And they're usually used to represent some of the most important and/or most prominent features of each game: Gen 2 Pichu - Baby pokemon and their obtention through breeding in the daycare. Gen 3 plusle and minun - Double battles Gen 4 pachirisu - physical/special split (with pachirisu being the first pikachu clone with higher physical attack), gender differences (with it being the only pikachu clone that has one and were pretty prominent in gen 4) and being one of the mascots for gen 4 online features added in gen 4. Gen 5 emolga - Hidden abilities (with it being the only pokemon that at the time had the ability motor drive as its hidden ability, only obtainable through the dream world). Gen 6 Dedenne - Fairy type Gen 7 Togedemaru - Z-crystals/totem pokemon. Gen 8 Morpeko - Temporary form change during battle. Gen 9 Pawmi - Let's go mode. Which is the way you evolve it to its final stage and also very noticeable feature introduced in the generation.
For the record, if you want to make another pair of Plusle and Minun, I'd recommend using the north and south magnetic polarities, since they are the magnetic equivalents of the electric plus and minus.
In batteries the negative side has excess electrons and give those out to the positive side that has no or less electrons. So the negative side actually gives off energy while the positive takes the energy, so you got it switched in the video

There's actually a Rivals of Aether mod that executes the concept you talked about at the end really well. 4:07 - Fuuu…sion! HAA! (Seriously? No once else saw that before I got here?) One other thing about cheering in Japan: It feels more organized. Just take a look at any Japanese baseball game, and the cheering done by the fans seems almost rehearsed!
It bothers me a lot that they made them plus & minus, BUT gave them the same generic happy personalities. Minun absolutely should have had a "negative" personality. Like being shy or sad or grumpy or whatever. If you're gonna make them exactly the same then what's the point??
I mean, it makes sense considering that they’re also based on cheerleaders, who are meant to be peppy and cheery, but maybe at least making Minun kind of a stereotypical “mean girl cheerleader” who looks down on others and views *them* negatively instead. Thus fitting both themes.
Always wished Plusle and Minun had an ability that worked like Pikachus Light Ball when they were together in a double battle but boosted all their stats.
These 2 mons are honestly a great design and one of the best ways to show off double battles... if only they were actually good :\ These 2 really need an evolution of some kind.
I used the Plusle in Colosseum, despite being extremely underleveled at first, once it caught up it was one of my best party members So yeah I'd say they're good enough
Honestly I feel like plusle and minun are the Pokémon that deserve a new evolution maybe like the first two Pokémon into one evolution (like the reverse of an split evolution) where they both turn into a neutral charge Pokémon or they could even have a fused neutral form as well, just a few ideas.
Well, Iron Valiant alone makes me think there could be a sort of "fusion" battle gimmick in the near future (of course, this means Gardevoir and Gallade could get that treatment, too).
These guys using helping Hand in PMD was oddly satisfying the more pokemon there are in the room, as it would play that patty cake animation for each one, followed by the Attack and Special Attack Boost sound effect. *CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP BOOP! BWOING!*
Recent anime Minun aside, I did always really like how Minun has always been portrayed as just as energetic and peppy as Plusle. Instead of stereotyping negative as the negative personality types, they're both equally cheery. I'll give recent anime Minun a pass though since its not a traditional portrayal and different individuals would have different personalities.
I'd love to see a Fairy type evolution for Plusle that's the giving Pokémon where it gives to others like healing, food, or other things but I love giving pain for those who cross the line, meanwhile for Minum its a Dark type where it's a kleptomaniac where it loves to take things from others, like food, iteams, and other stuff, but it can be a softie and only steals stuff necessary to the poor or Pokémon in need
I can also see the positive and negative as a reference to cheerleader stereotypes They’re supposed to be really peppy and cheerful aka positive but a lot of them are also toxic bullies aka negative
I can also see the positive and negative as a reference to cheerleader stereotypes They’re supposed to be really peppy and positive but a lot of them are also toxic bullies aka negative
An idea just hit me, though Gamefreak probably would never do it: what if you had a convergent evolutionary line. Like how we have branching evolutionary lines, only you can have two different Pokemon evolve into the same one. The reason why I'm mentioning it on this video is because there is one more charge for electricity, or rather the lack of charge. It could work like how Mantyke evolves, where you need the two Pokemon in your party (in this case Plusle and Minun). Just a weird idea.
