I've been using OLFA's for years every single day for work for the last ten years, but haven't touched mine since getting the CUTTIX. Truthfully I don't use the the spine that often, but the first time I cut carpet pad with it I was instantly sold. The cuttix is lightweight, carries extra blades, and the stiffener really comes in handy when you need it.
Depending on the day, I can snap off one to two full blade replacements worth of blades. So the storage is critical.

I’m not sure why extra blade storage isn’t standard on OLFA knives. I really like OLFA knives the ergonomics are always on point, but they lack the storage capability with any knife I’ve ever got from them.

OLFA provides various kinds of snap-off knives for example OLFA PL-1 can store 6 blades in the handle and has "auto load" function.
Just search OLFA PL-1 or OLFA MZ AL on youtube to see how the knife looks and its features, the OLFA MZ AL is the dark gray version of the PL-1.
There is also the OLFA OL which has an extended blade channel so you can extend the blade up to 3 segments but the blade will remain solid because it is supported by the blade channel and of course there are several other different versions.
My advice is if you need a sturdier blade, better buy a 25mm knife than spend $30 on a utility knife.

Great info! thank, I'll look into that, I like OLFA knives, and I haven't had one with blade storage yet.

@@ParklanCustom If you prefer metal handles then the NT Cutter L-2000 can be an alternative, the handle is made of a combination of stainless steel, aluminum, a little bit of plastic and is also capable of storing 6 blades.
NT Cutter is OLFA's rival which has been making snap knives since 1959. approximately 3 years after OLFA created snap knives, most of the snap knives that you see today are imitating or "inspired" by the OLFA and NT Cutter designs apart from that just like OLFA they also only make their products in Japan to minimize the possibility of manufacturing defects.
The NT Cutter L-2000 is made by NT Cutter in 1979 in the same year OLFA created the rotary cutter and to my knowledge the first utility knife with additional blade storage with an "auto load" feature then in 1999 OLFA made the PL-1 with a different mechanism but has the same function.

      I'm a big fan of 25mm blades, but I don't think it's that simple.
The 25mm olfa blades arent' just wider though, they are thicker. Depending on what you're cutting or doing you may not want that thick of a blade, and you may need to get into areas that the 25mm blade doesn't fit.
A 25mm blade and handle is also bigger and heavier in your pocket or tool pouch.
Fully extended the 25mm blades still have far more flex in them than the Cuttix with the stiffener.
So it may be worth spending a bit more on the cuttix if those factors matter to you.
As for the OLFA OL, it's a good solution but you may not want to deal with the ratchet lock. Ratchet lock is a two handed slower operation. If there's an olfa OL with the click lock I'd love to see it.
Personally I think in the lifetime of a utility blade holder, $10 is nothing if it gives you features that make you more comfortable or efficient on the job.

@@caramelzappa I've been using a 25mm snap off knife for over 7 years and so far I haven't had any trouble cutting a wide variety of building materials.
I was even able to cut a car tire when I made a swing seat from a used car tire, besides that I also used it to slaughter a goat to end his suffering after being hit by my car.
If I'm not mistaken my OLFA XH-AL is about 2cm longer, less than 1cm wider and thicker besides that on my analog scale the XH-AL weighs only about 145 grams which is almost the same as the Cutix 144 grams.
So Cutix does not provide a significant size advantage at all and when cutting thick materials like styrofoam the 25mm blade will also provide less resistance than the Cutix stabilizer bar.
Oh yeah I've also tried Cutix and my opinion doesn't change, for me the biggest drawback of Cutix is the price and the mechanism for changing the blade which is very difficult, especially when I use thick gloves.

I have a feeling the magnesium housing has to do with the choice to make it in Spain. The TubiX is also made on Spain and is also made of magnesium.

Correct, the company making those magnesium castings is located in Spain. Knipex doesn't have that capability at their factory in Wuppertal.

@@ParklanCustom all our cuts were full blade depth on our snap off ones so we couldn't use Stanley knives. I have to say I'm actually slightly disappointed in the fastback, I just got one and did not realise it was all plastic. It just doesn't feel as sturdy or hefty as my fatmax one does

i got it for myself just because i like knipex quality.
dont like it at all, its expencive, blade is quite dificult to replace, i never had need for that gimmic with blade stabilisation, and its made of metal, which is problematic when stripping cable under voltage. one good thing is the pin that holds blade is steel, but overall its not neerly worth the cost, and also its houseing is made from two sides that are held together with two little notches, and i can totally imagine that brakeing if it falls on hard surface several times, also its shape and grip are not the best. i have it but i wont be useing it, i will stick with my tajima.
until recently knipex use to be exclusively pliers company, and best in the world at that, than they released electrician screwdrivers that turned out to be utter shit, and now this... knipex stick to pliers and gtfo with this bullshit.

Just not durable enough for general construction use. The plastic triggers started wearing petty fast and then the blade stopped locking in properly. Lasted about 3 months.

Good video. *HORRIBLE* knife. The blade release button doesn't move the blade retention stud that holds the blade enough to release the blade (or easily insert a new blade, for that matter). The only safe way to change the blade is to use a pair of pliers or disassemble the knife. The stabilizer is a brilliant design innovation, but I can't imagine how a design team that could come up with that improvement could design a blade release that works so poorly.

Knipex makes the best pliers but that utility knife is a gimmick. No where near as good as an Olfa, from any point of view..Also. Knipex has good steel on their pliers but shity steel on their scissors, where Olfa, has a scissors, that on some people I know, last decades! Knipex electrical scissors, have WAY softer steel and cost more here. I also like the Olfa makes many scissors models, so I have one in my pocket, that can still do huge damage, while the 7 inch one, stays in my tool case. I like to choose the best from each company, not just stiuck to a brand. I own a ton of Knipex and I swear by my Cobra and wrench 180!

The blue parts most be made out of glass because when it hit the grown it bounced back up and damn near hit my head. I’m 6’3. Didn’t even last a week. Great idea but they should had made in Germany🤬
