL GUY seen it ALL before but it's just mediocre fun.... sometimes.... just not enough
I hate that planet of the apes is making any money. It’s clearly a movie made just to exhibit CGI and little else.
The reviews are decent and it is a strong franchise????? Not like they can use actual apes. They can’t talk.
Man how tf do You think they could do a monkey movie?
I don't really care much for the ape movies their good but not geared to go see them

After forty minutes of 'The Fall Guy'? Enough. Cynical.
Overdose of Emily blunt, loud overacting, zero chemistry with Ryan & she looked very old as a leading lady!! Feeling sorry for Gosling he was the best thing avt the movie ❤🔥 also the last action sequence was 🔥🔥🔥 but sum how bad editing, no chemistry between the lead pair, No romantic background created between them, Overall boring 1st half 😴, childish script & too much unnecessary screen presence of Emily blunt ruined the whole movie 👎👎👎 Also the villain didn't look convincing as a bad guy, more like an average looking, bad actor who played the role of a clown 😂😂😂
The negatives for _Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes_ is that it's too long (2 hr 25 min) and nothing much happens in that runtime. Should've had underground mutants in it.
You're calling CA 4 "complete shit" and you haven't even seen it. You have no credibility here. 👎🏾
why does everyone keep saying fall guy bombed?? i dont remeber it EVER being touted as a mega movie or something. jfc.
