You covered everything very well. I'll just add that my biggest problem with this set is that Hasbro went the cheap way out to maximize their profits. These figures had minimum accessories even though they increased the price and don't even include a Build a figure part. Their paint jobs are also minimum, a nice wash would have brought out the great sculpts of the villains and The Thing.
Initially, I was only interested in Psycho-Man and High Evolutionary. However, I just ordered Human Torch, based on your review of the figure. So Hasbro now owes you a cut. Good lookin' out, my friend! Great vid, as always!
I just recently got into Legends as a side thing to Transformers and it can be quite baffling at times. Some MLs are pretty cool and on some Hasbro drops the ball so hard, it almost looks like self-sabotage. I cannot imagine collecting everything from Marvel Legends, the part re-use is just obscene and laziness is rampant. Having said that, it seems that this year will have a bunch of interesting releases.
David ranting about Sue Storm will be entertaining for years to come; "Fantastic snore" lmao. Even Dwight had a distinct apologetic look on his face when he introduced retro Sue Storm on the live stream hehe.
I Swear you should be a Hasbro figure evaluator that has to validate these figures before release because you spoke nothing but pure FACTS everything you said was spot on, I got the whole wave too apart from the 2 villains and iv had to do some mods to be satisfied which i'm finding is becoming a regular occurrence with the legends.
I'm pretty sure they have that kind of position. They just have a limit on what they can spend on each figure so things will get ignored or cut in order to maintain cost. Like each wave has a cost of X and they spend more of that budget on come figures over other.
David - thank you so very much. I apologize for the length (that's what she said) please skip if too long to read. I am a very serious comic FF fan and you hit all of the points I thought of as well. To have to compromise on a FF wave to just 3 figures (Invisible Sue and Flaming Johnny replaced the Super Skrull BAF ones - new? kinda) makes me believe something is not right here. To answer your title question: I believe so. I substantiate my opinion with two points; 1. Quality; 2. Character Selection processing. 1: From the Marvel Line Manager down to Sales & Advertising, Hasbro convinced this lover of their product to lower my expectations coming from the people responsible for Quality. Until convinced otherwise, I can only attribute this sorry state of Quality to Hasbro's sole focus on their budget and not researching who these characters are (FF) and their clients (us). How many emails with Sue's face travelled around Hasbro with folks accepting it? Did someone in the mothership not think it is a tad pretentions of them to expect comic FF lovers to spend their $ on that face? Both redundant questions that lead to my second point - the process to select which characters to make. 2. For the FF, this makes three teams in four years degrading in quality with each series - wouldn't a wave to commemorate their 60th Anniversary include - a Flame On Johnny, An Invisible Sue, a Ben Grimm in an Astronaut suit (use that Psycho Man mold) and Reed with Stilt Man BAF-like legs - something different then a recycle? Both villains are nice-to-have's, yet I am curious how many of us lovers bought them because we don't have either in our collections and not because we WANTED Hasbro to make them? Hasbro - please start watching Displaying Model Behaviour?
My local Wal-mart has a lot of this wave still on the shelves and they’ve been there for weeks. Waiting on the clearance bin. I was fortunate to get all of the Walgreens FF figures during their release which included getting Sue on an accidental clearance price of $5. 👍🏻
It's a fine wave for those that don't have any Fantastic Four representation, personally I like these colors the most and the timing is just perfect for me. I fixed my Sue Storm by swapping the faces with a previous version and put the hair on that and my god it's such an improvement, they honestly should have just done that instead of a new face sculpt.
Just feels like an odd wave, I thought they had their strongest year ever in 2021. I will never say they do not need to continue to do better though that's for sure.
I agree with most of your criticisms, although I think Psycho Man is perfect, other than maybe some silver highlights on his emotion box would have been nice. Reed is absolutely my favorite of the wave, and as a fun bonus, the lab coat and arms work on the recent Leader we got, since he was also built on the Mr. Fantastic buck. The pegs on the new Reed arms are slightly smaller so the arms are a little loose, but you can make it work for Science Time Leader if you want. One disagreement is with your assessment of the three Things on this buck. The paint shading is much better on this one than on the Super Skrull wave one. Neither is anywhere near as good as the perfection of the Walgreens one with the black wash, but this new one looks much better compared to the SS wave one. I can't even bring myself to open up High Evolutionary, because the fun factor appears to register in the negative digits. Great review, Dave! Always love seeing you speaking truth to Hasbro!
