10:13 “I’m learning to be much kinder to myself and I’m becoming kinder to other people. I’m not comparing myself to others.” Exactly! Love it. I’m not an artist but I happened to see this RUclips as I was searching around this morning for something interesting to watch. You have a beautiful attitude and your artwork is spectacular.

What’s on the wall tells me what’s in your mind and heart…both beautiful. To express it in that way is rare and always one of a kind. No one can do what you do and how you do it. It is a gift-celebrate that.

I've known a lot of quietly courageous people in my life (I'm 66). From soldiers and sailors to physicians who have literally held someone's life in their hands. I sometimes wonder whether artists are in some ways the bravest of them all. Every original artwork is a first time experience; by definition no one has ever done that before. So every time you step up to a clean canvas (or a blank page or an empty screen in your word processor,) you are starting over. In a very real sense you don't know what you are doing but you have a faith that you'll figure it out as you go. It takes a lot of courage (and some madness,) to do that over and over again, knowing all that and also knowing that your final intent is to show it to the world. There's a lot which is admirable in that and for what little it means from me, I admire your willingness to step once more into the breach. Congratulations on a fine portrait!
It's time to start getting ready for next year's competition. Have you thought about a subject yet?

wonderful said... you kind of helped me break my creative block with these words. IT IS OKAY NOT TO KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS A FIRST TRY =)

    • @AidenBlake82
      @AidenBlake82 2 месяца назад +3

@@jadedjhypsi those individual whom get drunk or drugged and they get out of their minds and they do unbelievable things deal with problems that you can observe and say "they don't know what they are doing"
an "artist" knows what they are doing and that's exactly the reason of those unexpected things that happen at the end!
It is not always a first try; you are walking through a path as an artist and you "must" learn from the "path"
      good luck!

Hi Carly, For having a short painting career - your skill is fantastic! The one thing, I’d recommend for your figural compositions to become more life-like and hold a real visual weight, is work with a live model vs. referencing the image from your IPad or what have you. Doing this will give your figures; substance and a feeling of being grounded vs floating away and angelic-like. Keep going and looking forward to see your next creations! You got this!!❤ PS. Don’t be shy, on painting feet as they are just as important as the face! 😊 Yes, I’m an old master painter.

Congratulations! You did an amazing job on this portrait. Kudos to you for sticking with it and working through your failures and turning them into successes. Learning to Persevere is a skill we all need to work on if we want to be successful at whatever we hope to achieve. Winners generally fail more often than they succeed. But it is the people who persevere, that ultimately turn their many failures into their greatest achievements.

I'm certain Angus has already told you: No artist embarks on a brand new work without feelings of trepidation. I've done many pieces (I'm 71) and each time I reach places where I just have to push past the fear and persevere. One instructor told me that from the first mark you make, the rest is a controlled accident. You did it brilliantly!

I must say Renee that you are doing some fantastically wonderful work. It’s so good to listen to you sharing your journey. I am going to recommend a friend of mine, Frank Ordaz, who is a well-known painter that lives in Auburn California. He has a technique with certain paints that might be useful to you if you have time to look him up on RUclips or even Facebook. You will find the work that he does which is mostly American western, both scenery and personalities quite amazingly life like.
Some of his work, which I admire greatly, is of the American Indian in several different tribe venues. Keep up the good work, it is definitely worth the effort and will pay off with people who love your work and your own satisfaction of what you have achieved.❤

Just here to show my appreciaton. What I saw from your process... it impressed and inspired me. What struck me the most... the inextricable togetherness of subject matter and muse. In your case it is very clear, but what, to me at least, is also clear that your commitment to those... man... you've grown! The powerful and at the same time delicate manner you render your subject... the love, the dedication... the desire, yearning maybe... to penetrate the essence of your subject... All that. I've never saw such beautiful paintings as yours. I really do respect your commitment to your art.

Absolutely stunning. The emotions I felt when you discussed transitioning from the comfort of a pencil to the vibrancy of paint were indescribable. I've been self-teaching myself to paint for years now, primarily focusing on watercolors as a pencil and pen artist. Working with color has been incredibly challenging, and hearing you talk about the frustrations of color theory, how it shifts on the canvas/paper, and reacts to surrounding colors, almost brought tears to my eyes. Your progress is truly remarkable, and it's reassuring to know that struggles lead to growth. I've made a conscious effort to keep even my less polished work, using it as a visual diary to track my development. Your journey is inspiring, and your artistic endeavors are truly invaluable.

Being an accomplished draftsman with either charcoal or graphite is an essential tool to becoming a painter. I like that the next step you took was to paint a monochromatic study. This is very much InLine with the old masters technique. they first did a drawing, and then a Monic O-Matic study and paint, and then filled in with color. This then was called a cartoon. this enabled the artist to work on composition, shading, and establishing your color palette. Good job. My hat is off to your mentor.

I think you gained so much more than the prize as it pushed you out of your comfort zone and gave you the opportunity to create something that you might not have done without this specific goal. Good Girl, Never stop pushing through, Colour is your ultimate goal which makes you better than you are now.
I used to be an artist many many years ago painting or drawing the female nude which most were destroyed by norrow minded people especially women such as teachers.
In thos day's some well renowned artists would say your a great artist but you need to get out of your comfort zone to become better, Colour is best but very hard because of the millions od tones of light and dark which make the foundation of our interpretations in our work.
Good Luck Sweetheart your brilliant, I love your art and nudes even if youtube does not.

Fantastic documentation of the journey. I'm still too scared to try oils but I get the feeling it would be so much better when trying to blend colours etc. I have seen people put a neutral colour on their palettes to help with determining "true" colour value... not sure if that would be useful? The monochrome was lovely... but I do have to agree the colour just brought so much more warmth and life into it. Well done!
