I am happy to see you drawing animals rather than people, especially celebrities which so many people seem to do. The tip about "indenting tool or embossing tool" was very helpful. You are an amazing artist, especially for someone overcoming your level of speech impediment.
@@carlyrenee.art Just joking! I was just being totally sarcastic and a wise ass. I'm American. Everything else I said was sincere. I have a long way to go and experiment with abstract art using pens more than pencils. However, I hope to draw Rhinos and other animals with much more practice in the next year. Rather than Photorealism I prefer and celebrate the imperfections of an artists work and the long road taken instead of shortcuts. 2/15/2022 USA Grandpa Bill: Carly, the thing I notice is the delicacy of your vision. Your mind is able to see what most of us yet can't. Your development as an artist is profound compared to most of us. Fifty years ago as a traditionally trained architectural draftsman using 6h, 4h, 2h, pencils on vellum, I loved seeing the plans develop from faint to dark as if they rose from nothing to visibility on the paper. That's the closest I can get to see what you do. The wisps you create to form wonderful images are as elegant as the blossoming of our finest flowers. This is your innate talent, and each of us has some gift. I admire your doing, but I have to be satisfied with my gift which is a bit more coarse, heavy-handed, blunt. Thank you so much for your graciousness in sharing your talent and accomplishment. It's a real treat.
I've been drawing for years and some of the topics you touch on are exactly what I've come across, but never found a way to fix it, like the shine for graphite. Just simple things that make so much sense and I love it. Your video is informative, creative, and inspiring and I am so happy that I found it. I want to step up to that next level and you really break it down nicely. Very cool, ty. I am loving your other videos as well. So happy I found your page.

Excellent information shared by Carly in relation to tools and materials for painting. As an engineer specialized in designing and building industrial plants, I draw quite well, but now I want to paint to see how my works or works of art turn out.
Thank you so much for sharing the tools you use. I was once at the top of my profession in carpet laying and I always bought the best tools that I could find. It makes your work so much easier and produces a much better end result. Anything else is just a frustrating struggle! Looking forward to your course!

Hi Carly. I work in graphite and to make graphite powder I first put a block into a bag and use a hammer to brake it into smaller chunks, it can then be put in a pepper grinder and be ground up or ground directly onto the paper. I have also used an old NutriBullet to do this as well, both ways are quick and don't make a mess. Hope this is helpful. 😊
Great video, easy to understand and simple practical examples. I noticed you have an in-depth process for preparing paper…. I’d love to see a video on what you do or use to prep prior to even starting to sketch something out.

Little tip for you.the first eraser / Rubber you liked the most . If you cut it with a knife to resemble a pencil ✏️ you can keep sharpening it and shaping it for different needs a bit like that flexibility of the blue eraser.

very helpfull advice. generals charcoal is wonderfull stuff, if you can find some of their jumbo willow sticks. i highly advice you try it. deepest value ive found yet in the natural charcoal dept. plus its great to layin almost the full range of value while still being able to adjust as per natural charcoal. not crumbly brital stuff. i have sticks sharpened to points and used sticks right down to nothing with no probs. for blending, my go to is Pipe Lagging Insulation Foam - 15mm x 25mm x 2m most hardware suppliers sell it. dont get thinner than this as its way to flimsey. this stuff is quite unique plus it doesnt degrade the tool or the paper even after really scrubbing the paper.