@@Cyber023 I would take parts of both the invisible woman and make a bad ass version and if you have the other head that looks better than a new one I would use that too and then with the Jonny storm you can customize that too and have a flame on but with the suit still on as well so be kind of cool you got a Lotta options very easy to do All you Gotta do is heat them up and pop the joints
The open mouth head is my favorite Thing head....after I cut part of the inner part out, shaved it down, heated up the head and glued the mouth closed, then put the inner mouth part back in to maintain the sculpt of the head. So the head could have been way better if they thought about it for more than 5 minutes.
Hey DDMB 👋, I just got this FF wave. I'm still waiting to get the Hasbro Pulse Invisible Woman and Johnny Storm. I think the figures are pretty good. I agree the main Invisible Woman face isn't best but could be worse. I'm also getting few figures from new Spiderman wave too.
I think that these might be worse peg warmers than the eternals figures. I went hunting last week and hit 5 Walmarts. I ended up seeing over 100 figures from this wave. One of the Walmarts had about 20 in the toy aisle and then another 20-30 in the clearance section. They are just sitting everywhere.

I love your insights. Hasbro is on a different kind of frenzy now: issue too may figures, reuse too many parts and now lacking paint and wash. I think what could have worked for the figures that almost nailed it: is to use darker toned plastics and use a wash. 😊
Can you make a "Super Salty" cut that uses the footage (if you still have it) of you being really negative about everything? I think it would be interesting to see what you found "too dark" and ended up doing away with, so it can be an edited compilation of you turning to the Dark Side and then catching yourself in it and deciding not to go further down that path lol, and whenever that happens and you end up scrapping something, you may be able to salvage some of it to make "Super Salty" cuts and edits that showcase where you were headed and what you didn't like lol. Just an idea for making use of the efforts still and turning it into comedy for the channel! it is also useful and relatable, it probably happens to a lot of us, and by your showing yourself going in that direction and the limits of what you think is too negative to the point of making you feel unhappier too, it might help others catch themselves when they are spiraling in negativity as well!
just picked up the villains and new torch; you're right about the rest being re-heated leftovers maybe a wash on psycho-man and high evolutionary would bring out the details/make them feel less plasticky? from one Dave to another, cheers, and keep up the good work!
I am certain that these are to match the Fantastic Four animated series, hence the green and white and the pink High Evolutionary. That also might explain the crummy Sue face. If Psycho Man had a lime green in place of the white, with a little shade work in the wrinkles, he’d be much better. More emphasized brows would bring out the disdain Psycho Man usually displays. And I’m not quite certain, but his face might be just a construct, because in the appearances I’ve seen him in, when they bust his armor, he’s either been a giant robot or a refugee from the Microverse/Quantumverse.
From the looks of things everything you say on the High Evolutionary is spot on and I can 100% tell you how they could have improved it. In a sence the figure we got is great and comic accurate. On the other hand the look and feel is underwhelming for a Marvel Legend. The way to improve it is to give us the High Evolutionary as Jack Kirby drew it.
The whole point of retro is that they look retro. These FF figures look like the comic books of the 70s and 80s. Thats part of the charm. But the prices are silly. £15 would be OK. But £25! I just bought a Mcfarlane Superman /Doomsday boxset for 30.And they are to big heavy, great looking figures. Keep up the good work. I've actually bought a couple of figures due to ur reviews. 👍
absolutely agree with everything said in the video. but I've realised recently, I have or want nearly every figure in this wave (bar psycho man). bought johnny, reed and Ben because I don't have a fantastic four (wasn't fully invested when the super skrull wave came out), need sue (hell, I don't really want her, I just want her to complete the team). then I got high evolutionary because he looks cool to me. love the candy red with the nearly bluish silver (that if it were real silver, looks like it would be cold to touch). overall tho, I really think this wave represents everything wrong with current legends. re-iterative characters, sculpts not given proper love (high evolutionary's face details, sue's entire head), no build a figure piece (no idea who the baf would be, but it would be the push I need to buy psycho man) and retro packaging that can't be reused (seriously don't like that. like, they actually make cool packaging but then don't let you take out the figure, play with it a bit, then put it back in the box without completely ruining said box? for shame!) yeah. real shame
I personally love this wave and glad it exists as the only way to get a “classic” Fantastic Four before this was all Walgreens exclusives and thats not collector friendly. The Super Skrull wave was WAY to modern for my liking hated those costumes myself.