That could be a fun normal-type pikaclone that evolves into an electric type if you have both in the party. Actually, you could do it as a Mimikyu evolution as it gains the charge to become more like Pikachu (I'm not sure which type it should lose, though).
@@Ditidos Well I was thinking of it in regards to Plusle and Minun because when a positive charge and a negative charge meet and electrons shift, then they becomes neutral.
@@Rainears129 Oh, I though you meant like a convergent Pokémon to Plusle and Minun. It would be fun, they could even maintain the hability from the previous form (or power up/benefit from anyone with either plus or minus).
I have always loved these two. I think they buck the pikaclone trend really well and stand on their own. But MAN I wish they were in Smash. They'd be excellent for that! And it would be super cute to have little cheerleaders. I bet they'd have a helping hand move that has the bonus effect of working on teammates in team battles.
I’ve seen so many fanart of multiplication and division Pokemon as well. I was not good at science. Physics was my *curse* in high school. 😅 Cool connection between American and Japanese culture.
I love these two as PikaClones, because they really tie into the new mechanic introduced in Gen 3. Like, they're not just some generic electric rodent, they have a gameplay purpose of showing off this new mechanic through a Pokemon people are supposed to feel familiar with (cuz it reminds them of Pikachu). Unfortunately, the only other two gens that did this are Gen 6 with giving Dedenne the new Fairy-type, and Gen 7 by giving Raichu an Alolan Form. Pachirisu and Emolga and stuff are cool, but they don't tie into the mechanics like Plusle and Minun, which is what makes Plusle and Minun so cool
As a cheerleader and backspot, I would like to say that the backspot does more than just stand there making sure the flyer doesn’t fall. We also keep the stunt together and give some support to the bases. Also, I want to point out that for American cheerleading only school/college/sport cheer was mentioned. There’s an entire other world of all-star cheer where we compete against other cheer teams to get the highest score from a board of judges. Disney’s Summit is one of, if not the biggest all-star cheer competition in the States. We don’t cheer on any team but ourselves and all-star cheer is extremely intense compared to what I’ve seen in school/college cheer
Gen 3 is my favorite generation of pokemon and in the dozens of times I've played the games I never even though about Plusle and Minun being math related.
These little guys are seriously underrated. As a fan artist I LOVE drawing them and I own three plushies of each. Though funnily enough when I played Sapphire back in middle school, I assumed that if you bread them together you'd get a Pichu; like they were just the two split halves of a Pichu like what happened to Kirk in the episode The Enemy Within...but no, they're their own species. In fairness at the time they really were the first "Pikachu clones." Pichu doesn't count because it's just Pikachu's pre-evolution. A tiny correction about your science here though; since electrons are negatively charged and are (usually) the particles that freely move around in circuits, it's actually negatively charged things that give electrons to positively charged things. Again, "usually." Lightning can sometimes be a weird exception to that, where positively charged ions (atoms missing electrons" can literally be ripped from the ground to meet the descending negative charge from the cloud. At least that's my very basic understanding of it.
I feel like Plusle and Minun were such a great idea that was severely underbaked and underutilized - kind of like double battles themselves, really. Which makes them the perfect double battle Pokémon, in a sad, ironic sense.
Okay, I've never really cared much about Plusle and Minun as Pokemon, they were just always kinda... there. But those two in the anime are freaking adorable and I love the gloomy Minun and the happy Plusle. They're like that meme of the girl with the rainbow hair smiling next to her goth friend lol
I am a huge fan of the inclusion of Ouendan performers in this vid! I actually fell in love with the two Ouendan games and their American counterpart, Elite Beat Agents.
Okay but a psychic type duo that's just Plussle and Minun but with their symbols 45 degrees rotated and a bit recoloured, to represent mathematics is a fun idea.
I have had a Plusle at least two times in my Pokemon team. Once in the original Ruby and later on Alpha Sapphire. It may be weak, it may not have an evolution and the ability may be useless in single player but the Pika clones are just awesome.
I used to not like these critters specifically, but one of my closest friends in a Christian Furries IRC server I was part of had them as his fursona and alt account connected to the chat by phone. His friendly energy warmed me up to them, but I can't think of either without thinking of him. He passed away around eight years ago. It was mortifying, he was my closest friend and none closer to me now are _as_ close as he was.
