  • Original broadcast from Buenos Aires "Radio Nacional" in 1950, with Alberto Castellanos and Gran Orquestra Clásica de LR1.
    That's pretty much the same thing that kimolerik posted at the same time, but here it's all-in-one video.
    My proposal was never to post original videos, but to post them in a single shot.

    It's what I've always said to her critics who insist she plays everything too fast. It is NOT too fast - this is how she hears the music. For anyone else, it would be too fast, but not for her. For her this is correct, and it works. Everything this piano genius plays works. You can love it or leave it, but M.A. is one of the greatest piano talents of all time. Period.

      Actually, the phenomenon of playing faster than one realizes oneself is not uncommon. In later life, such musicians listen to their earlier recordings and can't believe they were so stupid as to play the music so fast. With experience and maturity, such musicians can gradually learn to synchronize the tempo which their muscles enjoy playing with the tempo their ear knows to be the right one for the composer. I have taught students myself who play faster than they realize they are playing, but recording themselves soon convinces them! That said, I feel M.A. doesn't really play this concerto so terribly fast, and I agree that she is a remarkable genius.

      Actually the pitch here is E, a tone higher than it should be. I suspect the tape has become corrupted over the years, and it would also mean the original is probably about 10 % slower. But her playing is just gorgeous.

      I've slowed it down ooo the key is D and the tempo has changed from about 72 to 67 bpm. A huge difference.

    UN crítico norteamericano dijo sobre ella:"nació para tocar el piano". Después de escuchar esta grabación a sus 9 años ¿alguien puede opinar en contrario?. Martha Argerich es un genio.

    Unbelievable! Nine years old and she made a full concert orchestra look good. God has been good to her from the beginning...till now when her talent is still being shared with all of us (and she is a malignant melanoma survivor!).

    Unbelievable technique for anyone, let alone a 9 yr old. Mozart would be stupefied.

    This is played a little faster. So originally she played a little slower. So don't say she played fast.

    Speed, of course, but what delicacy at times as well - beautiful phrasing - like that of a mature adult already, no longer musically a child. Superb!

      Why is there those up and down in the sound of the record like if the turn table wouldn't be even ? Es dificil saber si es ella que hace las dinámicas o no. Gracias por responder.

  • @Kiarinadia

    Can you explain why the sound change tone all the time and most of all it is on E min instead of D min ? That's one tone above the real pitch. So is the tempo of the recording is accurate ? May be it is playing after then it was in real ? Thanks for the sharing.

      The tape would have become corrupted over the years, and it does mean the original in D minor would have been slower.

    Anyone know who wrote this cadenza?

    • @matthewquan1529
      @matthewquan1529 7 лет назад

      Most records of this piece use Beethoven's version, including this one.

    • @alexispappagianis924
      @alexispappagianis924 7 лет назад +1

      Sorry, but this is not the Beethoven cadenza traditionally played with this concerto. This cadenza (1st mvmt) starts with broken octaves, Beethoven's starts with a series of trills. Unless this is an alternate Beethoven cadenza, but that's doubtful. Thanks though!

      Interesting article, thank you!
      As much as I like the virtuosic cadenzas, they are sometimes a bit overkill; just an attempt to cram every possible theme from the movement into 2 minutes. Have you heard Landowska or Gieseking play their cadenzas? They are more musical than most others.