I thankfully resisted my urge to say The Invaders, not the Defenders. But your Thing voice is magnificent. What’s with Ben having a Mar-A-Lago spray tan?
The line is okay, but I feel the blue should be darker, when John Byrne changed it in the comics, it was almost black. Also, if you use the G.I. Joe Classified Scarlet head with Sue's retro hair, is a big improvement. I would have loved to see some other invisible effects. They should have given Reed the extended bendy arms, along with the strechy fingers. I like the new head sculpts of the Thing, looks closer to John Byrne's look of the Thing, but they should have given it the wash instead of the highlights. Love the coloring of the Human Torch.
I don't like being negative either, but sadly it's just true that the Retro F4 wave could be representative of the beginning of me getting away from collecting Marvel Legends. I've been collecting long enough now that I have many of the characters I want, and these new figures are not good enough to replace the ones I have. These are not interesting enough for me to buy if all the figures are is just repaints with new headsculpts. I need something more interesting. There's no unique sculpt work here on the heroes, no new accessories, and so they are yet again just repainting a mold. That's not good enough. Not at this price point and not when there are competitors that offer so much more at that price. They're going to have to figure out a way to divvy the budget from the MCU or from the villains that they give so much love to. If they can continue to give us figures like Shocker or Armored Spider-Man, I'm all in. But they lose me when they do stuff like Hobgoblin, Sleepwalker, Spider-Man 2099, Loki, Falcon, Shriek, and these F4 figures. As always, I appreciate your fair and honest review, and I agree with much of what you say, but they need to start doing better. I hope they do.
I’m a fantastic four fanatic and I agree with you. Except you said some characters don’t lend themselves to action figure form. I don’t think that applies here. Legends was lazy. I don’t see how they did such a great job with doom and drop the ball with High Evaluationary.
I have the Walgreen's FF wave, the FF: Super Skrull wave, and the retro FF wave. Tbh, I like the Walgreen's wave the most. Yet the FF : Super Skrull is just as decent as its predecessor. With the retro wave does have the best of 3. Excluding derpy Sue Richards. Imo retro Johhny Storm is better looking than Super Skull version.
I got the Human Torch recently and he might be on one of the best base bodies in Marvel Legends history. I only have one problem with him and that’s the fact that the piece on his back keeps falling off.
Had to purchase a Walgreens sue storm head online and attach the hair from the new figure onto that to be happy instead of that busted face sculpt we got!
Its crazy how they can make somebody like Cable and years later make someone like this Sue Storm. Plus I dont ever remember mr.fantastic using his stretchy powers to make his fingere bigger.
The top dog for legends is an on card collector so he dumps all his money into packaging. These figures are only worth with buying if you didn’t get them before or you’re a mint card collector.
I love the Thing and I wanted High Evolutionary but when I saw it in stores, it looked cheap to me. I think some metallic red / pink would have made it pop better. I didn't like the milky pink plastic. Too bad. I like the character but couldn't buy the figure.
My personal taste is the main reason i dodged these figures. If they are supposed to be Retro, then why they do not uphold the artsyle of the show these figures are supposed to represent??? It is just realistic appearances wearing the animated suits. The easy way out. Besides, they have a card packaging. I would feel pain and regret on every step it takes to get them out of the box.
I wish I knew how to paint figures Bcus I absolutely love the hair on Sue but I just need her face to look a little better (Also idk if u still read comments but I’m new and I’m loving your channel I shall sub!)
Lol, nope. Marvel Legend has been on the decline for awhile but the consumers allow them to continue to do repaints so they’ll continue to do what they can to as see how much they can get away with it.
I was going to buy the Armadillo BAF line which would have been my first baf and first unopened figure purchase in my life but I couldn't bring myself to do it. that trash black/gold Spiderman, ruined it for me. So Hasbro lost out on $125+ dollars from a potential new customer.
I think that you are not getting that this is a retro commemorative wave and the plasticity of the color and the figures in general, matches with the original toy biz toys and the stile on the FF 90s show
I don’t have any problem with Susan’s Face tbh I think it captures that 80, 90’s Woman look. I feel offended since I’m getting theses versions of the F4 too start off my marvel legends collections bcz I really like em 😭😭
I didn't think this line was that bad? Sure it's reuse, but hasbro wanted the quick $. Seems like no one likes FF4 anymore except me? Only bad thing about this line was sue storms face, the hair was nice. They needed more characters for sure though.