Would the division one be smaller because it divided in height? Would it be smaller then their prevo? Arceus spams those eggs into existance so they dont need to be any particular size to have them as it's just arceus playing storck
Oh man I would love if they gave another spin with these two either with form change mega Evo etc and gave it a move or ability called "Amp it up" that gave your partner a priority boost with the helping hand boost if it was a move
Funny story. I was very indifferent to both these Pokemon until I decided to use Minun in one of my Omega Ruby playthroughs. It was actually pretty useful and held it's own. I even ended using it in the future for a Nuzloke and it's become one of my favorite Hoenn mons and my favorite blue and yellow Electric type introduced in gen 3 (was never really a Manetric guy). As for Plusle....it did not get the same love and now whenever both come up I'm just like "YO IT'S MINUN....oh yeah and Plusle's there too I guess". I never knew it was possible to ironically hate something.
A way to buff them I tought about is if they were able to be "the same Pokémon" in the same way we have Pokémon that are actually more than one being, like Dugtrio or Falinks. Maybe making them "evolve" by leveling them up together in a double battle past some level
I feel like Plusle and Minun should get a proper signature move. Sparking Cheer and Shocking Cheer Sparking Cheer, 50 Base Power, increases users Special Attack Shocking Cheer, 50 Base Power, increases users Special Defense If these two moves are used by allies, they secondary move is used immediately after the first, the based power of both moves are doubled, and the stat increase applies to the ally as well. Basically an incredibly OP move when used in tandem, but is given to a lackluster Pokemon and gets walled by Ground types.
I remember when I was younger that I would wonder why there isn't a multiplication and division version of them. Though that was before I knew how electricity worked! Now that I know how electricity works, it makes a lot more sense!
Um, actually - let me adjust my glasses real quick - The negative side has surplus electrons. The positive side has a deficit of electrons. In order to reach balance, negative gives to positive.
I blame the names for the math thing. plus-ul and mine-un are far closer to plus and minus than positive and negative. in fact I remember going to a comic book store when the games were new and the lady at the front called them plusle and minus lmao
Currently making Mac n cheese, and Snooze (my snugooi) says I can’t buy another 🤭🥰 Also plus Minun was really sweet I recall how my sister and I would pick one each. Ah good memories! - Happy Days~
Klink does specifically for a sidequest in BW where you need a klink from the other game. Its an easy signifier. At least iirc, klink gets one of the two depending on game. Buuut gen 5s my least favorite, least played gen, so i may be misremembering
Because they are electric Pokemon and can produce negative or positive electrical fields. I think game freak just wanted more Pokemon to have these abilities.
Plusle Minun, lunatone solrock, latias latios, illumise Volbeat are all Pokemon I made best buddies in Pokemon go, working on them at the same time so they can be equal. And I always name plusle Paula Abdul and Minun Mc skat kat because the song Opposites Attract says, I'm like a minus, she's like a plus.
I do think there had been a slight missed opportunity not to differentiate them more, bring the whole positive and negative elements that they are not just different coloured versions of each other. Which looks like the anime did something in those clips. Like what if entires said that plusle is a social pokemon but tend to start fights if there is no minun, and minun is the same but they get depressed if there is no plusle. And or maybe when together they reach a happy medium, or switch roles as plusle is giving energy to minun.
There is fundamentally 2 types of electricity Static electricity and current electricity Static builds up on insulators(because they restrict electron movement) and is always DC. It dissipates on its own Whilst Current persists and flows in conductors and can be both AC and DC. A current alternates due to how it's generated, spinning electromagnets at power plants They can also be changed from DC to AC and vice versa via transformers
This felt weirdly brief. Like, not *_bad_* at all, just... Different to usual. I prefer the deeper dives where I learn something completely abstract and seemingly unrelated to Pokémon at first glance. I guess Plusle and Minun just aren't that deep? Ah well, at least I learned a little bit about Japanese sports culture along the way.
So… maybe a pair of evolutions based on the Eastern style Cheer Squads could work. And to clear up the misconception that they are just based on mathematical symbols, they could be based on things that relate to energy. Like Resonance or Thermodynamics. Idk just spitballin here.
Personally it would be so easy to modify the abilitys to pasively give a offense or defense boost like the raid cheers in gen 8 and 9 then have a bigger boost for both ability holders. They would be usful in story, doubles, and raids where you have 4. Having 4 steely spirit perserkers was not broken vs 7* raids. In fact its not useful
... There were people that didn’t understand this was about positive and negative charges? There were people who actually thought these two were about math?!?
So, you actually have it backwards. Negative gives, positive takes. Negatively charged particles shed electrons, and positively charged particles claim electrons.
