- Most Windows beta builds tend to have an expiry date. But the real question is, what happens when a Windows beta actually expires? The answer varies through various Windows versions from 95 up to 11.

Microsoft in windows 10 and earlier: man we can’t let him use it
Microsoft in 11:eh let him use it and just send a message
Microsoft: No problem lets just place a message on the screen saying "Install A New Build Of Windows" and theres will be no update button so,lets wait for the Pc to shutdown or restart
@confident being fjattar it can use normally, but like Windows 7 RTM, you can't change theme and wallpaper and it have a watermark
Flight signed timebombs stopped midway through the insider development for creators update
windows all the way before 11: I'M GOING TO KILL MYSELF IF I'M USED PAST THE EXPIRATION
windows 11: hey bro I advise you update me bro but no rush
@@supercellex4D i was testing old windows builds and always got so confused about how some windows builds shoot themselves in the forehead if the time is a second past their expiration date while others just complain
WOW, I didn't know Windows could do that with betas 😱
@Noah Shaun Oh WOW
@Noah Shaun I read this 3 times to get what you were trying to say lmao
@@doge7831 Which Linux OS? Ubuntu? Debian? Arch? SuSE? Can you be more specific please? XD
@@NomoArabinho any? It doesn't have to be specific
@@doge7831 I like (and personally use) Linux as a whole but I think it's fair to say most people don't want/need/care to drop everything and install Linux ESPECIALLY considering that one bad update/driver/program could just as easily wipe your system and force you to reinstall, if your system is supported out of the box at all. Just look at Linus TT's ongoing series on it where on the first episode he accidentally bricked his system. 😅
Like at least with Windows you don't have to worry about compatibility or even more so your computer just dying for no particular reason; and even if something DOES happen it's super easy to get into a recovery environment and rollback the system even if it's gone unbootable (unlike most Linux systems where your best bet is to reinstall.)
Those Windows XP/Longhorn ones were BRUTAL with the BSOD
Not more than 9x patching itself to be unbootable

Also, minor missing detail for Windows 8 builds:
You are locked on the default Windows background as your desktop background, with the only exception being Solid Colour. Trying to replace the background file in this state won't work, and will, if you brute force it, just lock it onto solid colour.
Ah, so you are British? I see your spelling of color.
@@TtEL colour, color, cor same thing but they might be Canadian
Usually its rare for some. Installing Windows 7/8/8.1 betas on compile date and installing VMware Tools, will result to "Reinstall Windows" nag but no effect of wallpaper turn to black, etc. Its usually SPP related rather than timebomb related.
What happen when remove solid color
bo'wo'wo'wah
9x: Sorry, this demo expired! System will now break...
XP-some vista betas:Sorry, this build has expired!, Winlogon.exe will be terminated.... *BSOD*
Vista-8:The system will no longer allow you to customize.
10:Breaking bootlader....
11:Please consider upgrading.
The breaking bootloader mechanism wasnt applied anymore in Windows 10 beta builds starting mid-RS2 builds with the 1st one being Build 14965. Since then every Windows 10 builds after build 14965 and higher boots on current date, but the behaviors are different from Windows 8 betas.
Vista will still log you out tho
@@Victorek95translate?
@@Greenio_64 bro i was joking
Windows 10 beta bootloader only breaks if the build was expired for over 14 days, the first 7 days will have the same behavior as Windows 8 betas, and then the next 7 days before the bootloader breaks, Windows will block you from running any program, as opening it will causes an error.
Oh cool, thank God I check an update every day update from Beta to release version for W11, and then I have a release. Thank you for showing us about the Beta expiration. I didn't know about that
imagine you bought that one win8 beta build and you thought its a normal one then you just get bsod for 1h of usage, thats scary
Your intro chime would be great as a windows startup sound
Windows Whistler - Vista after expiring: So you have chosen death.
Windows 7 - 10 after expiring: You can keep using me but you're gonna have to log off every two hours, also you're stuck with a solid black background, also you can't customise.
Windows 10 after expiring: You're blocked from booting.
Windows 11 after expiring: You can keep using me, but if you could upgrade that'd be nice. No pressure though bro, just saying maybe you should update.
Everyone who hated on Windows 11 on launch, after hearing that the betas don't do anything stupid to your system after expiring: Perhaps I was too harsh on you.
I call the restart that makes Windows 8 8102 anti addiction to the computer. And it restarts when it feels like it. Every 1 hour, every 2 hours, etc.
This is why I got the message when I was in a technical preview build of windows 10
Maybe your evaluation period is expired so you need to buy a new one
In Windows Longhorn build 4015, for some reason Windows let you use the system even after the license expired
4015 does have a working expiry date (confirmed today).
So is there any problem to 11 if the build expire?
@@trandinhvietdung9357 no, u just get the promt each hour or so

So if beta or dev builds of Windows 11 gone expired, I can still use it. Great thing, Micro$oft.
i actually installed a windows 10 beta from the settings app, and i actually got stuck in that beta because i couldn't update due to some error with the windows update thing, and now i have a custom made windows that i made myself
Thank you so much.
This video helped me:
I have Windows 11 Insider installed now i know what to do.
Thank you.
I realy liked how u added not so popular versions of windows
Thanks for the content Martin, I am looking at doing a video of my own about this. The only question on my mind is, will Windows 10 allow you to use expired beta builds as this video says you can’t
The technical testing builds are useable for an infinite amount of time I had a dev build of windows 11 and there was no time limit

That Means You have to Reinstall Whatever Windows Version you have If you got this. If you backed up everything Don't panic. But if you don't back up anything. Use A Partition where you can install a New os and Get those Data on it
So, get Ubuntu or something on an usb and back your shit up.

wow now my desktop gave the famous BSOD I restarted and it gave a problem to start what do I do since it does not turn on?
Didn't even know that betas can expire! Thx again!
pre 1994 builds dosent expire, they only inplanted a timebomb in a 1994 Windows 95 build and then they began doing so with other betas. Some betas dont have a timebomb, and you can remove timebomb in early Windows 10 betas@shirleydotxml
some betas that have a timebomb dosent need to change the date like Neptune 5111 or Longhorn 4074@shirleydotxml

We are literally using Window 10 ON Windows 7! You can tell because if you go to the command prompt in Windows 10 recovery the interface it shows is literally Windows 7
Because there is no dwm on the winpe and winre. The DWM is only used on the normal install. As it is not necessary to have the fancy things when On the Recovery and Deployment environments. Because it's just used for Deploying and Recovering
Windows without DWM will Fallback to Windows basic which is Windows 7's theme