Honestly. I don't mind the Sue Storm head sculpt. Female figures have historically been not very good. Not a fan of the old female body. I think this Sue looks like they are moving into better areas. I definetly like it better than the Walgreens one. Imo
It’s about time someone called out Hasbro. I feel like Marvel Legends has been in decline since the second half of 2020. Is that somehow related to the Pandemic? I don’t know. I just know that Hasbro isn’t living up to the standards they themselves have set for this line. They need to chill on the quantity and start sweating the quality.
what Marvel legends need is more sculpted details, Mcfarlanes is dishing out figures with so much sculpted detail with taller figures at a cheaper price. its maddening to see painted gloves and boots.
The shading / highlights on The Thing look horrible. They didn’t blend in the lighter color at all. I think Hasbro phoned this wave in because of Galactus. They figured it would sell regardless of the shortcomings.
Just makes no sense at times, like u say sometimes Hasbro does grt and other times ur left saying wtf. Not only do they give u a figure that has same exact body mold almost 85% plus on the figure but they do less paint applications just to do the bare minimum, let’s not forgot the first 2 times they released almost same exact figure it came with tons more accessories etc. so now u get a less repainted figure with maybe different hand shape or head that’s it, no accessories now or just 1 worthless one. And the biggest kicker. They want more $ for this newer figure then what u paid for the older better painted and more accessories figure in the past. And it’s not inflation that raised the price. It’s just Hasbro and other companies at that trying their best to do the least amount work and cost cutting and still raise the price on it for the consumer. Yes a good business tries to make more profit over spending but come on. Just a little more effort on their part would go a real long way to making their fans happy. We know they can do it.
The invisible woman head scuplt looks like that one creepypasta video I feel FANTASTIC lol get it? Yup someone at hasbro knows the video apparently lol
The whole line is getting a bit boring to me.....I mean how many times can you re do a character.....it works for new collectors, but it feels like your never buying your final version of any character....would be nice if they re made some of the harder ones to get (multiple man,stryfe,cable..etc)
Maybe Reed asks her to go into invisible mode when he is face to face with her in bed (on days she looks like that figure). I think she might prefer it that way too! No judgment! Spectral Intercourse! I really enjoyed the Psycho-Man faces and every chance you get to put some acting and performing into the videos haha, I'd love for impressions of all the characters you discuss and showcase!
Since when did reuse in a toyline indicate it "declining" in quality? Lol and that Psycho Man was one of my favorite legends of last year personally; even holding it in hand it didn't feel like a traditional legends figure
When they take away all the extra features the originals had. That’s definitely a decline. We paid a higher price and lost Reeds Stretchy arms, HERBIE, extra flames on Johnny and translucent effects on Sue. That’s a fair old decline.
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour You're ignoring the fact that redecos and minimal accessories are standard for these retro figures for the most part, that we got two original sculpts in Psycho man and High Evolutionary, and that the prices for toys have gone up across the board. On top of the fact that "lazy" reuse is perfectly normal for a toyline that wants to use that earned money to finance new stuff down the line. And legends are the best now overall than they've ever been. No decline here.
This really strange and I don’t have picture to back it up but my invisable woman head is good and looks nothing like the ones I’ve seen online. Also no baf in retro serie . Be negative at times cos all that happy positivity isn’t reality.ying and yang balance

Ha! That’s where I’ve seen that tone of orange!
Great insight brother. I agree %100 good on ya.
And I appreciate your great feedback brother!
They could’ve given Sue the new arms from Shriek. It wouldn’t have made up the head but, double jointed arms.
Those salad fingers gots to go
They gats ya geow!
I got the Human Torch recently and he might be on one of the best base bodies in Marvel Legends history. I only have one problem with him and that’s the fact that the piece on his back keeps falling off.
That Sue . . .and I thought Human Torch would be warming the peg. See what I did there?
Had to purchase a Walgreens sue storm head online and attach the hair from the new figure onto that to be happy instead of that busted face sculpt we got!
honestly hoping for a mr fantastic baf. Like a huge stretchy reed. But ya we need more bendy stuff for reed all the same.
Its crazy how they can make somebody like Cable and years later make someone like this Sue Storm. Plus I dont ever remember mr.fantastic using his stretchy powers to make his fingere bigger.
nobody wants to talk about the badass thing impression??
THANK. YOU! :)
That's what I call Talent..
