The only way to win the game, is actually to quit it forever, and never come back. I mean, RUclips is like a hot stove, or a quick sand trap. You're not going to win that fight by tangling it up even more. No, to win against a quick sand trap or a hot stove burner... is to say, you know what, I'm done with you, bye!
This is a great message. I am starting this RUclips journey after being a long time consumer of content. I am doing it to learn and to also experience it and build skills. I caught this video at the right time, thank you for it!
When I started, I set my expectations very low, so it turns out I’m pleasantly surprised with the progress in my first month! Everything is relative and based on expectations and perspective! It’s really about the journey and you have to be in it for the ride and not just the end result you have built in your mind.
Right now my channel is under attack by another Content Creator who accused me of reporting her to Animal Control. On of her subscribers tried to take down my channel. RUclips needs to have real people available to talk to.
@AshleySpeaks4U yes! I filed numerous reports AND hounded them on X. Long story short, RUclips likes to talk about zero tolerance for doxxing and bullying, but the truth is they don't care. The content creator I'm talking about is incredibly nasty and toxic, as well as lying about "having to move" so she can continue to get donations. She's a liar because she even said on a stream that any actions against her by animal control have been suspended. I'm just hoping that eventually she'll move on to harassing someone else.

Thanks for sharing! It’s a tough one. But gaining over 300 subs in 30 days is awesome!! Celebrate every milestone because we tend to focus on the negative (I was guilty of this in the beginning.) RUclips isn’t constant so getting low views & new subs in the beginning isn’t the same over time, the more you grow, the more your subs and views go up 📈 Always try to improve and step into the success mindset from day 1… you got this…
This is great advice you are giving. Is not about the likes or views, but it is about enjoying what we do. Yes! Being focused more on the journey than the results. Let it sink in.. Thank you for this video. I needed it!
This is me right now John, two years of YT, 250+ videos, and after each one an angry and frustrating weekend of statistic watching - wondering what I’ve done wrong this time. A very loyal core of fans kept me going too long. I’ve been on a break from YT since June and life feels so much less stressful. I wonder how many creators end up in this emotional cul de sac, I’m sure some end up on anti depressants or even worse. I’m glad you found your reason to carry on, but the difficulties of separating YT frustration from real life should justify a government health warning.
I totally appreciate this video because I felt exactly like you did- the struggle is real!! It’s been a 1.5 months and I haven’t seen any growth but I can honestly say I am finally sleeping better and not feeling the pull to be on the computer day and night. I actually had to do a lot of praying; I easily and unhealthily got obsessed by it. I finally have connected again with the gym and friends…my life is back again 😅😂
Thanks for the reminder as to why I need to spend a lot less time here. RUclips also gives us reasons to hate this platform, such as removing my videos due to some truth-telling about covid and them threatening to take down my channel. I have a fairly new sober/recovery channel with a decent amount of subs. Most of my views come from new viewers. It is what it is. I like doing it and don't really care what happens. Learning is part of the fun and ultimately it keeps my own sobriety in check.
Fun fact… most of your views will come from browse (the home feed) and 95% will be from brand new viewers who have never seen your channel or videos, so make every video like it’s a new person
@@JohnWi11is I try to make engaging, funny and content. Because recovery is a very serious niche, it can be hard to bring a lot of humor around it. Thanks.
I can totally relate and agree with your advice. The problem is real, even when things do get really successful because you want to keep hitting that "good month," but you have to find peace with yourself and keep going either way.
Yup! You have to have a strong mindset to make RUclips work for you instead of working for it! We definitely fall into RUclips’s trap as small creators and consumers in general so we have to focus on our lane without letting it ruin our lives.
Another awesome video. Yes RUclips can be annoying especially when other channels have made less videos than you and yet have more subscribers which shows that RUclips's algorithm is unfair.
Great video sir. I do a podcast with my cousins and we have 5 years worth of episodes and clips here on RUclips and some people bluntly ask “why do you do it when no one’s really watching?” Cuz we enjoy it. That’s all it is, it’s no different than when we were a local band. It’s just something to do on the weekend.