I love the detail that Plusle cheers when you're winning and Minun cheers when you're losing to encourage you ❤
1:30 fun fact: since electricity is the flow of electrons and electrons are negative, saying the reverse of this might be more accurate: positively charged particles take and negatively charged particles give

You can still make division and multiplication evolutions of Plusle and Minun! They'd just have to be based on Fission and Fusion!
The Plusle and Minun episode from Diamond and Pearl was intriguing; with Dawn getting over her childhood trauma
5:30 so that´s why Ippo´s cheering squad is just a bunch of rough highschool delinquents
I never knew it was possible to ironically hate something.
fun fact: there are several games about oendan, and those games later inspired/ were adapted into the elite beat agents series
Sparking Cheer and Shocking Cheer
Sparking Cheer, 50 Base Power, increases users Special Attack
Shocking Cheer, 50 Base Power, increases users Special Defense
If these two moves are used by allies, they secondary move is used immediately after the first, the based power of both moves are doubled, and the stat increase applies to the ally as well.
Basically an incredibly OP move when used in tandem, but is given to a lackluster Pokemon and gets walled by Ground types.
My favourite pika-clones. They're just way cuter than the others which is their main goal after all. Selling merchandise
0:21 double battles arent underutilized. Thats literally how most high-ranking competative is played
Underutilized *for NPC battles*
@RabbitSim fair enough. At least one of them was the 7th hoenn gym battle.
Not everyone plays competitive, it's optional
Looks like they will be doing it more in future based on the dlcs @@RabbitSim
Minun is my favorite pika clone
Is it just me, or does every video have unbalanced audio making it hard to listen. The music is way too loud compared to the voice audio.
I remember when I was younger that I would wonder why there isn't a multiplication and division version of them. Though that was before I knew how electricity worked! Now that I know how electricity works, it makes a lot more sense!
Underrated cuties
Um, actually - let me adjust my glasses real quick -
The negative side has surplus electrons.
Plusle and Minun are my fav pokémons from the first time i did see them, they are adorable! Sadly not really good in battles
To this day, I still don’t get why Ampharos, Toxtricity, Klink, Dedenne, and Manectric get Plus or Minus.
I'm so glad someone else loves this minun
Do Lucario or Joltik or Darkrai
There is fundamentally 2 types of electricity
Static electricity and current electricity
Static builds up on insulators(because they restrict electron movement) and is always DC. It dissipates on its own
Whilst Current persists and flows in conductors and can be both AC and DC.
A current alternates due to how it's generated, spinning electromagnets at power plants
They can also be changed from DC to AC and vice versa via transformers
I’m really feeling anime Minun. We should be friends.
So we have three separate Electric Type cheerleaders, only two of whom are related, and not by blood.
0:20 (paraphased) "Double Battles were always underutilized."
Every Orre Resident: "Suuure. Keep telling yourself that you Mainline W***e!"
When was the last Orre game again?
'Cause it sure wasn't recent enough.
@Luigicat11 Do the _yearly_ Championships fought in Double Battle format meet your requierements for relevance by recency?
@@catriamflockentanz
That's not a new game.
i hope the merch store discount lasts to next week so I can buy that plushie
Good job going back for video ideas, this drought between releases has gotta be even worse for you than it is us, keep it up, the videos are great 👍
Pikachu catching strays at the end cause of smash bros, deserved
So what I'm hearing is instead of going with Multiplication and Division for adding to them, you should go with a Neutral charge or a Ground?
This felt weirdly brief. Like, not *_bad_* at all, just... Different to usual. I prefer the deeper dives where I learn something completely abstract and seemingly unrelated to Pokémon at first glance. I guess Plusle and Minun just aren't that deep? Ah well, at least I learned a little bit about Japanese sports culture along the way.
Snugoi is like a pokemon industry plant
Generation this Generation that, but what does Lockstin think of Shadow Generations, that's the important question
It's unconfirmed on if they were ever considered for Smash Bros.
Plusle and minun in smash sounds broken and fun!
Solrock and Lunatone next please.
We need the long lost triplet, Newtril
So, you actually have it backwards. Negative gives, positive takes. Negatively charged particles shed electrons, and positively charged particles claim electrons.
I thought it was obvious they were based on electric charges, and maybe even electrons and protons
The pair in the anime remind me of Sara and Kara (the oracles) from American Dragon: Jake Long
Japanese male cheer squad uniforms look so _cool_ , like something I'd wear.