That head isn't a terrible sculpt, but it's just not Susan Richards. I put that hair on a Super-Skrull wave Invisible Woman head and it works great!
I love this wave got Pysoman and High Evoulatavery
The top dog for legends is an on card collector so he dumps all his money into packaging. These figures are only worth with buying if you didn’t get them before or you’re a mint card collector.
High Evolutionary was a very strange choice for a FF line.
I love the Thing and I wanted High Evolutionary but when I saw it in stores, it looked cheap to me. I think some metallic red / pink would have made it pop better. I didn't like the milky pink plastic. Too bad. I like the character but couldn't buy the figure.
I’ve paired high evolutionary with my King Kong and moon boy and I think it makes him cooler than what he originally was 😂
My personal taste is the main reason i dodged these figures.
Omg did you use a pitch app to lower your voice when doing the things impression?
Lol trade secret ;)
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour love it
I wish I knew how to paint figures Bcus I absolutely love the hair on Sue but I just need her face to look a little better
(Also idk if u still read comments but I’m new and I’m loving your channel I shall sub!)
Brother I read all the comments! Well to the party pal! :)
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour I’m a lady and thank you for the welcome keep up the great work!!
I have 3/4 of the walgreens wave I don't have the thing from that wave I have the super skrull thing because I will not pay $80 for the exclusive...
I totally get that!
I think that you are not getting that this is a retro commemorative wave and the plasticity of the color and the figures in general, matches with the original toy biz toys and the stile on the FF 90s show
Definitely very cartoon coloured
Lol hilarious intro and you got a great American accent.
I don’t have any problem with Susan’s Face tbh I think it captures that 80, 90’s Woman look.
I feel offended since I’m getting theses versions of the F4 too start off my marvel legends collections bcz I really like em 😭😭
Hey nothing wrong with getting her :)
You have the Funko Pop added in the display!
He’s earned his place through comedy value!
I didn't think this line was that bad? Sure it's reuse, but hasbro wanted the quick $. Seems like no one likes FF4 anymore except me? Only bad thing about this line was sue storms face, the hair was nice. They needed more characters for sure though.
jfc that intro was hilarious lmaooooo
Honestly. I don't mind the Sue Storm head sculpt. Female figures have historically been not very good. Not a fan of the old female body. I think this Sue looks like they are moving into better areas. I definetly like it better than the Walgreens one. Imo
THE CRITICAL DRINKER REFERENCE!!!!
I'm looking forward to the Mezco FF set. In general, I avoid Marvel Legends. Only higher-end 6-inch figures for me.
The thing is not bad at all I really like that figure.
The only way you could use that open mouth thing head is if he's having a relaxed conversation with someone not quite happy but not mad just relaxed
what Marvel legends need is more sculpted details, Mcfarlanes is dishing out figures with so much sculpted detail with taller figures at a cheaper price. its maddening to see painted gloves and boots.
Amen!
Great impressions.
A black line and a little dark wash fixes both villains
But this Sue Storm figure looks exactly like my dear college girlfriend 😓😓😓 and now I can’t unhear your words….
Dave, there's technically one member of the wave that you missed. The retro Dr. Doom that came our last year. Remember all the stuff he came with?
Doom is part of the series, but not part of this wave.
You’re right Diesel!
And Alan! :)
The shading / highlights on The Thing look horrible. They didn’t blend in the lighter color at all. I think Hasbro phoned this wave in because of Galactus. They figured it would sell regardless of the shortcomings.
Absolutely agree
Im happy i got the human torch for 2 dollars on ross
Amen!
I swapped the head on my sue storm as i prefer the blue and white and these are the only one
That’s a good swap!
I laughed so hard when you just went like bad Hasbro bad
They need to learn! :)
Sue and Thing was a disappointment made me decide to ignore this wave for now. Johnny looks amazing
This wave is only good for people like me who missed out on the other FF figures
Psychoman is supposed to be made of plastic and look fake as it's not his true body..
put the super skrull build a figure wave head on that sue.
This really strange and I don’t have picture to back it up but my invisable woman head is good and looks nothing like the ones I’ve seen online. Also no baf in retro serie . Be negative at times cos all that happy positivity isn’t reality.ying and yang balance
Sue was the biggest disappointment. She looks like Bet Middler
I think its cause they know we're going to spend our money
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTS STAR JAMMERS!?!?!?!
I’m not buying this line.