I have been online since 1996. It's been a great experience. I use it for educational purposes. I only watch what I want, and post when I feel like it. Things are there for enjoyment. I don't let things affect me. I also don't spend hours online. I heard of how others get views, but don't care about that either. For me having a few enjoyable videos is an accomplishment. This is the meaning of success to me. Being able to create the things I have is my success. I'm successful, and creative.😊
Same here. I have a RUclips channel but it's not really about getting views and subscribers at the moment. I like walking, so I make videos every time I go out, but I'm testing the waters and feeling around.
every time I upload a video that I’m proud of it just feels good. It is such contrast to the feeling. I get from my 9 to 5 job. If you don’t feel great when you upload a video you either didn’t make the right video or maybe you’re making the wrong type of content that’s not aligned with your purpose in lifeonce you get that figured out I think and views don’t matter you’re doing what you were meant to do and that’s really what means everything
Really good advice and encouragement! RUclips is a huge learning game, but you put it into words as well as you could. You seem very down to earth, and I hope you keep it that way.
I hope to just keep making videos I enjoy making and be as relatable as possible. Obviously my videos will improve as I continue to try to get better and eventually hire a team but the overall message and style will remain the same
Although you may be right in many cases, there is a lot of people doing great video essays, research, and awareness campaigns on RUclips and they just want to reach a wider audience to really have an impact. RUclips is about ego most of the time? Absolutely, but not only that.
yes i think many of us do resonate totally with this. The journey can be very unpredictable and the mindset changes so much on a creator journey. Great tips! and insights to look out for. Its an incredible learning journey.💯💯
100% Out of curiosity what's your average monthly sub count a month and how many videos are you posting. I'm always eager to hear from people ahead in the journey
I have never tried to grow my channel per-se, because I know it probably won't get really popular. The genre I focus on, studio quality live recordings of local bands live shows, isn't a hot market. But I still do it because its simply a passion of mine 😊
I cannot tell you how much I needed to see this video today ❤ I think I'm coming out of the valley of despair and I think my biggest understanding atm is not to compare yourself with other people, and also not to doom scroll yourself into watching video after video of "how to be successful youtuber" type videos. Your video feels very different and exactly the last thing I needed to hear to be able to let it all go. I'm not going to focus on anyone or anything else except going back to just having fun with it and not worrying about the numbers 🥰
Great video really inspiring the grind is real. I feel like as a vr streamer the best advice is it takes time just dont let it take time from family in the end thats all that matters youtube is just a hobby that will probably go on for ever but we all lose the ones we love eventually
Sir, thank you sir so much, you have demistifies so much if RUclips for me, ir better yet, given actionable directions that at the same time explain how u can actually do this. Amazing explanation!!!
I'm so glad to hear that you found the video helpful! It's all about making things clearer and easier for everyone to navigate RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Good luck, John. Looking over your video catalogue I can see how much time and energy you've invested so far. You've really set the pendulum swinging. Wishing you all the best.
You are correct. I only desire to give my audience the best but in some occasions, I nearly gave up but I won't. I will keep getting better at it. It feels great knowing that my videos are impacting knowledge and entertaining viewers,
You hit the nail on the head. I'm at that point where I'm ready to give up because the only way my channel will succeed, is if content creators agree to want to collab. I had a vision of being successful by interviewing and going behind the scenes of thousands of different creators and their genres, but with little to no subscribers myself, nobody reaches out. It's as if I'm in a race and I'm stuck at the starting gate. I need to just relax, take my time, and trust the process. Thank you for the video!
Good Advice. Getting trapped in that mindset is something I think most of us creators face. We need to breath and calm down, and just do what we enjoy doing, and why most of us started a RUclips Channel.
I completely understand this because to happened to me as well, which leads me to take time off from my channel but I just recently slowly starting back again, with hopes of achieving the results I am looking for😊
Awww! I'm listening 😂 You're speaking to me🙋🏼♀️ I have you on and listening as I work on a logo for my website, so I can get a channel going that all dovetails into my book...so thanks for the honesty and great reminder!
Something I find weird is how the algorithm suddenly kills your videos. When I upload I have between 48 to 72 hours of constant increase in views (like 10 an hour) suddenly it flats and go to 0 and I don’t have any new view.
It is a strange one to figure out. I posted a video back in March that got 6k views in 4 days then flatlined and then out of no where 4 months later got another 10k views in a week.
Just have other things to do in life. RUclips won’t happen overnight success and importantly to acquire experience on other social media platforms specially twitter
Absolutely! Balancing life and social media is crucial. It's all about the journey, and gaining experience on different platforms can really help in the long run.
Thank you for this, I’m a new RUclips account I’ve been going a month and have only got 39 subscribers, seems like a very long road ahead but I’m hoping it will be ok, I’m enjoying it so far ❤
Hey John-really appreciate this vid! Needed a reset on perspective and a basic pep talk and you provided both-thanks! Here I am only 3 weeks into doing my channel and it's sort of comical how much I've expected to happen so far. Not to worry I've reined it in. I’ve given up, not with RUclips but with understanding why a great vid, with great thumbnail and title bombs, while a vid I’ve taken far less time on get thousands of views. I love the filming, editing process, I’m now focused on that, and let the vids just do their thing. Another great vid mate 👍

I hope to just keep making videos I enjoy making and be as relatable as possible. Obviously my videos will improve as I continue to try to get better and eventually hire a team but the overall message and style will remain the same
Your honesty is refreshing!!! Bigtime... I just started a channel like 43 days ago... i know - you're glued to looking at the analytics... LMFAO!
Welcome and thank you for the support
Such anguish over the “look at me” societal decline.
Although you may be right in many cases, there is a lot of people doing great video essays, research, and awareness campaigns on RUclips and they just want to reach a wider audience to really have an impact. RUclips is about ego most of the time? Absolutely, but not only that.

I guess we’re all just trying to be the main character in a world full of supporting roles!
Very true points! I know the feeling!
yes i think many of us do resonate totally with this. The journey can be very unpredictable and the mindset changes so much on a creator journey. Great tips! and insights to look out for. Its an incredible learning journey.💯💯
Totally! It’s like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded-lots of unexpected turns, but the thrill is what keeps us coming back for more!
Do it because you Love 💖 it
Thank you, John! I've really enjoyed your videos. They keep me encouraged and provide great insight! Love your energy!
Glad you like them!
Great video. Thanks for the tips! Definitely subscribed. Keep up the great work. 🔥
Thats great thank you
Great video! All so true
I really needed to hear this. Thank you 🤗
For sure man. When my channel started to get traction it was great but overwhelming. Had to take a step back and reevaluate
100% Out of curiosity what's your average monthly sub count a month and how many videos are you posting. I'm always eager to hear from people ahead in the journey
This is one of the best videos I've seen on this subject of doing a channel.... you nailed it.
Thank you 🙏
Great stuff John. I love your strategy of explaining.
Thanks for your vids John, it certainly has been an emotional rollercoaster, cheers to the future :)
Thanks for watching. I'm sure it'll still be an emotional roller coaster in 10 years time
I have never tried to grow my channel per-se, because I know it probably won't get really popular.
Excellent video. Thank you! I just started.
Thank you so much for this GREAT and HONEST video. It's really helpful. You deserve a lot. I'm sure yours will become a big channel🎉
Thank you so much!
Thank you. 🦋
This was a brilliant video! Thank you!
Hit this same realization recently man! Thanks for sharing this ❤
My pleasure!!
Great video really inspiring the grind is real. I feel like as a vr streamer the best advice is it takes time just dont let it take time from family in the end thats all that matters youtube is just a hobby that will probably go on for ever but we all lose the ones we love eventually
You would make a great life coach, thanks!
Lovely family. Thanks for the reminders.
thank you for watching
Good luck, John. Looking over your video catalogue I can see how much time and energy you've invested so far. You've really set the pendulum swinging. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you for those kind words
You are correct. I only desire to give my audience the best but in some occasions, I nearly gave up but I won't. I will keep getting better at it. It feels great knowing that my videos are impacting knowledge and entertaining viewers,
You got this! Just keep going
This video made me subscribe. I'm glad I found it. And RUclips analytics SUCK!!!
Haha thanks for watching and subbing
@@JohnWi11is you're welcome!
Great video and some really good points that every RUclipsr will go through. I went through the same and can relate
Glad you enjoyed
Yes, I think I‘m on informed optimism now. ❤
That’s a great place to be 😀
You hit the nail on the head.
Dude I love that. It’s a great idea but like you say hard to get going. Jump into my community bit.ly/4dMnEc3
lol, the RUclips “valley of despair”!
I’m familiar. 😅 Totally agree about multiple sources of income and managing time.
Thanks for this hem video! I can feel your passion 5hrough this video. It inspires me too❤❤❤
Thank you!
John thanks for your efforts to explain youtube phenomena to newbie creators. Your dedication deserves support, so I subscribed your channel. 💫
I’m a new content creator and I love it so far…videos like this will definitely be perfect for when this happens to anyone. Great video!
Good video. I was surprised to see your channel isn’t BIGGER… but I’m sure it’s on the way!
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate your support and belief in the channel's growth!
Good Advice. Getting trapped in that mindset is something I think most of us creators face. We need to breath and calm down, and just do what we enjoy doing, and why most of us started a RUclips Channel.
Absolutely! Keep going and never quit!!

I wish you a pleasant route to success. I love your studio and dedication. Good luck 🍀
I completely understand this because to happened to me as well, which leads me to take time off from my channel but I just recently slowly starting back again, with hopes of achieving the results I am looking for😊
Thank you for sharing your journey! It means a lot to know that others can relate. Wishing you all the success as you dive back into your channel!
Another great honest video John. So true what you say. So glad I’m not the only one going through the roller coaster. Cheers
So true and informative,
Glad it was helpful!
Video duly saved to rewatch. Thanks John, valuable guidance.
Awww! I'm listening 😂 You're speaking to me🙋🏼♀️ I have you on and listening as I work on a logo for my website, so I can get a channel going that all dovetails into my book...so thanks for the honesty and great reminder!
That’s awesome thank you… you can do it!!!
I found this really helpful. Cheers for that.
Glad to hear it! 🔥😀
Yep
Thank you for this, I’m a new RUclips account I’ve been going a month and have only got 39 subscribers, seems like a very long road ahead but I’m hoping it will be ok, I’m enjoying it so far ❤
It might be or it might be faster than you think... either way... strap yourself in and enjoy the ride
This is easily one of the most underrated channels on RUclips. Always great videos! 👌🏻
Yep totally agree 👍 always good information
thank you so much.
So underrated 😱 let's Subscribe guys 😐
Hey John-really appreciate this vid! Needed a reset on perspective and a basic pep talk and you provided both-thanks! Here I am only 3 weeks into doing my channel and it's sort of comical how much I've expected to happen so far. Not to worry I've reined it in. Yeah, that rollercoaster ride is real and man, the ups and downs even in a single day sometimes are crazy!
I'm glad to hear the video helped! Starting a channel can definitely be a wild ride. Just remember, every creator goes through those ups and downs, and consistency is key!

I’ve given up, not with RUclips but with understanding why a great vid, with great thumbnail and title bombs, while a vid I’ve taken far less time on get thousands of views. I love the filming, editing process, I’m now focused on that, and let the vids just do their thing.
Another great vid mate 👍
That’s the roller coaster of RUclips and all part of the fun. No one really understands it
Thank you!! Just subscribed. I can relate about obsession!!
oh, the struggle, I feel you!
Almost will be year soon and I'm excited to continue my journey as a RUclipsr and content creator
Working to get a Break through on my RUclips channel keep going and stay focused consistency is the Key !!!
You got this! Keep at it & the rewards will come…. One day 😏

Potrzebowałem dokładnie to usłyszeć. Że nic nie muszę! Tylko robie to bo chce. Bez presji. Dziękuję!
